If the car does not open or close with the Starline alarm key fob, then the main reasons are damage to the structural elements of the anti-theft system or the presence of frequency interference in the area. To resolve problems, you need to make sure that the alarm and battery components are working, that the system is installed correctly, and also diagnose the communicator itself.

Incorrect installation of the system

When installing an alarm system, problems with errors may arise as a result of violations of installation rules. Many specialized centers install the system in a matter of hours, limiting themselves to disassembling the dashboard, one of the thresholds and the glove compartment.

After installation, it is discovered that a web of wires has formed under the steering wheel. Wound with regular electrical tape. The main symptoms of improper installation are:

  • Interference during arming.
  • The presence of an inscription about blocking on the key fob when asking about the status. It should disappear immediately after arming the car, simultaneously with turning off the engine.

Interference at the frequency of the key fob, as a result of improper installation, prevents the door from opening, so you need to press the Valet button, open the car and turn off the system manually.

In this case, it is necessary to check the installation route of the communication module cable. It may not be laid separately, as required by the installation technique, but rather wrapped in a tangle of other alarm wires. A complete disassembly of the dashboard and review of the installation of the entire system will help to detect other problems.

Other options

Above we listed why the Starline alarm system does not open the car, and also told us what to do in each case. These were the main explanations, but there are a couple of non-obvious ones:

  1. The reason that the key fob does not open the doors could be improper operation of the alarm system. For example, if the car owner tried to put Starline in security mode with the door open. When he slams it, the locks will remain open. But, when you try to disarm them, they will be blocked. The system will refuse to open the car. This will have to be done forcibly, against the backdrop of a siren;
  2. Sometimes Starline does not open the car with the key fob after using the autostart option. The root of the problem again lies in the incorrect connection of the wires. For the first time you will have to open the car with the key. If the failure continues, go to an auto electrician.

Well, now you know what to do if the Starline key fob does not open the car. We hope you can resolve the problem on your own.

Broken wire problem

In the transition between the body and the door, in the place where the rubber corrugation is located, the wire responsible for opening and closing the door may be broken. In the open state, due to the bending of the wiring, the contact can function normally, and when closed, the wire opens. You can check this problem as follows:

  • Leave the door open and latch it by inserting a screwdriver or any other rod into the lock latch at the end. The effect should be the same as when closing the door on a bracket mounted on the rack.
  • Press the limit switch in the door opening so that the electronic systems recognize the closing.
  • Security the car. All locks must be locked, and the alarm system will notify you of this with a single sound signal.
  • Press the key fob to open/disarm.

If the opening has taken place, then you need to pull the handle on the door to open the latch and slam it, repeating the whole process again. If the locks do not open after this, then the problem lies in the breakdown of the wire responsible for unlocking.

Other reasons

There are other reasons for car alarm malfunctions, which lead to it not closing the doors or triggering with delays.

  • Software failure due to activation of the security mode when the door is open. In this case, upon subsequent locking, the doors will open, and upon disarming, they will be locked. To fix the problem, it is enough to reprogram the key fob, ensuring that the wires are connected correctly.
  • Wiring problems or installation errors that lead to parallel operations. As a result, when you press the buttons on the key fob, the central lock is alternately opened or closed.
  • If a problem with door locking occurs after turning on autostart, it is enough to review the alarm installation diagram or reinstall the software.
  • If there are no external signs of failure, but the display is faulty, you may need to isolate the system from radio interference.

Disturbances in the operation of transmitting elements occur when the car is at a short distance from:

  • Airport.
  • A noisy metropolis with many vehicles.
  • Secret military facility.
  • Large enterprises.
  • Car stations.

The signal also loses its quality near reinforced concrete structures.

If the alarm key fob does not receive a signal, the possibility of software failures that caused a loss of communication between the control device and the receiver cannot be ruled out. If possible, the system can be reprogrammed independently. This requires turning off the control unit in emergency mode by removing the wires and then synchronizing the device with the key fob.

To reprogram the key fob, you must use the step-by-step guide.

