Replacing daisies on a VAZ 2110 with your own hands

After replacing the struts, supports, steering and ball bearings, the knocking noise when driving on rough roads did not disappear. And then the other day I crawled under the car and noticed the damaged silent blocks.

I went online to see how this whole thing is changing and someone on Drive found a post about replacing silent blocks and rubber bands, or popularly known as “Daisies.” After studying the material, I finally decided to change them.

We bought silent blocks, front suspension extension joints (“Daisies”), as well as stabilizer bushings and anti-roll bar struts (popularly “Eggs”).

We drive the car into the pit and fix it. Safety comes first. First, I recommend filling all the bolts and nuts with WD-40 and letting them sit.

Next, we tear off the nuts of the lever, brace and “eggs”. If you can’t unscrew the nut of the extension, you can unscrew the crab and unscrew the extension later, in more convenient conditions. Next, we raise the car, remove the wheel, unscrew the 2 ball bolts, unscrew and remove the “egg”, unscrew the extension nut, the lever bolt and remove the lever.

So, now you need to get rid of the old silent block. There are several options: 1. Burn it with a torch. 2. Drill out. 3. Use a special puller. 4. Be smart.

Since I didn’t have a drill, a torch, or a puller, I chose the 4th point. I cut off one side of the silent block with a knife and knocked it out with a hammer.

Afterwards, it is necessary to clean the seat from rust and dirt, otherwise the new silent block will not be pressed into place.

Here. Now you need to press the new silent block into place. There are also several options here: 1. Use a special puller. 2. Using a vice. 3. Be smart.

Here, too, I chose the 3rd point. Using my ingenuity, I assembled this puller.

Next we look at how to use it in the photo:

Before assembly, lubricate the lever eye and silent block with liquid soap or detergent. You cannot use grease, lithol or oil, because... The rubber is not oil resistant and will quickly become rough and crack. To press the silent block in, use a screwdriver to push the collar into the hole. It may not work out the first time, you will have to suffer.

By tightening the bolt, we press the silent block in and somewhere halfway it will rest against the puller washer. And then the puller was modified:

Do-it-yourself replacement of front suspension silent blocks on a Lada Kalina

Replacing silent blocks on Kalina

Front suspension silent block near The silent blocks on the Lada Kalina car are located exactly the same as in VAZs of previous years. These elements are located generally on the wishbone or adjacent to it. You will have to change them either on the entire element at once, or by selecting the most damaged ones. Of course, if there is damage on one of them, the wishbone with rubber (stock – approx.) stabilizers must be removed and replaced with polyurethane analogues.

Removing the wishbone

  1. In order to begin work on replacing old silent blocks with new ones, you need to place the car on a viewing hole, a lift, or jack it up.
  2. Next, you need to remove the wheel and spray all the connections on the wishbone with WD-40.
  3. After the lubricant has penetrated into all hard-to-reach places, we begin to unscrew the bolts.
  4. First of all, we begin to dismantle the ball joint bolt, but before that we remove the cotter pin from the bolt.
  5. Then we unscrew the bolt securing the longitudinal tension hinge (where the “daisies” are attached - approx.) and remove it from the seat. A generously lubricated bolt is a guarantee of success.
  6. The next in order will be the bolt and nut that secure the stabilizer link. When dismantling this unit, there should be no problems.
  7. And the final stage is the wishbone bracket. When the bolt and nut are removed, you can remove the lever. For the best impact on the bolt, you can use a wrench extension.

Rubber-metal longitudinal tension joint

The rubber-metal longitudinal tension joint, or popularly simply “daisy”, is designed to take the brunt of the impact from uneven road surfaces; despite the fact that this element is very important, it is very easy to dismantle.

Having previously clamped the lever in a vice, we knock out the silent blocks one by one using a chisel or a thin flat screwdriver. Punching out daisies is not an easy task

Please note that during the dismantling process, its metal base may remain in the lever; if this happens, it will have to be knocked out in the same way, and then the seat will be cleaned of dirt. This is what the old suspension elements look like. We install new “daisies” by pressing them into the lever using a vice, with final fixation, striking the body with a hammer every 5-8 millimeters. To cause the least damage to silent blocks, it is better to place pieces of wood between the vices

To cause the least damage to silent blocks, it is better to place pieces of wood between the vices.

