What size wheels are on the VAZ 2114 - wheel size and parameters

The AvtoVAZ company took an important step for itself when it decided to restyling the legendary “Nine”. This is exactly how the VAZ 2114 appeared, which was produced in almost a million copies over the entire period of its production.

The uniqueness of the car is that it is literally created for tuning. Of course, the manufacturer didn’t do this on purpose, but it turned out more than successfully.

But if you don’t want or can’t spend a lot of money on tuning and modifications, there is a simple and budget option - install new wheels on the VAZ 2114.

What kind of drilling is on the VAZ-2114

One of the main parameters that you should pay attention to when replacing standard disks on a VAZ-2114 car is the dimensions, location and diameters of the mounting holes, PCD, pitch circle diameter, or, in simple terms, drilling or bolt pattern.

Bolt pattern on a VAZ-2114 wheel

Bolt pattern - this characteristic is expressed in two numbers and indicates the distance between the centers of the mounting holes and their number.

Drilling for all VAZ cars (except Oka and Niva) - 4x98 , four holes, the centers of which are located at a distance of 98 mm from each other .

However, this is a simplified designation for the user. The disc manufacturer is required to take into account both the diameter of the holes, their number, the distance between their centers, and the diameter along which the centers of the holes are located . Such a designation would complicate the selection of disks by the user, so knowing drilling in the “number of holes/distance between them” format is considered sufficient.

A few more wheel parameters

The drill bit can be measured using the spare wheel. In all SAMARA drilling 4*98

There are several more parameters that relate to the original VAZ-2114 rims - the width of the stock rim is 5.0J , the offset of the ET45 , the diameter of the centering hole at the hub is 58.5 .

Decoding indicators on disk

It will be easier to select car wheels when the decoding of the provided indexes is known, and therefore special care is required to consider the details in this matter. It is imperative to remember that each designation is placed for a reason and has its own information load.

For example, 175/70 R13 is considered a standard option, so it needs to be considered in particular detail. This means that the diameter of the tire is 13 inches, the profile height in percentage is 70, and the width in millimeters is 175. This allows you to figure out in detail whether the tire is suitable for fitting a car. Based on this, a disk is selected that fits perfectly into the geometric proportions.

VAZ 2107

There are several types of tires for the seven. The industry produces them in seasonal versions:

  • Summer,
  • Winter,
  • All-season.

In order to save money, drivers prefer to install all-season wheels on their cars; their standard size is 175/70R13 82T, where:

175 — profile width;

70 is the ratio of the height to the width of the profile.

R - radial type tire.

13 — landing diameter.

82 - load capacity coefficient.

T is the highest speed developed by a car on such wheels.

Varieties

Selecting new wheels for a VAZ 2114 is not an easy task. When choosing them, it is important to take into account a number of parameters, plus combine them with personal preferences.

As for the dimensions, the emphasis should be on the diameter of the hub (58.5 millimeters) and its width (5-6.5 inches). For fastening, standard M12 bolts are used, the thread pitch of which is 1.25 millimeters.

As with most other cars, the VAZ 2114 is offered on the market:

  • Steel (stamped);
  • Light alloy (divided into forged and cast).

Stamped

Steel wheels are very common. Not surprising, because all “fourteenth” models are equipped as standard with exactly these types of “rollers”. However, they are popular not only because of this. These wheels are cheap, but at the same time reliable and durable.

When impacted, they do not shatter into pieces, unlike some other disc materials. They just get deformed. Such deformations are sometimes removed manually, although the best option is to use special equipment.

But they also have disadvantages, including:

  • Large mass, which negatively affects control, fuel consumption and tire wear;
  • Weight also affects the chassis and transmission;
  • Steel ones extremely rarely have an attractive appearance, which is one of the main reasons for replacing them with analogues.

Cast

Many car owners prefer to use alloy wheels on the VAZ 2114. This is due to a number of advantages that they carry.

  1. They have less weight compared to stamped analogues.
  2. Helps extend the service life of vehicle components and components.
  3. Have a positive effect on reducing fuel consumption.
  4. Cools the brake system more effectively.
  5. They have a wide range of different designs that can become a real decoration for the entire car. It is enough to put the casting on the car and it will instantly transform. A simple but effective way of external tuning.

As for the disadvantages, they also exist:

  • Alloy wheels do not bend under strong impacts, as happens with stamped rollers. The situation is worse - a split is occurring. This leads to increased danger during accidents and high-speed movements;
  • The side surfaces begin to oxidize over time. This requires increased attention and periodic maintenance;
  • The cost of alloy wheels is noticeably higher than the price of steel counterparts.