Sometimes the lack of communication between the communicator and the central unit leads to the disappearance of a working application from the device’s built-in memory. If this happens, it will not be possible to synchronize the remote control with the ECU. Before doing this, you will need to perform a firmware recovery.

Problems with the central locking

The central locking is the most vulnerable component of the Starline alarm system when controlled from a key fob. The problem is most often detected when the car is idle for more than 1 minute in security mode. The solution is simple, but inconvenient - you need to use a standard key fob to open the doors, or quickly press the open/close buttons. At the same time, when the car automatically starts, disarming occurs in normal mode.

The problem is caused by the fact that the default key fob is not designed to work when the car is running. Arming and disarming occurs correctly, but the central locks do not work. Channel No. 4 is responsible for opening the central lock, allowing you to flexibly adjust the operation of the function. To solve the problem, you need to configure 2 pulses, one of which is responsible for waking up the bus, and the other for opening the doors. This helps to set the central locking to unlock with just one press of a button. However, this action does not apply to opening the central trunk lock.

Low battery

If the doors do not open from the alarm key fob Starline a 91, Jaguar, Pandora, Tomahawk, Sherkhan, etc., the possibility of the car battery being discharged cannot be ruled out. To verify this, you need to do the following:

  • Gain access to the engine compartment.
  • Assess the condition of the battery. Sometimes, during a visual inspection, it is possible to determine the presence of mechanical defects on the body, which is associated with leakage of electrolyte.

The following procedures for diagnosing the battery are performed according to the following instructions:

  1. You need to disconnect the terminals from the battery and clean the terminals. Otherwise, any traces of oxidation may lead to malfunctions of the alarm system.
  2. Next you need to open the battery cans and assess the level of the working fluid. If it is minimal, you will need to add water using exclusively the distilled version from the auto store.
  3. The next stage involves diagnosing the voltage on the machine with the engine turned off, starting it and re-checking its functionality. The optimal operating value will be 12-13.8 volts. If it is less, it means the battery is discharged; if it is more, it has been overcharged.
  4. If the battery needs charging, it is charged. If there are no changes, you will have to remove the old battery and install a new part.

If the car does not open with the alarm key fob due to the battery being discharged, the driver needs to more closely monitor its charge level and prevent this from happening in the future. To do this, you need to turn off the lights after stopping the car or parking.

Problem with opening doors after autostart

After using the autostart function, the Starline alarm system can block the automatic opening of doors even if the system is disarmed. In this situation, you have to use the key and open the car manually. The problem may be caused by incorrect connection to the central locking control circuits during installation. To solve, it is necessary to reconnect 2 alarm wires responsible for controlling the lock, provided that there are no problems with the circuits responsible for the operation of the seat belt. If the seat belt cover in the driver's seat is closed, the doors will not open.

It is also necessary to take into account the indicators on the key fob - unlocked/closed lock. This indication indicates arming or disarming, but not unlocking or locking the door.

None of the alarm systems, including Starline, have the ability to control the process of opening and closing the central lock and simultaneously display the operation on the lock screen.

How to disable automatic door closing

The Starline alarm system automatically arms the car 30 seconds after disarming it, if there is no one inside the cabin and the doors auto-close. To avoid this, you need to reprogram function 5 from the user manual to the fourth option.

Incorrect operation of closing/opening doors makes up the bulk of problems with car alarms. Moreover, if on cars with the simplest configurations this is expected, since you have to assemble the central locking from scratch and configure all the drives (often of questionable quality), then on modern cars with a CAN bus the installer is not immune from problems arising in the future. Knowing the typical problems that arise with the central locking, the car owner can fix everything himself.

Problems after replacing the battery

After replacing the battery, the doors may not lock, but the key fob will show a signal that the car has been successfully locked. In this case, you need to pay attention to the option of decoupling the key fob. In order to bind it back you need to:

  • Turn off the ignition and press the Valet service button 7 times.
  • Turn on the ignition. After this, the system will emit 7 signals, which indicates that the Starline key fob recording mode has been activated.
  • Simultaneously press buttons 2 and 3 and hold until a signal notifies you of successful recording.
  • Repeat the previous step for all recordable key fobs. Wherein. You must maintain an interval of 5 seconds. The success of the operation is confirmed by a signal.
  • Turn off the ignition. This will be followed by the parking lights flashing five times, indicating that the binding is complete.

