Electric window lifter VAZ-2110: types, connection diagram and repair


The electric window lifter of the VAZ-2110 will significantly increase the degree of comfort in the car. But any model of device has malfunctions, sometimes the door glass jams - it does not open or close. In this case, as a rule, it is necessary to change the entire power window mechanism. In some cases, you can repair the mechanism yourself. Sometimes jamming occurs due to insufficient lubrication. In this case, you just need to clean the device mechanisms from dirt, and then apply new lubricant.

When VAZ-2110 cars began to be produced, electric windows were not included in the configuration. They were installed very rarely, mainly at the request of the buyer directly at the car dealership. Most car enthusiasts try to save on repairs, so instead of contacting specialized centers for car repairs, they carry out maintenance on their own.

Today there are a lot of kits in stores for installing electric windows on a VAZ car. The simplest and cheapest kit includes only an electric motor with a gearbox. With such a kit you can replace the electric window regulator of a VAZ-2110, but it is better to purchase complete kits.

Choice of window regulators

Before installing new mechanisms, find out what specific types and brands are recommended by experienced car mechanics. On the shelves of automobile stores you can find devices produced by “Granat”. These are the most popular mechanisms, since they have a fairly low cost, but their reliability is high. There are three types of electric windows:

  1. A very high speed of glass movement is provided by articulated-lever window lifters. But they have the highest cost - a kit for the front doors starts at 2,500 rubles. But the quality of workmanship and resource are very high. There is virtually no noise when the mechanism operates. It is very difficult to break this device; even if the glass freezes, the electric motor and mechanism will not fail.
  2. Rack and pinion windows are not of good quality. If the glass freezes, part of the drive may break off or the motor may fail. To ensure good operation of the entire mechanism, it must be lubricated very often.
  3. The cable type of window lifters is the most budget-friendly of all. The speed of glass movement is very slow; if it freezes, the cable may break and the motor may fail. But if such an electric window regulator for the VAZ-2110 does not work, it is not worth repairing; it is easier to buy a new one.

Electric windows are used to raise and lower the windows. To lower the window, you need to press the module button in the driver's door until it clicks. When closing the windows, the button must be raised. The rear doors of the Priora car are equipped with handles for lowering and raising the windows. The Priora has electric windows, which the driver controls when the ignition is on and for a short time after it is turned off. This method of connecting an ESP is not always rational. Many car enthusiasts modify power windows to work without ignition.

Replacing the mechanism

When the ignition is turned off in a VAZ 2170 Priora, the power windows can be used for a short 10-30 seconds. If you open the car doors during this short time, the ESP will no longer work.

There is an old proven method of using lifts without ignition: a jumper is inserted into the ESP relay. But in a Priora car it is impossible to control the windows in this way. Under the socket in the cabin there is an automatic control unit for the electrical package, but the double-glazed window controller will not be able to be in standby mode, there will be a large load on the battery and a large current of energy leakage. The battery will not cope with the load and will fail.

Why doesn't the power window work on the Priora?

There are plenty of reasons: a blown fuse, a poor wire connection, a failure of the electric motor itself. Once the cause of the ESP's inoperability has been identified, repairs can be made. To do this, you need to correctly dismantle the unit.

What to look for when purchasing

Of course, 20 years ago this type of electric windows on the VAZ-2110 would have been the ultimate dream for any motorist. But today, when much better mechanisms can be found on store shelves for quite modest funds, you should not give your preference to cable-operated windows. It is impossible to even imagine how much a VAZ-2110 in this configuration cost in the late 90s. Perhaps this was the first car after the famous 600 Mercedes.

When purchasing, you need to pay attention to the complete set of window lifters. It is advisable to purchase those that have electric motors, all wiring, buttons, plugs, fasteners, and rubber cuffs. Using cuffs, electrical wiring is pulled from the doors to the body pillars.

Preparing to install power windows

Before starting work, you must purchase all the elements for repair. Be sure to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery when working. If this cannot be done for some reason, then remove the VAZ-2110 fuses that power the instrument panel, backlight, control buttons, and car cigarette lighter.

When removing the front door trim, be sure to damage several clips. Therefore, buy a couple dozen of these plastic parts in reserve. Their cost is low, so the purchase will not hurt your pocket. Be sure to study the diagram of the VAZ-2110 car if you do not know where to connect the electric windows. If you are guided by the electrical system of the machine, the installation of the wiring will be carried out very quickly.

