Exterior
The first series of Aveo T-200 appeared in 1988. The same series of T-200 was slightly modified in 2004, and in 2006 the dimensions and shape of the car changed noticeably.
The new Aveo models differ significantly from the previous T-200 and T-250 series. This can be seen in numerous photos of all types of cars. First of all, the front part of the Aveo t300 impresses. The headlights a la Lancer are fascinating and work great. If you add fog lights to the base, the car will look through the six “eyes” of a predator. The rubber bottom of the bumper gently bends around curbs when parking and obediently snaps back into place. The front bumper is streamlined with a characteristic aerodynamic lip. The U-shaped hood ribs look beautiful, smoothly turning into pillars.
The rear of the car is overly narrowed. A gentler slope from the fenders to the trunk would have looked better. In addition, the swollen rear does not look very good on the elegant Aveo.
The trunk of the sedan has a very decent size (502 liters), and the hatchback - 290 liters, but if you fold the second row seats, its capacity increases to 653 liters.
The rear lighting looks a little worse than the front.
The rear door handles are hidden on the glass frame and judging by the appearance in the photo or at first glance, the car can be mistaken for a three-door.
In general, the characteristics of the case are beyond praise. This can be seen from numerous photographs.
What about the suspension and brakes?
Taking into account the handling shortcomings of its predecessor, the suspension on the T300 generation Chevrolet Aveo was tightened. Stability has improved, but comfort has predictably suffered. Therefore, the endurance of the chassis directly depends on the owner’s driving style and accuracy. Bad roads and reluctance to brake for potholes? Get ready for stabilizer struts, silent blocks, wheel bearings and shock absorbers to immediately become consumables with a replacement interval of 20–30 thousand km. The only good news is that Aveo has quite a lot of inexpensive and relatively high-quality non-original products. In addition, reinforced levers were installed on cars of recent years of production.
The car is sick and the brake calipers are rattling, which is caused by small guides that become loose over time. This does not affect the efficiency of the system, but it is quite annoying. Some dealers fixed the problem under warranty, but this did not always last long, so you can find various modifications on the car in the form of brackets and gaskets.
Interior
Plastic products are not at the highest level, but the parts that the driver comes into contact with are very comfortable. All buttons and handles are chrome plated or rubberized. The instrument panel is significantly different from other cars. The design is carefully designed and it is easy to read information from the devices under any conditions.
The Aveo's interior is quite spacious, but maximum comfort is provided for the first row. From the driver's seat, the impression of a “big” car is created due to the high ceiling and the windshield located far in front.
Passengers do not experience discomfort during long trips. You can reach everywhere, and seat adjustment is provided for people up to 190 cm tall. The cabin has the required number of recesses and niches for storing necessary small items.
With a stylish interior, the salon looks beautiful in photos and in reality, and all the characteristics have been thought out to make it practical.
The steering wheel is leather-trimmed and comfortable, but it is only adjustable in height. The steering has high maneuverability. Heating and air conditioning are also provided for passengers in the 2nd row.
From numerous photos you can see all the smallest details of the interior.
What about the interior and body?
The impressive external appearance and, in general, the transition to a more expensive positioning of the Chevrolet Aveo II did not save the car from all-round savings. In particular, all the plastic in the cabin, despite the extravagant design, is inexpensive and hard, subject to squeaks and crickets over time. Painted parts of the interior scratch very easily.
Another ailment of the Aveo is poorly closing doors. This is due to the fact that thin doors do not have enough of their own weight, as a result of which, with a sharp bang, an air bubble forms in the cabin, which can push the light door back. Loose fasteners, which need to be tightened regularly, also do not facilitate easy closing. The problem is treated by making the doors heavier by adding sound insulation, which the Aveo is practically devoid of. Some people manage to make air ducts in the rear parcel shelf, as a result of which air goes into the trunk when the doors are closed. Many people immediately make noise on the wheel arches, since the noise from the tires drowns out all other sounds. From time to time there are problems with heated seats.
But the body is quite strong, resisting corrosion noticeably better than its predecessor, but mainly due to high-quality painting. The emerging areas of rust are associated primarily with mechanical damage to the paintwork. Therefore, it is better to treat chips, abrasions, cracks and dents immediately. Massive traces of rust on the body are most likely a consequence of poor-quality body repairs and poor repainting of elements.