Forged

Forged wheels, which are gaining popularity, are also perfect for the domestic modernized “nine” represented by the VAZ 2114.

Strengths include:

  1. High level of strength that matches stamped discs and even exceeds them in some places;
  2. Lightweight design, which is not inferior to alloy wheels;
  3. External attractiveness of forged products;
  4. High levels of rigidity and reliability. With strong impacts they bend a little, even less than steel ones;
  5. The surface is not very susceptible to corrosion, so you don’t have to care for them as carefully as cast ones.

The only drawback of forged kits is their high price. If your budget allows, and such a purchase is really justified, put your VAZ 2114 on forged wheels.

VAZ 2106

The most favorite car in Russia. It was produced with standard parameters - 155R13. It is allowed to install R15, but no more.

I must say that riding on large wheels will not be very comfortable. The enlarged rims will begin to touch the wheel arch, the car will bounce on potholes, and its handling will deteriorate significantly. Therefore, professionals advise against conducting such experiments. The “Six” should only wear tires recommended by the manufacturer. It is advisable to install light alloy wheels, they are much lighter than standard “stamping”.

How to install a 4x100 disk on a VAZ-2114

Most older foreign cars have a 4x100 drill. This makes it possible to diversify the choice of disks almost indefinitely. However, we must take into account that simply installing, without modifications, 4x100 wheels on a 4x98 seat will not lead to anything good. The fact is that the tolerance in the manufacture of the disk does not exceed 0.7-1 mm . That is, it is theoretically possible to put on a disk with a 4x100 fit, but this will lead to the fact that only one bolt out of four will fit exactly on the cone. The remaining fasteners simply will not tighten all the way and, as a result, the disk will sit with a distortion that is almost impossible to check by eye.

Disc with bolt pattern 4*100

The disc will not fit with its mating plane to the hub, and this will lead to the fact that it will have a runout.

Systematic runout can not only lead to the fact that the only bolt that is tightened correctly will quickly become loose, but also to instant wear of the wheel bearing, and the remaining bolts will loosen on their own. There is a way out of this situation.

Disc runout leads to rapid wear of the wheel bearing

To install a disc with a 4*100 bolt pattern, you need to either install a spacer or install studs with nuts instead of bolts.

A less reliable option is to install bolts with an offset head. A not entirely correct option is to install studs, for example, from the cylinder head and nuts from Niva, but the studs are not designed for torsional force, so the most reliable option would be to install spacers. You can carve them yourself or buy them ready-made.

We recommend: How to replace the radiator of a VAZ 2107 stove

But here you need to take into account several nuances:

  1. The width of the spacer must be at least 20 mm, since only in this case we will ensure proper thread strength.
  2. In this case, the offset of the disk will increase by the same 20 mm, which must be taken into account when selecting a disk.
  3. In this case, the disc must be selected with a minimum offset in order to remove the load from the hub and somehow compensate for the difference in offset.

Installing studs with eccentric nut

Advantages and disadvantages of low profile tires

With low-profile tires installed, the vehicle's maneuverability and controllability are significantly improved - this is especially noticeable when cornering. The steering wheel becomes “sharper” and the car practically does not deviate from the trajectory due to the fact that the low sides of low-profile tires crumple less under lateral loads on the tire.

But when driving on a bad road, such wheels transfer much more shock loads to the body than standard-sized tires, and absorb various road defects less well.

It is worth noting that a tire with a low profile is quite easy to “punch” to the disk even on a small pothole and at low speeds, and the edge of the alloy wheel can become wrinkled and completely fail when using such tires.

Also, it would not be amiss to mention that according to traffic rules it is prohibited to operate vehicles with tires whose characteristics do not correspond to the vehicle model. However, experience shows that traffic police officers usually have a calm attitude towards tuned VAZs with alloy wheels “14”.

And this is not surprising, because R14 wheels are standard equipment on cars of the VAZ 2110 family, the chassis of which is similar to the VAZ 2108, 2109, 21093 and 21099 models. But with R15 alloy wheels, the likelihood of running into trouble when passing a technical inspection is much higher.

Factory standard options

On the VAZ conveyor, stampings with a diameter of 13 inches (1 inch is 2.5 centimeters) are installed on the VAZ 2114 model. Tires installed, as a rule, are not expensive, with a high profile.

