It is located near the heating control and next to the radio. The anti-theft system is a gray or black box, the size of which is 50 by 100 millimeters.

The immobilizer is dismantled by unscrewing the bolts securing it, but first turn off the power from it. To do this, it will be enough to pull out the block.

Now you have to reconfigure the immobilizer. To do this, you will need to remove all data stored in the ECU. To destroy information stored in the APS, a chip resistor is removed from it. The unit itself is connected to a regular computer, which must have special software (pack loader) that allows you to install the original firmware. After reinstallation, the chip is put in place.

Sometimes a memory (EEPROM) is installed in the immobilizer, from which information is not deleted under any circumstances. What to do in this situation? You will need to edit the file contained in it. Here in code 2-7 the numbers are erased and “FF” is written instead.

An immobilizer is an extremely useful, correct and necessary device. However, there are often situations in which the device begins to cause a lot of inconvenience. Connection of wires in the steering column

By connecting the contacts located in the steering column, you can start the engine. Before this operation, you must study the vehicle's operating instructions so as not to mix up the contacts and damage the vehicle's structure.

It is also necessary to strictly follow safety precautions to avoid electric shock.

To start the engine by connecting the contacts, you need to perform a number of actions.

  1. Get into the car (read about how to open a car door). The described method only works for models that were released before the mid-90s. Most modern models are equipped with special locking mechanisms that eliminate this possibility. Using this method on a modern model, you will only achieve the alarm and starter blocking. After this, it will be very difficult to start the engine even with conventional methods. Therefore, when starting to connect contacts, use the instructions to make sure that the necessary contacts are available and that such a start is possible. If you connect the contacts incorrectly in the old model, the gear shift mechanism and steering column may be damaged.
  2. Remove the plastic steering column cover. Using hidden fastening pistons or bolts with the so-called Phillips cross-head slot, the cover is attached to the car body.   3. Locate the wiring harness connector. After removing the panel covers from the steering column, you will see bundles of electrical wiring contacts in front of you. Using the instructions, learn how to determine the desired beam. Typically, there are three main bundles of wiring: wiring routed to the buttons on the side of the steering column where the headlight button, cruise control and other indicators are located; wiring routed to the buttons on the opposite side of the steering column (buttons for heated seats and windshield wipers); wiring routed to the starter, battery or ignition mechanism at the top of the steering column.
  4. Locate the bundles that route to the starter, battery and ignition mechanism and move them aside. One of these bundles is responsible for the power source for the ignition key, the other will act as the ignition wires, and the third will act as the starter. Wires of other colors vary depending on the settings described in the vehicle's operating instructions. Sometimes the ignition wire can be painted brown, and the starter wire yellow. The battery cable is always colored red.
  5. Expose 2.5 centimeters of the insulating coating of the battery wires and twist them together. After twisting, be sure to wrap the wiring with electrical tape to prevent short circuits, which may be caused by metal parts of the car. Once these wires are connected, electrical current will be supplied to the ignition components. The engine starts in this way when the starter is turned on (read about why the car won’t start and the starter won’t turn).
  6. Connect the ignition control wire to the battery wire. When this happens, the characteristic backlight on the dashboard will light up and the remaining electronic components will be activated. If you are not going to make a trip, but only use the car’s multimedia systems, then the actions taken will be enough. If not, then you need to get a spark to appear on the starter wire.
  7. Using extreme caution, expose one centimeter of the starter wire. Current will be supplied to the wire, so it is necessary to fix the exposed wires. The end of the wire must be brought to the connected ends of the battery wires and a spark appears.
  8. Accelerate the engine at idle speed. This is necessary to avoid engine stalling. After this, you can remove the starter wire. Unscrew the battery wires from the ignition wires to turn off the engine.
  9. Unlock the steering column lock. Even though the engine is already running, the steering wheel is still locked. To get steering control, you need to pick out the keyhole and release the spring. The lock will be broken. If you previously carried out actions with a screwdriver, then the lock should already be broken. Some models will require the use of physical force. It is necessary to turn the steering wheel completely. You can use a hammer to fix the steering wheel and use it as a lever. The steering wheel will be available for use after the crack of the locking structure breaking.

