Tomahawk system capabilities

The latest version is capable of searching for the owner's lost car within range and has an indication of impacts on the car.

Let's start by looking at the characteristics and functions that the Tomahawk 9010 security system has.

Let’s look at the functionality that characterizes the Tomahawk “alarm” with autostart:

  • presence of feedback between the key fob and the car;

Modes

In accordance with the Tomahawk TZ-9010 operating instructions, the system can operate in several modes:

  1. Anxiety. When the protective mode is turned on, if the security zone of the sensitivity sensor is activated, the turning lights of the car will blink six times, and the siren speaker will emit three beeps. The remote control will play one melodic signal. When the main zone of the sensitivity sensor is triggered, which usually happens when there is a strong impact on the body, the siren will sound, which will automatically turn off after 25 seconds. The key fob will sound an alarm. If other zones turn on, the siren is activated for 30 seconds. An icon in the shape of a car will light up on the screen of the main key fob, indicating the zone that was triggered.
  2. Panic, which allows you to activate the siren to scare away potential criminals. The mode is activated by pressing buttons on the pager in the form of a closed and open lock, as well as an open tailgate. The function can be activated when the engine is turned off. As a result of activation, the car’s turning lights should blink 3 times, the siren will emit 3 beeps. Thus, the car alarm draws attention to the car and scares away potential criminals.
  3. Anti-hijack mode, launched using a button or using a key fob. To activate, you must simultaneously click the same keys that are pressed to enable the Panic option. The function can be implemented when the ignition is running. The warning light will blink for the next thirty seconds. After this time, the alarm mode will be activated, at which point the engine starter will be blocked. An icon in the form of a crossed-out gun will light up on the display of the main key fob, and one alarm will sound. To deactivate the function, click the button in the form of an open and closed lock. This mode can be activated using the Anti-hijack button. Press this key, the car engine should be started. To turn off, the button must be pressed and held for five seconds.
  4. To activate the Valet mode, you must simultaneously hold down the keys in the form of an open trunk lock, a crossed out loudspeaker, and a key. The car's hazard warning light should blink four times, and the siren will emit the same number of signals. After which the Valet mode is activated. This will be indicated by the appearance of an icon in the form of two letters Z on the device display. The remote control will emit a melodic signal. Triggering the mode allows you to control only service options. To turn it off, press the same buttons that were pressed to activate it.
  5. Immobilizer. The mode is activated automatically thirty seconds after the driver turns off the ignition. The diode lamp will burn without interruption. If the immobilizer is activated, it will be impossible to start the engine with the key. To disable the mode, you need to click on the activation and deactivation key, made in the form of a closed and open lock. It is also possible to turn off the ignition by pressing the Override or Valet button once.
  6. Turbo timer mode. This function is provided by the manufacturer specifically for cars equipped with turbocharged engines. When the mode is activated, the engine will continue to run for a certain time after the ignition is turned off. The time interval is determined by the car owner; it can be one, three or six minutes.

Operating modes of the diode indicator

You can track the state of the anti-theft system using the LED light:

  • if the indicator lights up continuously, this indicates that the remote start and engine immobilizer mode is activated;
  • if the indicator is not lit, then the security mode is deactivated;
  • one light flash indicates activation of the protective mode;
  • two flashes of the indicator indicate that the daily start option is enabled;
  • the activation of the automatic heating function of the power unit at the specified temperature can be indicated by three flashes;
  • four flashes indicate the operation of the daily remote engine start function;
  • Five blinks of the indicator indicate that the Valet mode is activated.

Remote engine start

To activate this function, you need to press the key-shaped key on the control key fob. The car's turning lights should blink three times, and the siren speaker will emit the same number of beeps.

On the pager screen you can see one of three indicators:

  • the inscription SE indicates an attempt to start the engine;
  • the SP indicator indicates an unsuccessful attempt to start the power unit;
  • If an indicator appears in the form of a car with smoke from the muffler, then the car’s engine has been successfully started, and the control key fob will emit one melodic signal.

In autostart mode, the car’s engine will function for a certain time, which is pre-configured by the car owner. After this, the unit automatically switches off.

