Tire size is one of the most important parameters that can significantly change the behavior of a car on the road. In our review we will tell you about the permissible tire size on the Grant, as well as what the size of the tires affects during the operation of the car. Let's start with the tire and wheel sizes allowed by the manufacturer.
What are rims for?
The parts are intended not only to give the car an original look. They determine the type of tires you can install on your car, and tires affect the dynamics.
Discs made of lightweight materials reduce the load on the suspension. Light wheels reduce fuel consumption, but heavy wheels can soften the impact of a bump.
Design should not be relegated to last place. The right design decision, aimed at the style of the car, can make it more noticeable on the road.
What other tires and wheels are suitable for the Grant?
A survey was conducted among VKontakte users, asking them to choose alloy wheels for Granta. 42% of participants recommend installing R15 wheels on the Grant. 27% chose R14. Third place (17% of voters) believe that 16 wheels on Grant will look best. The left tire compatibility table is built for 175/70 R13, and the right one is for 185/55 R15:
Green indicates the minimum deviation of the wheel diameter (up to 3 mm); Orange indicates a diameter deviation from 3 to 6 mm.
Types of rims
The choice of wheel rims is associated with a dilemma - buy factory products from an official dealer or find an alternative for little money. The next question is choosing a type. Basic:
- stamped;
- cast;
- forged.
All of these types differ in price, perceived load and weight.
Cast
Alloy wheels are made by hot casting into a mold with mechanical processing. Such wheels most often come as standard equipment for mid- and high-priced cars.
Alloy wheels for Lada Granta
They are made from an alloy of aluminum and nickel, which gives them an advantage over stamped rims in weight. In case of mechanical damage, you can restore the paintwork without effort.
Casting from magnesium and titanium alloys is used. This option is suitable if the car will be driven on normally asphalt roads. Severe unevenness will lead to cracking of the disc.
When casting aluminum, the rim walls are made quite thick, which gives the wheel strength. If you choose a low-quality casting, there is a possibility of internal cavities forming, which will soon lead to cracking of the rim.
Stamped
From the name it is clear that wheels are made by stamping from a sheet of steel. Then the disk elements are welded, and the finished product is obtained.
Stamped wheels for Lada Granta
The main advantage of these wheels is the price. Stamps have always been and will be the most cost-effective. They are very durable and resistant to low temperatures.
Everyone knows about the condition of the roads in Russia; wheels can often become deformed. The easiest way to return stamping to its original shape is by straightening the steel.
But not everything is so good. The dies remain the heaviest discs available. They have a boring design, but it can be hidden under hubcaps (wheel covers).
This is the best option for winter, simply because you don’t feel sorry for them. And given the chemicals used on the roads, expensive wheels will be exposed to chemical attack, which is why you risk damaging them.
Forged
The most expensive option on the market is forged. This is due to the quality and high strength. Strength is achieved through a special technology, which looks like pressing and subsequent hardening. Therefore, the likelihood of the formation of internal shells is reduced to zero.
Forged wheels for Lada Granta
Another advantage is weight. It is much smaller than cast and especially stamped wheels.
Such discs are not afraid of strong impacts on bad roads. There are rare cases when a part is deformed due to mechanical stress.
Due to the high strength, the spokes can be made thin, which makes the wheel light and interesting in design. The next advantage is high resistance to rust. Therefore, forged wheels can last longer than the car itself.
Weight matters
A car disk is a simple flywheel mounted on a hub. To set it in motion, you need to expend a certain amount of energy, the source of which is fuel. And the greater the mass of the wheel, the more fuel will be required to spin it. But it is much more difficult to stop the wheel when its rotation speed is very high. At that moment, a very large load is placed on the braking system. Therefore, not only the comfort and controllability of the car, but also the safety of passengers in the cabin depends on the quality of the disc and the materials used to make it.
Modern wheels are made of steel and various light alloys, which give them a number of advantages:
- Welded steel disc. This is a familiar stamped version that boasts a low price and durability. It is these discs that have the heaviest weight, are easily deformed and are more susceptible to corrosion than others. But with all their shortcomings, they are not so bad - if after falling into a hole the disk is dented, this can be quickly corrected at a service station.
- Alloy wheels (cast and forged). They have much lighter weight, high anti-corrosion and strength properties and many design solutions. But they are already much more expensive. When subjected to strong impacts, alloy wheels do not bend like steel wheels, but rather crack. Forged ones can withstand the strongest blows and are practically impossible to bend.
