Which car is better to take: VAZ 2115 or Daewoo Nexia?


Not all car enthusiasts can afford to buy an expensive car, or even a car from the middle price segment.

When choosing in the lowest price range for used cars, when the budget is limited to literally 100 thousand rubles, the most common models are Daewoo Nexia and the domestic auto industry represented by the VAZ-2110.

These two cars can really be compared to each other as they are equally cheap and have their own strengths and weaknesses. To settle on one of the candidates, you should compare them in more detail, look into the interior and engine compartment, and take into account other characteristics and capabilities that are significant for the buyer.

The comparison will be made between the latest update of the VAZ-2110 and the 2nd generation Daewoo Nexia.

General technical information

The second generation Daewoo Nexia was introduced at the end of the summer of 2008. Although it was called a new generation, in fact it is the result of a deep modernization of its predecessor. The car received a slightly modified appearance, a different interior and engines. Production of the car continued until 2016.

The second Nexia is built on a front-wheel drive platform from FGeneral Motors, which was called T-Body. Nexia inherited this trolley from the Opel Kadett E. The engine is mounted transversely. The front suspension is independent with MacPherson struts. At the rear there is a semi-independent system with an elastic cross member.

The steering mechanism is rack and pinion, and only on the TOP trim levels was power steering available. There are ventilated disc brakes at the front and primitive drums at the rear. ABS wasn't even an option.

The domestic top ten is much older than its current competitor, but this did not give Nexia any particular advantage.

Work on the VAZ-2110 project began back in 1983, but a prototype appeared only 2 years later. Serial production started in 1995. Even at that time, from a technical point of view, the model was significantly inferior to its foreign competitors.

Over the course of its entire life cycle, the ten went through several updates, but production was eventually stopped in 2007. Although, under license from the Bogdan plant under the brand of the same name, the car continued to be assembled in Cherkassy until 2014.

The VAZ-2110 uses a front-wheel drive platform, which the model inherited from the VAZ 2108. The front suspension is independent with MacPherson struts. At the rear, AvtoVAZ installed a semi-independent structure with a torsion beam. The steering mechanism is rack and pinion, but only in later versions did a standard hydraulic booster appear. The front brakes are disc and the rear are drums. There was no ABS system.

Daewoo Nexia

It is a front-wheel drive car developed by the German manufacturer Opel and subsequently improved by the Korean company Daewoo. Produced from 1996 to 2016 . Available in sedan, three-door and five-door hatchback versions. It has a five-speed manual as well as a four-speed automatic transmission.

First generation cars were sold in two trim levels - basic and extended . The extended version had an improved appearance and was equipped with decorative wheel covers. After restyling, the body changed significantly, the engine became modernized. The front and rear bumpers and optics were updated, the interior was changed, and shockproof beams were added on the doors.

Standard equipment includes:

More expensive versions are equipped with centralized locking, hydraulic power steering, air conditioning, car radio, power windows on all doors, and acoustic speakers. There are mudguards, exterior mirrors with turn signal repeaters. It is also possible to install sun protection film on the windshield and athermal glass.

Exterior and dimensions

The appearance of the dozen is made in the style of the late 90s, early 2000s. Quite smooth lines and a large glass area create a relatively good image.

For its time, the car was quite interesting and attractive. The top ten marked the beginning of a new stage in the Russian automotive industry.

The VAZ-2110 belongs to the European B-class, and fully fits this category in its dimensions:

So, how can you make the final choice between the domestic VAZ-2112 and the foreign car Nexia? If you choose one of these options, you will have to purchase a used car. Based on the fact that some VAZ-2112s rolled off assembly lines several years ago, the choice is often recommended to be made in favor of a domestic manufacturer.

Car enthusiasts note that in almost all characteristics Lada and Nexia are approximately the same. Even when purchasing in both cases, you need to look at the body, since in each of the presented models it is subject to corrosion. Despite approximately the same ground clearance, the domestic car moves much better off-road.

Body repairs are much cheaper on the “twelfth”. The vast majority of car enthusiasts note that the VAZ-2112 is easier to repair. It’s also not difficult to find spare parts for the Nexia, but it’s unknown how the situation will turn out in the next couple of years.

Interior and luggage compartment

The Nexia looks as dated on the inside as it does on the outside. The basic equipment is extremely simple, although in the top versions you can find knobs for climate control equipment, monochrome watches and some other signs of the high cost of that time.

But the finishing materials are frankly low quality. The plastic is oak, the upholstery materials are cheap. The build is well below average. Numerous gaps and cracks are normal for this machine. The front seats lack even a hint of lateral support, and adjustments are minimal. The rear sofa is designed for 2 people. There is minimal space in the legs. For the C-class, this is a frankly weak result.

The trunk of the Daewoo Nexia holds 530 liters. The back of the rear sofa cannot be lowered; there is no hatch for long items.