To increase the warm-up time by five minutes, you can press the key and lock/lock buttons at the same time. When pressed, the screen of the remote control will display the time remaining until the engine stops.

In what cases will remote engine starting be impossible:

  • if the hood is open;
  • when the ignition is activated;
  • if the parking brake of the car is turned off;
  • when the Valet service mode is activated;
  • if the car is equipped with a manual transmission, but the remote start preparation procedure has not been performed.

To remotely stop the unit, you need to press a key in the form of a key. The car's turning lights will blink four times, and the siren will sound the same number of times. The pager should emit a melodic signal confirming that the internal combustion engine is turned off.

Autostart for cars with manual transmission

How to prepare a car with a manual transmission for remote start of the internal combustion engine:

  1. Place the gear shift lever in neutral.
  2. Pull the parking brake lever, the car engine should be started.
  3. On the remote control, press the key-shaped button. An indicator in the form of a car with smoke from the exhaust pipe should appear on the screen of the main remote control. The key fob will also emit one melodic signal.
  4. The next two steps must be completed within thirty seconds. The key is removed from the lock. If the previous steps were performed correctly, the motor will continue to function.
  5. Leave the car and close the door.

Starting the internal combustion engine based on temperature

To start the engine at a given temperature, keys in the form of a key and an open trunk are pressed. The light alarm should blink once, and the siren will sound the same number of times. An indicator in the form of a fan will appear on the screen of the main remote control, as well as the temperature at which the motor will start. The key fob will play a melodic signal. Disabling the function is done by pressing the same buttons.

To reduce the start temperature, use the following buttons:

  • a key in the form of a closed and open lock programs the engine to start at a temperature of -5 degrees;
  • pressing the key-shaped button reduces the temperature threshold to -10 degrees;
  • one press of the button in the form of an open trunk reduces the engine starting temperature to -20 degrees;
  • If you press the button in the form of a crossed out loudspeaker, the engine will start at a temperature of -30 degrees.

According to reviews, on some machines the temperature-based autostart function of the internal combustion engine may not work, but this is usually due to errors made during the connection.

Starting the engine from a distance

Press button “2” once. The dimensions should blink three times, and the “16” icon will appear on the screen. The engine will run as long as pre-programmed, and then turn off. If you need to urgently increase the engine operating time, you can simultaneously press buttons “1” + “2”. The time will increase by 5 minutes.

However, to start the engine from a distance, a number of conditions must be met:

  • the ignition must be turned off;
  • the hood must be closed;
  • the car must be put on the handbrake;
  • The gearshift lever must be in neutral position.

If at least one condition is not met, the engine will not start and the siren will beep 4 times.

Key fob programming

The Tomahawk 9010 car alarm allows you to store up to four remote controls in its memory; the setup procedure is as follows:

  1. The ignition is turned on; there is no need to start the engine.
  2. Find the emergency mode key Valet or Override. Pinch it.
  3. When the remote control setup mode is turned on, the siren will emit four pulses.
  4. After this, the Override key is released.
  5. The keys for the open trunk and the crossed out speaker are pressed on the key fob. If the “signaling” stores the remote control in the memory, you will hear a signal. One for the first remote control, two for the second, etc.
  6. To exit the programming and linking mode of remote controls, you must not touch the key fob for six seconds.

If the key fob has not passed the binding procedure, it will be deleted from the alarm memory.

Heating at a given temperature


The system has a temperature sensor (located under the hood). It is he who will be responsible for the temperature level when warming up the car.

You can turn on the heating by simultaneously pressing buttons “2” and “3”. When turned on, the lights will blink once and the siren will sound once. When warming up, the screen will display 1 2 temp start.

Pressing this button combination again will turn off the heating.

How to install?