For tuning enthusiasts, there is a lot to work on with such a basic option, because there is room to change the diameters of the rims and the height of the tire profile. One of the options for tuning a VAZ 2114 is to install wheels with the most suitable wheel diameter and minimum tire profile height.

On the VAZ 2114 you can install wheels with a diameter of 15″,

but you will have to install low-profile tires and you can install 14″ (14 inch) wheels and a tire width from 5″ to 6″. This is clearly written in the LADA VAZ 2114 passport.

What tires can be installed on 14″ wheels?

For such wheels, only two tire markings are suitable:

  1. 185/60 R14. This size is preferable.
  2. 175/65 R14.

Replacing standard wheels provided by the manufacturer with 15-inch ones may prevent you from passing technical inspection. Because the car's passport states that it is not recommended to install wide wheels on this car. This is what a four looks like with 15 wheels.

Calculation, index, code, marking

Few people understand codes and markings. So, for example, the designation with the Latin letter R means radial, and the number that is stamped after R means the diameter of the disk.

You can calculate the parameters of wheels and tires with your own hands, or rather with your own head.

Let's start deciphering the tire markings. For example, let's take the factory tire designation for the VAZ 2114 - 175/70 R13:

  • 175 is the width in millimeters;
  • 70 - height of the rubber profile in relation to the width in percent;
  • R13 is the tire type - radial, and 13 is the diameter in inches.

Anyone who wants to learn how to drift with front-wheel drive in the summer, do not forget to prepare the car: wide tires forward, narrow tires back.

Calculation of rubber profile height

To calculate the height of the rubber profile, you need to multiply 175 mm by 0.7 (this is 70% divided by 100). The profile height is 122.5 mm.

You can decipher a car’s VIN code yourself, or you can use online services.

Calculation of diameter (conversion from inches to cm or mm)

To find out how many centimeters in diameter the disk is, you need to multiply 13″ by 2.54 cm = 33 cm = 330 mm.

Calculation of the total wheel diameter (disc + tires)

122.5 + 330 = 452.5 mm. This is the factory size for the “four”.

The recommended wheel sizes for the VAZ 2114 are R13 and R14.

The car's passport indicates what size wheels can be installed on this model. These are: R13, R14.

If you install 15-inch wheels on this car and tires that are not low profile, then on bumps during shock absorption the rubber treads will touch the wheel arch liners or the wings themselves.

If you still decide to install R15 wheels, then you need to choose the following tires:

  • 185/55 R15;
  • 190/50 R15 (this option needs to be checked to see if the width is suitable or not).

Classification of disks by manufacturing method:

  1. Stamped. The simplest and most common method of making wheel rims.

    The steel sheet is pressed into a given shape. Hence the name “stamping”. The cheapest way to produce parts of various shapes. They can also be improved by painting. For example like this:

    Or like this:

      Advantages of stamped discs: Soft, tend to deform plastically. They do not burst upon strong impact.
  2. Repairable. Since they do not crack, they can be straightened to their original shape.
  3. Cast. Manufactured by casting.

      Advantages of alloy wheels: light weight;
  • slightly, but reduce fuel consumption;
  • tires last longer;
  • variety of shapes, which makes them popular among fans of tuned cars.
  • Flaws:
      high price;
  • fragility - such discs burst under sudden strong impacts.
  • Forged. Manufactured by forging.

    And this is a Lada Priora with forged white wheels.

    They have all the advantages of stamped and cast wheels. They have one mine - a very high price. Forged wheels are manufactured by VSMPO.

  • Classification of disks by manufacturing method

    Wheels for VAZ 2114 cars can be manufactured using different technologies, so before purchasing it is important to consider all the options available:

    • Stamped. This is the most common option, which combines various technical and practical features. Low cost combined with high quality are the main advantages that made the products popular in the automotive market for the VAZ 2114.

    Among the advantages of stamped discs, we can highlight such qualities that have become the basis for the development of wide consumer interest: due to their softness, such discs are smoothly deformed, so the driver will not encounter unexpected cracking of the disc while driving; Considering that the discs do not burst, but bend, they can be easily restored.

    • Cast. You can even more often find cars on die-cast ones, since they are the personification of durability, reliability, quality and attractiveness. But you will have to spend a lot of money on such a model, since, taking into account the peculiarities of the technological process, the cost increases significantly.

