We change the fuel filter on a Daewoo Nexia with our own hands (8 and 16 valves)

The fuel filter in any car is a consumable item. As it is used, its timely replacement is necessary. From this article you will learn how to replace the fuel filter on a Daewoo Nexia with your own hands. First of all, we can congratulate you, you have found the most complete and detailed instructions for replacing the fuel filter with photographs and videos.

Fuel filter on Nexia

It is recommended to replace the fuel filter no later than 40 thousand kilometers, as the manufacturer recommends. The ideal figure for replacement would be 10 thousand kilometers, this is due to the poor quality of gasoline.

The instructions are universal for all Nexias and are suitable for cars before 2008, as well as restyling after 2008 (N150), 8 valves and 16 valves.

Often, to determine whether it is time to change the fuel filter or not, it is enough to identify the symptoms. For example, at high engine speeds there will be jerks when moving, the engine will seem to twitch and not respond to gas. This often indicates a clogged fuel filter or lack of gasoline. There is no need to wait for these symptoms to appear; it is better to change consumables on time.

Changing the engine oil

When changing the oil, you should take into account the mileage and duration of use of the oil in the engine. The properties of the oil deteriorate not only during vehicle operation, but also during the natural aging process of the oil. If you frequently start a cold engine or constantly drive in heavy city traffic with frequent stops, the oil and oil filter should be changed earlier than the period specified in the maintenance schedule. The frequency of oil changes is every 10 thousand kilometers or six months. In difficult operating conditions - after 5 thousand km or three months. When changing engine oil, the oil filter should be replaced. We change the oil with the engine fully warmed up. We carry out the work on an inspection ditch or overpass.

Sensors that make it impossible to start a Nexia

The sensors in the Nexia are not only responsible for the formation of the fuel-air mixture, but some sensors can prevent the engine from starting.

Crankshaft position sensor - affects engine starting. A break in the chain, as well as its incorrect operation, will not allow you to move even a millimeter!

Idle speed sensor - indirectly affects engine starting. The situation is as follows: You are trying to start the engine, and it seems to catch, but no, it immediately stalls. This inexpensive sensor may be to blame.

Absolute pressure sensor - on some versions of Nexia it affects starting the engine in cold weather. A vacuum tube goes from the sensor to the inlet, in winter condensation forms in it and the engine simply does not start!

Sergey Fedorov, editor:
— When operating the Daewoo Nexia or any other modern car, make it a rule to periodically monitor the level and cleanliness of the engine oil in the engine. Neglecting this simple rule can lead to unplanned expenses. The fuel filter should be updated at least once every 30 thousand km. And if operating conditions are difficult, even more often.

Instructions for replacing the Daewoo Nexia fuel pump filter

Today, the quality of domestic fuel leaves much to be desired, and this factor directly affects the operation of vehicles. In particular, cars running on low-quality gasoline are more susceptible to breakdowns in the operation of the fuel pump or fuel filter. Today you will learn how to replace the Nexia fuel pump filter, what is needed for this and how to change the element correctly.

We carry out the replacement ourselves

Deu Nexia cars, like any other cars, require refueling only with high-quality gasoline. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find one at domestic gas stations, as a result of which the car owner has to carry out technical work to replace certain parts more often. Here we are talking about the Nexia fuel pump filter. You can carry out such repair work yourself, and today you will learn how to do it.

Old and new mesh filter element for the fuel pump of the Daewoo Nexia

Please note: the car's operating manual does not say anything about replacing the filter element. That is, the manufacturer installed the filter for the entire life of the car. But given the low quality of Russian gasoline, experts recommend replacing the filter mesh or at least cleaning it at least every 20 thousand kilometers.

What to cook?

First of all, you should prepare thoroughly. Keep in mind that when you disassemble the fuel pump, going to the store to get something missing will be problematic, so it’s better to prepare everything in advance. So, you will need:

  • wrench 8;
  • Gasket for fuel pump;
  • new mesh for the filter element.

Instructions

Before you begin to replace the fuel pump filter, you must relieve the pressure in the system. To do this, start the engine, and then find the relay on the fuse box that controls the fuel pump. Remove it from the socket: after some time the car should stall. When this happens, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

  1. The fuel pump in the Daewoo Nexia is located in the rear of the body under the seats. To get to it, you need to remove the rear seat. To do this, you need to press the seat cushion towards the trunk and at the same time lift it slightly.
  2. After removing the seat, under the carpet we will see a hole for the fuel pump. By picking up the plastic plug with a screwdriver, this part can be removed.
  3. Then you should unscrew the clamp with which the pipe is attached to the fuel pump.
  4. Having done this, you can disconnect the power cords of the unit.
  5. Now carefully, without applying additional force, use pliers to disconnect the pipe from the fuel pump. At this moment, the device can be turned a little in different directions so that the hose suitable for it does not break. The relatively small space will not allow you to conveniently dismantle your pump, so you will have to work hard here.
  6. After this, when the pipe and wires are disconnected, use an 8-mm wrench to unscrew the bolts securing the element to the car body.
  7. When the screws are unscrewed, begin to rotate the pump around its axis so that it does not cling to the car body with the mesh, that is, the filter itself.
  8. Now that your unit has been dismantled, it's time to start disassembling it. To do this, remove the clamps securing the pipe so that the hose is more elastic. Also be sure to disconnect the fuel system component's power plug.
  9. Then it will be necessary to remove the tube frame. We need to start at the base of the fuel cell. In order to pull the frame through the lower rubber clamp, you will need to make an effort. Please note that during this operation you must be careful not to tear the rubber retaining gasket.
  10. Having slightly bent the lower part of the frame, we remove it from the pump itself.
  11. Then, by removing the rubber retaining gasket, you get directly to the filter component. Remove it and replace it with a new one, reassembling all parts in the reverse order.

How to determine if a fuel pump is faulty

Be that as it may, most of the signs indicating a fuel pump malfunction may indicate problems in other systems and components of the machine. The car is malfunctioning - maybe the spark plugs, maybe the ignition, maybe some sensor is acting up. Extraneous noise in the engine can generally be caused by various breakdowns. Even when the engine stalls immediately after starting, you cannot blame only the fuel pump. For example, without readings from the crankshaft position sensor, the ECU can stop the pump, which is quite a normal car reaction to such a problem. And even a decrease in pressure in the system can be caused by leaks in the fuel lines, breakdown of the bypass valve and other failures.

What can you do right away? First of all, you can check the operation of the fuel pump before starting the engine. To do this, open the fuel tank cap and have someone turn on the ignition without turning the starter. In the first seconds after turning on the ignition, you should hear a specific noise from the fuel pump. If it is missing, most likely the pump will have to be replaced, although it is possible that the reason for the failure is the power supply to the device.

Measuring the pressure in the fuel rail is another way to check the fuel pump. Normal pressure readings, as well as the correct procedure for installing a pressure gauge, should be found in the documentation for your car.

Most often, in modern cars, when the fuel pump fails, it is replaced. But there is no need to rush into this. Perhaps the cause of the failure is not the fuel pump itself, but, for example, a coarse filter that is simply clogged. In this case, simply cleaning this mesh will help and you won’t need to change anything. It is also worth checking the wiring, fuse, as well as the fuel pump relay; perhaps the reason for the failure of the device lies here. Again, checking the fuel lines, the bypass valve, and even the injectors themselves will also not be superfluous.