What is affected by the size and color of discs?
When tuning, they try to increase the size of the wheels so that the car looks original. But increasing the wheel diameter affects the handling parameters.
Increasing the wheel size will increase the vehicle's ground clearance. There is an increase in maximum speed. As the size increases, the mass of the disk also increases. This increases inertia, which causes the suspension to suffer as it bears a greater load.
Car manufacturers choose the optimal wheel size. As wheel size increases, the load on the suspension increases, for which the car is not ready.
Therefore, for safe driving, choose the rim size recommended by the manufacturer. Initially, the car comes with a choice of wheels of at least 2 different sizes.
The choice of wheel color depends only on the imagination of the car owner. But it's worth knowing a few tricks:
- The most practical details are gray and beige. Dirt and scratches are less noticeable on them, which cannot be said about black.
- Bright colors make the car noticeable in traffic, but they are susceptible to fading in the sun. Scratches on such discs are not as noticeable as on black ones.
On white, scratches and dirt are also less noticeable. And on top of all the advantages, white is the cheapest color.
Most popular manufacturers
A large number of manufacturers sometimes confuse car owners when choosing car wheels.
Stamped discs
KFZ is constantly working towards the development of new technologies for creating dies. The wheels of this brand are famous for their quality and wide range of products presented on the automotive market. A wide range of standard sizes allows you to choose a wheel for any car.
Kronprinz – German quality. This company was founded more than 110 years ago and is still in demand among car enthusiasts. The rims are made of high-strength steel using our own paint coating technology. This is what puts them in the mid-high price range.
Mefro is the creation of German engineers, but manufacturing plants are located all over the world. Wheels of high reliability at minimal cost.
Alloy wheels
Alutec is the most recognizable company in the alloy wheel segment. Special production technologies and product quality control have led to the appearance of wheel rims that satisfy the majority of car enthusiasts. It has a stunning design, serious durability, and an unbeatable price.
SKAD is the fruit of the efforts of Russian engineers. The discs are produced by low pressure casting. You will find parts by design and suitable price.
KIK is another Russian manufacturer. Quality comes first with high availability of wheels, this is how this manufacturer can be characterized. CFC production is expanding and new solutions are being applied. German equipment is used for production. A large variety of design options makes it possible to stand out.
Forged wheels
Slik is a company that positioned itself as a manufacturer of wheels for motorsports. The Russian manufacturer uses high quality raw materials, which is why the rims turn out to be appropriate. The downside is the lack of paintwork.
OZ Racing is another favorite of Granta owners. Italians produce forged wheels of high quality and unique design, so the brand is respected by car enthusiasts. The company has existed since 1971. OZ Racing gained great popularity due to the wheels used in F1 racing and on WRC cars.
Enkei – this company has its origins in Japan. She was the first to produce car wheels in the country. For special rulers, casting technology with rolling out the rim is used. These are discs for which you can pay not so much money compared to competitors.
How much do different types of disks cost?
Let's start with the simplest thing - stamping. Today their price ranges from 1 to 7 thousand rubles per piece. The price is influenced by the manufacturer’s brand and the quality of the raw materials used.
Types of wheels on the Lada Granta
If the design of stamped wheels is not to your liking, then take a closer look at a more serious option - casting on the Lada Granta. Here the entry threshold rises to 2 thousand rubles, and the final price can reach up to 23 thousand rubles for 1 disc.
The most expensive option is to buy forged wheels. For models from a recognizable company you can pay up to 50 thousand rubles. If you wish, you can choose an alternative based on money. Here the threshold depends only on finances.

Which discs are preferable under different conditions?
The size, weight, and type of rim affect the behavior of the car on the road. The rim determines what tires you put on your car.
For a relaxing ride
If the car is operated in calm conditions, does not drive off-road and does not rush off the bat, then you should choose those wheels that are recommended by the car manufacturer. They are balanced for the load experienced by the suspension.
For racing
If you are an experienced driver and your goal is sport, aggressive and high-speed driving on flat roads, then take a closer look at forged ones. They are lightweight with sufficient strength. But when hitting a bump at high speed, there is a risk of disc destruction. Therefore, buy such wheels if you know exactly the quality of the roads you are going to drive on.
Off-road
Steel stamps work well here. Pros for off-road use: minimal price (you won’t mind them in off-road conditions); in case of minor damage, they can be repaired (a bent disc can be rolled).
