Opel cars are very popular all over the world. These high-quality cars are perfect for Russian roads. Modern models of this automaker have everything you need. They are equipped with all the necessary electronic modules and components, which greatly simplify driving and the life of car owners.
However, even the most reliable vehicles cannot operate without failures. A large number of complex equipment causes breakdowns. Some of them are quite serious, while others can be easily corrected with your own efforts.
To understand what happened to the car, it is necessary to carry out diagnostics. As a rule, most machines have the ability to receive a report of possible faults. They are displayed on the dashboard in the form of digital and alphabetic symbols. If you know what the Opel Astra H error codes mean, you can avoid expensive repairs. Therefore, it is worth considering the most common problems and their designations. It will be useful to know what the numbers on the vehicle dashboard indicate.
Error code 59761 on Opel Astra H
As a rule, when such a code appears, the car owner notices that the vehicle stops warming up by more than 80 degrees. Some people in this situation decide to insulate the car on their own. For example, when error code 059761 appears on an Opel Astra H, some people use specialized car blankets or insulation for saunas. Often this helps correct the situation. Typically, such events lead to the car starting to warm up to 97 degrees when driving along the highway.
However, it is not always possible to get rid of error code 059761 on the Opel Astra H so easily. It may also mean that the malfunction is due to incorrect operation of the coolant (coolant) sensor. If you replace it, the car will start to warm up as expected. Therefore, if error code 59761 reappears on the Opel Astra H, it is worth carrying out a full diagnosis of the car. It's better not to delay this.
Error 000970
This code appears quite often when starting auto self-diagnosis equipment. It should be said right away that it does not mean serious damage. So no need to worry. Error code 000970 on the Opel Astra H indicates that several elements have short-circuited in the fuse box. This usually happens in conditions of high humidity, such as when it rains. Also, rather aggressive car washing can lead to a similar malfunction. Often, a high-pressure water jet is used to clean vehicles. As a result, the liquid penetrates into those parts of the vehicle where there should not be moisture, at least not in such quantities.
It is noteworthy that if the car has a high mileage, then along with these numbers, error code 001463 may appear on the Opel Astra H. 001462 also often appears. In this case, you need to check the solenoid valve. It is responsible for the proper functioning of the phase shifters, which, in turn, control the motor shafts. If additional error code 001463 appears on the Opel Astra H, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the contacts of the faulty unit. If such manipulations do not help in any way, then you will have to change the valve and gears.
If water comes into contact with metal conductive elements, this can trigger the oxidation process. You can correct the situation on your own.
How to get rid of the error
Of course, the easiest way is to go to a car service center and not have to worry. However, there will need to be a full diagnosis, which is not cheap. Therefore, when you see error code 000970 on the Opel Astra H, it is worth making a few simple manipulations that will help correct the situation. First of all, you need to purchase a lubricant, which will be needed when cleaning and processing electrical contacts. It is very important to get rid of traces of oxidation. You also need to ensure that electrical contacts are protected from subsequent harmful effects.
After such an error code appears on the Opel Astra H, it is important to carry out work in accordance with the recommendations. First of all, the car must be de-energized. To do this, you will need to disconnect the battery terminals. The next step is to find the fuse box and remove the protective cover from it. Next, the driver or technician removes the connector located in the front part of the module. In this case, it is necessary to carefully unscrew the three retaining screws in the block itself. However, it is worth remembering that they are not completely removed. Even if you make an effort, you won't be able to do it. You also need to find the bolt at the base and remove it.
After this, the part is completely removed and the contacts are cleaned. When all the necessary work has been completed, all that remains is to thoroughly apply lubricant to all electronic contacts. At the next stage, all that remains is to assemble the assembly in reverse order.
If similar error codes appear on the control panel on an Opel Astra H 1.6 or another model, it is additionally recommended to treat the engine ECU with protective compounds. The required connector is located above the filler cap of the power unit. The procedure in this case will be similar. It is necessary to treat with lubricant and install the element back.
It is worth noting that reading error codes on the Opel Astra H helps eliminate the need for expensive repairs. For example, code 000970 does not foretell anything terrible. This is not a critical error. But this does not mean that it can be left unattended for a long time. If the causes of such a malfunction are not eliminated, it can cause more complex damage. However, 000970 is not always accompanied by additional errors.