Stabilizer strut and cushion

  1. The stabilizer bar, or simply “eggs,” and the cushion provide the stabilizer bar with stable operation while driving the car.
  2. It is very easy to dismantle the “eggs”, just unscrew the mounting bolt from the transverse arm, and simply release the other end from the anti-roll bar by simple rocking. Sometimes it happens that they just break
  3. And to remove the pillows, you need to use a “13” key, unscrew two bolts securing the bracket and release it. After unscrewing the fastening, it is very easy to remove the pillow, but putting on a new one is much more difficult.
  4. When it is freed, you can simply dismantle it by cutting it with a knife in the thinnest place, or remove it from the stabilizer by first lubricating it with soapy water or WD-40.
  5. We install the elements in the reverse order, using a soap solution or lubricant for the best connection with the metal surface.

Making a puller with your own hands

As mentioned above, silent blocks are tightly pressed into the levers and into the so-called “stretch” on the suspension. You can press the new silent block into the extension using a regular chisel and hammer. But pressing the silent block into the suspension arm is a very labor-intensive procedure and cannot be done without a special device (puller). You can look for a puller in a car dealership, or you can skip wasting time on searching and make it yourself; fortunately, it’s not difficult. To make a puller, we need a bolt (M12), the length of the bolt is at least 180 mm. You should select a nut for it, and it should be high - at least 20 mm. You will also need a bushing. Length - at least 60 mm, internal diameter - 39 mm (such a sleeve can be made from a piece of pipe suitable in diameter) and two or three wide washers. What should happen in the end can be seen in the photographs below.

Replacing daisies on a VAZ 2110 with your own hands – Property protection

Replacing daisies on a VAZ-2114 with your own hands. Advice for car owners and car enthusiasts.

Symptoms of a problem

  • creaks in the car's chassis;
  • wheels and levers have a lot of play;
  • the tires of a VAZ 2110 car wear out unevenly and become unusable;
  • loss of stability of the car, the car becomes wadded and floats on the road;
  • The rubber bands are cracked.

When replacement is required

It will not be difficult for a more or less experienced driver to understand that the silent blocks are out of order and they need to be replaced. First of all, you will feel a certain discomfort while driving, you will hear the impact of iron in the suspension. But that's not all.

Determining the need to replace silent blocks is not difficult if you pay attention to the characteristic signs of their wear:

  • While driving, strong or minor rubber squeaks are observed. It all depends on the degree of wear. Loud noise is a very bad sign;
  • A noise similar to a knock is heard in the wheel area. This indicates that the silent blocks are poorly fixed and they are gradually destroyed;
  • Cracks form on the surface of the elements, after which the process of disintegration of the silent block begins. In such a situation, it will be impossible not to hear a knock.

Replacing daisies on a VAZ 2110

What are they used for?

First, let us note what function these suspension components perform. Silent blocks are rubber-metal products that provide a soft connection between parts. As a result, the car drives smoothly and softly. Part of the vibrations and shocks are absorbed by these rubber-metal products. Replacing the silent blocks of VAZ-2110 levers is done infrequently. This is not a consumable item. But there are certain signs by which wear can be detected. We will talk about them below.

Garage or service station

All car owners can be divided into two categories:

  1. Those who carry out most of the repairs themselves in their garage, and only in emergency cases turn to a car service;
  2. Those who prefer not to touch anything with their own hands, but completely entrust repairs and maintenance to the masters of service stations.

Each of them is right in their own way. Therefore, we have no right to reproach those who do not want to carry out repairs themselves. After all, garage and professional repair of silent blocks, like other components, has its advantages.

STO has the following advantages:

  • A high-quality, responsible car service provides a guarantee for repairs performed;
  • In the event of a repeated breakdown covered by the warranty, repairs will be carried out free of charge;
  • Professionals are professionals; they have extensive experience and knowledge, which allows them to competently perform their work.

But first you need to find such a car service, which, alas, is not an easy matter. Many provide a guarantee, but when you re-apply, they do everything possible to prove that the breakdown does not comply with the terms of the guarantee. A banal trick.

Repairing your garage will provide the following advantages:

  • Significant financial savings, since you only have to spend money on consumables;
  • The quality of the work performed by a master is always in doubt if you do not know this person personally. So self-repair may be much better than at a service station;
  • You purchase the silent block, and the master only installs it. Why pay money for work that you can do yourself?!;
  • Guarantee that a new one will be installed instead of the old silent block. Questionable service stations can easily install an old, more or less usable silent block instead of the one you gave them. You know what the result is.

