The consumer has always been faced with the question: which wipers to buy - framed or frameless. Both types have their pros and cons. Let's look at which windshield wiper blades fit the size of the Lada Granta, indicate the article numbers and manufacturers. This will help when choosing, so as not to make a mistake by a couple of extra centimeters.
Review of frameless wipers on Lada Granta
Let's start with frameless ones:
- Bosch (3397118907). This company produces windshield wiper blades for many cars. For Lada Grants, they are available in lengths of 600 and 400 mm. Like the entire line, they clean very well, are durable and do not scratch the glass surface. This product is manufactured in Belgium.
- SWF (119840, 119860). The main production is located in Poland and France. SVF is a subsidiary of Valeo, which is known for its high-quality spare parts. The length and type of fastening are ideal for the Lada Granta.
- Horse is a domestically produced windshield wiper for the Lada Granta, the size of which is 600 and 410 mm, which is completely suitable. There is one caveat: to install them on a car you will have to use an adapter for a hook.
Review of frame wipers on Lada Granta
- Bosch (3397004673, 3397004667). This is an inexpensive substitute for the frameless option from a world famous brand. They run well, don't creak and last quite a long time.
- Bosch (3397010297). This is another inexpensive option for brushes, where a pair is already combined in one package, 60 and 40 cm long.
- Champion (A60/B01, A41/B01). They have a metal frame and are considered a premium class among frame wipers.

Methods for connecting windshield wipers.
The connection diagram for windshield wipers can be divided into two types, depending on the method of connecting the operating mode switch.
In the first connection method, a constant plus is supplied to the wiper drive electric motor, and the mode switch connects the motor elements to the minus. This method is widely used in foreign and domestic cars.
The second method is completely opposite to the first, that is, power is supplied to the electric motor through the mode switch, and the minus in this case is taken from the drive housing.
I propose to consider the principle of operation of a car windshield wiper circuit using an example, where plus is supplied to the electric motor through a mode switch, since this is the more common connection method.
The diagram shows the connection of a windshield wiper drive with an electric motor powered by permanent magnets and having two operating speeds. The difference in speed in this circuit is ensured by the displacement of one of the positive brushes relative to the physical center of the electric motor armature.
Where is the wiper relay located on the Granta liftback?
Many motorists are faced with the fact that their windshield wipers periodically stop working properly, suddenly turning on or off. In 95% of cases, the reason lies in the relay - regulator. It is located under the dashboard on the left side. For access with subsequent replacement, you will need to unscrew the plastic cover and remove the relay. Next, replace it with a new one and close the plastic case again.
The Grant liftback rear (front) wiper relay has several pause modes. This is very useful for reducing the frequency of cleaning when there is light rain. The pause range varies from 1 to 65 seconds. The driver independently regulates the most optimal mode. Catalog number: 723.3777. The product is completely identical to the relay on the VAZ, Priora, Kalina, Kalina 2 models. On VAZ models produced before 2001, a relay with four contacts is installed, unlike the new ones, which have six.
How to choose the correct wiper size?
For the Lada Granta model, regardless of its level of equipment, windshield wipers have identical sealing parameters: 600 mm for the product installed on the driver’s side and 410 mm elements on the passenger side. We talked about the fact that the size of the wipers needs to be chosen carefully.
Now there are products on the market from unscrupulous manufacturers. These entities indicate the standard parameters of the blades on the packaging, but the packaging contains products whose wiper blade sizes differ from the declared values. To avoid an unpleasant moment, it is necessary to invite the seller to jointly measure the actual parameters of each of the brushes in the kit for the LADA Granta model.
If the buyer purchased components with a parameter that differs from the regulated value, then there is a risk of poor quality cleaning of the glass after installation. This is due to the varying degrees of down force created by the wiper, which depends on the size of the wiper blades. If there is a specimen with an overestimated length, then its clamping value will be greater, which will negatively affect the service life of LADA Granta glass. On the contrary, windshield wiper blades with a shorter length do not have sufficient pressing force, which will negatively affect the quality aspect of cleaning.
