In the life of car enthusiasts, in some cases there is a need to urgently drain gasoline from the tank. The essence of the problem is that if draining fuel from the tanks of old domestic cars and foreign cars does not cause difficulties, then, for example, in modern VAZ models with an injector, a special filter mesh located in the filler neck of the gas tank prevents draining gasoline. This mesh serves not only as a filter, but also as a good protection against thieves, preventing a hose from being inserted into the tank through the neck and draining gasoline.
Most often, the need to drain gasoline from the tank occurs in the following foreign cars and VAZ cars:
- Renault Logan, Ford Focus, Chevrolet Lanos and Niva;
- Lada: Granta, Kalina, Priora;
- VAZ: 2109, 2110, 2114 and 2115.

How to drain a VAZ 2114 injector?
In the 2114 model it can be found in the tank itself.
- To do this, you will need to find a hose that has a suitable diameter so that it can be placed on a special fuel rail fixture.
- After this, you will need to unscrew the nipple from the fitting, and then put on the hose and apply 12 V to the fuel pump.

If the car is fuel injected
It is absolutely impossible to completely empty the fuel system of an injection car using a hose. Therefore, in order to drain gasoline from an injection VAZ 2110, you will need to take a different route. First, you need to open the gas tank itself (neck), after which the algorithm of actions will be approximately as follows:
- find the tube located at the bottom of the engine that supplies fuel to the ramp;
- remove the clamp from it and disconnect it from the pipe;
- turn the ignition key;
- in the relay block, determine the one that is responsible for the fuel pump;
- after removing it, you need to bridge it, for which it is convenient to use a standard paper clip;
- turn on the car ignition;
- Drain the leaking fuel into a prepared container, then return the hoses and relays to their places.
Important! Using this method of releasing the fuel system, you should carefully monitor the leaking gasoline - as soon as it “bubbles”, the ignition should be turned off immediately, which will avoid damage to the pump.

Why drain gasoline?
You refueled with low-quality fuel and you need to replace it, or someone else ran out of gasoline and you need to share so that the person can get to the nearest gas station, refueling gas tools, repairing the fuel system... In general, there are a lot of options. Let's start with the simplest - the old-fashioned option. We drain the gasoline using a hose.
We will need a hose with a diameter of 10-15 mm (thinner is better), suitable from a Soviet pump. We insert the hose into the tank and carefully pull the gasoline into us (you can get drunk on gasoline with caution), or if you have a rope or cord, pull it through the hose and tie a knot at the end, the principle of the pump emerges. We insert the end of the hose with the knot (piston) into the tank and pull out the rope, gasoline begins to flow.
When you fill the container, simply pull the hose out of the tank. This option is not always suitable; often there is a mesh in the neck of the tank or it is simply impossible to insert the hose into the tank due to the design of the neck.
Many cars have a tank under the rear seat; after removing the seat, we will see a hatch and wires leading to it - this is a fuel level sensor or a fuel pump. We remove the fuel pump (in one step you can clean the fuel pump mesh and clean the contacts of the rheostat of the fuel level sensor) and drain the fuel using the method described above.
You can also disconnect the hose from the return of the fuel rail and put your hose on the return of the rail. Open the gas tank cap (so as not to create a vacuum), start the engine and in a couple of minutes the fuel pump will inflate the canister. Be careful with gasoline under pressure, fasten the hose responsibly.
Method 2. Drain gasoline through the fuel line and the plug at the bottom of the gas tank
If the fuel pump is located not in the tank itself, but near the engine, you can try to drain the fuel through the fuel line. Procedure:
- Unscrew the clamp and disconnect the hose going from the tank to the fuel pump.
- Place the hose into the fuel container.
Fuel will leak from the gas tank. The main thing is that the end of the fuel line, as well as the fuel container, is located below the gasoline level.

Some cars have gas tanks with drain plugs. If you are the owner of just such a car model, you need to use an overpass or inspection hole to drain the fuel. This is done simply:
- Place a container under the drain plug in the gas tank.
- Unscrew the plug.
- Drain the fuel (all or part of it).
- Tighten the plug.
However, plugs at the bottom of the tank are not very common. In this case, the fuel pump will help drain the gasoline. The method is suitable for old modern cars.

Many users of VAZ-2114 cars have a question about how to drain gasoline from the tank . Often this question arises at the moment when the car owner begins to repair his car, but there are other situations. For example, low-quality gasoline was poured, or the wrong fuel was filled, or fuel was transferred from one car to another.
Option three
This method will not completely get rid of gasoline in the tank, but in general it is much more effective than the previously described one.
Gasoline is removed directly from the vehicle interior. It will take quite a lot of time. It is also necessary to observe all precautions, because interaction with fuel in a very limited space is associated with a high risk of ignition. It is better to do this outdoors and it is important to ensure active ventilation of the interior. It is also necessary to de-energize the machine's electrical system to prevent an accidental spark. Be sure to have a fire extinguisher ready and ask a friend to back you up.
You need to do the following:
- remove the rear seat;
- disconnect the fuel pump terminals;
- remove it from the tank;
- remove fuel using a syringe or rubber bulb.
Some claim that they were able to drain the fuel using another electric pump, but this method is very dangerous because it requires connecting the power.
Those who believe that the correct and easiest option is to run out of gasoline until the power unit stops completely are also wrong. This approach greatly harms the pump. Sometimes it even burns out from running dry, and a new one costs about a thousand rubles.