To improve your image
If you want to stand out from the crowd, then buy forged designer wheels. But this is if you need both design and quality. If you care more about design, you can go with cast ones. They look no worse than forged ones, but are several times cheaper.
Alloy wheels R15 for Lada Granta
The optimal wheel size for the Lada Granta is 15 inches, which gives car owners the right to choose any wheel characteristics within this parameter. So, before purchasing wheels for their “iron horse,” owners should know the following features:
- Wheels purchased for a used car must be replaced as a set or in pairs, because otherwise the car will skid and become less controllable on the road. Replacing all 4 products is not a problem if the owner wants to improve the appearance of the car. It is not advisable to purchase only one wheel to replace a deformed one if the old one has been in use for more than a year.
- When choosing the required width of the product, the driver needs to be guided by the place where the car is used, since when driving on good asphalt at high speeds, excessive grip on the road can reduce the speed of the car, and a width of 185 mm will be quite enough, that is, you should not take wheels wider than 5, 5J-6.0J.
- If the driver uses his Granta in winter, he can install wider wheels, increasing the grip to 195 or 205 mm, which will correspond to a rim size of 6.0J-6.5J.
- R15 is the optimal size, and it can be used for installing all-season tires, which will significantly save the owner’s money on tire fitting during seasonal “change of shoes.”

Note!
The choice of “casting”, “forging” or “stamping” depends mainly on the budget of the car enthusiast, however, the stamped version of the wheels also looks good if they are fitted with decorative caps made of plastic or rubber.
Which discs to choose for “Grants”
With the advent of new disk manufacturers, the question of choosing them can lead the owner of Grants into a dead end. But don't forget to choose the right size.
Size
The wheel size must be selected based on the body type and year of manufacture of the Lada Granta model. These sizes are in the range from 13 to 16 radius.
For sedans, station wagons and liftbacks in the “Standard” configuration, the recommended wheel size is P13, P14.
"Lada Granta" sedan
The same car, but in the “Norma” configuration – R14.
"Lux" requires wheels size 15.
On the sports version of the Lada Granta, casting and forged rims are used with a 15th radius, but P16 steel wheels are increasingly appearing.
Pay attention to the location of the mounting bolts and their number. The mount is different for each car. Keep an eye on this so you don't have to change wheels after purchase.
Type
And now the most interesting thing is what type of wheels to choose: made of light alloy materials or steel, or is it better to use original ones?
Here, proceed from the amount you can afford. Putting good forged rims for 50 thousand rubles on a Lada Granta is not the best idea. After all, such a kit will cost 200 thousand rubles (4 wheels), and this is ½ of the car itself.
There is no time to rack your brains over the choice of wheels - take standard AvtoVAZ factory alloy wheels. They have already been designed for safe movement in city conditions and light off-road conditions, and are inexpensive. A very simple option, if you don’t want to take original ones, is stamping. Put hubcaps on them and they look like they've been cast. The issue price will be from 500 to 1500 rubles per set.
Standard disk sizes
When talking about wheel sizes, it is not enough to just mention their diameter. The remaining parameters are important for understanding whether they are comparable to the hub of a Lada Granta car, as well as what type of tire they are intended for.
For example, rim width is the size of the tire seat. The mounting hole pattern gives an idea of whether additional spacer adapters will have to be used. As noted above, this car uses a 4x98 wheel installation scheme with a center of 58.6 mm.
Disc offset is a fairly important indicator, especially when using wide wheels. It reflects in mm the distance from the hub mounting pad to the plane that visually divides the rim into two rings of equal width. Disc diameters are measured in inches.
As standard, the Lada Granta is equipped with sizes R13, R14, R15. It is rare to find a model with 16 discs.
The table shows the recommended tire sizes and the corresponding wheels.
Tires | Discs |
175/70R13 | 5Jx13ET35 |
175/65R14 | 5Jx14ET35, 6Jx14ET35 |
185/60R14 | 5Jx14ET35, 6Jx14ET35 |
185/55R15 | 5Jx15ET35, 6Jx15ET35 |
195/50R16 | 6.5Jx16ET29 |
The numbers indicated through a fraction in the tire size mean: tire width / profile height as a percentage of the width. The Latin letter “R” indicates the type of tire - radial. The last numbers correspond to the diameter of the disk.
