The maintenance regulations state that the first oil change in the engine should be done after 3 thousand kilometers, and then at each maintenance (after 15 thousand kilometers) or once a year, whichever comes first.

You will need : warm up the engine to operating temperature, prepare new engine oil and filter, a “17” wrench, an oil filter remover (or a large screwdriver), clean rags and an empty container (4 l).

How to drain engine oil

For convenience, it is recommended to drive the car onto a pit/overpass, then:

Unscrew the oil filler cap on the engine.
Clean the oil pan from dirt, install an empty container and unscrew the drain plug from the bottom of the car using a 17mm wrench. Be careful not to burn yourself!

After all the oil has run out (about 10 minutes), clean the plug from dirt and screw it back in.

What kind of oil to pour into a VAZ 2112 16 valves

To replace VAZ-2112 oil, the manufacturer has established lubricant quality standards corresponding to the API quality level: SG, SH, SJ. It should also be noted that for the correct selection of oil, climatic conditions should also be taken into account. Below are the values of the maximum and minimum annual temperatures, taking into account which you need to select oil for your car.

from -15 to +45 °С SAE 15W-40;
from -20 to +30 °C SAE 10W-30;
from -20 to +35 °С SAE 10W-40;
from -25 to +20 °C SAE 5W-30;
from -25 to +35 °C SAE 5W-40.

On engines 21124 and 21120, the use of API SF oil is not allowed, as it has a destructive effect on the rubber parts in the engine.

How to replace the oil filter

The oil filter is located behind the engine.

We place an empty container under it and unscrew the oil filter counterclockwise using a puller. Another way to unscrew the oil filter is to pierce its housing with a screwdriver (closer to the bottom of the filter, so as not to damage the engine fitting), unscrew the filter, using the screwdriver as a lever.

Fill the new filter halfway with new engine oil and lubricate the sealing ring with it. Then install the oil filter, tightening it by hand until the O-ring comes into contact with the cylinder block. After this, tighten the oil filter another 3/4 turn.

As noted above, after each replacement of lubricant in the engine, installation of a new oil filter is required. There are a lot of such products on the modern automotive market, so choosing a truly worthwhile product is quite difficult.

First of all, you should pay attention to the brand and cost of the product. Dimensions are no less important. In addition to original filters, there may also be analogues on sale. They are cheaper and of lower quality than original products.

When replacing the fluid, be sure to install a new sealing ring for the drain plug to avoid oil leakage during vehicle operation.

How to add motor oil to the engine

We pour new oil into the engine through the oil filler neck; approximately 3.2 liters of oil will be required (about 0.3 liters of oil will still remain in the engine). We control the level using the oil dipstick (the oil level should be between the MIN and MAX marks).

Screw on the cap and start the engine for 1-2 minutes. We check that there are no leaks from under the plug and oil filter, and wait until the oil pressure indicator on the instrument cluster goes out.

Control check: stop the engine and check the oil level with a dipstick, if necessary, add oil to the specified level.

After how many kilometers should the oil be changed?

Manufacturers recommend changing the oil on the VAZ 2114 every 10 - 15 thousand kilometers . This figure is based on average vehicle operation. The maximum distance between oil changes should be maintained only if the vehicle is operated primarily on smooth roads in a gentle mode.

For frequent trips out of town or in city traffic jams, the replacement period should be reduced to a minimum or even less - up to 8000 km . This is due to the fact that the operation of the engine, unlike the chassis, is measured not by the distance traveled, but by time and operating mode.

Take, for example, a trip of 200 km on a highway, where the engine will run for 2-3 hours, or 100 km in the city during rush hour. Also, decomposition products and suspended particles, which settle in the crankcase and do not enter the oil filter, are not removed. If the car's annual mileage is less than 10,000 km, then a seasonal change of lubricants is recommended. In this case, it will be more practical to use oils with different degrees of viscosity - more viscous for the summer, less viscous for the winter.

Stages of replacing lubricant VAZ 2106

On classic Lada cars or the more familiar Zhiguli, a convenient drainage of used oil from the engine is provided. The oil filter is also easily accessible and can be reached from the engine compartment.

During the production of the VAZ 2106, a large number of modifications were produced, which were equipped with various engines. Experienced drivers note good maintainability, unpretentiousness in maintenance, as well as consumables.