Installation of the “signaling” in a garage is done as follows:

  1. The control module is installed inside the car. It is necessary to choose the most hidden location for installation. Some installers place the module under the dash near the hood release lever. But a more reliable place is behind the glove compartment or control panel, if there is free space there. For installation, you will need to dismantle the dashboard and remove part of the interior trim. The central module must be securely fixed using self-tapping screws so that it does not vibrate while driving.
  2. The signal transceiver must be installed as high as possible in the car interior, for example, near the windshield. This way the transmission of impulses will be most effective. There should be no metal objects or wire harnesses near the antenna.
  3. The siren with speaker is installed in a hidden place under the hood. If a stand-alone device is used, it is necessary to provide access to the hole for installing the service key in advance. The siren must be installed so that its horn is directed downward, this will eliminate the possibility of moisture ingress. At the same stage, you should think about how the wires will be connected. It is advisable to choose the location for their connection in the cabin to prevent possible oxidation of the contacts in the future.
  4. The luggage compartment and hood limit switches are installed so that they are not exposed to moisture. When the trunk and hood are locked, an attacker should not have access to the limit switches.
  5. The shock controller is installed inside the car. It is best to place it in the central part of the body so that the sensor records the physical impact on the car from all sides. The device is secured using self-tapping screws or glue. You can install the sensor in the partition separating the passenger compartment and the engine compartment.
  6. If you plan to use the option of remote start of the internal combustion engine, then you need to install a temperature controller in advance. The device is installed in the cooling system line. The controller must be placed away from the intake manifold.
  7. All high-current wires intended for connecting emergency signals, power, central locking and other elements should be protected using safety devices.

Connecting the plug

To enable the remote engine start option, you must correctly connect the six-pin plug:

  1. The yellow-black contact must be connected to the starter device. The 12 Volt output pulse is connected to the solenoid relay. The contact should be connected to an electrical circuit in which voltage appears when the key is turned to the starter position. This output is considered the main one, since it ensures the start of the power unit. The contact is connected in the area after the motor blocking relay.
  2. The blue output is for activating auxiliary equipment. It must be connected to the lock contact, where there is voltage when the ACC mode is activated.
  3. The thinner red contact represents the power supply circuit for the “signal”. It must be directly connected to the battery, the circuit is protected by a 10 Amp fuse.
  4. The thick red output represents the remote start circuit. It connects directly to the battery through a 30 Amp fuse device.
  5. The yellow contact is intended for connection to the ignition switch. It must be connected to an electrical circuit where there is twelve-volt voltage when the key is turned to the ignition on position. In this case, no current should be lost in this section of the wiring when the key is switched to starter mode.
  6. The green contact is connected to a similar section of the circuit as the output described above.

Service functions

Comfort and convenience will be provided by the following functions:

  1. Valet mode. Disables all functions except Panic mode. Allows you not to leave the key fob there while the car is at the service station.
  2. Climate control. Maintains interior temperature regardless of weather conditions.
  3. Pre-warming the car. Allows you to sit in a cabin that has already been heated to the required temperature.
  4. Bypass the faulty zone. The car alarm does not respond to the sensor, but to the zone where it is installed. If other sensors are connected to a connector that is a zone, they will be disabled even if they are in good working order. When the alarm bypasses a faulty zone, only the faulty sensor is switched off.
  5. Shock sensor. Sends information to the car owner about an attempt to break the glass or open the trunk.
  6. Two-step disarming. After pressing the Q/g button once, the driver's door will open. Pressing and holding this button a second time will disarm the remaining doors.
  7. Illuminated key fob LCD screen.
  8. Self-diagnosis. When the security mode is turned on, all zones are automatically checked: the doors and trunk are tightly closed, the side windows are raised all the way.
  9. Confirmation of functions performed by sound and light signals.

Tomahawk alarm instructions: basic settings of the timer, alarm clock or clock

For the setup mode, use a button on the main key fob with the designation “F in a circle” and buttons with the designation “silhouette of a car with an open trunk lid” and “speaker crossed out with two lines.”

Basic modes for setting the clock, alarm clock and timer (number of presses on the button marked “F in a circle”):

  • Setting the minutes on the clock (number of presses – 1);
  • Setting the clock on the alarm clock (number of presses – 2);
  • Setting the minutes on the alarm clock (number of presses – 3);
  • Turning on (off) the alarm clock (number of presses – 4);
  • Setting the clock on the timer (number of presses – 5);
  • Setting minutes on the timer (number of presses – 6);
  • Turning on (off) the timer (number of presses – 7).

Tomahawk's instructions for setting the clock and alarm suggest the following steps. I start setting the time after setting the clock settings mode (after holding down the button marked “F in a circle”, a field with an electronic clock appears on the liquid crystal display of the key fob).