Starter and its external circuits

In the diagram we see three “positive” contacts and one negative (8), which is always connected to the body. What needs to be closed:

  1. Before closing the starter, locate the S terminal. It is often made in the form of a petal;
  2. How to distinguish contacts B and M: the first will have a potential of “+12”;
  3. You need to close contact B with terminal S. This is done briefly and after turning on the “neutral”;
  4. Contacts M and B cannot be closed.

Terminal B here is covered with a rubber band, and petal S is in contact with the terminal in plastic. The plastic plug is removed before “shorting”.

Closing the starter contact with a screwdriver

Make sure that the metal of the screwdriver does not touch the relay body when closing. Otherwise, we will simply close the “+” contact to “ground” (dangerous). All work is carried out with the ignition on.

50 Amps

The pull-in relay on the “Ten” consumes 50 Amps. For budget Lada models the current is 30 A, for many foreign cars it is higher. This means that a current of 40-50 Amps will flow from terminal B to terminal S. Think about the dangers of this.

We are going to short-circuit the starter with a screwdriver, but at the connection points where the current will flow, it may “stick”. In this case, without unnecessary panic, remove the negative terminal from the battery.

To remove the minus terminal, you need a 10mm open-end wrench. Keep it with you.

How to start and operate LADA correctly in cold weather?

1.How to properly start cars with a manual transmission and AMT (robot)?

Let's start with the fact that before you start using the car, you need to read the instructions for its operation. There are answers to simple and even complex questions. If you have a car with a manual transmission, then you need to lighten the load on the starter and start the car with the clutch depressed. It will be much easier for the car to spin the engine without a gearbox. After the car starts, you can remove your foot from the clutch after 10-20 seconds. The transmission oil in the box is thicker and now the car will easily warm it up too. If you have a car with a robotic gearbox, then your engine will not start until the brake pedal is depressed. If you were unable to start the car the first time, then remember that you do not need to constantly “turn” the starter, because it may simply burn out. It is necessary to let it “rest” and keep the key turned for no more than 10 seconds. After this, you need to return it to its original position and pause for 20 seconds. After 3-4 attempts, it is best to pause for 10-15 minutes and try again.

2. What additional devices help make starting a car easier (preheaters, mobile interior heaters from 12V, thermal blankets)?

Liquid-type preheaters built into the cooling system cope well with low temperatures. They work by internal combustion and heat up the antifreeze. For the engine, this is the same as starting in warm weather, only the inlet air temperature is different. A 12-volt mobile interior heater will not help. It can cause even more harm because the electronics may burn out. The thermal blanket keeps the engine cool when you leave the car for an hour or two. If you leave your car outside overnight, a thermal blanket will not help. The car engine will cool down completely overnight.

3. How to properly light a battery (connect terminals to terminals or partially to the engine housing)?

There is no big difference in where you hook the negative terminal. The main thing is not to connect plus to plus and minus to minus. The only thing is that it is better to turn it off when “lighting up”. A sudden drop in voltage can negatively affect the donor vehicle. This is recommended by the manufacturers.

4.What is not recommended to do until the car interior warms up (do not play loud music, etc.)?

It is not recommended to play music loudly. Speaker membranes are more fragile in the cold and can simply break. In addition, touch screens may not respond as quickly as they would in a warm car. Windows can also simply freeze. In this case, if you forcefully try to lower the glass, then uneven distribution of the load can lead to the fact that one of the elements may break or burst. In the cold, everything is fragile and it is better to warm up the car.

5. What restrictions on car operation exist at subzero temperatures?

Of course, in winter, failure of some components and assemblies is more likely. At especially low temperatures, the same rubber parts are more fragile and they are ready to withstand less loads than in the warm season. For example, the LADA XRAY has power steering and in severe frost you should not actively turn the steering wheel immediately after starting the engine. You need to gradually apply the load. As for the suspension, if the car has just left the parking lot, it is necessary not to put a sudden load on the struts. The fact is that at that moment they had not yet developed, and the oil inside had not yet warmed up. So where you calmly passed speed bumps in the summer, you need to drive carefully during severe frosts. Otherwise, part of the suspension may quickly fail.

