The device has become popular in recent years. Now even non-smoking car owners use the cigarette lighter. Indeed, in addition to its nominal purpose, the device performs a lot of functions. For example, various devices are connected to the cigarette lighter socket:
- power bank for mobile phones or tablets;
- charging for laptop and electronics;
- DVR;
- navigation system;
- electric pump that inflates the wheels.
When used correctly, the device works for a long time, but due to certain features it may fail. Read on to find out why the breakdown occurs, how to recognize the cause of the malfunction, replace the cigarette lighter or repair it on the Lada Granta model.
Connection diagram
Connecting the cigarette lighter is not difficult. The device is connected to the on-board network with only three wires.
- Black wire - the ground of the car is connected to the cigarette lighter body.
- Red wire – power is attached to a terminal at the end of the housing. This threaded clamp also serves as a fastening for the heater retainer, so power is supplied to it as well.
- Yellow wire – power supply for instrument lighting is connected to the lamp socket. Ground, which is supplied through its contact with the cigarette lighter body.
What does the automaker recommend?
In the operating manual of most modern cars you will find recommendations to use the cigarette lighter only for its intended purpose. No car manufacturer recommends using on-board sockets to connect external devices to the network. For example, such a connector should not be used to power a navigator, recorder, heaters, and so on. Such an extra load leads to rapid failure of the on-board network, short circuits and even fires in the wiring may occur.
Today in car dealerships you can find various plugs for powering external devices from the cigarette lighter socket. Despite all the assurances from sellers and manufacturers of such accessories, it will be impossible to ensure their complete safety. Such external interference and the use of electricity from the car's network is not only unsafe, but can also damage the battery and destroy the generator. Cars are not designed to withstand such an external load, and the consequences of such incorrect intervention will be sad.
Design and operation
The cigarette lighter in a car consists of a chrome-plated metal body, a heating element with a coil of high resistivity material (nichrome or similar), a plastic push-button handle, and a coil spring inside the housing. The cigarette lighter socket is a steel cup with a bimetallic heater retainer on the end wall of the housing inside. The common wire of the car's electrical equipment (ground) is connected to the body of the cigarette lighter socket, and the power (+) is connected to the heater retainer. To illuminate the cigarette lighter socket in low light conditions, a light guide made of transparent greenish plastic is installed on the body, onto which a socket with a small light bulb is attached. One of its contacts is connected to the socket body, and the other to the wire that supplies power to the instrument lighting.
The cigarette lighter works as follows. One end of the heater spiral inserted into the socket is in contact with ground through the cigarette lighter body. When you press the handle-button, the heater is fixed with a bimetallic latch, to which at this moment the other end of the spiral is connected. The current flowing through the nichrome wire heats it up. This also heats up the bimetallic clamp, which, when a certain temperature is reached, straightens and ceases to hold the heater. Then the cigarette lighter button, under the action of a spring, breaks the electrical circuit of the heater with a characteristic click and jumps out.
Electrical appliance protection
The electrical wiring is protected from a short circuit in the cigarette lighter by a fuse link in the fuse box. It is denoted by CIG, cigar, or a pictogram depicting a smoking cigarette. The rating of this fuse is most often 15 A.
The device is protected from fire by a low-melting metal washer installed under the nut securing the power terminal. The principle of operation of this protection is as follows. When the nichrome spiral is overheated for a long time, the end of the socket body heats up to the melting point of the protective washer. Melting, the washer flows down and connects the power terminal to the body of the device connected to the common wire of the electrical equipment. As a result of this short circuit, the fuse-link burns out, the cigarette lighter is de-energized, and heating stops.
Common reasons for refusal
The reason why your cigarette lighter is not working may be due to the following faults:
- The fuse has blown.
- Broken filament coil.
- Fire protection activated. With this malfunction, the new fuse fails during installation. Triggering of fire protection often occurs due to accidental pressing and prolonged holding of the cigarette lighter button. What can happen, for example, when you try to reach an object that has fallen on the floor and rolled under the seat.
