Leaks and problems

The higher the mileage of the VAZ 2104, the more problems appear, as in principle with any car. Most often this is due to natural wear and tear of the engine, causing oil to burn. Although the manufacturer allows for a small consumption.

There can be many reasons why an engine eats oil. And in each case they can be individual. But, over the years of the model’s existence, we can talk about the most common places where leaks occur.

If the breather is spewing or throwing oil, or if there is oil in the exhaust manifold, this may indicate a serious problem with the oil rings. In this case, you can try decoking with dimexide. But it is better to use special auto chemicals designed for these purposes.

A leak from under the valve cover may be due to a worn gasket. Sometimes simply replacing the gasket does not solve the problem. Since the cover itself may have significant curvature. Therefore, in some cases it will have to be replaced.

A white emulsion in the engine or on the oil filler cap may indicate condensation. This is a common occurrence when temperatures change from minus to plus, mainly in autumn or spring.

But if the emulsion is also observed on the dipstick, then this is already a sign of more serious problems. Most often we can talk about a broken cylinder block gasket. And in rare cases, a cracked cylinder head may be to blame.

Also, with this problem, you can find oil in the expansion tank. Sometimes, simply replacing the gasket is not enough. It may be necessary to grind the head itself, and this is completely different money for repairs.

All this is general information, which may manifest itself differently on each specific vehicle, since everyone’s operating modes are different. The same applies to places of leaks or oil leaks. Therefore, it is impossible to identify the cause from a distance.

Flushing the VAZ 2107 engine and changing the oil

As mentioned above, completely draining the lubricant from a VAZ 2107 engine is a long process. The problem is that even after 20 minutes of draining, there is still waste left in the engine. This point is especially relevant if the oil is very old and therefore very viscous.

Such oil simply does not pour out of the small channels and openings of the engine. To remove this viscous mass, the car owner will have to rinse the VAZ 2107 engine with diesel fuel.

Flushing sequence

An important point: after the liquid oil has completely drained from the VAZ 2107 engine, you must remove the old oil filter from the car and replace it with a new one. You can save on the quality of this filter, since it will be used only once, during washing.

  1. The drain hole, previously opened, is closed again with a plug. Diesel fuel is poured into the engine through the oil neck. Volume - 4.5 liters. Then a plug is installed on the neck, and the engine is cranked with a starter for 15 seconds. It is impossible to start the engine completely. To increase the efficiency of washing, the rear right wheel of the car can be raised by 15–20 cm using a jack.
  2. The drain plug on the crankcase cover is unscrewed again with a 12 mm socket wrench, and the diesel fuel along with the dirt is drained.
  3. After the diesel fuel is completely drained (which may take 10–15 minutes), the plug on the crankcase is screwed on, and 5 liters of fresh oil are poured into the engine through the oil neck, after which the plug on the neck is screwed on.

Consequences of untimely replacement

What can result from an untimely oil change in the VAZ 2107 gearbox:

  1. The box will be louder. Extraneous noise will appear, uncharacteristic of the gearbox. This may happen when the engine is cold, but as the engine warms up the sounds will disappear. Or the transmission may be noisy regardless of the temperature of the power unit.
  2. When changing gears, a crunching sound or other extraneous sounds may occur. Failure to change the oil in a timely manner will result in it losing its properties and being unable to properly lubricate the internal parts of the gearbox. Replacing the substance often solves the problem of crunching.
  3. Faulty gearbox bearings. If the lubrication is poor, bearing mechanisms will operate under high load conditions. This will cause the parts to wear out faster and soon fail. Wear products from bearings and other elements can clog the oil channels, which will affect the increase in pressure in the lines of the transmission system. As a result, the lubricant will begin to squeeze out the oil seals and seals. This problem can lead to a transmission fluid leak.
  4. The appearance of vibrations during operation of the gearbox. Often the vibrations disappear as the engine warms up, but it is possible that they remain and do not disappear. It is not a fact that the problem is related specifically to the quality of the motor fluid. Perhaps this is a consequence of the use of used oil, which has lost its properties, which led to wear and failure of some structural elements of the unit.
  5. One of the most serious consequences is gearbox failure. If the car is constantly used with used oil, this can lead to breakdown of the unit. The gearbox will need to be repaired.

Transmission oil

In VAZ classic models, lubricant is poured into the gearbox and gearbox, and starting from the VAZ-2108 model and higher - only in the gearbox (they do not have a gearbox). Moreover, these units use a special oil - transmission oil. This lubricant does not require replacement as often as power plant lubricant, and the general requirements for it are much lower.

When choosing VAZ-2107 transmission oil for the winter, you don’t really need to take into account the nuances. Transmission elements use oils with SAE classification index 75W-85, 80W-90, etc. It is poured into both the gearbox and gearbox.

The same oil is used in more modern VAZ models. To more accurately select transmission oil for a particular car, it is better to find out in the operating instructions what kind of lubricant is needed.