    The high cost makes such wheels not affordable for every buyer, but you can count on the following positive aspects: low weight, which makes the car easier to drive;

    We recommend: Changing the engine oil

    fuel consumption is slightly reduced; there is a large assortment of shapes to choose the most attractive option; The integrity of the tire is preserved, as it is protected from negative external influences.

    • Forged. Such discs are created by mechanical forging, so they have a solid structure. As a rule, these are white models with characteristic stylistic features.

    Photos and technical characteristics of each option are an opportunity to choose the most attractive and high-quality type for equipping your vehicle.

    Forged

    For several years in a row, forged wheels have been in constant demand. Their dimensions are perfect for a modified VAZ 2114.

    Advantages

    Several advantages can be highlighted:

    • Very high strength. They are superior to stampings in all respects.
    • Light weight, approximately equal to the weight of light alloy models.
    • External attractiveness.
    • They are characterized by high rigidity. They are considered very reliable, with a sensitive blow they only bend a little. Moreover, steel products are deformed much more strongly.

    Forged wheels never rust. They do not require careful maintenance like their cast counterparts.

    Flaws

    There is only one negative property of forged models - their very high cost.

    Installation of non-factory wheels on a VAZ

    If you want to install a wheel rim of a different design on a VAZ car, you should pay special attention to the offset value. The conventional marking of this value indicates the distance from the plane of contact of the wheels to the conditional center of the rim. This indicator is measured in millimeters.

    The most suitable one can be called the ET36 departure. Of course, the PCD, or more precisely the diameter of the circle on which the wheel rim mounting holes are located, must be in accordance with factory requirements.

    On VAZ-2114 cars, this value is 98 millimeters. In technical documentation, this parameter is noted as PCD = 4 × 98 millimeters, this is the bolt pattern.

    The optimal ratio of the width of wheel rims, the bolt pattern of which is 4×98 mm:

    • 175/65R14 – wheel width 5.5J;
    • 185/60R14 – 6J;
    • 185/55R15 – 6J;
    • 195/60R1 – 6.5J.

    You can change the wheels on a VAZ car yourself. For many Russian car owners this is not a problem. But if there is no practice, there is no need to rely on resourcefulness and ingenuity. The brake and disc systems of any car do not tolerate amateurs, since human safety is at stake.

    From time to time, it is better to carry out diagnostics using certified equipment, and you can change the brake pads yourself. Moreover, such work is not carried out often.

    Wheel rims can last approximately 40 thousand kilometers. However, if the owner takes good care of his own car, then this period can be extended to 100 thousand kilometers. The size of rims for VAZ cars, as well as their type, is at the request of the owner. The most important thing is that the choice of wheel rims should not contradict the characteristics specified by the manufacturer. So, when visiting an auto parts store and buying new rims, all of the above must be taken into account.

    What is the tire pressure

    The manufacturer provides a tire pressure of 1.9 bar for the basic wheel configuration (R13), and 2 bar for 14-inch wheels. In practice, for a given car model, 2 bars are always inflated. Below is a table from the car's passport.

    **Rim offset (ET) is the distance from the mating plane of the disc to the middle of the rim.

    On each tire, in addition to the markings, the permissible pressure limits are indicated. However, over-inflating the tire will reduce its shock-absorbing capabilities and reduce ride comfort. Low pressure will accelerate tire wear.

    How to choose summer tires

    To correctly select seasonal tires, a motorist must know the answers to questions.

    1. Speed index of tires. Each ramp is made taking into account speed loads. The motorist should find out what maximum speed he will drive at, which will significantly narrow the search sector.
    2. Weight load. Each car has a unique weight. Therefore, you need to buy slopes for it. If the safety margin is not enough, the tire may burst or fly off the rim, which will lead to negative consequences.
    3. Intended terrain for use of the vehicle - asphalt semi-slick tires should not be expected to have normal grip on wet ground. Such tires will slip on primers and wear out quickly. Likewise, “toothy” tires will not work well on asphalt - the tread will quickly wear off, while at the same time producing strong noise and vibration.
    4. Price. You shouldn't expect high performance from cheap tires. Budget models are suitable for infrequent trips at moderate speeds, which is justified by their ease of implementation.
    5. Manufacturer. Due to the high responsibility of the part, automakers do not recommend buying tires from dubious brands. You should also first verify the authenticity of the products - counterfeits of famous corporations available on the market may not completely meet the requirements.
    6. Composition rigidity. Soft slopes will hold the road perfectly, but will wear out quickly. Hard versions, on the contrary, take a long time to ride, but have little grip on the road surface.

