The VAZ 2107 car comes from the factory with a luggage compartment designed for transporting personal or passenger cargo. Since the trunk is an integral part of the body, its design allows it to withstand the impact of luggage and absorb loads in the event of an impact to the rear of the car. Access to the luggage compartment is provided by opening the lid, which is attached to special hinges and secured with a lock.
Standard trunk dimensions
The trunk of the VAZ 2107 is far from ideal, that is, the free space in it is not distributed in the best way, which is also typical for other classic Zhiguli models. Due to the peculiar design of the body and its component elements (fuel tank, side members, wheel arches, etc.), a certain space is formed, called the luggage compartment, which is not so easy to measure. For a better understanding of the dimensions of the luggage compartment, a picture is provided that shows all the necessary dimensions taking into account the geometry of the rear part of the body.
Trunk seal
The luggage compartment lid on the “seven” is sealed with a special rubber element, which is mounted on the flange of the upper part of the trunk. Over time, the seal becomes unusable: it tears, bursts, as a result of which dust begins to penetrate not only inside the compartment, but also into the interior. This state of affairs indicates the need to replace the rubber product, and one of the main issues is the choice of a quality element. Today, the best seals for the trunk lid are from BRT (Balakovorezinotekhnika) . It is possible to install an elastic band from a VAZ 2110, but you will have to adjust the lock, since the seal is somewhat larger and the lid will be difficult to close.
Directly replacing the seal does not raise any questions. Having dismantled the product that has become unusable, the new part is evenly distributed along the entire perimeter of the side. To prevent water from getting into the trunk in case of rain, it is better to make the connection at the back rather than at the front. In places of bends, the elastic should be slightly compressed, but at the same time avoid the formation of folds. After uniform distribution, the seal is finally filled with a mallet.

To improve the interior space of the VAZ 2107 trunk, you can use different materials, especially since initially the finishing was made only in the form of plastic elements. The most common materials for cladding include Carpet. In addition to the luggage compartment itself, the trunk lid can be trimmed, because initially its inner surface is not covered with anything. For the “Seven”, ready-made kits for the rear door are not sold, so owners have to do everything themselves. The same Carpet can be used as a material. It is only necessary to cut the material to the shape of the inner surface of the cover and secure the casing using special plastic pistons or self-tapping screws in pre-drilled holes.

A wide variety of cargo can be transported in the trunk of a VAZ 2107 (fuel cans, milk, bricks, farm animals, etc.), so the likelihood of floor contamination is quite high. An accessory that serves to protect the luggage compartment from the ingress and impact of various contaminants is a mat. The product must meet such requirements as increased strength, ease of maintenance, and resistance to chemicals, which depends on the materials being transported. Mats for the trunk of the “seven” are made, usually from plastic or polyurethane.
Plastic accessories are distinguished by their low cost and resistance to chemical influences. The disadvantage of the material is that it often slips while the car is moving. In addition, there is no guarantee of complete protection of the trunk from dirt. The most popular mats are polyurethane. They are inexpensive, have sides that prevent liquids from leaking onto the floor covering, and are also puncture resistant. The disadvantage of such products is that they are difficult to care for, since it is not so easy to remove the rug from the compartment without spilling or scattering debris. One of the disadvantages of inexpensive floor accessories is the unpleasant odor, which is especially noticeable in hot weather.

Trunk lock malfunctions
Malfunctions of the trunk lock on Zhiguli cars of the seventh model are usually associated with malfunctions of the cylinder. In this case, the lock will need to be removed from the trunk lid and disassembled to replace the part. As for the adjustment, it is carried out when the luggage compartment lid does not close well or knocks while driving.

- new lock or cylinder;
- Litol lubricant.
How to remove
To remove the luggage compartment lock, perform the following procedure:
- Mark the position of the lock on the lid with a pencil.
- Using a 10mm wrench, unscrew the 2 nuts securing the lock.
Replacing the larva
If the need for dismantling is due to replacing the cylinder, then before installing a new part, the mechanism is cleaned and lubricated with Litol. If the lock is completely replaced, the new parts of the product are also lubricated.
How to put
After lubricating the lock, it is installed in the following sequence:
- Insert the sealing element into the luggage compartment lid.
- Place the lock cylinder in the spacer sleeve.
- Mount the cylinder together with the bushing into the lock.
- Install the lock on the trunk lid in accordance with the previously made marks.
- Fasten and tighten the mechanism with two nuts.

How to adjust the trunk lock
If the trunk lid lock on the “seven” closes with difficulty, it needs to be adjusted relative to the locking element. To do this, loosen the fasteners and change the position of the mechanism so that the latch easily fits into the body and the lever secures it well, and there is an equal gap between the luggage compartment lid and the body over the entire area.
Adjusting the trunk lid
Sometimes it becomes necessary to adjust the trunk lid. It happens that the part is located above the rear wings or is shifted to the right or left. If the trunk lid can be moved to the sides by unscrewing the fastening nuts on the hinges, then with an incorrect height position the situation is somewhat different.
To adjust the lid in height, you will need to open it completely and, holding the edge of the lid with one hand, apply force in the hinge area with the other. A similar procedure should be repeated on the other side.
The main thing is not to overdo it. Then close the lid and check the tightness of its fit. If necessary, repeat the procedure. To adjust the force of opening the trunk lid, the edges of the torsion bars of the springs are shifted to one of the teeth of the luggage compartment hinges.
Installation of the activator
Initially, it is necessary to install an activator, which is an electric drive that works to retract or repel, depending on the connection. The first step is to remove the lock and install the activator rod. To remove the lock, you will need to unscrew two nuts.
After this, you need to drill a hole in the side of the lock to insert the rod and connect it to the lock tongue. The rod will need to be bent (secured), it should look something like the one shown in the photo below.
After fixing the rod to the lock, the latter can be installed in place. It is advisable to remember the tilt level of the lock and install it as well, so that you do not have to adjust it during installation. Now you can attach the activator to the trunk. To do this, you will need 2 self-tapping screws and a special plate, which comes with the product. After this, you can manually try to see if the lock will work when opening. When the activator is installed on your VAZ 2107, you can proceed to the next stage: connection.
Roof rack VAZ 2107
If the “seven” is often used to transport various cargoes, then, as a rule, the standard trunk is not enough. In this case, it is convenient to use a special roof rack. Oversized cargo can be secured on this structure. Before choosing a product, you need to find out the dimensions of the elements that can be placed on the trunk. Long materials such as boards, sticks, pipes, if their length is up to 4.5 meters, may not be marked with red flags. If the cargo exceeds the dimensions of the vehicle, i.e. protrudes beyond the front and rear bumpers, it must be marked with special red flags that inform other road users about the transportation of oversized cargo.