The problem of unlocking the doors after replacing the battery may be due to other reasons. Firstly, the central locking connector to which the alarm unit is connected may be damaged. Secondly, the fuse on the alarm wire may burn out or the connection to the car's wiring may break.

What to do if the alarm stops responding to the key fob?

Good to know

If the alarm stops responding to the key fob, the only option to disable the anti-theft system is emergency deactivation.

A special password may be required to complete a task. Depending on your system settings, the code may not be used.

On Starline A1 and A4 models, emergency shutdown without a password is carried out as follows:

  1. The car door opens.
  2. The ignition is activated. The system must be left turned on for 20 seconds.
  3. Press the button to enter the alarm service mode three times.
  4. The ignition is turned off. Security mode must be deactivated.

On the same alarm models, emergency shutdown using a code is performed as follows:

  1. The car door opens, the ignition is turned on and the engine starts.
  2. Using the service button, enter the first digit of the password. The number of clicks must correspond to the symbol.
  3. Then the ignition is turned off and immediately on.
  4. Using the service button, you enter the second digit of the password. After turning off the ignition, the security mode should turn off.

Problems with locking the car with the key fob

The Starline alarm system may have problems locking the car. At the same time, the warning system operates normally, but the doors remain open. The reason may be a simple disconnection of the plug under the driver's seat.

Therefore, the alarm system cannot recognize the signal from the limit switch about the door opening, which entails the automatic installation of the car in the security mode within 30 seconds. The fuses on the contacts in the alarm unit may also be damaged, preventing the signal from being sent. Diagnosis and solution to this problem can be achieved in the following ways:

  • Without removing the key from the ignition switch, you must open the driver's door and then remove the key. Then slam the door and put it in security mode.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
  • Pull the handbrake, remove the key, open the driver's door, press the central locking button to close all other doors, close the driver's door and press the lock button on the key fob.

If after these manipulations the problem is not solved, then you need to contact the Starline service center for advice and a possible replacement of the system during warranty service.

The keychain is broken

What could have happened to the control panel?

  • First of all, check the batteries. Do you remember the last time you changed them? If it’s been a while, we recommend installing new ones.

  • Perform a visual inspection of the key fob. At the same time, try to remember if any trouble happened to him. For example, whether the device fell into water or was subjected to strong mechanical stress. Look for traces of impacts and scratches on the case. Make sure the display works and displays standard icons. If suspicions are confirmed, the remote control must be taken for repair. Or buy a new one.

  • Check to see if the plug located under the driver's seat is disconnected. If yes, stick it in place.

Abnormal opening/closing of doors

In some cases, the alarm is triggered when the door is closed. In this case, the key fob may display information that the door is open. When you close it again and press the corresponding button on the key fob, the car immediately opens and the alarm goes off.

The problem is caused not so much by the system itself, but by the adjustment of the driver's door actuator. It cannot reach the standard traction, and the limit switch does not allow the central locking to open the doors. In this case, there are 2 options:

  • Remove the driver's side door trim and adjust the actuator on the rod.
  • Replace the two-wire activator with a similar system, but consisting of five wires. After this, you need to give him control of the central locking from the standard key fob. It is worth noting that this method is the most effective.
  • After the car has been idle for a long time and the security system has been disarmed, a problem may arise when the doors automatically close immediately. The problem is solved after pressing the open button a second time.

In addition, the wiring insulation may be damaged and the fuse on the green and blue wires in the central locking connector may have burned out. The presence of a short to ground contributes to the spontaneous opening and closing of doors. The problem may also lie in the equipment being in service mode. In this case, the shock sensor will not work. In this case, the key fob will notify you of a malfunction with a signal displaying a wrench. This icon is selected by button 3 and disabled by button 2.

Why don't key fob locks work?