- Corrosion of power terminals and cigarette lighter ground.
Fuse problem
A blown protective component (fuse) is the main reason why a car cigarette lighter stops working. The electrical network must have a current of 15 A. In the event of a short circuit or the connection of powerful electrical appliances, the fuses will blow. To eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to change the protective element and remove the excess load, otherwise it will burn out again.
Where is
For the Granta Liftback 2022, the fuses are located near the driver’s left foot.
To change the protective element, first remove the plastic cover of the unit, which is held in place by steel clips.
On the inner surface of the protective cover there is a diagram, the number of all fuses with information about what each of them is responsible for.
Which one can I put in place?
The new fuse is selected with a rating of 15 A. If you install a product with high resistance, problems will arise. For example, if a current flows through an electrical circuit exceeding the permissible value, the wires will melt. And this contributes to cable fires, short circuits, and, accordingly, burnout of protective components.
Cigarette lighter repair
To successfully troubleshoot the problem, you first need to determine why the cigarette lighter does not work. To do this, remove it from the socket and use a test light to check whether there is electrical power on the heater latch and whether there is ground on the body. It is better to do this with a control unit, because, unlike a voltmeter, it consumes current. Therefore, in the case of oxidized contacts, it will glow only at full intensity or will not light up at all. The voltmeter readings in this case will not differ from those taken from a working device, since in the absence of current there will be no voltage drop across the resistances of the oxidized contacts. Below we describe several variants of the results of this test.
How to properly remove the cigarette lighter on a Lada Granta
The presented photo report will show how to remove the cigarette lighter on a Lada Granta in order to replace or repair it. You will also find out why the cigarette lighter fails.
Why does the cigarette lighter on the Lada Grant fail?
One of the main reasons for the failure of the Lada Grant's cigarette lighter is a short circuit, which can occur as a result of a malfunction in the vehicle's on-board network or due to wear of internal elements. Also, removing the cigarette lighter on a Grant is also necessary to replace a burnt-out diode (light bulb) for lighting the socket.

How to remove the cigarette lighter on a Grant
First of all, as when working with any component of a car's electrical equipment, you need to turn off the power to the battery and only then begin to remove the cigarette lighter. Carefully bend the edges so that the plastic protrusions do not interfere, and release the metal cylinder. Then you need to remove the center console of the torpedo.

After that, use a screwdriver to press the upper latch on the green plastic case and try to pull the base of the cigarette lighter out a little. Now you need to try to disconnect the connector and completely pull out the cigarette lighter Grants.
Design and purpose of the cigarette lighter
The device is designed simply:
- metal cartridge with a nichrome spiral;
- button;
- plastic handle.
There is a special socket on the dashboard into which the cigarette lighter is inserted. When you press the handle, the device connects to the vehicle's on-board network. A current passes through the nichrome spiral and it heats up. As soon as the temperature reaches its maximum, the thermostat is activated, a click occurs, and the cigarette lighter returns to its original position.
In the first car models, the device was used directly for lighting cigarettes, but with the development of technology its use has expanded significantly. Currently, all external electronic devices are connected through it: vacuum cleaners, navigators, chargers, radar detectors, mobile phones.
Typical faults
The reasons why the cigarette lighter does not work can be different. One of them is a blown fuse. It may burn out due to connected devices, such as a compressor or splitter. To eliminate the problem, you need to open the mounting block, remove the burnt fuse and insert a new one. A regular 15 or 20 Amp fuse will do.
The second no less popular malfunction is the antenna contacts that are bent inside the device. If you use the charger frequently, the metal tendrils will unbend over time. To return the device to functionality, the antennae should be slightly bent using a flat-head screwdriver (video author: Andrei Che).
Repair and replacement instructions
If the reason is not the fuse and the antenna, then the device may not work. In this case, it needs to be replaced. Replacement is complicated by dismantling the plastic floor tunnel.