Engine
The engine power of the Chevrolet Aveo t300 provides greater opportunities for improving dynamics compared to the t-200 series. It has good balance - no drops in speed or sudden acceleration. Acceleration occurs smoothly, with a normal reserve of power. The speed of 100 km/h from a standstill is reached in 11.3 seconds. In urban conditions, when braking and accelerating, the car moves confidently.
At high speeds, fuel consumption is high and noise enters the cabin, but for this class the engine characteristics are as they should be. It would be nice to have an engine larger than 1.6, but the power is still sufficient to make the necessary acceleration when maneuvering.
According to the speedometer, the maximum speed of the car is 200 km/h. On a good road you can accelerate to speeds close to the maximum, but no one tries to reach 200 km/h in such cars. Engine capabilities are limited in favor of environmental friendliness to 189 km/h. A maximum speed of 200 km/h is achieved by a turbocharged unit with a power of 138 hp, but it is used only in America.
At the 60 Hours Behind the Wheel marathon in 2012, the Chevrolet Aveo showed a top speed that exceeded 200 km/h.
Dimensions
It is impossible not to note the compactness of the Aveo. Its overall dimensions are as follows:
- the length of the car is: sedan 4399 mm, hatchback 4039 mm;
- width and height for these models – 1735x1517 mm;
- the wheelbase also has the same indicators - 2525 mm;
- the wheel track is equal - for the front 1497 mm, for the rear 1495 mm;
- fuel tank volume – 46 l;
- ground clearance is 155 mm;
- for the sedan, the curb weight is from 1147 kg, the total weight is 1598 kg, for the hatchback it is from 1168 kg and 1613 kg, respectively.
The Engine magazine continues to study the Russian secondary market, selecting inexpensive and interesting options. Having scoured ad sites with the search criterion for the most recent options up to half a million rubles, we came across tempting offers for the Chevrolet Aveo (T300). The stylish “Korean” pleases with its attractive appearance, original and relatively spacious interior, German engine and good reputation among servicemen. It remains only to understand how often you will have to visit them.
The first Chevrolet Aveo proved to be a simple car, with a not very comfortable interior and mediocre driving characteristics, but at the same time a relatively modern, well-equipped and, most importantly, quite reliable car. All this made the car very popular.
Let us recall that the first generation Aveo competed with the Renault Logan in the mid-2000s, and in many respects it looked noticeably more attractive than the “French”, although it was a little more expensive. For a new sedan with a 1.4 engine in a good configuration with air conditioning, they then asked for 360,000 rubles.
The second generation appeared in 2011, and reached Russia in large numbers already in 2012, with the Kaliningrad assembly, which a year later moved to the capacity of the GAZ plant.
The car turned out to be incredibly bold in terms of design: aggressive style, open dual head optics and motorcycle features in the interior decoration immediately attracted a new, younger audience to it. Moreover, the model appeared in the next part of the blockbuster “Transformers”, which further fueled interest in it. True, the money invested in such a noticeable transformation was compensated by a greatly increased price. The price for top-end configurations went well beyond 700,000 rubles, which significantly reduced sales.
One way or another, the model has gathered her audience, and today she has reached the age when it is customary to switch to something more serious. The first samples of Aveo II are already in their seventh year with a mileage of 150 thousand km, and the most recent copies of 2015, sold before GM left Russia, were just reaching their last kilometers and months of warranty.
Reviews from Aveo owners
There is a lot of controversy about the Aveo budget car, which has good technical characteristics and looks like expensive models. Judging by the photos and capabilities, it goes beyond class B.
Owner reviews about interior quality
- You have to get used to the unusual “motorcycle” instrument panel and digital speedometer, but there are no problems with them.
- This is not visible in the photo, but a significant part of the elements are made of hard and cheap plastic. The plastic itself is creaky and scratches quickly appear on it.
Owner reviews about the car's performance
- Engine power 115 hp normal, but when it accelerates, it makes a squeal, which does not bring pleasure to those in the cabin. But the necessary traction is provided by good technical characteristics and a wide range of engine speeds.