6. What parts of the car are at risk in severe frost?

Particular attention should be paid to such things as mud flaps and plastic bumpers. In severe frost, the rubber is not so elastic and can tear at the points where it is attached to the car. Close attention should be paid to the safety of plastic bumpers. Please note that in winter there are a lot of cars with holes. This is the result of parking in a snow pavement. If in summer the plastic is more flexible and can withstand a light impact on the curb, then in severe frost even a light touch can make a crack or even tear out a piece of the bumper.

The new model line is perfectly prepared for use in severe frosts. From personal experience, I can say that starting the LADA Vesta at a temperature of -32 took about 5 minutes from the moment the key was turned until the windows were completely heated to start driving safely. Only the steering wheel is cold, but you can drive with gloves. Heated windshield in new models is a necessary function for operation in Russia. There are also no questions regarding heated side mirrors, glass and heated front seats. They heat up quickly and keep a good temperature.   5. Connect the board to the adapter that provides communication with the computer and supply power to it.
  6. Using the program, erase data from non-volatile EEPROM memory.
  7. Save changes, disconnect from computer.
  8. Resolder the resistor to its original place.
  9. Install the ECM into the vehicle's electronic system.

Forced starting of the starter

This method involves shorting the starter contacts, and to implement it you will need the help of another person and a long screwdriver (a wrench will also work).

The idea is to use the metal part of your chosen tool to connect the power contacts of the starter in order to transfer voltage directly to the winding. The sequence of actions should be as follows:

  1. Ask your assistant to sit behind the wheel of the car so that he turns the key to the extreme right position (including the ignition).
  2. Remove the contact plate (chip) from the starter.
  3. Use the tip of the tool to short-circuit the contacts.

Before using this method, check the condition of the transmission.

  1. First, you need to carefully get your hands on the wires, which will require removing the protective cover from under the steering wheel.
  2. Once this operation is completed, you will see a set of multi-colored wires leading to the ignition switch. You need to separate the wires from the lock in any way that is most convenient for you.
  3. Having done this, determine whether each wire belongs to the vehicle’s on-board system and what each of them is responsible for.
  4. First of all, let's calculate the ground wire. Its most common color is green or black. Some cars have this yellow wire with a thin green stripe. To make sure that it is the grounding wire in front of you, connect it through the tester to the machine body. A digital indicator at value 0 means that this is the same wire. Insulate its end to prevent an accidental short circuit with the power wires: this can lead to failure of the on-board system.
  5. Now you need to calculate the power wire. To do this, study the colors - most likely it will be red or yellow, a lot depends on the voltage. It happens that there is only one such wire, sometimes there are several. Then you need to find everything. You will have to examine all the wires by connecting one multimeter probe to the ground wire or car body. You need to set the tester in advance to the voltage measurement position. Have you found all the wires from which the power comes? Also isolate them by grouping them first. Their accidental contact with the ground or machine body is dangerous.
  6. Now you need to find the wire that powers the starter. Be sure to lower the handbrake and, in turn, connect the wires of unclear purpose to the power wire, or to all of them at the same time, grouped together. One will definitely turn on the starter. Mark it with something, a marker or tape.
  7. Now connect the power wires to the wire that supplies voltage to the car. It is important that the connection is strong, otherwise the engine may stall at any moment.
  8. And now we do it like in the movies - we strike the wire that powers the starter, which will cause a short circuit and the car, if all the conditions described above are met correctly, will start. Once this happens, move the wire away.

What to do if there is no key

There are several more options. The first involves starting the starter from inside the car. To do this, you will need to remove the plastic panel that is located under the steering wheel of the car. The next step is to separate the wiring harness going to the ignition switch.

Find the wire that goes to ground (could be black, green, or yellow with a black stripe). It is possible to determine the required conductor using a tester. Connect one tip to the wire being tested, and the other to the car body. If the display shows zero, then that's what we need.

Strip the neutral wire, insulate it and move it to the side. Power to the starter on the VAZ-2114 is supplied through a red or yellow wire. To avoid confusion, check with a tester.

Next you need to determine the conductor that is responsible for the starter. To do this, connect the supply wire with the remaining ones in turn. From which the mechanism will work, we will continue to work.

Connect the remaining bundle to the positive wire, and then close it with the starter terminal. If you have determined everything correctly, the engine should start. Keep in mind that you cannot connect the wires for a long time, so as not to discharge the battery.