If, after all the manipulations of cleaning and lubricating the elements, this code still appears on the dashboard, then most likely the car’s wiring has been damaged. In this case, simple measures will not do. Therefore, it would be better to contact an experienced master.
It is also worth knowing the error codes for the Opel Astra H in Russian. Let's consider the main errors that occur most often based on the type of elements in which the breakdown occurred.
How to use the diagnostic connector?
Please note: since errors in a car have different statuses, the Check Engine light does not always light up when they appear (in our language, “Dzhekichan”). The driver may not even suspect that the vehicle is in partially serviceable condition. To diagnose, you need to connect to the control unit using a special scanner.
Diagnostics in general terms is carried out according to the following algorithm:
- A laptop or phone, on which proprietary software for data decryption (for example OP-COM) is pre-installed, is connected to the car’s control unit via the OBD2 connector. The Opel Astra H has a special block installed in the cabin. Usually it is located under the decorative trim near the handbrake. To connect and read errors, use a proprietary cable with a compatible interface (if you do not have a wireless device).
- Next you need to launch the software.
- In the program, we press a special button that starts checking the car. Sometimes the software will require you to select an engine, as well as a body type (station wagon, sedan or hatchback).
- The program starts checking. Once it is completed, all errors detected during the scan are shown on the screen. Based on the data received, the further sequence of actions to eliminate the breakdown is determined. Based on the selected program used for reading, the interface can also demonstrate the vehicle's performance.

Problems with sensors
One of the most common malfunctions of this car has code 011014. This error means that there has been a malfunction of the sensor, which is responsible for the air temperature in the car’s power unit. In this case, you can wait a few days. Often Opel Astra N error codes disappear on their own. If this does not happen, then it is best to replace the sensor rather than try to repair it yourself.
Many also encounter the digital code 013604. At the same time, the car owner may notice an increase in fuel consumption. This happens due to a break in one of the oxygen sensors. Therefore, you need to replace the faulty element. However, it is also important to check the sensor wiring and connector. If you don’t want to solve the problem this way, then you should change the ECU firmware. If you set requirements no higher than Euro-2, then just one sensor will be enough.
If the car is manufactured in 2008, then there is a chance that sooner or later you will see the combination 006800 on the dashboard. It indicates that the throttle assembly is not working properly. If a similar error code occurs on the Opel Astra-H 1.6 Z16XER or in a car with a smaller engine capacity, you should pay attention to additional signs of component failure. First of all, vehicle owners note uneven idle speed. Some also pay attention to the increased consumption of the fuel mixture. In this case, most likely, the problems are due to the fact that the plastic cover through which the so-called air leak occurs is damaged. It needs to be replaced with a new one and the machine needs to be re-diagnosed.
Most often, car owners are faced with problems related to the performance of certain sensors. However, there are also situations when a digital code notifies about malfunctions in the power unit.
Carrying out car diagnostics yourself
To carry out diagnostics, you need to perform some steps, which differ for vehicles with manual and automatic transmission.
For manual transmission
For a manual transmission, the following sequence of actions should be performed:
Photo gallery
For automatic transmission
To diagnose an Opel Astra N with automatic transmission, the steps are slightly different:
When we depress the pedals, you need to press the brake with medium effort, and press the gas pedal all the way until you hear a click, this is necessary for the limit switches to work (the author of the video is VIDEO ZAG).
If there are several faults, the codes will appear one after another. At the end of the list a code of 6 zeros will be displayed. If zeros appear immediately, this indicates that there is no problem. The fault code is in the first four digits, the last two are encrypted with the meaning of the fault. If the number of digits is 5, then to decrypt you need to add a zero in front.
Engine errors
If the “Check Engine” icon lights up on the dashboard, you need to pay close attention to this warning. As a rule, it is accompanied by the Opel Astra-H error code 030101, 030201 or 030401. In this case, it most likely means that misfires have begun to occur. If we talk about additional “symptoms,” then car owners often note the appearance of jerks while the car is moving. The engine "triples". Additionally, there is an increased consumption of the fuel mixture. If this happens, then it is necessary to evaluate the condition of the ignition module. Often this particular unit fails. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to repair it, so you will have to make a complete replacement.