Suspension design features

A feature of the suspension design is that many of its elements should not be rigidly connected, otherwise it will transfer all the vibration to the body.

How does the VAZ 2110 suspension work?

Therefore, some composite suspensions are connected by means of rubber bushings and rubber pads with metal bushings inside, i.e. silent blocks.

So, in the front independent suspension of the VAZ-2110 the following are connected to each other through silent blocks:

  1. Lower arm;
  2. Stretching;
  3. Anti-roll bar.

Each of these elements plays an important role in the suspension design.

The lower arm prevents lateral movement of the wheel, the extension prevents the wheel from moving longitudinally relative to the body, and the anti-roll bar prevents the body from swaying when performing maneuvers or when driving over uneven surfaces.

But the loads on these elements coming from the wheels are very large, so their displacement, although small, must be provided in order to partially absorb the loads and partially absorb them, and not transfer them to the body.

The possibility of displacement of suspension elements relative to each other and relative to the body, as well as partial damping of vibrations, is provided by silent blocks and rubber bushings.

On the VAZ-2110, silent blocks and bushings are installed in the front suspension:

  • Lower arm (two silent blocks - through one it is attached to the body, and through the second a stretcher is connected to it);
  • Stretch bar (one silent block through which it is attached to the crossbar);
  • Anti-roll bar (it is connected to the lower arm through a strut with two silent blocks, and to the car body through brackets with rubber bushings).

Since the VAZ-2110 has a dependent rear suspension, so many silent blocks are not required, because it is structurally simpler.

At the rear of the entire suspension there are only two silent blocks installed - through which the rear beam is attached to the body brackets.

Polyurethane or rubber, which is better?

It is better to replace standard rubber bushings with polyurethane ones, then they will last much longer. Polyurethane hinges improve the car's behavior on the track and reduce unwanted deformations in the connections of suspension elements. Polyurethane hinges are better than rubber ones at absorbing suspension shocks, vibrations and reducing noise when the car is moving. Their only drawback is their relatively high cost, but the increased service life of the products offsets this difference in price.

Step-by-step guide to replacing daisies on a VAZ 2110

We unscrew the stabilizer with a 17mm wrench, you can also take a ratchet and a 17mm socket.

We unscrew the fastenings of the lever to the body with a 19 key

Unscrew the two ball joint bolts with a 17 mm socket

You can remove the lever, fix it in a vice, insert a bolt so that it does not go down and press out the daisies, they came out without problems, but your situation may be different. We knock down the clip with a chisel and hammer.

We knock out from both sides. Using sandpaper, we lightly remove rust from the seats of the daisies and clips. We insert the daisies and press them in using a medium-force hammer blow.

To press out the silent block, we use a finger from the steering rod; on the other hand, we insert a mandrel of a suitable size into a vice.

To press in a new silent block in the garage, you need to remove a small chamfer on the sandpaper; this will not affect its operation in any way, but it will be easier to press in the part.

Then we lubricate its body and seat with soap to make entry easier. Now it can be pressed in using a regular vice.

At the same time, we try to center it so that the silent block runs smoothly. We bring it to half, then reinsert the tie rod pin and the mandrel and make the final fixation. We carry out assembly in reverse order. Fully tighten all nuts with the machine lowered.

Selecting New Items

Polyurethane To replace and ensure reliable operation of the car, you need to purchase good silent blocks. Choosing them is not difficult if you know some nuances:

  • For the VAZ 2110 model, elements with catalog number 2110 2914054 are suitable. They have the required outer diameter corresponding to this specific VAZ model;
  • Do not try to purchase a silent block from a “nine” and install it on your “ten”. Nothing will come of such events, no matter what anyone says;
  • Make sure of the quality of the products. Low-grade silent blocks have flooded the market, but their service life leaves much to be desired. Good parts are made from high quality materials that can withstand extreme loads and temperatures.

Consequences of consumables malfunction

It should be noted that silent blocks and bushings are consumables.

Due to heavy loads, it is possible that the rubber part of the silent block may be pressed through, detached from the metal bushing, and the rubber itself may delaminate. As a result, they are no longer able to work properly.

This results in knocking from the suspension, the appearance of creaks, when driving, especially over uneven surfaces, the car can throw from side to side, and the more wear on the silent blocks, the stronger the tossing will be.