Removing the old window lift mechanism

But before installing the VAZ-2110 electric window, the faults of which will be discussed below, you need to completely remove the old one. In general, all work can be divided into several main stages:

  1. Carefully, trying not to damage, remove the front door trim. The power window kit consists of two mechanisms and drive motors. Therefore, they need to be installed on the front doors.
  2. Use tape to install the front door glass in the up position. The main thing is that it does not fall inside the door when dismantling the mechanism.
  3. Unscrew the bolts securing the old mechanism and glass using a 10mm key.
  4. Find the guide, it is secured to the door with 4 nuts. First of all, you need to unscrew the bottom one, then the middle ones, and the last one is the top one.
  5. The window handle is attached to the door using three nuts. You unscrew them last.

After this, you can completely remove the mechanism. If you cannot remove it from the door, you will need to press on the upper fasteners with a screwdriver. After this, be sure to clean the inside of the door so that there is no dust and dirt there. If necessary, you can stick sound insulation. This must be done if you do not want to disassemble the front doors several times.

Another detail that is included in the functional diagram of the car is a cable that is pulled onto a roller, or rather, a groove cut out at its end. The cable has a rough surface and is well tensioned, and therefore allows all the elements shown in the diagram to move synchronously. In addition, the circuit includes a metal guide that prevents the glass from warping.

The scheme works in such a way that the glass moves in both directions strictly parallel to the window opening. The handle rotates, and, according to the diagram, the force is transferred to the cable. The cable is stretched and begins to pull the glass in one direction. The glass begins to move relative to the guide as long as the handle is rotated. As soon as the handle is released, the cable is released and the glass stops.

Installation of a new window regulator

In order to install an electric window regulator on a VAZ-2110 car, you must first place it in the inner space of the door. To do this, you will need to insert it into the largest technological hole in the door. Further work is performed according to the following algorithm:

  1. The mechanism is secured to two studs, which are installed in the holes where the middle nuts of the old window lifter mechanism were located.
  2. Align the fasteners on the glass and mechanism. To do this, you need to connect the electric motor to the battery. After aligning the holes, secure them with bolts, you will find them in the kit.
  3. Since a lot of friction occurs during operation, be sure to lubricate all rubbing surfaces. It is advisable to use the composition CV joint-4.

An electric lift for single rolling out of wheel pairs is used with a lifting capacity of 27 pg with a platform lifting speed of 0-3 m/min.

To transport thermal insulation materials vertically, the following mechanisms are used: electric winches, electric hoists, pulley blocks, elevators, mortar pumps, transport and insulation machines, pneumatic pumps, tractors with booms, telescopic towers, cement guns and others.

Traction electric motors, complete with a wheel pair, are rolled out from under the diesel locomotive onto a ramp ditch using an electric lift. Before rolling out, disconnect the air duct and current-carrying cables from the electric motor and release the brake rods. When rolling out the outer wheel pairs of the cart, additionally remove the ends of the sand pipes, disconnect the speedometer drive, and support the ends of the cart frame with stands.  

Connecting electrical equipment

Now, in order for the power windows to work correctly, you need to connect them. If you are not confident in your abilities, then seek help from an experienced electrician. If you are confident in yourself, you can begin installation. To do this, choose a place to install control buttons. It is advisable to place them where there is easy access to them for both the driver and the passenger. Therefore, the best places for installation are the niche under the handbrake, as well as in the beard of the front panel.

After installing the buttons, it is necessary to lay wires from them to the power source through the VAZ-2110 fuse box. It has several backup sockets with which you can connect power windows. Wires are routed from the electric motors in the doors to the body pillar, and from there to the control buttons. It is imperative to use electromagnetic relays to save buttons from switching high current.

Frequent breakdowns

Regardless of what type of power window is installed, they can still fail, and all failures are divided into mechanical and electrical. The latter includes a malfunction of the VAZ-2110 window lifter button. Possible malfunctions:

  1. If the power window has completely failed, the reason may be that the cable has broken or is stuck. If the window regulator is rack or lever type, look for a breakdown in the mechanism.
  2. Failure of the electric motor due to water ingress. Very often such a breakdown occurs because the electric motor is leaky. Condensation sometimes leaks into it, causing rust to appear, which can cause enormous damage to the electric motor.
  3. Failure of the electromagnetic relay - the window lifter will not be able to work, since the power supply voltage is not supplied to the motor. To check the functionality of the relay, you must install a known-good element.
  4. Check the corresponding fuse link in the VAZ-2110 fuse block. If even when installing a new relay it does not turn on, then you need to look for a fault in the power circuit. Replace the fuse with a new one. If it burns out very quickly, you will need to find where the electrical wiring is short-circuited.
  5. The VAZ-2110 window lifter button breaks very often. It is quite simple to check it; you need to install a new one, or short-circuit the wires using a metal object.
  6. If the power supply circuit is broken, you need to find a place and then restore it.

Very often there is a break between the body pillar and the door. As the door constantly opens and closes, the wire bends and breaks down over time. To correct this situation, it is necessary to lay new wiring.
