  1. Check all joints with adjacent panels.

  6. Drill out all the weld points securing the old roof sheet.
  7. Remove the sealant.
  8. Remove the roof sheet.
  9. Clean the roof installation area.
  10. Align all the flanges that the new roof will rest on.
  11. Try on a new roof.
  12. If the roof fits properly and all edges match, try on the windshield and rear glass. They should fit easily into openings and have even gaps from the edges of the opening around the perimeter.
  13. Install and weld the new roof.
  14. Install the windshield and rear windows.
  15. Assemble the salon.

Second phase. We install sound insulation.

First we glue the vibration-isolating layer. The vibration isolator is already supplied with an applied adhesive layer (you just need to remove the protective film). The roof is divided into three tin rectangles by stiffening ribs. Measure and cut three pieces of vibration to cover the maximum area of ​​the roof. Then, having removed the film, carefully glue the layer, smoothing it from the middle to the edges so that there are no air bubbles left. You can use a wallpaper roller for these purposes.

After the vibration isolator comes the turn of the sound-absorbing layer. The material also has an adhesive layer on one side, which simplifies the work. We try to cover the entire roof area with a sound insulator, including the stiffeners. We do not allow the formation of air bubbles. Sound insulation installed. The procedure for replacing a car roof by pillars

  • When replacing a roof along the pillars, you need to determine where the joint will be. According to the technology, for better strength, the new roof with the body pillars needs to be butt welded with an offset (ladder). To do this, a spot weld is drilled into the sides of the racks, and the front and inner parts of the racks are cut off. It is necessary that the cuts are at different heights (at least 5–10 cm). If there is reinforcement inside the racks, then it must be cut off and welded also on a different plane than the front and inner parts. To do this, you may need to cut out a segment of the outer part of the rack (“window” measuring 5 cm), which is then welded back.
  • The butt welding method with placing an additional plate inside the rack for reinforcement is also used. With this method it is easier to correctly align the roof in place.
  • It is necessary to correctly mark the new roof and the old one before cutting. To do this, you need to find some marks on the body from which you could measure. It is better to leave a small margin and, trying it on locally, cut the racks to the desired size.

Remember to apply welding primer to the inserts to protect against corrosion.

  • It is better to cut the front pillars closer to the middle, since in this place there are usually no or fewer amplifiers. In addition, there may be a foam filler at the base (see the article on the structure of the supporting body), and also, it is more convenient to work with the middle part. But this is not important, they do it differently. If the cut of the entire rack was made at the same level, then when welding, you need to make inserts (5–10 cm) inside the front and rear racks from the remnants of the metal remaining during cutting. Depending on the configuration of the racks, the inserts can be made from several parts so that they fit normally inside the racks. These inserts will serve as reinforcement, guides when joining the roof, and will also better dissipate heat during welding. The inserts are inserted into the body pillars (or part of the pillars on a new roof) and welded through pre-drilled holes. After joining the roof, the joints are welded with a sealed seam. To avoid thermal distortion, the joints are first welded with spots or stitches at intervals or alternately on different sides, after which the intervals are also welded alternately.
  • If the front and inner parts of the racks were cut at different heights, then the insert is not needed when welding (butt weld with a “ladder” offset). For such a cut, as described above, pre-drilling of the factory spot welds on the flanges will be required. The distance between cuts should be at least 5–10 cm.
  • The B-pillars are cut off at the top, 10–15 cm from the roof. It is better to choose a place without technological holes. Inside the B-pillar there are reinforcements (there may be several layers of metal in some places), which all need to be welded when installing a new roof. For example, the place where the seat belt mount is located has additional reinforcements.
  • The rear pillars are usually cut off towards the top. If there is no reinforcement inside (or if there is some, if there is space left), it is necessary, when installing a new roof, to make a butt seam with an insert. The principle is the same as described above for welding the A-pillars.
  • Before final welding, you must first “grab” all flange connections with welding points. Next, you need to check all the door gaps and attach the windshield and rear glass. Preparatory operations for re-upholstering

Work on altering the ceiling is carried out with the battery disconnected from the power supply and the car doors completely open, and begins with dismantling the part in the following order:

  • Using a screwdriver and a shaped slot, we unscrew the screws from the mounting sockets for the trim of the front pillars, and by prying them off, remove them and put them aside;

  5. Apply a thin bead of glue to the center of the ceiling. The length of the strip should not exceed 10 cm.
  6. Apply the central part of the material to this place and smooth it thoroughly using a roller.
  7. Apply similar strips of glue every 10–15 cm.
  8. The fabric needs to be stretched and smoothed well. At this stage, you may need an assistant to do the job better.
  9. After all the fabric is glued, go over its surface with a roller again. You can additionally dry the surface with a hairdryer at a not too high temperature.
  10. Fold the edges and glue them from the inside. Trim off any excess fabric.