Also, due to worn silent blocks, the angles of the wheel position - camber and toe - change, because of which the car will no longer hold the road, it will begin to drift in any direction, the tires will quickly wear out due to incorrect angles.

So, the condition of all rubber elements of the car suspension must be constantly monitored, and if signs of malfunction appear, they must be promptly replaced.

With certain knowledge and the availability of tools, you can replace silent blocks yourself without contacting a service center.

Preparing for work

So, first you need to prepare the appropriate set of tools. In addition to new silent blocks (polyurethane or rubber-metal, it doesn’t matter), a standard set of heads with a ratchet, a soap solution, and universal lubricant VD-40 are required. As an alternative, you can use an analogue from. The product costs several times less, but the effect is the same, as noted by reviews from car owners. Also, in order for the replacement of silent blocks on a VAZ-2110 car to be successful, we will need an inspection hole, overpass or lift. Of course, you can use a jack, but it will be very difficult. Among the special tools for replacement, you will need a puller for pressing out rubber-metal products. You can use tubes with washers and a vice. The main thing is that the washers and tube match the diameter.

Tools and accessories

There are not so many tools that will be required to replace all consumables, but some of them are specific.

  • Set of keys, heads, knobs;
  • A set of new oil seals and bushings;
  • Device for pressing out and pressing in silent blocks;
  • Puller for ball joint;
  • Jack;
  • Stops;
  • Vise;
  • Hammer and wooden spacers;
  • Soap solution.

Device for pressing out and pressing in silent blocks.

You can buy it or make it yourself.

The simplest homemade device consists of a long bolt with a nut, pieces of pipe with different diameters and several thick washers.

The principle of operation of such a device is very simple.

To press out the silent block, take a bolt and put a washer on it, the size is slightly smaller than the diameter of the rubber part of the silent block.

The bolt is passed through the bushing of the silent block. On the other hand, a piece of pipe with a diameter equal to the diameter of the seat, for example, a lever, is thrown onto the bolt.

That is, the pipe will have to rest against the circumference of the seat in the lever.

Next, another washer is put on the bolt, its circumference larger than the diameter of the pipe, and then the nut is screwed on.

Pressing out is done like this: the nut, when screwed on, will pull towards itself the washer resting on the silent block.

The installed tube will allow it to come out of the seat and not rest against another washer.

Pressing is done in exactly the same way, with the only difference that it is not necessary to use a piece of pipe, since the silent block will rest against the thrust washer when it sits in place.

You can even press-fit without using a device; it is enough to have only a vice, between the jaws of which a new silent block and lever are installed, so that it and its seat are on the same axis.

Next, the vice compresses and the consumable itself falls into place. But in this way you can install silent blocks only on the lever and stabilizer struts, but on the cross member you will still need a device for replacement.

Replacing daisies. — logbook Lada 2112 2007 on DRIVE2

After replacing the supports, stabilizer struts and tips, the knocking still did not go away, I read on the drive and somewhere else that it might be daisies, they just looked tired to me, well, I think they were, I took them all apart, they really died, I pressed out the old ones , I stuck the new ones in and put them on one side for now, at least to check whether they were there or not, I took it for a ride, it felt a little rougher, maybe because I pulled everything together well, at first I was glad that the knocking had disappeared, but that was not the case, I drove up to the house, everything was smooth when braking and starting, but much quieter, tomorrow I'll change the right side and look at the caliper, most likely there's nothing more wrong with it, so tomorrow I'll look on the right side to see if the caliper is hanging there and then I'll think further, but the problem is almost gone :)

Replacing consumables, eliminating axial play

Having dismantled the suspension elements, you can begin to press out the worn silent blocks and install new ones.

Using a special device prepared in advance, old silent blocks are removed from the crossbar, levers and racks and new ones are pressed into their place.

To facilitate installation, new consumables can be moistened with soapy water.

But the use of petroleum-based lubricants is not recommended, since they have a negative effect on rubber elements.

Regarding the stabilizer struts, before pressing out, they will need to be knocked off the stabilizer, since they are tightly seated on it.

When knocking down, it is better to use a hammer and strike through a wooden spacer.

Instructions for self-replacement

Why pay if you can do all the work on changing a component of the transmission system yourself? Of course, if you do not have experience in this, then it is better to entrust this matter to specialists. But if you follow the instructions, there should be no problems with replacement.

