The bolt pattern in production models is indicated by the symbols 4x98, where 4 is the number of holes for mounting bolts, 98 is the diameter in millimeters of the circle on which they are located. To put it simply, 98 mm is the distance between the central axes of opposite holes. Novice car enthusiasts underestimate another important parameter. The diameter of the hole itself affects the reliability of fastening the wheel to the hub; it must be taken into account when choosing mounting bolts.

Overhang is the distance between the plane of contact of the disk with the hub and the plane that conventionally cuts the rim in the center. There are positive and negative offsets. In the first case, the wheel is recessed into the arch, in the second it is moved towards its outer boundary or even protrudes beyond it. The standard offset of VAZ-2107 wheels is positive and amounts to 29 mm (ET29).

The centering hole for production models is marked with DIA 58.5. The numbers indicate the hub diameter in millimeters. The value of this parameter is important when choosing new disks; if the centering values ​​do not match, a special sealing ring is additionally purchased. The tightness of the fit of the central hole of the disk to the hub is a determining factor; the correct operation of the tires and the absence of “runout” of the wheel depend on it.

The disks are fastened with a 19 mm wrench using steel bolts M12x1.25x27, where 12 indicates the diameter, 1.25 is the thread pitch, 27 is the length of the threaded part. The seat has a cone shape for reliable fixation and centering.

The use of bolts that do not meet the technical requirements leads to vibration of the wheel and contributes to its separation.

Minimum and maximum possible parameters of non-standard disks

So, the smallest disk diameter provided by the VAZ-2107 manufacturing plant is 13 inches. The maximum size should not exceed 15 inches, provided that low-profile tires are available.

The wheel rim must either correspond to the parameters of the VAZ-2107 hub according to PCD - 4x98 mm and according to DIA - 58.5 mm, or its installation will require the use of special adapter spacers. The product with PCD – 4x100 mm can be installed using fasteners with an eccentric.

You can try to get around the 5J-6J rim width limitation by changing the “ET” value. The use of spacers will reduce the size of the offset, which will allow the installation of wider wheels. But the question immediately arises about the appropriateness of these actions.

Giving a more modern look to any older car model is quite appropriate and acceptable in most cases. Changing disks in this sense is no exception. However, if you are carried away by tuning the VAZ-2107, you should not forget about the technical characteristics.

Any re-equipment must be accompanied by an improvement in both appearance and performance. Or at least you should try not to spoil what was originally there.

The VAZ-2107 on 14 wheels looks more attractive than the standard version, but it must be taken into account that a new light-alloy version will lead to additional financial costs due to a change in tire size.