To set the clock value, use the buttons marked “silhouette of a car with an open trunk lid” (increasing time) and “speaker crossed out with two lines” (decreasing time).

Note: To set the minutes, briefly press the button marked “F in a circle” (the cursor moves from the hour field to the minute field). Increasing and decreasing minutes occurs using the same buttons as when setting the clock.

Also in relation to the Tomahawk alarm, the instructions for setting the alarm are similar to setting the clock. The alarm clock is set after setting the hours and minutes by double pressing the button marked “F in a circle”.

After setting the required hours and minutes for the alarm clock (to quickly start, use the simultaneous pressing of the buttons marked “silhouette of a car with an open trunk lid” and “F in a circle”), by pressing the button marked “F in a circle” four times, exit to the submenu activating the alarm.

To turn the alarm on or off, use the buttons marked “silhouette of a car with an open trunk lid” (on) and those marked “speaker crossed out with two lines” (off).

In relation to the Tomahawk complex, the instructions for setting the timer are as follows: after setting the alarm clock, press the button marked “F in a circle” five times, setting the hour value. Accordingly, you need to press the same button six times, setting the required minute value. After setting the time for the timer, activate (deactivate) it by pressing the button marked “F in a circle” seven times.

Basic autostart malfunctions, causes and solutions

When autostart stops working after normal operation, you can do the following:

  1. Change the batteries in the key fob, most likely this is the cause.
  2. Then the communicator is disassembled and repaired if necessary. Damaged buttons are replaced, swollen capacitors are resoldered. If the remote control has been dropped into water, you need to remove the board from it and dry it in a warm and dry place.
  3. The vehicle may be located in an area with significant radio interference.
  4. Sometimes the security system malfunctions and you need to configure autostart again.
  5. The remote control is faulty or the batteries in the key fob are low. First of all, you need to make sure that the batteries are working and replace them if they fail.
  6. Damage to conductors or oxidation of contact elements on one of the car alarm structural devices. It is necessary to check all components of the anti-theft system, in particular their conductors. If the insulation on the cable has worn off, it must be replaced; oxidized contacts must be cleaned or resoldered. When replacing, use wires with the same cross-section. To prevent rapid wear of electrical circuits, it is recommended to additionally wrap them with electrical tape.
  7. Temperature controller failure. With this problem, the engine will not be able to start based only on air temperature; in other cases, the start will be successful. It is necessary to check the sensor and its wires; if the cable is damaged, the electrical circuit is replaced with a new one. A possible reason may be drops of moisture getting on the connector, then drying the pad will resolve the problem.
  8. If the above steps do not help, you should contact a specialist to reprogram the system.

If Tomahawk autostart does not work initially, the following reasons may exist:

  1. In the X5 model, the settings for the key fob pager were made incorrectly. You can reconfigure them yourself.
  2. An error was made during the installation process. Incorrect installation of the control unit or other structural elements of the anti-theft system. In addition to the microprocessor module, the temperature sensor and the autostart relay could have been installed incorrectly. If one of the components is incorrectly connected, autorun will not work at all or will begin to function incorrectly. It is necessary to diagnose the correct installation of all parts and reconnect them if necessary.
  3. Conflict between the standard immobilizer and the anti-theft system blocker. To solve the problem, you will need to additionally install an immo bypass module.

Model identification for Tomahawk one-way alarms

The old Tomahawk types CL-350 and CL-300 used the same key fobs, both came with the same ones - like most simple one-way alarms.

To accurately determine the brand and model of the Tomahawk alarm, you will still have to get to the central unit, if this is so important: the CL-500 has a built-in blocking relay, while the CL-350 has an external one connected. This is the difference between the two models.

Developing this line, Tomahawk releases the CL-550, which is still on sale. Here the keychains are also the same, the design has become much more aggressive.

The latest car alarm in the one-way line is CL-700. Misunderstandings often arise here - after all, both key fobs (also identical) have a liquid crystal display!

People who have bought cars with installed systems immediately have a question: why doesn’t the feedback work? It shouldn’t - the information on the screen changes every time the corresponding button is pressed, but the key fob will not warn you about an alarm being triggered.