Come on, get moving: why the wipers stop working and how to fix a trapeze
Just about simple things
The trapezoid of the wipers is the same mechanism due to which the rotational movement of the brush drive motor is converted into their translational movement. At first glance, there is nothing complicated about the trapezoid: several rods, articulated joints and bushings. Moreover, it is not clear what could break there. Usually nothing breaks, it’s just that over time the connections become clogged with dirt, corrode and lose mobility. And in the case of such arthritis in the trapezius, the wipers first walk more slowly, then they simply stand up. There is another scenario: the engine is on fire. It’s better not to wait for this, but to start repairing. Depending on their greed, the services ask for different amounts of money for this work. Some are ready to do it for five hundred rubles (which is rare), others – for one and a half thousand (which is more common). Not robbery, of course, but many will most likely want to tinker with their favorite car themselves. Therefore, we will tell you how to do this. At the end there will be a bonus for those who read the instructions after they have already broken everything. The work has one significant advantage: it does not require complex “devices”, torque wrenches, a lift or a synchrophasotron. For example, we did everything with an ordinary set of tools from a well-known store for 600 rubles. In addition to a screwdriver, keys, hammer and Torx, you will also need graphite lubricant and some kind of liquid wrench like WD40, Valera, Runway or any other - everything is up to your taste.
Almost all trapezoids are constructed the same way and sour in the same place. We will take the Ford Focus as an example, the trapezoid of which has stubbornly turned sour at the most inopportune moment for three generations in a row. Stability, damn it. There is also a whole list of cars in which the trapezoid sours more often than we would like: from the Mercedes W204 to the Hyundai Elantra IV and any Kia Ceed. The principle will be the same everywhere. Therefore, we will tell you how to do everything on a Ford, and if you are lucky enough to buy another car, just carefully project this guide onto your car.
Bolts, latches and flexible pins
First, remove the wiper arms. Everything is simple here: remove the protective caps, unscrew the nuts and pull them off their axles. There is nothing complicated here.
Then we move on to dismantling the plastic frill. Focus has two parts – upper and lower. The top half is attached with simple latches that can be easily moved with a screwdriver. The main thing is to hold them tightly with your fingers, because at the last moment the latch may fly somewhere into the engine compartment. We put the removed latches together with the nuts and washers from the wiper arms, pull out the rubber seal from the groove and remove half of the frill. And again, all this is not difficult to do.
At this stage, the trapezoid is already clearly visible. Some people are already stopping here and taking her out of the car. To be honest, this is not very easy, so let's work with the screwdriver a little more and disassemble the car a little more. It is enough to unscrew just two bolts with Torx heads to remove the lower part of the frill. But access to the trapezoid will be downright chic. Therefore, we spend a couple more minutes and remove this part.

You just have to do this carefully: Ford engineers (damn them for just one hood lock!) for some reason made the windshield heating two-zone, so the connectors for heating the glass halves are visible on the right and left under the frill. If you swing the removed plastic like Taras Bulba with a saber, you can damage the cables.
So now we can see the trapezoid in its entirety.
In our case, the trapezoid is secured with three bolts, which we unscrew. Now you can pull it out, but again, very carefully. There is nothing surprising in the fact that there are wires that connect to the trapezoid motor, which do not need to be torn. You need to remove the terminal, but this is easier to do if you slightly pull the entire trapezoid into the light of day. The length of the wires allows this, and Ford engineers (let them be empty for all the electrics!) placed the connector latch at the bottom. So it is very, very difficult to hold it in place. Therefore, we pull the trapezoid out a little, then remove the terminal.
That's it, the trapeze is in our hands. You can breathe out. But not much, because the most difficult thing awaits us ahead.
A little strength and a lot of skill
Trapezium hinge joints are usually made from polyformaldehyde. It is such a durable material with very low friction. For example, recently mediators for guitarists have often been made from it. And for machines - these are the connections where the friction force should be minimal and wear resistance should be high. It also does not rust, which is also good. Due to all these factors, we can say that it is almost pointless to disassemble the hinges: nothing will turn sour there, and breaking the connection for the sake of curiosity is harmful. Well, if you do take it apart, you can remove the dirt from there. This will not be superfluous.
Now let's move on to our main enemy. The trapezoid sours precisely in these places: these are the bushings with the axles of the leads. No matter how much they try to protect them with all sorts of caps and rings, water still gets inside and does its dirty deed.
The axles must be pulled out of the bushings. To do this, first remove the protective cap and retaining ring. I won’t warn you about the meanness of the latter: everyone knows that it can fly anywhere. But with some skill it is not difficult to remove.
And now the dancing with the tambourine begins. More precisely, with a hammer, a Vedashka and swear words. If the trapezoid has not yet completely soured and the wipers are at least moving somehow, it will be much easier to knock out the axles. Otherwise it will be difficult. In addition, you will have to knock with a hammer on the end on which the thread is cut for the wipers themselves. If you do this with fanaticism, then you won’t be able to put the wiper in its place. And without fanaticism, it is difficult to knock the axle out of the bushing.