Method 4. Drain through the neck with a pump.
There is another method of draining gasoline from the “fourteenth” tank. It requires skill and does not allow you to completely remove low-quality gasoline. To perform the operation, you will need a container for fuel, a hose of sufficient length and a pump. Instead of a pump, you can use a regular household vacuum cleaner. Algorithm of actions:
- Unscrew the cap and insert the hose into the tank.
- Check how much gasoline is in the tank. To do this, it is recommended to use a stick or insert a hose and then remove it. This will let you know the level.
- To pump out fuel, insert the hose as deeply as possible.
- Connect the hose to the pump or vacuum cleaner. You can use a pear. Some car enthusiasts try to suck out fuel with their mouths. It is not recommended to do this. This is very dangerous for your health! There is a high risk of accidentally ingesting gasoline, which can cause severe poisoning.
- Make sure that the hose is bent and looks like the letter S.
- Turn on the pump and turn it off abruptly.
- Direct the hose into a prepared container to drain the fuel. This must be done very quickly so as not to spill flammable liquid on the ground.
All methods presented in the article can effectively remove low-quality gasoline. But you should use the second method only when all the others, for one reason or another, turn out to be unavailable. And in order to have to drain fuel less often, you need to carefully select gas stations and use only large chain gas stations. There the risk of deception is much less. When setting off on a long journey, you should first check the location of such gas stations along the route.
Ways to drain gasoline from the tank of a foreign car
If your car has a mesh installed in the gas tank, and you can’t drain the gasoline with a hose, don’t worry. There are several other simple ways to drain fuel from the gas tank of a foreign car.
In any case, it is worth remembering that gasoline should only be drained from the tank in an open area, so as not to be poisoned by fuel vapors, which are very harmful to human health.
Many modern cars have a special drain hole at the bottom of the gas tank that allows you to completely drain all the fuel from the tank. You just need to find this hole, place a suitable container under it and, unscrewing the cap, pour gasoline into it.
This method is very simple, but not all cars have drain holes, and crawling under the car is not always convenient. Therefore, we will consider another option, how to drain gasoline from the tank of a foreign car.
In order to drain gasoline from the tank of a foreign car, you need to perform a few simple steps:
- Open the hood of your car;
- With the engine off, disconnect the fuel hose (coming from the fuel pump) at its connection to the engine.
- Place the freed end of the hose into a suitable container for draining gasoline from the tank (bottle, canister, etc.).
- Turn on the car's ignition, but DO NOT START the engine! In this case, the fuel pump will turn on for a few seconds and pump fuel. Thus, by turning the ignition on and off several times, you can drain a sufficient amount of gasoline from the fuel tank.
- After you have drained the required amount of gasoline, the fuel hose should be reconnected to the engine.
Keep in mind that it is better not to drain all the gasoline from the tank in this way, so as not to damage the fuel pump and not to choke the fuel system of the car.
By the way, on some injection engines of modern foreign cars and cars of the VAZ family, the manufacturer has provided a special fitting that allows you to drain gasoline from the tank without disconnecting the fuel hose from the injector (see the example in the video below).
Method 2. Using a fuel pump.
You can drain fuel from a VAZ 2114 (injector) without removing the gas tank using the car’s fuel pump. This method is much simpler, but more dangerous. There is a high probability of damage to the fuel pump. Work algorithm:
- Select a hose of such diameter that it can be put on the fuel rail.
- Unscrew the nipple installed in the fitting and put on the hose.
- Ensure that the fuel pump receives 12 V.
- Pour the liquid into a container prepared in advance.
This method should be used as a last resort, as it is unsafe for the car’s fuel system. In addition, it will not allow all the fuel to be completely drained from the tank.
Second option
It involves the use of a fuel pump installed in the VAZ-2114 directly in the tank. The disadvantage of this method is the risk of damaging the above-mentioned unit responsible for pumping gasoline.
Draining this way is quick. Here you will need to perform the following procedure:
- find a fitting on the fuel rail designed to reduce pressure;
- unscrew the nipple from it;
- put on a hose of suitable diameter;
- power the pump with 12 Volts;
- drain the gasoline into a canister or other suitable container.
This option, as noted earlier, is the fastest, but also the most traumatic for the car. In particular, the following can be damaged (clogged):
- coarse filter;
- the pump itself;
- fuel line
The option is more complicated.
We remove the main fuel line hose from the fuel line ramp and attach our own hose to it, tighten the connection with a clamp (the pressure in the fuel line is 2-3 Atm.). Insert the end of the hose into the container. We find a block with fuses and a key relay (Usually located in the dashboard on the driver's side or under the hood closer to the battery). Using the diagram we find the fuel pump on/off relay.
We remove the relay and use a paper clip or wire to close the contacts leading to the relay. We turn on the ignition, gasoline begins to flow. If there is a lot of fuel in the tank, drain the gasoline intermittently so as not to disable the fuel pump. Immediately after air comes out of the hose, turn off the ignition (so as not to burn the fuel pump) - the tank is empty.
Reinstall the hoses and relays.
A safer way is to attach a bulb pump to the fuel line to pump out the fuel (a very long process)
