The trunk of the VAZ 2115 may have a problem with the lid not holding on. The lid is held in place by two torsion bars. However, over time they fail and will hit painfully if this problem is not corrected. There are several ways to solve this.

First, you can buy and install new torsion bars. They are not very expensive, but they are not so easy to install. You need to remove the back seat, take out the shelf and place a stick under the trunk lid - it’s easier to install it on an open trunk. It is important to install carefully so as not to break the rear glass.

Secondly, you can buy two clutch springs for the classics and make two metal strips that will be attached to the screws securing the trunk trim. We will strengthen the springs behind them. It is more convenient to install springs that are attached to the body.

Third, you can buy a gas shock absorber for the trunk of a VAZ 2108 and attach it to the trunk hinge on one side and to the body on the other. However, the lid will close tightly if two shock absorbers are installed. With one shock absorber, the trunk will warp and the hinges will fail.

Fourth, you need to drill a hole where the shelf is attached and the seat is latched. There we fix one end of the stop. Then you need to clean the welding areas. The second is installed in welded rectangles to the trunk lid levers. After welding, you need to putty and paint. The trunk will open from a button in the cabin.

Dismantling the old castle

Before replacing, you will have to dismantle the old closing mechanism, and this is not so easy.

The VAZ 2114 model will be taken as an example.

The following tools will be useful in your work:

  • set of Phillips screwdrivers;
  • key to 8.

The replacement sequence is as follows:

  1. First of all, in order not to damage the interior lining of the trunk, we remove ten plastic fasteners, and then the plastic casing from the lock.
  2. We remove the casing, then unscrew the nut that secures the lock in place.
  3. Unscrew the wires that are in the way.
  4. Next, you need to unscrew the right fastening nut and remove the inner part of the lock from the fastenings.
  5. You can inspect the integrity of the spring and core. If these parts are defective, then the problem is in the mechanism. In any case, everything will have to be changed.

If you prefer the economical option of replacing it with a new mechanical lock, then install it in the reverse order as described.

Adjusting torsion bars

Perhaps the problem can be solved by adjusting the torsion bars. To do this you need to remove the rear shelf. One side of the torsion bar is fixed in a certain position, and its left part is secured with a nut. The torsion bar on the right is released, the nut on the left is unscrewed and the part that secured the torsion bar is moved in the opposite direction. Then the nut is tightened and the torsion bar is returned to its previous state. Now everything is ready.

You can also remove the hole in the body from the bottom of the trunk rubber. Install one end of the shock absorber into the hole made, screw it on, unscrew the bolt that holds the trunk lid on one side and screw it together with the shock absorber.

In addition, you can modify the trunk itself. The plastic is glued with carpet and installed in the trunk, screwed using self-tapping screws; it is better to fill the screw-in points with anti-corrosion agent. Plywood is laid on the trunk floor, which can be cut to the desired shape. The carpet is attached to the plywood. You can also make a strap for the spare tire cover.

Buying shock absorbers

Even if only one gas-filled element has failed, it is better to change both shock absorbers. The fact is that when installing only one new unit, the difference in lifting force will be visible compared to a used shock absorber. As a result, misalignment may occur when lifting the door; as a rule, such repairs will only reduce the durability of each of the parts. Moreover, today in car dealerships there is a large selection of both original parts and cheap analogues.

When choosing between an original part and a Chinese analogue, each motorist is guided by his financial capabilities and preferences. It is more important not to make a mistake when choosing shock absorbers, otherwise the part may not fit into place or there will be difficulties closing the trunk.

Before purchasing, it is best to dismantle the failed unit and demonstrate it to the seller. Although most car dealerships make selections using computer programs. Therefore, the car owner must be ready to tell the seller the make, model, year of manufacture, and body type of his car. But even in this case, you should pay attention to the compliance of such technical parameters of shock absorbers as: • the magnitude of the lifting force in newtons;

The trunk lid no longer hits your head

All VAZ 2115 owners know that the trunk lid does not hold well in the open position, especially if the car is lowered.

Once, I installed a trunk rack from a VAZ-2112, but a gap appeared from it and the trunk became difficult to close. Later, I removed the rack and changed the trunk hinge, in which the eye was broken off; anyway, the torsions weakened over time, and I don’t know how to pull them up, and it’s dangerous, because... may fly into the glass or into the eye.

In general, I bought two clutch springs from VAZ “classics” (can be found in any auto store). Next, I opened the trunk and saw that there was a hole at the bottom of each hinge (from the factory), bent one end of the spring with pliers and inserted it into the trunk hinge (into the factory hole), and screwed the other end of the spring onto a standard bolt, which holds the trunk upholstery and is located closer everyone to the trunk hinge.

The result was pleasing, the gaps between the trunk lid and the rear lights remained the same, the trunk lid now stays in the open position and does not fall, the trunk closes without effort, there is no need to remove the torsions.

Occurrence of a problem

The new-fashioned body design of many VAZ models was the beginning of problems. In many cars, owners notice unpleasant noises and pops from the rear of the body. These loud noises occur when the car goes over bumps and the trunk door begins to knock. Most likely, this defect resulted from the fact that the car was tested in conditions suitable for travel - on a flat road surface. Under ideal conditions, it is difficult to notice that the locking plate or stem is not in the correct position. In addition, the gap usually appears only after driving on poor-quality surfaces due to vibration that occurs at the joints.

Another reason is wear of the closing mechanism. Because of this problem, the trunk of the VAZ 2114 opens while driving. The same situation occurs in other models. This happens because the locking tooth of the lock is either broken or almost completely worn out. It would seem that what’s wrong with this, because you can go and change the lock for a new one. But the problem will remain unless the approach to it is changed. The main locking mechanism must be replaced with a different type of device.

Radical approach

If you decide then:

You will be faced with the fact that instead of one cylinder you will have to change all 5 (doors + trunk), and after the repair you will have two keys.   1. We break the glass - when you damage the lock, but do not open the car, break the glass. It is necessary to break the rear door glass (preferably the right one). There are several reasons for this decision: firstly, a window sealed with tape will not spoil visibility, and secondly, if after breaking it turns out that the back door of the VAZ 2114 does not open, and you have to knock out all the glass to get through, you will have less wind later.