Liquid keys will help here (but this is not certain). For those who have not used them before, I will give one piece of advice: it is useless to spray on the axle and hit it with a hammer at the same time. First you need to splash the soured compound, then wait five to ten minutes, then you can knock with a hammer. If the axis has moved even slightly, the procedure should be repeated. There is no such thing as an extra “Vedashka”.
So, let's say that we managed to knock out the axle. All that remains is to lubricate it. Many people mistakenly believe that the same WD-40 softens corrosion so well, removes moisture and works other miracles. And also - that the parts on which it fell never rust. This is wrong. As long as this miracle liquid has not dried, the axle will even rotate quite well in its bushing due to the small amount of oil in the “wheel drive”. But it won’t last long, as is the case with any other “liquid key”. They are poor lubricants, so as soon as the axle dries, it needs to be lubricated. Graphite grease is best. Well, when the axis is generously lubricated, everything can be assembled in reverse order. Anyone who has taken it apart once can always put it back together.
Only one point is important: before installation, it is advisable to place the trapezoid in the position in which it once soured. Otherwise, there is a non-illusory chance that after the first turn on, the revived mechanism will grind both the wipers and itself.
Promised bonus
Unfortunately, for very strong and stubborn people, repairing a trapezoid often ends in its complete destruction with the help of a hammer and their own stupidity. The platform on which the motor stands is often made of a rather fragile alloy that does not withstand the tenacity of the hammer owner. It breaks, and in this case no miracles like Suprotec, blue electrical tape and dimexide will help. There is only one way out - buy another trapeze. New, original, analogue, disassembled, Chinese - a matter of money, preference or religion, the choice is yours. The main thing is that free work will result in spending on new spare parts and unnecessary actions associated with rearranging the engine. You can, of course, buy it assembled, but it will be noticeably more expensive.
And when buying a trapezoid from disassembly, you need to check it thoroughly. In the best case, it will also be sour, and it will have to be disassembled and lubricated in the same way. At worst, it can be broken: over time, the polyformaldehyde connections wear out and begin to play. And it is no longer possible to fight this.
Types of windshield wiper blades
After establishing the authenticity of the wear of the windshield wiper blade and the reasons that led to it, we head to the store. Traders are able to offer a lot of options for these products, but in general they are divided into two categories:
- frame;
- with no frame.
These groups of brushes for Lada Granta have significant differences. Frameless options are able to adhere more tightly to the glass surface, which provides better cleaning quality. These products are not so susceptible to freezing. They also create a relatively less noise effect while driving (at speed).
Frame elements also have a number of advantages.
- They are more gentle on the glass surface because they have less pressure.
- If the glass geometry has an increased bend, like the LADA Granta, then this type of wiper blades is capable of cleaning a much larger area compared to a frameless competitor.
- Lower price of these designs.

What are the causes of breakdowns?
The most likely factor causing the wipers to stop is the blown working element in the fuse. Eliminating this malfunction involves performing the simplest action - replacing the fuse link. It is located in the corresponding mounting block, located on the left side of the steering column. It will be useful to stock up on a fuse diagram, which will help you easily find the insert we need.
When the purifiers stopped functioning intermittently, the control relay most likely became unusable. This component is also located in the previously designated block. When a relay fails, it is replaced with a new analogue. However, we note that according to numerous reviews from owners of domestic small cars, certain statistics have been formed indicating the small number of cases of breakdowns of this kind.
The most common cause is the destruction of bushings. They are made of plastic, so they do not boast a long service life, which reaches a maximum of three years. The process of destruction of elements is primarily influenced by the quality indicator of the material. Here, the only effective measure is replacement, and to carry it out you should acquire a repair kit, which is available at a specialized retailer. In this case, the trapezoid is replaced.
When is it necessary to replace wipers?
Replacing windshield wiper blades on Lada Granta is seasonal. Like many global automobile manufacturers, Lada recommends changing wipers twice a year: before winter and after the spring season. But, there are signs that the windshield wiper blade is already deteriorating.
Signs of bad wipers
Let's take a closer look at these factors:
- Cloudy glass. Of course, this may be the cause of poor windshield washer fluid, but in some cases, only replacing the windshield wipers that have a buildup that prevents them from cleaning the glass properly will help.
- Lots of stains and uncleaned areas. Usually, the reason for this is wear on the rubber bands of the brush.
- Vertical uncleaned stripes. This is more of a frame-type disease of windshield wipers. The reason may be deformation of the frame itself or wear of the rubber bands.
