So, the VAZ 2114 was purchased new from an official dealer in December 2006. The color is “quartz”, the equipment is “luxury”: heated front seats, velor interior, rear headrests, trip computer. Price -227,000 rub.
Like most domestic drivers, I dreamed of a foreign car, especially since I had to drive them a lot. But, having critically assessed my financial capabilities and the secondary market for foreign cars, I came to the conclusion that let it be ours, but a new one. Why exactly the fourteenth? It used to be a nine, I’m probably used to it. Dozens are not liked either externally or internally. I don’t really like sedans, so I abandoned the 2115. Well, the classics are too archaic.
Now the odometer is frozen at 3100 km, of which 1000 km are on highways. Here are the first conclusions
1. Appearance and body.
A nine is a nine. They installed new lighting equipment in front, and painted bumpers - that’s the whole difference. But overall, not bad for a Russian car. It’s true that the paint on these bumpers flies off from the smallest stones. The headlights from the factory were shining anywhere but on the road. And the hydraulic corrector did not work. At the first maintenance, the headlights were adjusted and the corrector miraculously restored its functions. Rear left stop - as usual, the light bulb burned out. Replaced. By the way, after three months of not the most intensive use on city streets, the exhaust system has already begun to corrode. What they are made of is not at all clear. And the roads are sprayed with all sorts of nasty things.
Modernization is good, but why leave the job unfinished. Was it really impossible to split the rear seat and lower the lower edge of the trunk lid to the bumper? The new panel looks better than the old, tall one. There is less creaking, but the problem has not been completely eliminated. The painfully familiar creaking of the luggage compartment shelf reached my ears 500 km later. Finally, there is an adjustable steering wheel, although I don’t even want to take the last one - it’s slippery, thin, and poor-looking. And the glove compartment - guys, you can’t even put gloves in there. If space is reserved for an airbag, where is it?
3. Engine and transmission
So far, running-in. I don’t tear it too much, although I drove it to the limit a couple of times. Overall not bad, but for some reason I can’t get into reverse gear the first time in the morning. It starts in any frost and warms up relatively quickly. The clutch picks up at the very top, is it really impossible to adjust it humanly?
4. Chassis.
From the very beginning the car was noticeably pulled to the right. At the first maintenance I asked to fix it. Either our entire people are like this or everything connected with AVTOVAZ, by definition, cannot be normal. They made it so that it would be better not to touch it. Now, upon reaching 90 km/h. the steering wheel beats in your hands like a wounded animal - you can’t hold it. We'll have to go again and figure it out.
In general, the car handles well - adequate reactions, slight rolls, informative (for a domestic car) brakes. Sometimes the suspension breaks even at low speed. Maybe it's worth replacing the struts?
That's all for now. There were no serious failures; the complaints were mainly not about the car, but about those who made and serviced it.

Attention! To avoid damage, perform all tension-related actions carefully and do not use excessive force. If you overdo it with tension, you can damage the system and the functionality of the heating system.
Preparation of equipment and materials
The technology for applying any paint to car rims involves spraying from a can or with a spray gun; brushes are not applicable here. To operate a spray gun, you need a compressor or an oxygen cylinder, and a small number of country house owners have such equipment.
A set of tools and materials for restoring rims
Hence the conclusion: it is best to buy coloring compounds and primer in aerosol cans, fortunately, there is a wide selection of enamels on sale in such containers. In addition, to complete the work you will need the following tools and materials:
- an electric drill or an angle grinder with a steel wire attachment (the so-called brush);
- coarse and fine sandpaper, 400 and 200 grits are suitable;
- rust converter or its analogue - phosphoric acid;
- degreasing agent - white spirit, nefras (otherwise - Galosha gasoline), organic solvent;
- masking tape, contour tape;
- paint is calculated as 1 450 ml bottle for 2 discs, more liquid rubber may be needed;
- primer (1 bottle for 4 discs);
- rags, rubber gloves, respirator or gauze bandage.

Note. Acetone and inorganic solvents for nitro paints are not suitable for degreasing, since they are not capable of decomposing fats.
Important point. The primer must be selected so that it matches the base on which the paint is made. For example, acrylic-based compositions require acrylic primer, and so on. The application technology itself differs little from the type of enamel; the operations are performed the same.