Key fob locks may not work due to the following reasons:

  • problems with the communicator;
  • dead battery in the car;
  • improper installation of the anti-theft system;
  • mechanical damage to any of the wires;
  • problems with the central locking;
  • Difficulty opening doors after auto start;
  • problems after replacing the battery;
  • no signal is generated or recognized.

Problems with the key fob

Problems associated with closing and opening doors can also be caused by a low battery in the key fob. You need to change the battery and check the functionality of the system.

If, after replacing the battery, the alarm still does not close the doors using the key fob, possible reasons may be:

  • mechanical malfunction of the internal components of the communicator;
  • failure due to exposure to moisture on the device;
  • antenna module failure;
  • clogging of contact pads and board elements.

To troubleshoot problems, the following solutions are provided:

  1. The battery is removed from the key fob. To do this, you need to remove the back cover of the device.
  2. The body is being disassembled. Depending on the alarm model and its year of manufacture, this procedure may be performed differently. To disassemble the case, you need to unscrew the bolt connecting its halves. The latter can be located in a special compartment behind the back cover or directly on it.
  3. All components are cleaned using a dry cloth or brush. Any traces of debris and dirt that could cause poor contact must be removed. In some cases, if the stains cannot be removed, you can use alcohol by moistening a cotton swab with it. Pouring liquid directly onto the board is not allowed, as this will damage it.
  4. A visual diagnosis of all components is performed. In practice, poor contact, disconnected wires or a defective capacitor can be seen; the latter should swell. A multimeter is used to test the tracks on the board.
  5. Failed parts of the key fob are replaced with new ones. Components are replaced by soldering. For example, if a button is changed, it must first be carefully unsoldered and then re-fixed; a soldering iron with a thin tip is used to complete the task.
  6. If the display in the key fob is being replaced, but the new screen must be carefully glued. The glue itself is applied carefully in a thin layer around its perimeter.
  7. Further assembly of the device is carried out in reverse order.

Car battery is dead

If the alarm does not open the door locks and generally does not function properly due to a low battery, the user must:

  1. Open the engine compartment.
  2. Perform a visual check of the battery. A possible problem may be a mechanical defect in the housing, due to which an electrolyte solution has leaked out of it.

Further testing of the battery is performed using a tester (multimeter) as follows:

  1. The terminals are disconnected from the device. It is recommended to clean the clamps immediately, since oxidation on the contacts also leads to incorrect operation of the system.
  2. The battery cans are opened and the water level in them is checked. If the electrolyte does not cover the working surfaces of the internal battery cells, adding liquid is required. For this, only special distilled water, sold in car dealerships, can be used.
  3. Voltage diagnostics are performed on the vehicle with the engine turned off, and then it is started and the parameter is rechecked. The operating value should be no less than 12 and no more than 13.8 volts. In the first case, the problem will be in the battery being discharged, in the second - in its overcharging.
  4. If necessary, the battery is charged; if this does not help, the battery should be removed and a new one installed.

Battery test video

User Batteryman in his video showed how to independently test the operation of a car battery using a tester.

Incorrect installation of the system

Installation errors that could affect the fact that the car does not open from the Starline alarm key fob:

  1. The user could, contrary to the instruction manual, place the transceiver with a built-in antenna next to electronic equipment or metal parts of the body. Their location closer than 5 cm will result in interference that will affect the quality of the signal.
  2. The antenna adapter was installed on glass with a protective film, which can create a shielding effect. Therefore, if the windshield is equipped with such a film, then the transceiver is installed on the rear.

Broken wire problem

If the contact on the conductor opens in the open or closed position, then to check and fix the problem, do this:

  1. The vehicle door opens. There is no need to lock it, but it is necessary to create the effect of closure. To do this, an awl, screwdriver or other element with a metal rod is inserted into the lock at the end. It is necessary to achieve a similar effect as in the case of a door closed with a bracket.
  2. The user must then press the limit switch installed in the doorway one or more times. It is necessary to press the trigger so that the microprocessor alarm module can recognize the opening.
  3. The protection mode is activated. This should lead to the door locks being locked, and a corresponding notification will be sent to the display remote control.
  4. The security mode is disabled. If the door locks work, you need to open the door and close it again. If it remains locked, this indicates wear or damage to the cable that is responsible for unlocking. It is necessary to check all power lines connected to the microprocessor signaling device using a tester. The user should ring all contact elements; it would be useful to perform a visual check of the wires for integrity. If all electrical circuits are intact, then you need to diagnose the fuses. Damaged devices are replaced, the same goes for wires. It is recommended to additionally wrap new electrical circuits with electrical tape to prevent rapid wear and damage.