As with the first method, the gearbox must be in neutral.

Some information about the ignition switch device

Lada Priora cars use anti-theft locks that block the next start of the starter and connect the key to the standard anti-theft system. The device is located directly under the steering wheel in a special way (four screws with tear-off caps that prevent unscrewing) and is fixed to the steering column.

The engine is started using a key that is inserted into the lock cylinder.

The device is powered by a battery, and a special relay marked “K4” is responsible for ensuring proper protection of the electrical circuit. The starter locking is achieved by a locking rod that is retracted and prevents the key from being removed in all its positions except the zero stage (position “0”). With one key position, only electrical circuits are activated. In a different condition they are different. For example, at the first mark, some on-board equipment is activated (windshield wipers, power windows, dashboard indicators, etc.), and the next time you turn the key in the ignition switch, an additional power circuit is activated, and the engine starts.

Push launch

This is a classic way to start the engine on almost any car. It should be used when other methods are powerless. To do this you will need to do the following:

  1. Place the gear lever in neutral.
  2. The driver gets behind the wheel.
  3. Two assistants are pushing the car.
  4. Once the car has accelerated a little, engage first or second gear.
  5. Turn the key to engine start mode.

This method can be used while towing a car. But remember that when you start the engine, the car will accelerate significantly and may drive into the bumper of the towing car.

What is a standard immobilizer and why is it needed?

Currently, most cars are equipped with a system called an “immobilizer” to protect against theft. The word "immobilizer" translated from English means "immobilizer". The purpose of the immobilizer is to exclude the possibility of starting the engine without the participation of the owner of the “native” key, that is, the owner of the car.

The immobilizer works on the principle of radio frequency identification (RFID). Each car key, regardless of whether it has control buttons for central locking or a standard alarm system, has a miniature chip (transponder) built into it, which emits a low-power encoded signal. The immobilizer antenna, located, as a rule, on the ignition switch, reads this signal, and the system identifies whether it is “its” key or “someone else’s”. If the key is not recognized as “its own”, the engine control unit does not receive the correct code from the immobilizer and is blocked until the next time the ignition is turned on and the code of the “own” key is received.

If a car has this useful and very effective anti-theft system, it is impossible to start it with a regular “blank” (a copy of a key without a chip), or simply by shorting the wires. And if you try to break into or open the immobilizer elements, the system is automatically blocked and blocks the main systems of the car.

How to find out about the presence of an immobilizer in a car?

Many car owners, inserting the key into the ignition every day, do not even realize that their car is equipped with an immobilizer, and every time the ignition is turned on, the chip embedded in the key handle transmits its unique digital code via radio transmission. With the exception of the indicator on the instrument panel, the immobilizer does not externally indicate its presence. But this indicator is not available on all cars.

The immobilizer indicator on the dashboard should illuminate for a few seconds when the ignition is turned on and may look different on different vehicles, for example:

"Europeans". The immobilizer is present in all cars produced for the European market (including the Russian market) since 2002. The exception is German cars - they began to install an immobilizer in 1999, and in some models even in 1995.

"Japanese". As a rule, cars produced for the Japanese market do not have an immobilizer. Since 2008, you can find an immobilizer in some models (the most stolen according to statistics).

Russian cars. Domestic manufacturers began installing immobilizers around 2005, but, as a rule, they were not activated in showrooms and, accordingly, were not used due to incorrect operation (blocking for no obvious reason). Activation began later, around 2008, when keys with remote control buttons for the central locking appeared, and the developers fixed the problems. If you have a modern domestic car and the buttons on the key work, then the immobilizer is activated.

"Americans" may or may not have an immobilizer, regardless of the year of manufacture.

Singapore. Almost all cars produced for the Singapore market have had an immobilizer since about 2000.

Method "Chocolate"

We buy a chocolate bar, any kind, as long as it is wrapped in aluminum foil. We eat chocolate. We wrap the key handle in foil to shield the signal from the chip, if there is one. Then we try to start the car with our “tuned” key. If the car has an immobilizer, it will not receive a signal from the chip and, accordingly, the engine will not start. To be sure, it is better to try 3-4 times in a row (due to the characteristics of different systems).