The replacement procedure for the Lada Kalan and Lada Granta Liftback is similar and consists of a sequence of actions:
- First of all, you need to remove the battery terminal.
- Then unscrew the three mounting bolts that hold the plastic handbrake lining.
- Next you need to unscrew the handbrake switch.
- At the back of the tunnel there is a self-tapping screw, which we unscrew in the next step.
- Then we unscrew the fastenings of the floor tunnel from the side.
- Next, remove the cover from the gear shift knob.
- Now you can lift the tunnel and begin replacing the cigarette lighter.
- Before replacing, you must disconnect the power.
- Next, press the latches that hold the cigarette lighter, and you can remove it.
- We insert a new part and perform the reverse assembly steps.
Replacing a broken cigarette lighter is simple; any car enthusiast can handle this procedure.

If the cigarette lighter does not work, there may be several reasons for the problem. Read below about why the cigarette lighter does not work, how to remove it and how to change the device.
We act in the salon
- The fuse box is located on the left side of the instrument panel. Remove the cover with the outdoor lighting mode switch integrated into it. If the work is carried out on the LADA Granta “Lux” and “Norma” modifications, then do not forget about the need to disable the button used to unlock the trunk lock.
- Armed with the diagram, we determine whether the cigarette lighter fuse or the fuel pump fuse has become unusable, and so on. We look at the integrity of the thread and draw the appropriate conclusion. If the element is unfit, then we replace it with a new analogue by fixing it in the mounting socket. We repeat this action with the entire list of blown fuses.
- We connect the “minus” back to the battery and check the functioning of the electrical unit in which the fuse was replaced.
The process of replacing the specified elements, which contain the fuse block, of the engine compartment of the Lada Granta is implemented in a similar way. The cover on the safety module is removed using a simple action - just pull it up and quietly replace the marked elements.

The principle of operation of the cigarette lighter
A cigarette lighter is a special heating element that is often connected to the car battery. If this is so, then the device will work even if the ignition switch is simply turned on. In addition to its direct purpose, the plug is used as a charger for a mobile phone and other gadgets. Due to the fact that a splitter is often connected to it, this ensures simultaneous charging of several devices at once, including the DVR.

-correct operation of the injector;
- spark ignition unit;
- supply of windshield cleaning fluid;
-electric lock in the trunk;
Typical malfunctions of the device
If the cigarette lighter stops working, there may be several reasons:
- fuse burned out;
- the filament has broken;
- fire protection has activated;
- corrosion of power terminals and device ground;
- The device used to lock, but now the button does not lock.

How to replace the horn on a Lada Granta?
The performance of key components and mechanisms in your car is the basis for its safe operation. Such important devices installed on board domestic vehicles include a sound signal.
The Volzhsky auto industry, releasing new models of its cars, equips them with standard signaling devices of type 20.3721. Similar signals are also installed on the Lada Granta. But due to its low sound quality and frequent breakdowns (especially after moisture), many car enthusiasts strive to install a higher quality and “melodic” signal on the Grant.
As an alternative, Volga signals on Granta are especially popular, tested by time and the experience of many drivers. The signal from the Volga actually sounds louder and is more reliable in operation, but replacing the standard signal with a Volga signal requires the driver to have some knowledge of electrical equipment. If you follow the rules for installing electrical wiring, the installation of signals from the Volga to Grant will be done quickly and as correctly as possible.

Tips for motorists
The main problems associated with the failure of the cigarette lighter on a Lada Granta passenger car are that most inexperienced drivers begin to use the cigarette lighter socket not for its intended purpose, but as an outlet for connecting various additional devices that require on-board power supply of 12 volts. At the same time, these drivers do not have basic knowledge about the safe use of the cigarette lighter socket.