Getting ready for replacement

  • new clutch for your car;
  • a set of wrenches, you will also need socket wrenches;
  • screwdriver;
  • crowbar;
  • jack;
  • bricks.

The request returned an empty result.

Step by step instructions

So, if you decide to change the clutch device yourself, but do not want to bother with dismantling the gearbox, then we will look at the replacement process without removing the box. Let's get started:

  1. Unscrew the screws securing the left wheel of your car and place the front part of the VAZ 2110 on a jack. To protect yourself, place bricks under the car body. Also place wheel chocks under the rear wheels.
  2. Next, you need to completely remove the wheel and unscrew a few mounting screws that hold the ball joint in place.
  3. After removing the wheels, open the hood and disconnect the battery. To do this, it will be enough to remove the negative terminal from the battery. This is done in order to prevent short circuits during repair work.
  4. Now you need to remove the air filter element housing. This must be done in order to gain access to the screws with which the gearbox is attached to the internal combustion engine.
  5. If there is engine protection, then let's start removing it. Unscrew all the screws around the perimeter of the motor protection and remove it.
  6. Remove the long screw that secures the anti-roll bar.
  7. Now let's get down to one of the most crucial moments in this work process. If you decide not to dismantle the transmission, you will still need to move the unit to the side. In order for the unit to move freely, it is necessary to remove the left mudguard. After this, unscrew all the ball joint bolts.
  8. Next, move the left strut behind the wheel drive. Otherwise, you will not be able to move the gearbox.
  9. After this you will need to disconnect two connectors from the transmission. To the right of the unit there is a plate responsible for fastening the jet thrust. By the way, the other part of the plate is located at the gear shift lever. Visually remember the location of the jet thrust fastener, otherwise you will have to sweat later to adjust the unit selector to the working position.
  10. With the connectors disconnected and the torque rod removed, the transmission is essentially freed from its main mounts. Now you need to disconnect it directly from the internal combustion engine. Here, use wrenches and remove several bolts (usually no more than three) and one nut.
  11. Now it is necessary to dismantle the rear cushion, which, in fact, attaches the gearbox to the engine. This should be done so that the engine is not released too much, so it is better to place the internal combustion engine on a jack or on supports.
  12. The same must be done with the gearbox, having first moved it to the required distance. Here you may need help, since it will not be easy to move the unit and place supports under it alone. In addition, everything must be done carefully to prevent mechanical damage to the unit.
  13. You now have access to the clutch mechanism. Replace it, and then reassemble all parts in the reverse order. Tighten the transmission-to-engine screws securely. After replacing the clutch, you need to center the disc.

Step-by-step replacement of the VAZ-2110 speed sensor with 8 and 16 valves

In order to change the speed sensor yourself, it is enough to have two or three keys (10, 21, 22) and a Phillips screwdriver on hand.

  1. The current in the car is turned off; to do this, remove the connector from the battery.
  2. The wire connector is disconnected from the sensor; it is recommended to remember the pinout.
  3. The sensor can be unscrewed manually, or using keys 21 or 22 (depending on the design).
  4. The condition of the drive is studied. After the sensor is removed, using a 10mm wrench, unscrew and remove the nut that secures the sensor drive.
  5. A drive with mechanical damage must be replaced; if there is none, you can leave it the same.
  6. Installation of a new device should be done in reverse order.
  7. The new drive has a rubber attachment that needs to be lubricated with transmission oil.
  8. After installation, it is recommended to check the polarity of the wires using a multimeter. If the contacts are suddenly mixed up, they are swapped.
  9. It remains to be checked. This is done either with the car running or with the wheels suspended.

Selection of parts and necessary tools

Before you start directly replacing silent blocks, it is important to properly prepare for it. There are few specific recommendations for choosing new parts. The auto parts market is simply filled with silent blocks from different manufacturers, mostly they are all quite good. The only thing you can do to make a better choice of new parts is to consult with auto mechanics in your area. The main thing is that the new vibration isolators fit completely.

For repair work you will need the following things:

Set of new silent blocks

Important! Despite the complexity of replacing silent blocks, it is necessary to have at least basic repair skills. Therefore, objectively weigh your strengths before replacing and decide whether you can do it.