Immobilizer bypasser

In Russia, the coldest country in the world, automatic starting of the car engine to warm up is in great demand among car owners. And in the summer it’s much more pleasant to get into a pre-cooled car. A conventional alarm system with auto start solves this problem, but a “regular guard” stands in the way - an immobilizer, which requires the presence of a “native” key with a chip in the ignition switch to start the engine. What to do? Today, there are several ways to bypass the standard immobilizer.

Option one - disable the immobilizer

Not the best solution. Firstly, not every car can easily “disable” the standard protection, except perhaps in cars produced for the Russian market. Secondly, if you have chosen a not very successful alarm system that is susceptible to all sorts of code grabbers, it is possible that one day someone else will drive away in your warm car.

Option two - standard immobilizer bypasser

It is implemented using a chip from a spare key (or the entire key if it is impossible to remove the chip). You can also make a copy of the key chip, or purchase an additional key from an authorized dealer.

The crawler itself is a small box with a chip (or a whole key) inside, which is hidden somewhere further in the car. The transponder is connected in a certain way to the standard immobilizer unit and to the car alarm module. At the moment of autostart, with the permission of the car alarm, the chip is read and identified. As a result, the immobilizer “thinks” that the owner is already driving and allows the engine to start.

Advantages of the standard crawler:

  • the task of bypassing the immobilizer is solved relatively quickly and inexpensively;
  • The operation of the standard immobilizer is practically not disrupted - the car is still protected.

The disadvantages are mainly related to the use of a whole key rather than a chip:

  • when concluding an agreement with an insurance company, you will need a complete set of keys, and in the event of theft, problems with insurance payments may arise (deliberately leaving the key in the car);
  • in the event of the loss of the only remaining key, if this trouble happens in the winter, the car will most likely have to be evacuated to a car service to remove the spare key (the exception is for cars with an automatic transmission and the function of starting from an additional key fob). In the summer, it is possible to extract the key in the “field conditions”; for this you will have to wait for a technician to arrive from a car service center and part with a significant amount of money;
  • Since a standard crawler transmits a signal from a hidden chip at a fairly high frequency, in cold or hot weather problems may arise with the stability of the autostart.

Conclusion: an excellent budget option for a standard immobilizer bypasser if you have 3 keys. An acceptable option if there are two keys, and it is possible to remove the chip from one. In all other situations, it may make sense to spend money on making a duplicate chip (from 3,000 rubles), or on a keyless immobilizer bypasser.

Why does the starter refuse to turn?

The most common cause of starter failure is a malfunction of the solenoid relay. This can be determined by the characteristic click that is heard from under the hood after you turn the ignition key. Common immobilizers of this type are based on the principle of RFID tags. These are chips that do not have their own power source. They generate a signal only after the immobilizer antenna gives a pulse, the power of which is enough to charge the capacitor built into the chip, and the chip has time to broadcast a given set of data. The immobilizer uses the same antenna to receive information. The small size of the immobilizer chips allows them to be installed directly in the key body, so the ring antenna is fixed around the ignition lock cylinder. When the ignition is turned on, the immobilizer unit polls the surrounding air, reading the code from the chip in the key. The received code is compared with the codes recorded in the controller’s memory and, if a match is found, the immobilizer sends a signal to the injection ECU allowing the engine to start.

In complex systems, a floating code is no longer used, but a floating code, similar to how it is implemented in alarms. Such chips are installed in radio keys: the operation of the standard alarm radio channel is tied to codes generated by the chip. A common problem with systems with a dynamic code is the possibility of it desynchronizing with the central immobilizer unit (if you repeatedly press the radio key buttons outside the reception area). After this, you will have to perform the immobilizer training procedure.

If necessary, the unit can be programmed in a mode in which the immobilizer is excluded from the circuit. So, the Priora can be started with a key without a chip, but the APS will receive information from the crawler.

One of the popular options for such devices is the BP-03 Starline model, which works with any security systems.

In addition to key crawlers, keyless ones are also used; they reproduce the signal from the chip, and the operating principle is the same. The main disadvantage of using a keyless crawler is that the standard alarm system remains on board, so this option is only suitable if a security system with automatic start has been installed.