Problems with the central locking

With such a malfunction, the car door lock button may become stuck. To find the cause of the problem, you need to ring all contacts and check the integrity of the wires. Oxidation on the cables is removed by cleaning, and damaged elements are replaced with new ones.

It is possible that the ground contact has become loose from the central locking control unit. A control module malfunction can be eliminated by replacing the device or reflashing it.

Video about repairing the central lock

The “Madeinhome” channel in its video showed in detail the procedure for restoring the electric central locking drive.

Problem with opening doors after autostart

If the car does not lock or open when autostarting, this may be due to two reasons:

  1. Incorrect connection to the central locking control power lines. To eliminate the malfunction, you need to reconnect the two contacts of the anti-theft system, which are responsible for controlling the locking products. But this is recommended to be done only if there are no problems in the electrical circuits through which the seat belts are connected.
  2. There is a conflict in the operation of the immobilizer and the alarm control unit. In the event of such a malfunction, the module will not allow the power unit to start in automatic mode, but the engine will start with the key. To fix the problem, you will need to install an immobilizer bypass.

Problems after replacing the battery

If the alarm stops working after replacing the battery, the communicator must be reprogrammed to perform repairs.

This is done this way:

  1. The ignition in the car turns off.
  2. The button to enter the service mode is pressed seven times. This key is installed discreetly and is usually located under the instrument panel in the cabin.
  3. The engine is started. After the start, the system will begin counting sound signals. At the moment when their number reaches seven, you need to simultaneously press buttons 2 and 3 on the remote control. The device should sound a melodic signal.
  4. The ignition in the car turns off. The external lights should blink five times.

Problems with signal delivery or recognition

If the system does not allow you to arm the car the first time, this may be due to a malfunction of the actuator installed in the driver's door. Your device may need to be adjusted to correct the problem. Most likely, the actuator cannot press the rod installed in the door all the way, as a result of which it remains in the “open” position.

There are two ways to fix the problem:

  1. Remove the trim from the corresponding door and adjust the actuator on the rod. Perhaps this element is simply stuck and needs to be lubricated.
  2. Replace the two-wire activator with a five-wire one. After a successful change, you need to transfer to this device the ability to control the central locking from the standard remote control. This option is the most difficult to implement, but at the same time the most effective.

Other reasons

Other reasons that can lead to a similar problem:

  1. Failure to activate protective mode for the vehicle. When security is disabled, the door locks are locked, and when it is deactivated, they are locked. The problem is that the communicator is not functioning correctly, so it needs to be reprogrammed.
  2. Transceiver or microprocessor location is incorrect. The control unit also reacts to the presence of electronic equipment installed nearby.
  3. Radio interference in the area. A decrease in signal quality, as well as its absence, may be due to the presence of “noise”, as well as the dense architecture of the area. The low range of the communicator is sometimes associated with the presence of transformer substations or manufacturing plants nearby.

Useful tips

In order for the door to open in the event of a problem with the key fob, an emergency deactivation procedure must be performed. It involves introducing a special code value, but sometimes does without it. It all depends on the alarm model.

Interested in how to open a Starline car alarm without a key fob, the user needs to perform the following steps:

  1. Open the door mechanically.
  2. Turn on the ignition circuit and leave it on for 20 seconds.
  3. Press the jack mode button three times.”
  4. Turn off the ignition. If these steps are completed correctly, security mode will be disabled.

You can also use this technique:

  1. Open the car door, start the engine and ignition.
  2. Enter the first digit of the password using the Jack button.
  3. Turn off the ignition and turn it on again.
  4. Do the second step with the remaining numbers.

After eliminating the reasons for the key fob not working, all that remains is to find the best way to eliminate them.