- The five-speed manual transmission is noisy at 120 km/h and is not recommended for those who like to accelerate to high speeds. The car is maneuverable and accelerates quickly. Reviews say that this is not always the case. In some cases, the automatic transmission may jerk and brake when accelerating.
- When the turn signal is turned on for a long time, an audible warning is triggered. If the car changes direction and accelerates, the turn signal automatically turns off.
- The interior is poorly protected from external noise.
- The stove begins to make noise. To prevent noise, the fan motor is lubricated.
On our roads, the Aveo has too little ground clearance. Numerous reviews speak about this. The clearance can be increased by 20 mm by installing spacers under the thrust bearing at the front (very easy to do) and under the springs at the rear. Spacers for them should be machined. After this, the wheel alignment should be measured and, if necessary, adjustments made. There are conflicting debates and reviews about this method, but there are technical solutions for doing it yourself.
Car service reviews
- Aveo maintenance is not very expensive. Many reviews say that the new technical characteristics allow the car to operate for 5 years without any problems.
- The quality of service depends on how the car service works.

What about the engine and gearbox?
The car was supplied to the domestic market with two engines of the Ecotec family, which it received from the union concern Opel - 1.4 (101 hp) and 1.6 (115 hp). The first was equipped exclusively with a manual transmission, the second was also available with a 6-speed automatic. As sales have shown, the increased weight and price, as well as the desire of customers to get a larger number of options, have brought the modification with the 1.6 engine to the forefront. Actually, technically, both engines differ mostly only in volume: the 101-horsepower one is labeled F14D4, the 115-horsepower one is labeled F16D4.
Both engines are upgraded generation D3 (or ETEC II) engines. Moreover, the transformations affected to a greater extent the enhancement of reliability. Thus, the engines lost hydraulic compensators and the EGR ecosystem, which was responsible for the redistribution of exhaust gases. A reinforced timing system has appeared with more durable rollers and a belt with a replacement interval of 150 thousand km. A variable valve timing system and an electronic throttle valve have been added.
In this regard, oddly enough, Aveo II is more interesting than its “big brother” Cruze, which was still using the old F16D3 engine that it inherited from Lacetti.
Alas, the modernization did not solve the main problem of these engines, namely, oil leakage associated with the design features of the unit and specifically the valve cover. Very often, smudges are defined as a crankshaft oil seal leak, but most often this is not the case. The problem is solved by replacing the gasket, and sometimes by simply tightening the bolts.
The remaining “sores” cannot be called regular, since they occur every once in a while. It was possible to solve the problems associated with the heat exchanger, but the updated engine continues to encounter problems with the thermostat and the sensor built into it, with a pressure sensor or lambda probe. Symptoms of a malfunction of the latter are adjustment at idle speed. Otherwise, both engines can be called quite reliable, capable of withstanding 200–250 thousand kilometers, however, owners regularly complain about increased fuel consumption.
Chronic “diseases” of Chevrolet did not leave the Aveo II manual transmission, which even in its new state did not indulge in selectivity. Some of the problems are related to the rapid wear of synchronizers in first and second gears, and some are due to the updated clutch mechanism. The new model was equipped with a heavier flywheel, as well as a clutch basket and disc with a larger working surface, which significantly reduced vibrations at idle. However, due to environmental regulations, the engine lost its reserve of traction at low speeds, as a result of which domestic drivers, accelerating at the start, burned out the clutch.
Against this background, the 6T30E “automatic” turns out to be more reliable, but mainly in terms of hardware. Its main drawback is software. On the first copies of the Aveo II, just like on the Cruze model, by the way, there was a clear inconsistency between the engine and gearbox, as a result of which the car was frankly “stupid” and confused in switching. This could be partially cured by re-flashing the “brains”, but the symptoms did not completely disappear. In addition, despite the manufacturer’s statement about changing the oil in the gearbox every 150 thousand km, it is recommended to change it three times more often (!), otherwise kicks and jolts cannot be avoided.
Aesthetic appearance
The look of the new Chevrolet Aveo sedan is sporty, swift and a little predatory. The traditional grille with chrome strip is replaced by a double false grille with a high-gloss surround. Each of the four headlights is located in a separate well under the curve of the hood. Below, fog lights are installed in protruding round lampshades, like cannons.
