The VAZ 2112 model began production more than 15 years ago. The year 2004 became very important for domestic manufacturers, since during this period the car engine was replaced with a more powerful one (124 hp). Its volume also changed – it was now 1.6 liters. At the same time, the height of the crankshaft was changed: it increased by 2.3 mm, which made it possible to improve the running capabilities of the piston by 4 mm.

Connectors for tuning
The principle of doing chip tuning using Stolnikov 8.9/280 or Nuzhdinov 8.85/273 camshafts with your own hands is as follows: a direct-flow exhaust system (4-2-1 manifold), a receiver and a 54–56 mm damper are installed in the VAZ system. This helps to increase engine power. Replacing the standard piston with a lightweight one from the Lada Priora will also help increase engine efficiency. Thus, changes are made in the system, resulting in a reduction in fuel consumption and an increase in the power of the power unit.
If the power is still not satisfactory after the above manipulations, you can install a wide-phase camshaft and upgrade the cylinder head. In addition, those who like to drive at high speeds can add a compressor and four-throttle starting turbines to the car, which are necessary for stable engine operation and increased sensitivity of the gas pedal.
It works as follows: each cylinder of the engine gets one of the throttle valves, which eliminates resonant air vibrations and, as a result, stable operation of the engine from bottom to top. In this case, attention should be paid to the fact that in addition to such a throttle system, you will need:
- special collector;
- pipe;
- zero resistance filter;
- fuel pressure control;
- absolute pressure sensor;
- System firmware for a four-throttle engine.
After chip tuning of the VAZ 21124 is carried out, the engine power will increase to 180–200 hp.
Installation of a zero resistance filter
A zero-resistance filter, or simply “zero filter,” is mounted instead of the air filter and its housing. It is designed to reduce the resistance of incoming air into the system. Large filter throughput allows you to increase engine power by a couple of percent. Remember that the correct choice of filter and impregnation for it is the key to proper engine operation.
This tuning is one of the most affordable.
Channels and valves
- The exhaust and inlet channels are supposed to be ground , increasing the diameter at the inlet, and not changing the diameter at the outlet. We remove all irregularities and various joints that can in any way slow down the flow.
- Valves - it is better to use special lightweight or increased diameter ones. It is also expected to use the stiffest or sportiest springs, as well as lightweight valve plates.

Ignition system
This component is designed to prepare an air-fuel emulsion and deliver it to the cylinder inlets. It consists of 3 parts: air supply system, gasoline and receiver.
The fuel system includes a fuel rail with injectors, an electric pump, a tank and connecting pipes. The air supply system consists of a paper air filter, hoses and a throttle assembly.
The fuel supply works as follows. Based on a signal from the engine control unit, the pump is turned on and fuel enters the ramp. From it, fuel is injected through nozzles into the receiver, where it is mixed with air. The resulting mixture is drawn into it using the vacuum in the cylinder.

Fuel supply
Conventional injectors are not enough to operate the engine at high speeds. Since they are constantly in operation, the working pressure in the ramp is simply not enough. In order to increase engine power, you should install the most efficient nozzles, which can increase the volume of sprayed liquid several times. Such changes work most effectively with the 4-2-1 release technology.
Turbocharging
- The most effective, widespread and most expensive type of tuning is the installation of a turbine. After all, it is known that in order to increase engine power, it is necessary to supply the largest amount of a mixture of air and fuel into the cylinders.
- However, to increase the volume of fuel, a mandatory increase in the amount of air will be required, which is what the turbine does. The exhaust gases enter the turbine impeller, then it rotates and drives the compressor, which in turn pumps air into the cylinders.
- Since the air is pumped under pressure, its quantity increases significantly, which leads to an increase in fuel combustion, which results in an increase in power.

Description
The VAZ 21124 engine is part of the line of 16-valve power units produced by AvtoVAZ JSC. It is an in-line 4-cylinder power unit with overhead camshafts and electronic fuel injection (injector).
The gas distribution mechanism is driven by a belt, which must be changed every 45,000 km. At the same time, the manufacturer recommends inspecting it for damage and eliminating sagging every 15 thousand km of the distance traveled.
The VAZ 21124 engine is assembled on the basis of a tall (197.1 mm) cylinder block modification 11193-1002011, the use of which made it possible to increase the piston stroke to 75.6 mm. This led to an increase in the useful volume of the cylinders to 1.6 liters, torque and power of the power unit.
The developers of the 21124 motor managed to eliminate a significant drawback inherent in many motors. If the drive belt breaks, the power unit does not bend the valve. This was achieved by equipping the pistons with special holes that prevent contact between the piston and the valve in an emergency.
The use of hydraulic pushers made it possible to eliminate the need to adjust valve mechanism clearances. True, at the same time, the sensitivity of the engine to the quality of engine oil has increased.
Maintenance
Maintenance of VAZ 21124 engines generally comes down to periodic replacement of consumables - engine oil and coolant.
The main requirement that must be fulfilled is to inspect the engine for leaks. As a rule, replacement of technical fluids is carried out after eliminating detected leaks within the time limits specified in the maintenance regulations:
