The headlights on the VAZ 2109, however, as in models 2108 or 21099, are made in a single housing, which combines the following lighting devices:

  • DRL;
  • low beam;
  • distant lighting;
  • dimensions;
  • turn signals.

The low beam of VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 should illuminate the road surface so that the driver can see road users at a short distance. The low beam lights up somewhat asymmetrically - when driving on the right, the left side of the road is illuminated a little worse.

Low beam VAZ 2109

The headlight of the VAZ 2114 is very similar to the headlights of the VAZ 2109 and consists of:

  • plastic case. It contains other lighting elements. The lighting source is halogen, gas-discharge and other types of lamps;
  • reflector. Forms a beam of light and can have a parabolic or other shape. It consists of plastic, and to create a reflective effect, a thin layer of aluminum is glued onto it;
  • diffuser. Responsible for transmitting light flux and refracting it, and also protects lighting from external influences. Made from glass or plastic;
  • contact board (lamp holder);
  • sealing gasket. It is located between the car body and the headlight unit.

When operating the lighting system of a VAZ 2108, 2109 and 21099 car, the driver may encounter the fact that the headlight does not light up.

Types of lamps

All light bulbs that can be installed in the VAZ 2108, 2109 and 21099 are divided into 2 categories:

  • head lighting models. Placed on the front left and right headlights to illuminate the road ahead;
  • additional lighting models. Represented by side lights, brake lights and other non-main light sources.

Types of automobile lamps
Ordinary incandescent light bulbs that are used in the VAZ 2109 are of the following types:

  • AKG 12-60/55 (60/55 W). They are halogen, equipped with 2 spirals for low and high lighting, and have an H4 base. Usually they light up in the headlights of a car. There are varieties on sale with a painted bulb (green, blue, yellow), however, when driving with them in rainy or foggy weather, such a bulb will only reduce visibility;

  • A 12-21-3 (21 W). One of the most popular headlights in VAZs. Installed in brake lights, turn signals, tail lights. There are different LED analogues for replacement;
  • A 12-10 (10 W). Used on dimensions. Their analogues are SMD LEDs;
  • A 12-4-1 (4 W). They are used in the left and right headlights, on side markers, and also to illuminate the storage compartment in the cabin;
  • AC 12-5-1 (5 W). This model often lights up in the rear license plate lights of the car, as well as in the interior;

  • A 12-5-2 (5 W). The model is used for left or right turn signals.

In addition to incandescent lamps, the VAZ 2109 widely uses LEDs as an advantageous replacement. LED lighting sources are several times more durable, shine brighter (while providing a cool glow), and are sold with various bases.

Reasons for failure

What are the reasons that the headlight does not light up:

  • The fuse blows. This is due to shaking while driving or power surges. To repair the lighting system, you will only need to replace the fuse itself, which can be found according to the diagram presented on the cover of the unit;
  • light bulbs burn out;
  • the low beam relay becomes faulty;
  • fuse contacts oxidize;
  • deformation of the sockets of the headlight switch lever clamps occurs;
  • The lever mechanism is jammed.

A breakdown may be accompanied by a lack of operation of the lighting system or its incorrect operation. Even if only one headlight (left or right) is broken, this will significantly reduce visibility and increase the likelihood of an accident.

Reasons for headlight failure

To fix the problem, you need to replace the entire car's headlights or their components. To do this, you need to know which components of the lighting system can be installed on the VAZ 2109.

Systematization of car headlights

In order to correctly navigate the huge number of other optics options for passenger cars, namely VAZ , let’s look at more common light sources.

  • An incandescent lamp is a tungsten filament placed in a sealed test tube made of strong glass. When heated, the iron filament emits tungsten from the surface and emits a beam of light. The downside of such a light source is its short service life compared to other auto optics. Over time, tungsten becomes thinner and the lamp burns out. In addition, due to constant evaporation, the optics darken over time.
  • A halogen lamp differs from an incandescent lamp in that inside the test tube with an iron filament is halogen gas (in most cases I or Br). Thanks to the gas, the heating temperature of the filament increases, and the lighting capabilities of the headlight improve. In addition, a halogen lamp lasts many times longer than an incandescent lamp (up to 1000 hours).
  • A gas discharge lamp allows for an even stronger design. Such lamps are also called “High intensity discharge” or HID. Illumination occurs due to the heating of gas under high pressure. HID lamps use xenon due to its highest light output. The disadvantage of a similar lamp is its high price, because... To operate such a device, special equipment is required.
  • Light-emitting diodes or LED are a very effective, long-lasting and colorful lamp. An LED is a semiconductor device that converts electronic current into light. In recent years, diode lamps have become more popular than others due to their relatively low price, bright light and long service life - more than 3 thousand hours.

LEDs

The more common halogen headlights evenly make way for LED ones. LED headlights have not yet begun to be used everywhere, but their introduction reduces service costs, their service life is even longer than others, and their energy consumption is lower. But to this day, the most prestigious headlights are xenon ones. Let's compare them.

Standard equipment VAZ-2109

The average power of the lighting devices that come with the VAZ-2109 car is equal to about 60 Watts. Despite their low power, such headlights can easily serve for 10 years, and with careful use, even more. But if you received an uncertified headlight, its service life will not exceed several weeks.