If the car has a high mileage, then error code 212052 may appear on the Opel Astra H. Such a digital notification indicates that dampness has occurred inside the electronic pedal. Or some of its modules were dirty. In such a situation, it is worth paying attention to how often the check engine light comes on. If this only happened once, then there is nothing to worry about. Most likely, the dirt will soon fall off or dry out and the operation of this unit will be restored. If another substance gets on the connector and cannot simply evaporate, the error will appear again. In this case, you need to disassemble the electronic pedal and thoroughly clean the contacts.
Owners of new or relatively “young” cars may encounter error code 001161 on the Opel Astra H. As a rule, the malfunction appears immediately after the car owner tried to replace the timing belt on his own. It is worth checking how correctly the valve timing functions. The shafts may have been installed incorrectly. Also, such errors often appear if the phase regulator sensors work with errors. It is necessary to conduct a clearer diagnosis and identify the exact problem.
Among the Opel Astra-H error codes there are also those that inform the vehicle owner about problems related to the condition of the wiring. Most often, such problems are also not critical, but it is not recommended to ignore them.
Errors related to car wiring
Car owners who have extensive experience driving Opel Astra cars are well aware that this vehicle often suffers from oxidation of contacts located in the safety and control units. However, this is far from the only problem.
For example, if a driver notices the appearance of error code 170000 on an Opel Astra H, then most likely it is also about a vehicle. As a rule, there is a problem with gearbox shifting. The checkpoint begins to react poorly to manipulation. If we talk about the reasons for this, then such consequences are caused by rotted wires that are connected to the gearbox itself. There are other faults, but they can only be identified through more accurate diagnostic measures.
Also, the car owner can pay attention to the appearance of error code 062104 or 062103 on the Opel Astra H. In the second case, we are talking about rotting of the wires going to the generator. The diode bridge could also burn out. Often such a malfunction is accompanied by the activation of an icon on the dashboard informing that the battery is low. To restore the system, you will have to replace the bridge or damaged section of wiring. It is also recommended to clean the contacts if they are oxidized.
If there is an error code on the Opel Astra H 62104, then in this case the problem is definitely related to damage to the diode bridge. It needs to be replaced.
Other faults
If you look at the list of Opel Astra H error codes, you can find the basic definition of the malfunction. In most cases, this allows you to independently adjust or replace the desired unit. Among the less common errors is code 017011. In this case, it is worth paying attention to the composition of the mixture, which is most likely too lean. Among the additional signs of malfunction, it is worth highlighting increased fuel consumption. As a rule, it starts to be about 2.5 liters per hour. The main reason for this malfunction is damage to the brake element vacuum booster membrane. Because of this, air is not sucked into the motor correctly. Sometimes, when idling, the car owner even hears the air starting to hiss in the body. The only way to get rid of the breakdown is to completely replace the vacuum seal.
Similar problems are observed when the numbers 017012 appear as an Opel Astra H error code. In Russian, this malfunction sounds like “too lean mixture.” In this case, the problem may be the same as described above or be associated with a malfunction of the oxygen sensor. There are other malfunctions that do not bother car owners so often.
For example, error code 11517 “Opel Astra H” indicates a failure of the sensor responsible for the operating temperature of the engine. It is located in the thermostat. In fact, the problem is similar to code 059761, since we are talking about problems with the coolant. However, in this case, most often the problem lies in the so-called chip, a small part of the thermostat. Similar problems are indicated by error code 218217 on the Opel Astra H. In this case we are also talking about a temperature sensor. But this designation is found much less frequently among vehicle owners.
In addition, code P0195 may occur. It stands for problems associated with too hot lubricant poured into the car’s power unit. Also in this situation, it is worth checking the proper operation of the corresponding controllers.
If there is a sharp increase or decrease in the level of fuel fluid in the gas tank, then P0460 will appear on the control panel. In this case, you will have to check and, most likely, replace the fuel sensor.
It is also worth paying attention to the last digits of the code. Sometimes they say that the error is due to improper operation of the ABS system. For example, if the number 35 appears on the panel, car owners should check the pumping equipment, or rather, its electrical part. Often it is in this node that a short circuit occurs or some of its elements are damaged. When this error code appears, the system notifies the car owner that it cannot receive a response from the pumping equipment. In this situation, it will have to be repaired or completely replaced.
