To add fresh oil, take an oil pump or syringe with a tube, pump the lubricant through the filler hole to its bottom edge (until it starts to flow out) and tighten the plug.

Filling the gearbox with oil is sometimes carried out using a rubber hose and funnel. One end of the hose is lowered into the gearbox housing, and the other is led out into the engine compartment.