There are quite a lot of headlight models for the VAZ-2109, but unlike the “official” models, it is not produced on an industrial scale, but is purchased as a piece. Therefore, when choosing, you should focus only on your own experience and the integrity of the manufacturer. In the 2nd part of the article we will tell you what to pay attention to when choosing headlights, but for now we will talk about tuned headlights, their systematization, varieties and distinctive features.

#13. Headlights 2108

Briefly: Restoring factory headlights. Spent 2 days. For the money: material - 800 rubles.

In detail: After using the Prosport headlights for a short time, we were impressed by the quality of their work and decided to return the factory ones back. There were several reasons for this, namely: — Low beam. At first everything was pretty good, the light was fine. But after I drove with ordinary eighth headlights, I felt the difference was not in favor of tuning; - High beam. Or rather, its absence. The installed modules shone more on the sides than in the front; - Turn signals. They seem to be there, but they don’t glow at all. These several half-dead diodes can hardly be seen only in the dark. And even then, if the light is turned off;— Adjustments. Like high beams, there are none either. In principle, this is not critical, given that there is essentially nothing to regulate. Although there are some screws there, they are, as you understand, not very much use;— Glass. Or rather, plastic. He scratches willingly. After six months of driving, it certainly hasn’t turned yellow, but it requires polishing. It was necessary to glue a protective film, it would have looked much more alive.

The list goes on and on. Of course, I didn’t reveal any secrets, and complaining about Prosport optics is such a thing... well, you understand.

Theory At first it was planned to completely wash down the optics with lenses and glass grinding. But for now we decided to limit ourselves to simply tidying up the drain. At this point I will describe the modification of the front lighting in general terms, maybe it will be useful to someone.

So, is there any point in such tuning? After a little wandering around the Internet, I collected some information on this topic. First, a little theory. All headlights can be divided into three types: reflector, modular and lensed.

Reflector headlights have a reflector, that is, a reflector. This is a concave mirror surface that forms a light beam of the desired shape. In modern headlights, the reflector has a stepped structure that looks like a faceted glass. In earlier headlights, the reflector is smooth, like that of the same nine. If there is one reflector in the headlight, then it is responsible for the low and high beam. If there are two reflectors, then such a headlight is called a two-section headlight. In it, one reflector is responsible for the near beam, and the other for the distant one. In turn, reflector headlights are divided into crystal and corrugated. Crystal

- these are headlights with a segmented reflector and transparent glass or plastic. In general, headlights made of glass are preferable to plastic, since it does not become cloudy, does not scratch, does not turn yellow, and does not deteriorate the illumination of the road. However, plastic has an advantage - it is not so fragile.

Another type of reflector headlights is corrugated

. They are usually glass. These headlights have a reflector and corrugated glass, that is, a diffuser that forms the luminous flux. These are the familiar headlights on VAZs and old foreign cars.

The second type of headlights is modular. Or modular optics. In general, modules are independent sealed optical elements. They, like headlights, can be reflective or lensed. Separate high and low beam modules are installed in modular headlights. It also includes turn signals and dimensions. Instead of glass, a fiberglass mask is installed. For nine, I bought/installed a complete set and it costs between 11-15 thousand rubles.

Well, the last type of headlights is lensed. They are also floodlight optics. Consists of a converging lens. Often, such headlights use a mono lens for low beam, and for high beam, a second section, a reflector, is installed in the headlight. But it’s also not uncommon for headlights to use two mono lenses.

Lensed headlights have many advantages over reflective optics. For example, a lens in a headlight has a higher efficiency, that is, almost all the light falls on the roadway; moreover, a lensed headlight has more efficient light distribution - instead of a bright spot of light, uniform illumination is spread in front of the car. At the same time, such a headlight has a clear cut-off line, a wider illuminated part of the road, and are better visible.

From this it is concluded that the lensed headlight shines better than the factory reflector corrugated one. Actually, to upgrade a standard headlight, you need the lenses themselves and transparent glass.

As for the lenses. They are divided into two main types: mono lenses and bi lenses. Their difference lies in the fact that in a bi-lens the curtain can move, that is, it is possible to switch from low to high beam and vice versa. In a mono lens, the shutter does not move, so you can use either only low beam or only high beam, depending on the lens itself. In other words, you cannot put a double-filament H4 lamp into a mono-lens and have a near and far one. Lenses are also divided according to the type of lamps used: halogen and xenon. As you know, the operating temperature of halogen lamps is much higher. Therefore, halogen lenses differ from xenon ones in design, for example, in the presence of heat filters.

Well, you can’t insert an H7 halogen into a bi-xenon lens and drive quietly. There are many cases when glass, cartridges melt, lenses fail, and so on. And all because of ordinary overheating.

So, the conclusion is that in order to insert lenses into optics and have near and far, bi-lenses are needed. Well, depending on the lamps used, these will be either bi-halogen or bi-xenon lenses. The latter are popular among can manufacturers because they cost much less than bi-halogen ones, they are much easier to get, there is a large selection, and the light from xenon is many times superior to halogen. They have only one problem - gays