- Narrow stripes. In this case, it is the wear of the rubber bands.
Possible causes of problems
Some experts argue that if the windshield wiper blades do not work when turned on, then the most common reason for this is a failed fuse. In this case, no special efforts will be required to fix the problem. You just need to open the fuse box cover (on the left under the steering column) and find the appropriate fuse. A diagram printed on the inside of the lid will help you do this.
If the wipers do not work intermittently, then the relay may have failed. It is located in the same place as the fuses. It needs to be replaced with a new one. But, as statistics provided by owners of Lada cars show, fuses or relays blow out quite rarely.
A very common reason why the Lada Kalina windshield wiper blades do not work is the destruction of the bushings. As experienced drivers say, plastic bushings fall apart very quickly - their service life is at most 3 years.
Perhaps the reason for their destruction is the quality of the plastic. But, alas, there are no other bushings. The repair kit can be found in specialized auto stores.
When the wiper drive does not work, the reason may be a failure of the motor that drives them. To find out whether the electric brush drive has really burned out, you need to check whether electricity is supplied to it. This can be done using a tester. If power is supplied, then the overheated motor needs to be replaced.
Frame, frameless, combined
What a “frame wiper” is is clear to everyone: the design of the unit uses a metal frame. The role of the frame can be performed by a narrow strip made, for example, of plastic. And then the structure is called frameless (see figure). By the way, the plastic itself can differ in rigidity, and it is also sometimes reinforced.
Three types of wipers
Hybrid or combined designs use a frame and a plastic strip (bottom picture). In general, a hybrid differs little from a frame wiper: the height is reduced, other characteristics are the same. So, there is no need to delude yourself about the use of “hybrid wipers”.
Winter brushes
If tourmaline is added to rubber, such material will be good at removing oil films. And if the wiper frame is covered with a cover, this will protect the structure from ice. This means that, in general, winter brushes are frame brushes with a plastic cover.
“Winter wipers” can only be frame ones
And for some reason it is believed that it is necessary to clean glass from oil products in winter.
The disadvantages of winter windshield wipers are listed below:
- Availability of a frame (required);
- Increased weight of the structure;
- High price.
In theory, any winter brush is also suitable for summer. The main thing is not to use frameless brushes in winter, since they are not intended to fight ice.
The many faces of U-Hood
Some brushes compatible with the U-Hood (J-Hood) mount have a tricky lock: to loosen the mount, you need to bend the lever. This lever itself is difficult to notice right away (Fig. 1).
To tilt the lever at least to some angle, you must first squeeze two buttons (Fig. 2). So, the sequence: squeeze the buttons, tilt the lever.
Tips for choosing brushes for Granta-liftback
After selecting the product model you like, we recommend paying close attention to its quality aspects. To implement this action, we arm ourselves with the following methods
- The smell. An original and high-quality product is devoid of such a bright property as smell, or the factor manifests itself to a very insignificant extent. Counterfeits and China reek of an unpleasant odor.
- Wiper blade size and flexibility. Quality windshield wiper blades are not overly flexible. If this point (slight flexibility) is present, then purchasing such “devices” is not recommended.
- Manufacturer's marking. All brand products have this marking located directly on the surface of the part. Chinese false analogues do not have this property.
- Appearance. The quality of design of original products (coloring, the same markings, etc.) is always at its best. If there are defects (crooked fonts, uneven coloring, etc.), then this is direct evidence of the presence of a counterfeit product.
Types of wipers
There are two types of wipers for the Lada Granta:
- Frameless. Such products are better pressed against the surface of the windshield, which allows for better cleaning. Due to the absence of a frame, such devices practically do not freeze during the frosty season, which greatly simplifies their operation in winter. In addition, when operating at high speed, frameless products produce an order of magnitude less noise.
- Frame. This option is older, since it was previously widely used on many cars. Their cost is lower, but they are equipped with a frame, which in any case will freeze during cold weather. However, products of this type tend to cause less damage to the surface of the windshield, since they are not pressed against it as tightly, unlike frameless options.
There is also a hybrid version of the product, but it has the same characteristics as frame wipers, so we do not recommend choosing it. The most technologically advanced option is frameless products, but their cost is higher (the author of the video is the remgar channel).
Rear window wipers
Malfunctions in the operation of rear window wipers are usually associated with the steering column switch, gear motor, power wires, broken drive teeth, and worn brushes. The relay does not affect the operation of the rear wipers, so its malfunction can be ruled out. The methods for eliminating other breakdowns are the same as for the front wipers.