Code 37 may also appear. If the driver sees it, then it is most likely that the pedal responsible for the brake is malfunctioning. As a rule, the problem is solved by restoring the broken wiring.
When code 45 appears, it is worth checking the functionality of the electrical circuit that is connected to the rear wheel, or rather, its sensor located on the left side of the vehicle. The controller you need is probably missing or damaged. In this situation, you need to replace or install it.
If the code contains 48, then you should pay attention to the microprocessor indicators. Most likely, the voltage in the on-board system has increased too much. In this situation, it is recommended to carry out diagnostics and make sure that the battery and the generator are working properly. The battery must be carefully inspected. Perhaps its integrity has been compromised. You also need to make sure that there is electrolyte inside the battery. Additionally, it is worth purchasing a multimeter. Using this device, which is desirable for every car owner, you can check the power supply and voltage of the vehicle's electrical network.

The “IZO))) LENTA channel spoke in detail about the procedure for diagnosing and reading combinations of faults in the memory of the Opel Astra N on-board computer.
How to reset the error
Why does it happen that the driver has made every effort to correct the problem, but the error still continues to appear? No, these are not problems in the dashboard. The fact is that as soon as the control unit receives a signal about a particular breakdown, it records it in memory. Therefore, numeric and alphabetic characters may continue to appear for some time. This will stop as soon as the microprocessor overwrites the updated information and stores it in its memory module.
But in this case, the car owner has to wait until this happens. Of course, when it's important to understand whether a problem has been fixed, no one wants to be left in the dark. In this case, the easiest way is to use the ODB II tester (any model will do). In addition, you should try to remove the error indicator yourself by using InSP service. To do this, you only need to perform a few simple manipulations.
First of all, you need to turn on the ignition. After this, you need to hold down the button that is responsible for resetting the daily mileage of the car. After a few seconds, the display should show an indicator and a corresponding message containing InSP. Continuing to hold down the key, you need to press the brake and start the engine. The button is not released. With the key and pedal held down, the car owner must wait about 15 seconds. The display will show “InSP 35000” or “InSP 50000” if the vehicle is diesel. The light will blink for a while and go out. After this, re-recorded errors should not appear unless the driver failed to correct them.
Resetting service intervals
On the mileage display, depending on its value (usually around 8000-10000 km), the inscription InSP appears.
IsP message on panel
This is an indication of the time until service maintenance. How to reset it? Please note that resetting the maintenance interval must be performed correctly to avoid errors in the operation of the vehicle.
- Turn off the ignition.
- After the daily mileage is displayed on the display, press the “reset” button.
- While holding reset, turn on the ignition. Note: The reset button must be held for at least 10 seconds. The screen will first display a flashing InSP indication, then the maximum mileage.
- When the inscriptions stop flashing, it indicates that the maintenance interval has been reset to its initial state.
How to perform self-diagnosis
Modern cars are able to inform the car owner about possible breakdowns. To make such a diagnosis, you should first of all always pay attention to the light icons that light up on the dashboard.
You can also use a special diagnostic scanner. It should be connected to a laptop or smartphone and read all the necessary error codes in the operation of vehicle systems. Moreover, such scanners not only provide the necessary digital designation, but also decipher it.
However, not everyone has such a device. Fortunately, you can do without it. You just need to display the necessary information on the LCD display of the vehicle control panel. If we are talking about a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission or a gearbox, which is popularly called a robot, then you only need to complete a couple of steps. While driving a car, the car owner must lightly press the brake and gas pedals at the same time. Don't try too hard, just a little touch is enough. In this position you only need to wait a few seconds. After this, continuing to press both pedals, you need to start the engine and wait a few seconds. A six-digit code should appear on the monitor. It will contain information about the error, if any.
If we are talking about an automatic transmission, then the manipulations will be somewhat different. To activate the code messages, you must turn on the ignition and press only the brake pedal. The force applied is also average. After this, the gearshift knob is moved to position “D” and the car owner turns off the ignition and also releases the pedal. At the next stage, it is enough to simultaneously press the gas and brake with both feet and turn on the engine. After a couple of seconds, a digital code will appear on the dashboard.