Firstly, Lada Granta drivers should know that the electrical circuit of the cigarette lighter, as well as the sound alarm set, trunk lock and gearbox is protected by fuse F20 (15A, blue), located in the mounting block in the front panel of the cabin to the left of the steering column. This means that the total power of consumers powered through this fuse should not exceed 180 watts (15A x 12V = 180W).
Therefore, the driver should ask what the power consumption of the device he wants to connect to the cigarette lighter socket is. If this power is more than 180 watts (for example, a compressor for inflating tires), then when it is connected to the cigarette lighter socket, the current in the circuit will be more than 15 amperes and fuse F20 will blow. Instead of a blown fuse, it is impossible to install another one, but one designed for a higher current strength, as this can lead to strong heating of the wires, melting of the insulation and a fire.
Secondly, Lada Granta drivers need to know that in the automotive industry there is no single standard for the size of the cigarette lighter socket, either in diameter or in depth. Therefore, the plugs of additional devices will also differ in size. If your accessory that you want to connect to the cigarette lighter socket has a plug that is slightly smaller in diameter, this will usually result in a short circuit in the cigarette lighter socket and blown fuse F20.
This is due to the design of the cigarette lighter socket, where the positive and negative contacts in one place are located very close to each other and an incorrectly inserted plug of a smaller diameter, standing askew in the socket with its side contact, closes the contacts of the cigarette lighter socket, resulting in a short circuit. Therefore, before purchasing an additional device, you need to make sure that its plug fits tightly into the cigarette lighter socket.

Video “Fixture Repair”
Cigarette lighter repair is covered in detail in the video from the author Alexander Zagorny.
Poor performance of any piece of electrical equipment in a car should cause some concern and careful examination of all parts of this important unit in your car. If the cigarette lighter in your car does not work, you need to check the main wires, connections and equipment that are associated with this element. Often the cause of such a breakdown is the direct combustion of the cigarette lighter head itself.
This element of the automotive electrical system today is used not so much for lighting cigarettes, but for charging phones, connecting GPS navigators, recorders and other devices. The cigarette lighter is a full-fledged car socket if you have an adapter to connect your devices. Therefore, its normal operation must be ensured.

The main causes of cigarette lighter failure and their solutions
If the immediate first function of this device is important to you, try replacing the cigarette lighter head. This is the first and simplest action that should be performed in this situation. With intensive use, the heating coil burns out and stops performing its tasks. But this process should be carried out carefully - buy only the head that fits your car model.
If this process does not help, you should look for the cause of the problem directly in the electrical network that connects the cigarette lighter. To do this, you need to check all connections and make sure there are no burnt wires or connections. The main factors that are worth checking in this aspect are the following:
- the functionality of the fuse that is responsible for the operation of the cigarette lighter;
- integrity of all electrical connections of the equipment itself, wires on the cigarette lighter body;
- absence of carbon deposits and foreign particles in the cigarette lighter socket and on the contacts;
- serviceability of the plug when connecting certain devices to the cigarette lighter;
- absence of overloads on this unit during its operation.
These tests will help you identify the faulty unit. The easiest check is related to the fuse box. Check your car's owner's manual to see which fuse controls the cigarette lighter. Then replace it with a known working element of the electrical system and check the operation of the device.
To check for oxidation of contacts or the presence of foreign objects in the socket, it is enough to visually examine the equipment, and if there are blockages, remove them using non-metallic objects. In all other cases, you will have to remove the cigarette lighter from its installation location and check the electrical connections.
Talk and show: how not to burn your car
What can and cannot be plugged into a car cigarette lighter socket? On-board 12 V sockets, a burnt-out Honda and precautions - this and not only in our educational material.
Several years ago, an intriguing story appeared on many TV channels: a lady’s Honda Civic burned down. They say, I started charging my mobile phone, and then there was smoke, a stench and a full guard... In general, an unpleasant story. But who is to blame?