Replacing suspension silent blocks with your own hands

The suspension silent blocks on the VAZ-2112 are located in the arms of both the rear beam and the front one. It is advisable to replace them comprehensively. The replacement process is approximately the same on both the rear and front parts of the suspension. Below are instructions for both cases.

Front control arms

Replacing front control arm silent blocks on a VAZ-2112 is the following process:

  1. First of all, the car must be placed above the inspection hole or use a lift. Then remove the engine compartment protection represented by the casing.

Removing the engine protection

Unscrew the nut of the stabilizer bar mounting bolt.

Unscrew the nut on the extension

Unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the lever to the body

A long bolt, a couple of washers and a nut are all sold in hardware stores and can be used to make a puller

“Let’s spritz”, it’s better to heat it up some more. Next, we use our puller to press out the silent block.

We clean the socket from rust and dirt, lubricate

We press new silent blocks into the mounting groove

New silent block installed

Important! Many car enthusiasts do not press out silent blocks, but burn them out, which is extremely wrong. During heat treatment, the quality of the metal from which the lever is made seriously changes for the worse.

Replacing silent blocks in the rear beam

Replacing the rear silent blocks is done as follows:

  1. Again, the car must be driven into a viewing hole or raised on a lift.
  2. Then, taking a 19mm wrench, you need to disconnect the rear beam from the bracket by unscrewing the nuts securing it.

Unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the lever to the bracket

Press the silent block towards the car threshold

Press in the silent block using a puller

Important! After carrying out measures to replace silent blocks (both front and rear), it is very important to do a wheel alignment.

How does a malfunction of the front silent blocks manifest itself?

VAZ 2110 replacement of silent blocks of the front suspension

It is not difficult to find out if they are working correctly. To do this, you need to pay attention to the following:

  • Will the rubber of the front wheels stick together while driving? However, driving does not have to be long distances. Even when traveling short distances, creaking should not be observed. This does not mean that the creaking will be very noticeable - it may be barely audible;
  • Are there any defects on the tires? Usually, if silent blocks do not work well, then small cracks and breaks appear on them.
  • Is there any knocking noise in the front wheels? The fact is that the silent blocks begin to slide poorly, so over time it becomes more and more difficult for them to spin, which is why they begin to make sounds similar to knocking.

Note: here you cannot act according to the principle of doctors: one “symptom” cannot indicate the presence of a “disease”. On the contrary, if at least one of the above problems is noticeable, then the silent blocks need to be changed urgently.

Preparing to replace them

Replacing silent blocks on the front suspension of a VAZ 2110

The vast majority of people are afraid to replace silent blocks at home. Although in reality this is a fairly simple task. But first you need to prepare properly. A puller is a must. With its help, it will be possible not only to remove the silent blocks, but also to return them to their original position after performing all the maneuvers. What is a puller? This is a tool consisting of two tubes and two washers.

Note: pullers vary. But when choosing them, you need to pay attention to ensure that they are suitable for silent blocks. By the way, you can make a puller at home.

Silent blocks: purpose and condition diagnosis

Silent blocks are vibration-isolating parts used in the suspension structure of any modern car . Such vibration isolators consist of metal and rubber (elastomer). Thanks to the use of vulcanized processing technology, silent blocks are excellent dampers and insulators from external vibrations received by the machine when moving.

These parts, familiar to every car enthusiast, need to be changed from time to time. Therefore, our resource decided to highlight in today’s material the question of how to replace VAZ-2112 silent blocks with your own hands. Having familiarized yourself with it, the repair process itself and preparation for it will become a fairly simple task for you.

The main function of these parts is to connect the suspension units in which torsional, radial and axial vibrations are the strongest, and subsequently dampen them.

Thus, silent blocks provide not only comfort when driving a car, but also increase the service life of some other suspension parts for a considerable period.

Lifetime

On average, manufacturers of silent blocks set their service life to 100,000 kilometers. But, as noted earlier, due to the not very good condition of Russian roads, vibration isolators often wear out ahead of time. Many auto mechanics advise checking the condition of the VAZ-2112 suspension silent blocks every 15-20,000 kilometers , and replacing them every 60-80,000 .

Removing the gearbox

To gain access to the clutch on a VAZ 2110, you need to remove the battery and air filter (completely, along with the mass air flow sensor).

Unscrew the drive (the so-called cable).

Unscrew the top bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.

  • Do-it-yourself replacement of rear beam silent blocks on a VAZ 2110

Disconnect the speed sensor “chip” and remove the wiring harness fastening.