The smooth roof line, typical of racing cars, ends with a trunk lid. Stamped lines along the body give the car speed. Large discs under the protruding arches of the wings give its appearance aggressiveness and stability.
The harmony of the sedan's image is spoiled by the rear lights. They are large, extending to the sides and are too bulky and bright for fast sports shapes.
The torpedo has changed more significantly than the body. The panel is designed similarly to the instrument layout on racing motorcycles. All information about speed, revolutions and fuel consumption is displayed on one screen and is easy to read. There is an additional glove compartment and a case for glasses in the left front door.
During the design of the Aveo, changes were made to the frame design and steering rod adjustment. As a result, lateral roll when driving is almost completely eliminated. The car at a planned speed of 150 km/h is stable, obedient, without surprises in any driving mode. On city streets and highways it behaves equally stable.
Chevrolet Aveo dimensions
they talk about its compactness, but the appearance of the car creates some illusion of a large car. In fact, the dimensions of the Chevrolet Aveo do not exceed 4 meters 40 centimeters for the sedan, and the size of the Aveo hatchback is even smaller.
This is what we will talk about today. By the way, you can read a full review of the characteristics of the Chevrolet Aveo with photos, if you are only interested in the dimensions, then this information is in this article.
If we compare the dimensions of the Chevrolet Aveo sedan
previous generation, it turns out that the new version has become larger. The length has increased from 4,310 mm to 4,399 mm. Width from 1,710 to 1,735 mm, height was 1,505 mm became 1,517. As for the old generation Aveo hatchback (T250), it was smaller than the new hatch.
The increase in the size of the current generation Chevrolet Aveo (T300) has had a positive effect on trunk volume and interior space. In the old version, the sedan had a trunk of 400 liters, the second generation has 502 liters of volume. The Aveo hatchback has increased its luggage compartment by 70 liters. Today the wheelbase is 2,525 mm; the previous version was only 2,480 mm. That is, the length of the cabin has increased by 4.5 centimeters.
Regarding the ground clearance of the Chevrolet Aveo
or ground clearance, the previous generation of the Aveo sedan had a clearance of 155 mm, and the hatchback 150 mm. Today's Chevrolet Aveo has a ground clearance of 155 mm according to official data, but in reality it is about 150 mm. In any case, this is always a controversial issue. The reason for this is the possibility of using different wheels and tires with different profile heights. After all, on the Aveo you can put wheels of either 15 or 16 inches or R 17 in size. Believe me, any manipulations with wheel sizes can change the ground clearance of any car, both increasing and decreasing ground clearance. Detailed dimensions of the sedan and hatchback are below.
Dimensions
The increased dimensions of the interior and trunk made the T300 model the most compact and comfortable of the entire range of small cars and family cars. At a budget price, the interior trim is for the most part not inferior to models at a higher level in the price range.
A motorcycle-style dashboard, and a sporty, streamlined and swift body shape, characteristic of all Chevrolet cars, made the Chevrolet Aveo sedan and T300 hatchback attractive, stylish, stable, and, as a result, in demand.
External dimensions of the car
The height of the T300 model is 1517 millimeters, which is almost 12 mm higher than previous models. At the same time, the ground clearance remains the same and ranges from 150 to 155 mm depending on the type of tires and wheels. As a result, the cabin height has increased and the car has become more comfortable.
The car has become wider by 25 mm. In models 2004 - 2011 it was 1710 mm in size, the new horizontal dimensions were 1735 mm, and with the mirrors deployed to the working position it was 2004 mm. Now the Chevrolet Aveo sedan has three passenger seats in the back, which can easily accommodate large adult passengers. Even behind the driver, a man 180 centimeters tall can sit freely.
The length increased by 89 mm and became 4399 mm, previous models were 4310 mm. Along with the length, the wheelbase changed - it became 2525 mm, which made the car more stable, and at the same time maneuverability remained at the same level as it was with the distance between the axles of the wheel pairs being 2480 mm. The trunk volume has also increased significantly.
The track has leveled out and the difference between the front and rear wheels is only 2 mm, which is 1497/1495 mm. In Chevrolet sedan cars produced before 2012, the difference was 20 mm, and the value at the center of the track was 1450/1430 mm. The size of disks has undergone major changes. On the Chevrolet T250 sedan they were from 13 to 15 inches. The Aveo sedan with 17-inch wheels looks more aggressive and dynamic.