Repair of windshield wipers mainly comes down to replacing damaged components, cleaning electric motor parts, cleaning and lubricating moving joints, and straightening deformed levers. Repair costs are low, and using contract spare parts from JapZap will keep them to a minimum. The procedure for dismantling and installing different components of this assembly may differ in different cars, but the general principles for troubleshooting are the same.
How to troubleshoot purifier malfunctions yourself?
When the owner of LADA Kalina turns on the windshield wiper drive, the motor works, but the wipers refuse to move, then the bushings will have to be replaced. For this purpose, the trapezoid of the wipers is dismantled, which is covered by a decorative plastic panel. The location of the unit (trapezium) is directly under the windshield. Repair of the windshield wiper is carried out using the windshield wiper trapezoid repair kit in the following order:
- unscrew the fasteners of the brushes and remove them together with the leads;
- then we dismantle the decorative protection panel, for which we stock up on a Torx T20 wrench;
- we move on to removing the trapezoid itself, which is held on the frontal body element by means of a nut and a pair of bolts, using, if necessary, a repair kit for the windshield wiper trapezoid;
- Next, you will need to disconnect the supply lines of the unit from the battery;
- Now you can remove the assembly.
If you resort to replacing the bushings without removing the trapezoid, you create a risk of deformation of the hinges, which will lead to incorrect operation of the brushes. A destroyed bushing will immediately give itself away, so we boldly proceed to the “operation”. The element is removed using wire cutters. Before installing the new bushing along with the lock washer, you will need to preheat it in boiling water, which will allow you to easily slide the specified element onto the hinge. Also, before installing the ring, lubricate the bushing with a suitable substance, for example, lithol.
How to remove the trapezoid assembly
Before proceeding with the removal, it is necessary to remove the wiper arms, as well as the plastic lining at the very bottom of the windshield, which I wrote about in the instructions for replacing the Kalina cabin filter. There you will need just TORX T20.
After these pads are removed from the car, you can begin to unscrew the bolts and nuts securing the trapezium itself. First, unscrew the bolt on the left, as shown in the photo below:
Then in the center:
And you also need to unscrew one nut on the right side, it’s best to use an open-end wrench there:
Now there is nothing holding the trapezoid and now you can tilt it slightly forward:
To remove it from its seat:
And in order to finally remove it, all that remains is to disconnect the power plug of the motor. It was not possible to photograph everything in its original form, but there is nothing complicated there - bend the latch and pull the plug towards you. You will also need to remove it from the hole in the body in which it is mounted on a latch (clip). Here it is after removal:
Operations for removing the gearmotor from a Lada Granta car
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.2. Remove the windshield wiper mechanism (“Removing and installing the windshield wiper mechanism for Lada Granta”).
3. Check the position of the trapezoid rods: they should be located on the same line. If this is not the case, set the rods to the required position, otherwise after removing and then installing the gearmotor, the trapezoid crank will take an incorrect position on the axis of the gearmotor.
4. Mark the relative position of the gearmotor shaft and crank.
5. Loosen the crank nut with a wrench and unscrew...
6. Remove the crank from the gearbox shaft
7. Remove the three bolts securing the gear motor to the windshield wiper...
8. ...and remove the gearmotor.
9. Install the windshield wiper motor in the reverse order of removal, aligning the marks made during removal. Lubricate the linkage joints with grease before assembling. Before installing a new gearmotor, it is necessary to adjust it (set it to the end position). To do this, do the following: - connect the wiring harness block to the gearmotor; - place the gearmotor in the opening of the air intake duct; - connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery; - close the hood; - turn on the ignition; - turn the windshield wiper to the operating position for 10-20 seconds and then turn it off - the gear motor will be installed in its extreme limit position.

- You need to clamp the brush on both narrow sides and pull it towards the hood, down;
- With gentle rocking, you need to pull the brush out of the hook in which the rotation axis is located.
If the brush is no longer used in the future, dismantling can be done with a jerk. In this case, the plastic clamp will most likely break. Installation is performed in reverse order
It is important to remember: plastic becomes brittle in the cold. Freezing temperatures can cause it to break.

The overall dimensions of both generations of cars are identical. It should be noted: AvtoVAZ purchases ready-made brushes from Bosch. After which it carries out installation directly on the conveyor. Uses original packaging for products made in Germany. Therefore, you can safely purchase brushes from other manufacturers.
It will not be possible to find original ones made in Togliatti. The standard size is 410 mm on the passenger side, 600 mm on the driver’s side. The first generation car was released in a sedan body.