Features of error decoding
It’s not enough just to find a translation of the most common notations. You need to be able to break the error code into several parts. For example, the first four characters (letters or numbers) indicate the fault itself. The other two numbers indicate its meaning. In some situations, a 5-character code may appear. In this case, when searching for the required decryption, it is enough to put “0” in front of them.
The letters usually do not appear on the dashboard. However, when searching for errors in tables, they are almost always used. Using these symbols, it is much easier to determine which node failed. Therefore, it will be useful to know the meanings of these letters in a little more detail:
- B - usually placed before a code that indicates problems with electrical components. For example, this symbol can be seen in errors in power windows, switches, door lock controls, airbags and many other malfunctions of this type.
- If the digital code is preceded by the letter “C,” then you need to look for the problem in the chassis of the vehicle. The numbers will tell you about a more specific direction.
- P - indicated in gearbox errors or blocks responsible for the operation of the machine’s power unit.
- U - usually placed before a code that indicates problems with electronic control units. For example, a similar symbol may indicate that the parking sensors or airbag ECU is faulty.
For example, a car owner sees error code 161450 on an Opel Astra H, preceded by ECN. Despite these letters in the decoding tables, only one can correspond to such a meaning. Since the main code is 1614, you need to find P1614 and read the description of the possible malfunction. This error means that there is a malfunction in the immobilizer or key chip.
The last digits (if we take the value from the example, it will be 50) use symbols that determine the class of the problem. If the check engine light comes on, you need to pay attention to the numbers that will appear at the end. These symbols have the following meanings:
- If there is a “0” at the end, then in this case we are talking about a common code for the ODB II diagnostic node.
- The numbers “1” and “2” indicate that the probable error is related to the operation of the systems responsible for the fuel supply.
- When there is a “3” at the end, you need to pay attention to the ignition circuits.
- The number "4" symbolizes auxiliary nodes. Your catalytic converter assembly may be malfunctioning, or it may be time to check your evaporative emission control system. This symbol may also indicate other problems, which the preceding numbers will tell you in more detail.
- “5” means that the sensor that controls the car’s idle operation could have failed.
- If the number “6” appears at the end of the code, then most likely there is a failure in the vehicle’s electronics.
- The symbols "7" and "8" may also be present. As a rule, they indicate that you need to check the performance of the transmission.
By and large, the last digits mean what serial number is assigned to the error. For example, the same P1614 code can be divided into several parts. The first letter “P” indicates that you need to look for a fault in the transmission ECU or the power unit itself. Next comes the number “1”. This is a standard error code that is set at the factory during the production process of the car. After this comes "6". This symbol means that the problem may lie in the electronic or electrical circuit. At the very end there is “14”. These two digits indicate the common fault number. Thus, knowing the more precise meaning of all symbols, you can find comprehensive information about a specific breakdown.
Many are also interested in whether the alphanumeric values may differ depending on the type of power unit. It is worth noting that it does not matter whether a diesel or gasoline engine is installed in the car. The body type doesn't matter either. In sedans and station wagons these figures will be the same. Therefore, the error codes for the Opel Astra H 1.9 CDTi will not differ in any way from the definitions of faults in cars with a gasoline engine of the XER series.
After identifying an error, it is worth assessing the severity of the problem. If the car owner has the necessary knowledge, then he will be able to correct the situation on his own. However, if errors reappear, it is worth considering a full diagnosis. It can be done at a service center. It is also worth always having on hand a small diagnostic device that transmits all the necessary information in real time to a smartphone or computer. Thanks to such simple and easy-to-use devices, you can not only perform independent diagnostics, but also monitor fuel consumption, system condition, and so on.
Diagnostics of Opel Astra H without a scanner
To read errors on your car, you don’t have to go to a service center or buy a scanner. There is an option to use one of the two methods below. Much depends on which gearbox is installed on the car - manual/robotic or automatic.
If a computer is not available or there is no special adapter for connection, you can perform the diagnostics yourself. To do this, just start the self-diagnosis mode.
For manual and robotic gearboxes
The sequence of actions if you have a car with a manual or robotic gearbox is as follows:
For automatic transmission
If your car is equipped with an automatic transmission, you can read the error code like this:
