The VAZ 2110 is equipped with a three-speed windshield wiper system. The cause of its malfunction may be a gear motor, relays, fuses, a steering column switch, and even a leaking washer reservoir on a VAZ 2110 car. The article discusses the causes of wiper malfunctions and their elimination.

Brief description of electrical work.
Based on a 1991 model year car. The connector to which the rear wiper is connected has four contacts. “Ground”, “Ignition on - 12 volts”, “Cleaner” and “Washer”. Sheet 1 contains a table of signals at this connector in various operating modes. Inside, the windshield wiper drive has a shaped slip ring and a set of contact brushes (sheet 3). The point of the whole design is that when the ignition is turned on and there are no external control signals, the drive goes into the braking zone (in the diagram - braking angle) and waits there. If, by applying voltage to the motor, you move it so that it leaves the “power-off angle,” then the drive will make almost a full revolution until it next enters the dead zone (power-off angle). In addition, there are engine control circuits in the electronic unit. The electronic unit generates a pulse that starts the engine and works out time intervals for the start-stop mode of the windshield wiper and for its continuous operation for several passes when the washer is turned on. Actually, the engine is controlled by a relay located in the block. Time intervals are generated by the 555th timer. The relay turns on the engine when it is necessary to move the windshield wiper mechanism out of the "power off angle" and then shorts one of the brushes of the contact system to ground. When the mechanism completes its cycle, power to the motor is turned off and the motor is then shorted to ground to provide dynamic braking. In the original and VAZ mechanisms there are minor differences in contacts that do not interfere with the normal operation of the entire electrical part. The brushes on the VAZ mechanism are located differently than on the original one, but this also does not matter much. In principle, if in doubt, you can take a power source and an ohmmeter and observe the operation of the entire brush system. The wiring for the mechanism from the VAZ 2112 is shown on sheet 2. Minor mechanical modifications to the unit are required. The mechanism mounts on the original and on the VAZ-2112 are located on different sides, and accordingly the threads are cut from different sides. The holes are through, the thread is normal M6, the distances between the holes are the same. Take a 6 mm tap and cut the thread through. If the tap is short, then it is simply cut into the same holes on the other side. The shafts of the mechanisms have the same diameters, but the length of the original one is slightly longer and the brush holder fasteners are different. You can order a turner you know to make an attachment in the image and likeness of the shank from the original mechanism (sheet 4), or you can, if you don’t mind the original, just cut off part of the tube through which the shaft passes from it. We need to remove the plastic attachment from the VAZ cleaner - it is simply put on the shaft and we do not need it. You also need to trim the plastic insert placed on the bushing of the original cleaner and shorten the thread for the outer nut. I didn’t take the exact measurements - I took a hacksaw and a file and adjusted everything in place. The mounting principle changes somewhat - the original windshield wiper is attached to the bracket with two bolts and is tightened by the shank with a nut. The converted VAZ retains the fastening with two bolts, and the shank passes through the manufactured bushing and a VAZ brush is put on it from the outside (I took one from 2104 - it seems to me that it is most suitable. The brush clamps the manufactured bushing and provides a third attachment point. A little worse, than in the original, but it seems tolerable. If you order an adapter from a turner, you can make a normal rigid mount. The washer tube with a nozzle from the original device is transferred to the VAZ brush holder, and for the brush you need to make a simple adapter. You can attach a brush from 2101, but then the sprayer is not very good successfully pours water - not on the glass, but directly on the brush. In general, these are small things and you can do them as you like. 1. Electronic unit and relay - are they already inside the motor from 2112 or do they need to be sculpted? Or are they in Grande itself? It’s not clear from the explanations.

— There is an electronic unit on the motor from 2112, but it is unique. I used a block that was on the original engine and everything written applies exactly to the situation when the original block is present. Vazovsky is obviously similar in some ways and it can also be attached, but I didn’t bother to deal with it, because... Having checked the angles of the contacts, I came to the conclusion that everything will work well with the original electronics unit.

2. About the other fasteners for the brush holder - do I understand correctly that the sophistication with the bushing and turner was needed to attach the brush (not the wiper itself, but the waving stick) to the grandee?

— “Waving stick” :o))) I added it from a VAZ-2104, but sophistication was needed, since on the motor from 2112 the entire frame of the output shaft was simply made differently. The original wiper has a long deadwood sticking out with a thread at the end and everything is profiled for fastening to the door, but in the motor from 2112 a plastic sleeve is simply put on and that’s it.

Otherwise, it’s not clear why you need an adapter if you can just take a VAZ motor with the original VAZ brush, which obviously should fit on it without any adapters.

3. There is some kind of diode indicated in the diagram. Is it already in the engine from 2112 or does it need to be installed there yourself?

— to tell the truth, I don’t remember anymore. He was using his original engine, but I won’t say right away that he was using a VAZ. Well, in general, I did everything “in the image and likeness.” Almost a year has passed. In such cases, diodes are usually installed to protect relay contacts from burnout, transistors from breakdown when starting or stopping the engine, or so that some current can be passed through it. Why he was there, I don’t remember now.

4. In general, do I understand correctly that nothing will prevent me from making a thread in the engine with a tap, hanging it on the back door along with the VAZ brush without any adapters and it will fit there normally?

Unscrew the fixing nut

First, let's figure out how to remove the wipers on a VAZ 2110. The design provides several fasteners, by unscrewing which you can easily remove the wipers themselves.

Removing the nozzle

How to remove the upper part of the windshield

  • Using a 10mm socket, unscrew the two nuts located along the edges of the cladding.
  • Next, unscrew the four self-tapping screws that secure the cladding. The screws are located under the plugs.
  • Then you need to disconnect the sound insulation, which is attached to the wind window trim with six self-tapping screws.
  • Carefully remove the top part of the windshield.

First stage: diagnostics and elimination of electrical faults

Every owner of the tenth model probably noticed clicks and noise coming from the gearmotor located on the left when activating the windshield wiper system. Therefore, at the initial stage of solving the question of why the wipers do not work on the VAZ 2110, you should pay attention specifically to the nature of the operation of this unit.

The electric motor does not show any signs of operability - it is necessary to inspect fuse F5 in the mounting block located on the left under the headlight beam hydraulic corrector. A serviceable fuse primarily serves as an indicator of problems in the electric drive feeding system.

A multimeter will help you identify the faulty area: you need to “ring” the circuit in resistance mode from the fuse to the gearmotor and steering column lever, and even the switch itself. The multimeter induces zero: the section is serviceable, an infinitely large value is a reason to inspect the terminals and wires.

The malfunction is resolved by the following steps:

  • clean/crimp the terminals in the fuse block, contact connectors of the steering column switch and gearmotor;
  • replace wires;
  • replace the lever on the steering column that activates the windshield wipers.

Relay K2 type 524.3747, located in the mounting block, is responsible for the operation of the windshield wipers in cycles with pauses (I and II positions). The system does not operate in intermittent mode - a reason for a detailed inspection and replacement of the relay. Under such circumstances, the steering column switch should also be “sinned”.

Something to keep in mind! If the relay is defective, the windshield wipers operate completely unprecedentedly in the third extreme position of the right steering column switch.

However, a faulty relay does not always stop the operation of the unit in intermittent mode. Windshield wipers can effectively perform their function in positions I and II, however, the presence of a defect in the relay will be indicated by the absence of pauses between sweeps of the brushes, characteristic of these modes.

  • the nuts securing the levers to the trapezoid shafts were unscrewed;
  • The brushes are frozen to the glass.