The television people who rushed in for an interview were openly offended by us: our opinion disappointed them, and the expected scandalous sensation did not happen. Because, in our opinion, no Honda is obliged to be responsible for the behavior of a device unknown to it. Humanly speaking, of course, one can sympathize with the lady, but the obvious culprit of the fire was a charger of unknown origin. And car manufacturers, as a rule, prohibit plugging everything into a socket - and rightly so. Those who disagree with this can mentally put themselves in their place: would you allow it? That's it - it's better not to...
In that story, the court sided with the car dealer’s representatives and rejected the claim. The reason was “violation of vehicle operating rules.” Arguments like “Everyone does this” don’t count: you have to answer for yourself personally.
Plugs of various devices - find two identical ones... And if you take into account that the sockets are also far from identical, it is clear why the possibility of a bad contact is not at all far-fetched. And why, by the way, do car manufacturers prohibit using just anything in their cars?
Plugs of various devices - find two identical ones... And if you take into account that the sockets are also far from identical, it is clear why the possibility of a bad contact is not at all far-fetched. And why, by the way, do car manufacturers prohibit using just anything in their cars?
What can you plug into a car socket anyway? Unfortunately, there is no clear distinction between what can be done and what cannot be done. We conducted research on this topic, but the results were not clear. Some car manufacturers only allow the use of devices with their own brand on the label, others nod to mandatory compliance with the requirements of a certain SAE standard (and which car owner has seen it?), others categorically prohibit the use of the cigarette lighter socket for any unauthorized consumers, others stipulate the maximum current consumption...
It is necessary to distinguish the cigarette lighter socket from the on-board socket. Historically, the cigarette lighter appeared earlier - almost a hundred years ago. On the same Zhiguli, for example, there were no sockets - however, there were no gadgets for sale in those days either. Today we are actively fighting smoking, and therefore cigarette lighters are becoming a thing of history. But there are several sockets in a car.
At the same time, a lot of problems are caused by discrepancies in the designs and sizes of both the sockets themselves and the plugs. In particular, in a regular socket there is no bimetallic spring-grip for the cigarette lighter. In practice, many plugs like to jump out of their socket or, worse, make bad contact.
Manufacturers of gadgets use different plugs - it was this circumstance that, in our opinion, was the cause of the car fire mentioned above.
Fan heaters of different types. The power of the models shown is from 150 to 200 W. The actual current reaches 15 A - this is a lot. In case of poor contact, local heating is guaranteed. In addition, such devices are usually forgotten to be turned off, since they are intended for long-term use. And taking into account the fact that the real benefits of such heaters are ridiculous, it is better not to use them unless absolutely necessary. However, as for the benefits, this is my personal opinion.

Why didn't the fuse blow on that car? By the way, usually its nominal value is 15 A, less often - 10 A (in Zhiguli they used 16 A). Now imagine what happens if for some reason the device consumes a similar current for a long time, and the contact “sparks”.
Solid power begins to dissipate in the outlet, which quickly heats up and... well, the rest becomes clear. If there is thermoplastic around that is afraid of heating, then exactly what happened to the lady will happen. The fire was not a fire, but the torpedo melted.
In this case, the current can remain within the tolerance limits - this is not a short circuit! On my own behalf, I’ll add that in practice, fuses can often easily withstand increased current: this is not good, but - that is what it is...
Even if the likelihood of a fire is low, you should never provoke it. And we do this often. Below are the advice of a man who once survived a full-fledged fire, losing... Okay, I don’t want to remember.
Dismantling and repairing the electrical connection of the cigarette lighter
If none of the above works, you will have to remove the cigarette lighter socket itself and look at the integrity of the electrical connections. This task must be performed with the utmost care so as not to damage the delicate contacts and also not to spoil the visual appearance of the socket. Often this item is chrome plated, making it difficult to remove.