There are no global differences in versions with different engine sizes when replacing, all actions will be almost the same.

Draining waste fluid

Now you need to unscrew the old oil filter, which is located on the right side of the engine under the hood (Fig. 4).

To unscrew the filter element, it is advisable to have a special puller. If it is not available, you can try to unscrew the filter using improvised means. In this case, you can use, for example, an old alternator belt, a regular belt, a bicycle chain or a simple screwdriver.

Using this method, you can drain the maximum amount of used oil, after which you can proceed to further actions. The main thing is not to forget, everything that we unscrewed must be put back in place.

Flushing the lubrication system

Flushing the engine on a VAZ 2106 should be carried out only in exceptional cases, which include:

Purchasing a used car when you cannot know about the quality, as well as the regularity of lubricant replacements.
During operation, the service replacement interval was repeatedly exceeded.
Engine operation with constant frequent overheating, which contributes to coking and other deposits.
In cases of switching to another type, for example from synthetics to semi-synthetics.

There are several types of flushes for the VAZ 2106 engine:

Five- or seven-minute, capable of cleaning even the most difficult deposits. They must be used very carefully and strictly follow the instructions printed on the packaging. It is recommended to use them only when absolutely necessary. Since there is a high probability of causing premature wear of the sealing seals. And also clog the oil channels with particles of washed away carbon deposits.
Special compounds that are added to the oil several hundred kilometers before the expected change. They are more gentle, but there is also a possibility of clogging of the oil channels.
Flushing oil is the most gentle method of cleaning the engine from the inside. This composition is poured after draining the waste, the engine runs for 15-20 minutes, after which the liquid with deposits is drained. The absence of aggressive additives in the wash composition gently cleans the engine, but is not able to remove heavy contaminants.
Regular oil that you are going to use when changing. This method is not so popular due to its high price.

Before flushing a VAZ 2106, you should weigh all the pros and cons. And also understand that it will not be possible to completely drain the liquid. Some of it will remain in the channels, which will then mix with the new oil.

Installing a filter, filling in new engine fluid

If the VAZ 2106 lubrication system is sealed and does not require repair work to eliminate leaks, you can proceed to filling in fresh engine oil. In addition to the oil itself, we may need a new drain plug, its part number 14325301. As well as the original oil filter 2101-1012005.

Consumables

When everything is ready, let's move on to the bay:

Replace the drain plug and replace it with a new one if necessary.
We tighten and put the oil filter in place. Pre-lubricate the rubber sealing ring with fresh oil.
Pour new oil into the filler neck.
We check the level on the dipstick; it should be between the MIN and MAX marks.
We start the engine, let it run for 10-15 seconds, then turn it off.
After 5 minutes, check the level with a dipstick and top up if necessary.

There are several opinions regarding replacing the oil filter. Some car owners advise filling it with new oil before installation. However, in the official operating instructions for the VAZ 2106, as well as in information from well-known filter manufacturers, it is recommended to simply lubricate the o-ring.

Choice

Before dealing with the question of how to change the engine oil, it should be noted that the choice of lubricant does not depend on which engine is used in Zhiguli cars: an injector or a carburetor.

The most preferred oil for the VAZ 2107 is synthetic oil. At the same time, the machine’s engine also operates normally on semi-synthetic and mineral lubricants.

The synthetic base is made from a mixture of several chemicals, due to which a high fluidity rate is achieved at low temperatures. It tolerates strong heat well and is distinguished by the durability of its composition. This means that synthetic oil for VAZ needs to be changed less frequently than other materials.

The main advantage of “semi-synthetics” is that it combines the main characteristics of “synthetics” and the low cost of “mineral water”. This type of base is recommended to be poured in summer or during warm winters. At low temperatures, it is necessary to give preference to synthetic material.

The frequency of changing engine oil on a VAZ 2107 depends on the type of base. Most often you have to fill in “mineral water”, then “semi-synthetic” and “synthetic”. In addition, the frequency indicator is influenced by the type of fuel used in the car. For example, on cars equipped with gas cylinder equipment, the oil becomes contaminated more slowly. On such vehicles, it is allowed to change the oil base every 15 thousand kilometers.