The VAZ-2110 failed to surpass its competitor internally. Outdated dashboard, surprisingly huge steering wheel. There is an analog clock, the panel is slightly turned towards the driver. VAZ 2114

Assembled by AvtoVAZ, the five-door hatchback from the Lada Samara-2 family was produced in 2001-2013. The car is a modernized version of the VAZ 2109 model.

The transformations affected the front part of the body, namely: they installed original headlights, changed the shape of the front fenders and hood, and installed moldings on the sides of the body. Changes have been made to improve aerodynamics. The interior of the cabin was refreshed with a modern “Euro” dashboard.

The transmission is a similar 5-speed manual. Starting from zero to a hundred takes 12-13.5 seconds. at a maximum speed of 170 to 180 km/h. Average fuel consumption is 7.4 liters per 100 km.

The choice of engines for Daewoo Nexia was much more modest. There are only 2 engines presented here.

  • The base engine on the 2nd generation Nexia had a volume of 1.5 liters. This is an 8-valve petrol engine with 80 horsepower and a torque of 123 Nm. With it, the car accelerates to hundreds in 12.5 seconds, with a top speed of 175 km/h. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 8.1 liters. per 100 km.
  • The top-end 1.6-liter engine already with a 16-valve timing belt produces 109 horses and 150 Nm. The car can accelerate to hundreds in 11 seconds. according to the passport, and the maximum speed reaches 185 km/h. At 100 km. the route requires 8.9 liters of fuel in the combined cycle.

Here it is worth noting that Daewoo Nexia has a slight advantage. The car turned out to be more dynamic, although the rated fuel consumption figures are slightly higher than those of the VAZ-2110.

But keep in mind that these are only stated characteristics. Real performance in Russian operating conditions was worse. Add to this the wear and tear of used cars, and the parameters become even more modest.

The 10 is a little more economical and is not inferior in acceleration and maximum speed. If for someone this is a decisive factor when buying a car, then making a choice will not be difficult.

Appearance

When considering which car to choose, Daewoo Nexia or VAZ 2112, they also pay attention to the exterior, which is not the least important among the qualities of the car. You shouldn’t expect unusual design solutions in implementing the appearance of budget cars; both models are made quite modestly, while the Daewoo Nexia looks more interesting. In the process of modernization, the car acquired individuality, and due to changes in appearance, aerodynamic performance also improved. In general, the sedan has calm features, straight lines and looks restrained, without unnecessary pathos in the form of additional exterior elements. The car looks stylish and modern; the head optics, large taillights, and fog lights built into the front bumper add expressiveness to the appearance.


VAZ 2112

The domestic car VAZ 2112 looks noticeably more modest. The design of the Lada has also undergone changes, but the exterior of the car cannot be called impressive, while many people like the model for the potential it provides for tuning. In addition to modifications of the hatchback body with 5 doors, in small series from 2002 to 2006, the car was also produced in a 3-door body version (VAZ-21123 “LADA 112 Coupe”). However, the prefix “coupe” to the name in this case is only a marketing ploy and emphasizes the sporty orientation of the car, and does not reflect a number of technical solutions used in the sale of the car, although the body of this model variation is stiffer, which allows the car to feel more confident on Russian roads.

Security and Manageability

Both vehicles have not been tested by Euro NCAP or IIHS. Therefore, it is difficult to assess safety.

But objectively, these cars are far from ideal in terms of protecting the driver and passengers. Airbags are a luxury, as are full power windows, a good radio, air conditioning and other familiar components of a modern car.

Handling is slightly better in the ten. The car behaves well on bad roads and stays confidently on the road at a speed of about 130 kilometers per hour. Nexia becomes unstable already at 120 km/h. The roll is well felt in both cases when entering a turn. The absence of a hydraulic booster in the basic configurations affects the sensations. Driving for a long time is tiring.

If we compare the behavior of cars on domestic roads, the VAZ-2110 will have a slight advantage. The car is better adapted to poor surfaces and harsh weather, and has greater ground clearance.

There was no clear hierarchy of equipment for the VAZ-2110. Daewoo Nexia was offered in 3 trim levels before production ceased. These are Classic, Basic and Luxury.

Making a choice in such a situation is quite difficult. Nexia 2 generations are newer than ten, and therefore, in theory, have better technical condition. But the VAZ-2110 turned out to be surprisingly tenacious. Production stopped long ago, but the cars continue to confidently roam the roads.

The 10 is more accessible to maintain, more economical, and offers many spare parts for pennies. Nexia will be more expensive to maintain and operate. But what to choose in the end, each buyer decides for himself.

I think the year is 2002, I don’t remember exactly, the engine is 8-valve, the equipment is complete. Sold for approximately 110 -120 thousand rubles. They put it up for 125. The body is far from in the best condition and is rotten and has a very poorly made side. 2 doors are crooked and painted haphazardly, they didn’t even match the color. This was about 3 years ago.