Each car has its own characteristics of disassembling this unit. If you can reach the back side of the panel and push the socket from the inside, this dismantling option will be the easiest. Otherwise you will have to do the following:
- find a tool with rubberized tips - these can be special pliers;
- if you don’t have such a tool, use regular pliers, but place a soft cloth under the tool;
- pull the different edges of the cigarette lighter one by one and slowly pull it out of the installation location;
- you should not put too much effort, because you can damage the plastic elements of the panel and ruin the appearance of the metal;
- After dismantling, provide a high stand under the cigarette lighter socket so that it does not hang on thin wires.
This will help you remove the device socket safely and without damage and gain direct access to the wires. If you have reached this stage, then most likely you will find one sealed or burnt wire on the case. It needs to be soldered in place to ensure proper operation of the equipment.
If you find a burnt wire, you will have to work hard. In such a situation, the easiest way out is to contact automotive electrical specialists and get the necessary services from them. This will help eliminate the hassle of digging through electrical wiring and will give you the desired results of your cigarette lighter working well.
If you are missing one cigarette lighter, you can install another socket, as the hero of the following video did:
How to fix a broken horn
1. Purchase the necessary tools. To fix the signal on your car you will need the following: - a digital multimeter or a regular multimeter, protective gloves, a quick-release connection, a repair manual for your car, safety glasses, crimping pliers and wire strippers (can be replaced with a regular knife), and of course spare ones wires.
2. Locate the fuse box. First of all, you need to check whether the fuse or the relay itself has failed. The location of the fuses and their diagram can be found in the user manual. Typically, one fuse box is located in the dashboard on the driver's side and another one is located under the hood of the car.
Tip: -if you don’t have a car manual at hand, you can enter the model and year of your car in an online search, and then find circuit diagrams and manuals for fixing the signal on the Internet. There is a high probability that you will find what you are looking for there.
3. Finding the right fuse. Examine the diagram on the back of the fuse box and find the fuse number that matches the horn circuit.
Tip: -this information is duplicated in the manual for your car, in it you can look and find a diagram for each of the fuse blocks.
4. Remove the fuse. Once you have identified the fuse in the circuit you are interested in, pull it out with the special plastic pliers you will find in the fuse box. If they are not in their rightful place, then call on your ingenuity to help you. But be very careful not to break the connectors.
5. Check the fuse. In order to identify a breakdown, whether the problem is really in the fuse, you will need to check that it is working; perhaps it has simply blown. This can be done in two ways, for example, if a break is visible inside the U-shaped wire, then the fuse itself needs to be replaced, it naturally burned out. If the wiring inside it is intact, this is not a guarantee that everything is in order with the fuse. Thus, we move on to the second stage of verification.
6. Check the fuse using a multimeter. Test the fuse with a multimeter.
When using a digital multimeter, you must use the device’s adjustment knob to select the position for measuring the minimum resistance value with a sound signal (if your multimeter has such a setting).
When measuring with an analog (arrow) tester, it is necessary to select the starting position for measuring the minimum resistance value in Ohms. Then you need to calibrate the device by connecting the probes to each other and then, using the adjustment knob, move the arrow to the zero position, that is, set it to zero.
We press the probes to the fuse contacts. For a working fuse, the tester should show zero ohms. Conversely, if the needle or DMM readings do not change, the resistance is excessively high, then the fuse has blown.
7. Install a new fuse. If the fuse fails, then install a new one of the same current rating (10, 20, 25, 30 Amperes, etc.). To do this, simply insert the new fuse back into the appropriate slot.
Note: -Keep in mind that fuses do not blow out for no reason, they fail at the moment and in order to protect the circuit itself from excessive current. Watch the newly installed fuse for a moment. If it burns out again, you will need to check the circuit for faults.
8. Locate the relay box. If the fuse is good, the next part of the test we move on to is the horn relay. The location of this relay can also be found in the owner's manual. Typically, the relays are installed in the fuse box under the hood.
9. Check the relay. The simplest and at the same time effective way to check the correct operation of the relay is to take and swap the horn relay with another identical relay in the car. As a rule, “relays” of the same design can be used on a couple of other circuits, which, if necessary, allows you to replace them in the machine. If, after replacing the relay, the horn (sound signal) starts working, we can state the fact that the problem was in the relay and it should simply be replaced.