Now you need to “hang” (raise) the front wheels of the car. Let me clarify - we removed the gearbox only to repair the VAZ 2110 clutch, and the method that I describe and present in the photo allows us not to pull the drives out of the “box” and not to drain the oil from it. Loosen the drive nut on the right side of the gearbox almost to the end of the thread, and on the left, tighten it completely (from here we will pull out the drive).

Unscrew the suspension arm.

Now the ball joint.

  • Do-it-yourself pressing and pressing of silent blocks

As well as suspension arm bolts (two pieces).

The front suspension arm has been removed.

Remove the “mudguard” (lower engine protection). Disconnect the reverse light switch.

Unscrew the torque rod from the gearbox and remove the lower crankcase cover.

Loosen the nut on the collar of the rocker link (transmission control drive) and disconnect it. Note that after the repair of the VAZ 2110 clutch is completed and the box is installed in place, the link will need to be adjusted.

Unscrew the lower bolt and nut securing the box to the engine. Finding and unscrewing a bolt is not a problem, but finding a nut can be difficult. It can be “closed” by the drive located in the box.

Place the jack under the engine, being careful not to damage the sump.

Unscrew the gearbox from the “cushion”.

Lower the engine slightly on the jack and remove the gearbox.

As for my case, a complete replacement of the VAZ 2110 clutch was not required. The cause of the malfunction was the breakdown of the release bearing, and only the basket, disc and, naturally, the release bearing itself had to be changed.

Repair and Improvement" on DRIVE2

After replacing the struts, supports, steering and ball bearings, the knocking noise when driving on rough roads did not disappear. And then the other day I crawled under the car and noticed the damaged silent blocks.

I went online to see how this whole thing is changing and someone on Drive found a post about replacing silent blocks and rubber bands, or popularly known as “Daisies.” After studying the material, I finally decided to change them.

We bought silent blocks, front suspension extension joints (“Daisies”), as well as stabilizer bushings and anti-roll bar struts (popularly “Eggs”).

Daisies

Eggs

Let's begin.

To put the silent block in place you need to use some kind of thread and tube. The inner ring of the wheel bearing caught my eye (see photo above). It fits just right. We press the silent block in completely, not forgetting to lubricate it with soap.

Now we change the daisies. We knock out the old ones with a chisel. For me they fell apart into 2 parts.

We clean the seat, lubricate it with lithol and hammer new ones into place.

Required tools:

  • vice;
  • new silent blocks VAZ 2109;
  • liquid soap (can be replaced with detergent or soapy water)
  • source of fire (a gas burner is suitable);
  • a piece of pipe whose diameter allows free entry of the silent block;
  • standard set of keys;
  • chisel and hammer;
  • WD-40 penetrating fluid.

To work, place the car on a viewing hole or lift.

To replace the silent blocks of a VAZ 2109, as for other work, disassembly and dismantling are required.

  1. Unscrew the lower lever. To do this, use a socket with an extension to remove the extension nut, as well as the fixation nut to the body. Then remove the stabilizer link and 2 ball joint bolts. To make it easier to work with stuck and rusted nuts, you need to warm up the connection or use a penetrating liquid. If these methods do not help, try unscrewing the crab, clamp it in a vice, and try again.
  1. Secure the removed lever in a vice and use a lamp or torch to burn out the old silent block from its seat. If this option is not possible, you will have to press it out with a special puller or vice, but this will take more time.

  1. After the silent block has burned out slightly, it can be easily removed with a screwdriver or chisel.

  1. Remove dirt, dust and rust from the place where the new silent block will be installed. Blow it out thoroughly.

Garage or service station

All car owners can be divided into two categories:

  1. Those who carry out most of the repairs themselves in their garage, and only in emergency cases turn to a car service;

  • A high-quality, responsible car service provides a guarantee for repairs performed;
  • In the event of a repeated breakdown covered by the warranty, repairs will be carried out free of charge;

  • Significant financial savings, since you only have to spend money on consumables;
  • The quality of the work performed by a master is always in doubt if you do not know this person personally. So self-repair may be much better than at a service station;
  • You purchase the silent block, and the master only installs it. Why pay money for work that you can do yourself?!;
  • Guarantee that a new one will be installed instead of the old silent block. Questionable service stations can easily install an old, more or less usable silent block instead of the one you gave them. You know what the result is.