    Taking into account all the parameters, you can proceed directly to choosing tires.

    Basic drive functions

    Wheel rims on a passenger car perform a number of important tasks:

    · rubber seal around the perimeter;

    · ensuring a rigid structure under the total weight of the vehicle;

    · transmission of torque to the wheel.

    Based on these functions, the car enthusiast can formulate requirements for the disks, as well as their technical characteristics. Any wheeled product must be balanced in size, durable and safe. Only after this can you proceed to drilling wheels on VAZ cars.

    Stamped wheels 14th radius

    Classic stamped wheels for VAZ

    Any stamped wheel disk consists of two parts - the disk itself, which is made of sheet steel from a special reinforcing profile, and also the rim. These two parts are connected using spot welding. Next, the metal surface is rubbed, polished, paint and a protective coating (enamel and varnish) are applied.

    Looking ahead, let's say that one of the main advantages of stamped rims is the ability to repair them. In particular, rolling. This procedure is performed at a service station using special equipment. In addition, the owner of a car with stamped wheels must remember that they require regular care and monitoring of their condition. In particular, it is necessary to constantly monitor the absence of chips on their surface, the absence of rust and other mechanical damage. If they are found, carry out repair work as soon as possible!

    Manufacturers of steel rims

    There are several trusted manufacturers of stamped wheel rims for VAZ cars. Among them:

    • EuroDisk. Discs under this brand are produced by EurasiaTAPO-Disk CJSC (Fergana, Uzbekistan). This is an Uzbek-English enterprise, based on the former Tashkent Aviation Production Association named after. V. P. Chkalova (TAPO). The production volume of the enterprise is about 1 million wheels per year.
    • KFZ. Discs of this brand are produced at enterprises that are part of the ALCAR production group. The high quality of the discs is confirmed by the fact that they are supplied to the world's largest automakers. In particular, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Jeep, Citroen, Daewoo, Dacia, Daihatsu, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Iveco, Jaguar, Kia, Lancia, Landrover, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Mercedes- Benz, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, Saab, Seat, Skoda, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo.
    • Mefro. The company's production facilities are located in Germany and South Korea. Discs released under this brand are of high quality. This is confirmed by statistics - the company produces more than 22 million discs per year. Their advantages are the absence of radial runout, the ability to withstand a side impact while maintaining pressure in a tubeless tire, and the presence of a protective layer of zinc and aluminum powder on the surface. The only indirect disadvantage is the fact that there are currently a large number of fakes on the market.
    • VAZ. They also produce wheels for their cars directly at the plant itself. They belong to the middle and lower price category with mediocre quality of the products themselves.
    • KrKZ (“Kremenchug Wheel Plant”, Ukraine, Kremenchug). It produces cold-formed steel wheels and wheels for cars and agricultural machinery. The products are of high quality and low price.

    When choosing a particular manufacturer, you need to proceed from the ratio of quality and price. Naturally, European manufacturers sell their products at a slightly higher price, but their quality is also better. With domestic discs it's the other way around. But when buying imported goods, there is always a risk of purchasing a fake. This is especially true for discs in the high price category. Therefore, buy products only from trusted and certified stores.

    Advantages and disadvantages of stamping

    The manufacturing technology described above implies that 14-radius wheels on a VAZ have the following advantages:

    • low price (about 20% cheaper than cast ones);
    • ease of manufacture;
    • possibility of repair;
    • in the event of a significant impact, the disc is not destroyed, but only deformed, which significantly increases the safety of the car when driving at high speed;
    • the stamped wheel absorbs most of the impact, thus protecting the suspension and steering system;
    • use of standard mounting bolts (alloy wheels often use individual elements).

    However, stamped wheels are not without their drawbacks. These include:

    The appearance of the discs is hidden behind the caps

    • unsightly appearance (stamped discs are often covered with various decorative caps);
    • greater mass than alloy wheels, which affects the dynamic characteristics of the car and also places additional load on the car’s suspension;
    • discs are susceptible to corrosion, which reduces their strength and service life;
    • difficult balancing due to the fact that they “walk” along the axis;
    • stamped wheels hold the road worse at speeds of 80-90 km/h and above, which is caused by their greater mass and, accordingly, inertia.

    However, the balance of advantages and disadvantages of stamped discs is still shifted in a positive direction. They are very common in the domestic and foreign automotive industry. Especially among commercial and budget vehicles. We will move on to comparing stamped and cast wheels at the end of the next section, after we look at cast wheels.