Let's sum it up
All processes for restoring the operation of the cigarette lighter socket are performed independently. Only if one of the wires connecting the equipment is burned out, you will have to contact specialists with a request to replace this wire. In all other situations, it is enough to use your own strength and quickly fix the problem using a soldering iron or simply replacing the fuse or cigarette lighter head.
If your car has non-working electrical equipment, it is worth finding out the causes of the breakdown and eliminating them. This will increase the operating comfort of the vehicle and make the machine safe to use. Have you ever had problems with your cigarette lighter?
Methods for troubleshooting
If the horn circuit is broken and the horn stops working, then there are several options for solving the problem:
- First you need to diagnose the safety device. If this part is burnt out, then you just need to replace it with a new one; the device is located in the mounting block. The replacement process will not take much time; any car enthusiast can cope with this task. If replacing the fuse gave results, but after some time the horn stopped working again, then most likely the reason lies in voltage surges in the on-board network. Overload contributes to accelerated burnout of the fuse element, so you will have to look for the source of the load and solve the problem. To do this, use a multimeter or seek help from an electrician.
- If the horn itself malfunctions, the device must be replaced. If diagnostics by direct connection to the battery do not produce results, then most likely the reason lies in the device itself, which needs to be changed.
- Short circuit. To diagnose, you will need a multimeter and a little experience. Using a tester, you can find a short circuit, but if you have never encountered such a problem before, it is better to seek help from specialists.
- If the clamping contacts or slip ring are worn out, then the failed elements must be replaced. It is not a fact that you will be able to buy new contacts or a ring, so most likely you will have to change the horn assembly.
- Another reason why the horn does not work is oxidation of the internal contacts. Over time, as mentioned above, dirt and deposits accumulate on them, which leads to the obstruction of sound. You can try to disassemble the steering wheel of the car, then clean the internal contacts and assemble the steering wheel (the author of the video is the channel Alexander Amochkin Kolomna AAK).
If you are faced with the problem of a non-working horn, then you will probably be wondering how to replace it:
First of all, you need to remove the steering wheel. To do this, remove the trim and unscrew the bolts that secure the steering wheel. After the steering wheel is removed, you can clean the contact tracks, perhaps this will help solve the problem
Make sure that the wire contacts in the column are as clean as possible. Unscrew the two screws located under the plastic cover. After dismantling the cover, you will be able to see the contact plate; there is a possibility that the problem lies there.
Clean the contacts and check the signal functionality. If the horn does not work, then using a 24mm wrench you will need to unscrew the nut, but you do not need to unscrew it all the way. Next, the steering wheel itself must be pulled towards you; this will require some effort. You can try to move the wheel by tapping it from different sides. When you feel that the steering wheel has given way, the nut is unscrewed completely. After dismantling the steering wheel, we proceed to removing the horn. There is a module located under the radiator grille; it must be removed; to do this, unscrew the nut to 13 and disconnect the connector. Install a new one, replace the steering wheel and check the operation of the horn.
Which cigarette lighter should I replace the burned out one?
There are many different options available on the market. When choosing, you need to pay attention to how much the Lada Granta cigarette lighter costs. A price that is too low indicates that low-quality materials were used in the production process; such a device will not work for a long time. The normal cost of the device is 600 – 1200 rubles.
You can buy a short European cigarette lighter. There are no uniform size standards for parts. Therefore, they will differ in length or diameter. You must select a plug of the appropriate size. If the diameter does not match, the device will short out, which can lead to a fire.
Features of the first mounting block
Once you know where the blocks are, you can talk about their features. Another significant difference between the Lada Grant and representatives of previous generations is its numerical composition. Now it is equal to 32 units. For a detailed understanding, you will need to carefully familiarize yourself with the block diagram. For example, fuse F1 has a function to protect the circuits of such current collectors:
- ignition coils;
- nozzles;
- motor and fan control unit.