Due to the installation of additional equipment, the curb weight increased by 50 kilograms, from the previous 997 kg. At the same time, the carrying capacity has become less, which may disappoint car owners who use it as a family car for long trips and as a work car. The T300 sedan model has a curb weight of 1147, and a permissible gross weight of 1598 kg, instead of 1500 kg of the T250 model range. The permissible weight of the trailer with brakes is one ton, without brakes it is half as much.
Interior dimensions
The Chevrolet Aveo sedan has a spacious five-seater interior. The distance from the back of the driver's seat in the farthest position to the rear seat is from 203 mm, with the height of the latter being 350 mm and width 465 mm. At the same time, the ceiling height from the passenger sofa is 929 mm. This allows a tall person to sit and position his legs and head freely.
The driver's position has been improved. If earlier, only people of average height and thin build could fit in a Chevrolet sedan, like in a Lada, then in the Aveo T300 model the car can be driven by a two-meter athlete. The size of the arc of the seat back - the pedal is adjusted by moving the seat in the range of 854 - 1073 mm. The steering column also changes its position in the range of 463 – 524 mm from the floor plane, while the wheel rotates 45 degrees, adapting to a person’s height.
The height of the driver's seat is 318 mm with a width of 490 mm and a height to the ceiling of 968 mm. Taking into account the backrest, which has an orthopedic deflection and support for the spine, the seat for the driver is made as comfortable as possible.
Trunk volume
The upper part of the T300 sedan car flows in a smooth line into the trunk lid, which is high and measures 562 mm to the bottom at the level of the wing. From the inclined back of the passenger seat to the rear wall 997 - 1627 mm. The result is a total trunk volume of 502 liters. To carry luggage, you can use the space that opens when you fold the seat.
For comparison, we can say that on previous sedan models from Chevrolet, the trunk volume was 375 - 400 cubic decimeters. At the same time, the volume of the gas tank has been increased from 45 to 46 liters.
Methods for increasing ground clearance
Since the road surface in the CIS countries generally leaves much to be desired, with potholes and potholes, many Aveo owners try to increase the ground clearance in order to avoid damage to protective elements of the body, such as bumpers and door sills. There are several ways to do this. The most common are the installation of spacers or springs with shock absorbers. Let's consider both options.
Spacers
Spacers are rubber-metal plates that are inserted between the body and the shock absorber to increase the vehicle's ride height. These modification parts can be purchased at automobile markets or car dealerships. Since the cost is much lower than shock absorbers and springs, most motorists prefer spacers.
Installation of spacers.
Let's consider the sequence of work for installing spacers:
- We dismantle the shock absorber strut along with all components.
- We remove the metal cover that secures the spring.
- We install the spacer so that it is between two metal plates.
- We install the mounting bolts, which will then secure the stand to the glass.
- We install the rack on a standard seat.
- Thus, you can increase the ground clearance on the Chevrolet Aveo by 15-20 mm.
Ground clearance on sedan, hatchback and station wagon
Typically, automakers set different ground clearances for different body types. In the case of the Chevrolet Aveo, the manufacturer set the same ground clearance for all three body types: hatchback, sedan and station wagon. So, the ground clearance is 150 mm according to factory standards.
When installing tuning spare parts, the ground clearance will change. So, if you install engine crankcase protection, the figure will decrease by almost 15 mm, and will average 130 mm. And if the car is modified by body tuning, then the ground clearance may decrease by 120 mm. Therefore, motorists often adjust the ride height using special means.
The table shows different clearances depending on generation:

Chevrolet car
The T250 budget car has ceased to represent serious competition for similar cars from other companies. Therefore, a model has been created that will be sold in 50 countries where Chevrolet has representative offices and showrooms. The new model was developed on the basis of Gamma2, taking into account the wishes of customers, especially complaints about the difficulty of getting comfortable in the cabin, especially while driving, for tall people.
William Durant founded an automobile company in 1911 to independently produce family cars, as a subsidiary of the General Motors Corporation he had built three years earlier. The company got its name from its second partner, who was both a racer and a leading car developer - Louis Chevrolet. Currently, models produced by manufacturers from South Korea are sold in Europe and Russia.