The Starline alarm system is a reliable system that protects the car from theft, but it may cause problems with opening doors using the key fob. They can be caused by a simple decrease in battery charge or incorrect recognition of signals by the system. But in some cases the situation is more serious and there are several ways to solve the problem.

Signs of trouble

The occurrence of any malfunction in the operation of the central car lock instantly manifests itself in the form of a violation of its functionality. In this case, the signs or symptoms of a breakdown correspond to what exactly happened to the system. Therefore, problems can be identified by the following nuances:

  • it is not possible to open the car using the key fob;
  • opening does not work when using the key;
  • the key fob does not lock the car;
  • the key or button does not work when closing the door;
  • one of the doors does not open or does not open;
  • The central locking is triggered, closes everything, but immediately opens without a corresponding command from the driver;
  • locking and unlocking work spontaneously.

We can say that malfunctions manifest themselves in the form of incorrect operation of the system. The central locking system is a complex device that consists of a large number of components and control units. This is a whole network of electrical wires, which sometimes covers the entire car. Given the complexity of the system, consideration should be given to who will carry out the repairs. It is often recommended to entrust this to specialists. At the same time, every motorist has the right and opportunity to know what malfunctions occur with the central locking, what is their cause and how they can be dealt with. Whether to repair it yourself or trust the experts is a purely individual question.

Starline alarm does not close doors using key fob

ViktorS » Mon 20 Feb 2012 0:49

I would like to get advice from experts about the cause of the following problem, because... The picture of the situation in my head is still cloudy

)

I purchased and installed in a specialized service Starline A91 with autostart function. Because The car has a standard immobilizer, so I had to install an immobilizer crawler. While an additional key with a chip is being made, I decided to make a regular key for turning on. ignition and unlock the steering wheel, and put the chip in the lineman (the cold does its job =)). And everything worked, normally (opened, closed, started), but a few days later the following situation occurred - the doors stopped opening from the key fob. That is, the security system is disarmed, but the door does not open (the locks do not even unlock - silence). When armed, the doors close. The central locking works from the inside (opens and closes). That is, the problem is clearly with the signaling. I tried resetting the battery. terminals, looked at the circuit breaks (as far as possible with a quick look) - everything is fine.

By the way, a small comment - the lineman’s power comes from the signaling system (and not from the ignition), that is, now the startup process goes like this: 1. autostart. 2. open the car 3. turn on the ignition 4. press the brake, removing auto start

The solution was found completely by chance and not predictable: 1. Got into the car 2. Turned on the ignition 3. Tried to start it with autostart 4. A light came on on the instrument panel with a picture of a car and a key. 5. After that, I tried to lock and unlock the car and was surprised to notice that the central locking activator had worked.

And now the actual question is - where is the logic? what could be the problem? where to dig? =)

Ivan, I don’t argue that the immobilizer is not connected. Let me clarify - at the moment of arming (and this is done during autostart) the ignition was turned on and after that the alarm began to open (!) the doors again

What kind of schemes can there be when connecting the central locking system? I think they connected a 6-pin harness to the wires under the instrument panel console, they definitely didn’t lead them into the door - I opened it, everything was the same there, there were no new wires.

General characteristics of Starline key fobs of different models

Almost all Starline signaling devices sold in the CIS (a91, a93, a9, a94) are equipped with two key fobs:

The main key fob can be identified by its characteristic small display and the presence of three or more control buttons. Unlike the additional control panel, it is equipped with a small antenna. This variety is always released with feedback.

The main key fob performs an indication function. But its display is intended not only for ease of setup and signaling of intrusion into the car.

Additionally, it performs the following functions:

The number of control buttons depends on the model: the more multifunctional the “signal” is, the greater the number of keys it has. The main key fobs can have up to 5 buttons. The additional control panel does not have an information display and is equipped with three or four keys.

With it you can perform basic actions:

  • activate car security;
  • turn off the alarm;
  • turn off the siren, etc.

Manufacturers can equip the alarm with an additional key fob - a copy of the main one with similar functionality. But this occurs in expensive car alarm models.