Element F2 is responsible for the safety of the electrical power window mechanism circuits.
F3 and F4 respectively “monitor” the safety of circuits belonging to:
- hazard warning lights and windshield wipers;
- airbag.
Elements F9 and F10 are “entrusted” with controlling the wiring to the side lights.
It is important to remember that each safety element has a current limit that it can withstand.
- F8, “standing guard” of the rear window heating circuit, is designed for a maximum of 30 Amps;
- F6, which controls the operation of the reversing light, can only withstand 7.5 A.
It is easy to guess that these values of this parameter are directly dependent on the required electrical consumption of a particular pantograph.
To familiarize yourself in detail with the circuits and the fuses that protect them, it is recommended to resort to the diagram (Fig. 3).

Where is the cigarette lighter fuse located?
A common reason why a device stops working is a burnt-out protective element. The current strength in the circuit itself is precisely fixed, and its value should not exceed 15 amperes. When connecting powerful devices or a short circuit, the fuse blows, causing the VAZ cigarette lighter to stop working.
The fact that this particular element needs to be changed will be indicated by indirect reasons. The fuse is responsible for:
- sound signal;
- trunk lock;
- immobilizer, this means that if it fails, the owner will not start the car.
To change a non-working cigarette lighter fuse, you need to get to the mounting block. It is located in the cabin under the decorative panel, to the left of the steering column. The cigarette lighter fuse is held in place by five plastic clips.
- We disconnect them and get to the rear space.
- We take out the plug that attaches to the luggage compartment opening button. Now you can completely remove the panel.
- We gain access to the mounting block, where tweezers are also located, allowing you to quickly pull out the protective elements.
The Lada Granta model has two versions of the fuse box - old and new. If the car is from the first years of production, then you will need to replace the element number F20. The mounting block diagram of newer models of the cigarette lighter fuse differs from its predecessor. Here you should change element F27. The fuse must be rated 15 amps. When installing a protective element with high resistance, problems may arise. If the current in the circuit exceeds the maximum permissible value, the cables will melt, which can result in a short circuit or fire in the wiring and a blown fuse.
Reasons for failure of the cigarette lighter on the Lada Grant
A malfunction can occur due to various circumstances. Among the most common reasons why the cigarette lighter on a Lada Granta car does not work are:
- Blown fuse. This happens due to connecting a large number of devices to the connector. The total power of connected devices should not exceed 180 Watts (15*12=180). Otherwise the cigarette lighter fuse will blow. AvtoVAZ models have different protective elements (Granta - F20/F27, Kalina - F18, Priora - F13). The fuse rating must correspond to the value specified by the manufacturer.
- Poor contact. Over time, oxides or rust develop on the tendrils of the metal cartridge, resulting in a poor connection. To correct the situation, it is enough to remove the cigarette lighter, inspect the condition of its contacts, and treat them with a file to remove rust or oxides.
- Broken wiring. Three wires come to the device, the soldering of which disappears over time. To identify the malfunction, you will need a multitester.
How to replace fuses or relays
Before you remove a device that has become unusable, you need to turn off the power to the car.
To do this, disconnect the wire connected to the minus terminal from the battery. When making a replacement, it is important to remember the following:
- on the reverse side of the protective cover there is a diagram of the location of the fuses;
- if the device you need is located on the edge, then it is easy to remove it by hand;
- in other cases, use either pliers or special forceps;
- A blown fuse is visible to the naked eye.
The instrument panel trim is held in place by six clips. To remove it, you need to pull the bottom edge towards you.
- guided by the diagram on its back side, we find the required fuse or a relay that has become unusable;
- remove it with tweezers;
- insert a new one.
In some cases, when the fuse link remains intact, it is necessary to inspect the socket itself. It is impossible to identify such a problem externally, so they use a tester switched to Ohms.
