The UDC is installed on the receiving pipe (Fig. 1.1-06). Its sensitive element is located in the exhaust gas flow. The UDC generates a voltage varying in the range of 50...900 mV. This output voltage depends on the presence or absence of oxygen in the exhaust gases and on the temperature of the UDC sensing element. When the UDC is in a cold state, there is no output signal from the sensor, since in this state its internal electrical resistance is very high - several megohms. As the sensor warms up, the resistance drops and the ability to generate an output signal becomes possible. To operate effectively, the UDC must have a temperature of at least 300°C. If the sensor temperature is above 300°C, then at the moment of passing through the stoichiometry point, the sensor output signal switches between low level (50...200 mV) and high level (700...900 mV). The controller calculates the injection pulse duration based on parameters such as air mass flow, crankshaft speed, coolant temperature, etc. To adjust the calculations of the duration of the injection pulse, information about the presence of oxygen in the exhaust gases, which is provided by the oxygen sensor, is used.
Insufficient oil pressure.
1. Using oil that is not suitable for the engine. Use only oils and specifications recommended by the manufacturer. 2. Oil dilution/foaming as a result of fuel/antifreeze entering the engine crankcase. It is necessary to identify leaks and eliminate them. After this, be sure to replace the oil with a new one, with flushing. 3. Worn oil pump. The oil pump resource is quite long. Its failure is rare. If damaged, replace with a new one. 4. Transmission
The manual transmission has been modernized more than once. All this fully applies to the VAZ-2182 robotic gearbox, because it was created on the basis of a mechanical one.
In the case of gearbox 2181, the clutch mechanism rarely lasts more than 100,000 km, especially if the car is used in a big city and often sits idle in traffic jams. In robotic gearboxes, the clutch lives even less.
The only truly reliable transmission in the line is a 4-speed automatic from the Japanese company Jatco.
How to reset an error on Grant
In the Lada Granta, the check error “pops up” relatively often. This is caused by the presence of a large number of auxiliary equipment and electronic modules in the engine compartment.
Partial error reset on a car can be done mechanically:
- warm up the engine to normal temperature;
- disconnect the battery from the on-board network for 15-20 minutes;
- reconnect the battery;
- turn the key in the ignition lock cylinder to position No. 2 and leave it alone for 1-2 minutes;
- return the key to position “0”.
If everything is done correctly, the errors will be cleared. The method is not suitable for complex failures - some errors cannot be canceled this way.
To completely remove codes from the on-board computer’s memory, it is performed using special diagnostic equipment. Devices must be purchased separately in case of constant need. Purchasing a scanner to service one car is not economically feasible.
Car history
Today, the domestic model Lada Granta is a sales leader. Every year it becomes more and more popular, in demand and interesting to a wide audience, because the car was created using completely new technology, using original design solutions. Engineers have finally begun to move away from the outdated, established stereotypes of automotive design. The result of this search was Granta.
So, at the beginning of the 2000s, the AvtoVAZ plant reminded itself of itself with a good Lada Kalina project. Of course, this car still needed serious improvements and adjustments. But nevertheless, already from this car, new trends in the work of the enterprise emerged, which the press was quick to report and both critics and ordinary car enthusiasts noted. Now the plant management decided to continue the work line that had been started; the next project was to be even more daring, non-standard, combining such qualities as aesthetics, dynamics, comfort and low price.
Initially, the name of the new model was given a lot of words, Low Cost, which translated from English means “low price”. But later it was decided to replace this name with something more sonorous and bright. So, having selected one, Grant, from hundreds of thousands of items, AvtoVAZ began to establish serial production. In 2009, our compatriots saw the first copies of the Lada Grant.
Of course, she was strikingly different from Kalina, and even more so from previous projects. There was no longer that laconic modesty inherent in domestic developments; this car attracted attention with its alluring, elegant forms, an abundance of extraordinary design solutions, and an excellent technical component. It was no longer a shame to show such a car to a global audience, which is what they did.
Granta Sport has repeatedly performed at major international competitions, taking prestigious places. This is how AvtoVAZ’s new idea debuted. But, in addition to the undeniable advantages, there are also flaws in Grant. Here and there there are annoying breakdowns, reminding us that we still have a domestic car in front of us, which is not fully thought out and is still far from ideal.
Other problems
Carrying out vehicle diagnostics makes it possible to decipher fault codes in the control relays of various components, road terrain sensors, fuel mixture saturation and some other indicators. The designations are numbered as follows after “P”:
- 0500, 0501, 0506, 0511 – problems with the speed and idle speed sensor;
- 0560, 0562, 0563 – differences in on-board network voltage;
- 0615, 0616, 0617 – problems with the additional starter relay;
- 0627, 0628, 0629 – signal about a malfunction of the fuel pump relay;
- 0645, 0646, 0647 – displays problems with the compressor clutch;
- 0685, 0686, 0687 – short circuit to the main relay circuit;
- 0691, 0692 – fan element malfunction;
- 1123, 1124, 1127, 1128 – substandard mixture in idle mode;
- 1301, 1302, 1303, 1304 – critical misfire in the cylinders;
- 1410, 1425, 1426 – problems in the absorber purge valve circuit;
- 1513, 1514 – open circuit in the idle speed regulator circuit;
- 1602, 1606, 1616, 1617 – violation of the rough road sensor readings;
- 2301, 2303, 2305, 2307 – short circuit to the cylinder ignition coils.
Motor repair
A major overhaul of a VAZ 2110 engine means restoring the engine and its components to factory standards. This operation is carried out when the motor has passed its service life and there is exhaustion in the main components.
Due to the fact that the engines have been in use for a long time, some engines are 10-15 years old, a major overhaul is inevitable. So, the combustion chambers have already worn out, and the pistons have burned out from service life and mileage. In addition, engine oil for the VAZ 2110 no longer helps to maintain performance to such an extent.
So, it is worth repairing the power unit at a car service center, especially with regard to the 16-valve engine. The VAZ 2110 8-valve engine is used by most motorists in garage conditions, since it has a simple design that is similar to the Classic and Samara power units.
