The main increase in traction occurs at high engine speeds, and up to 3000 rpm, the engine characteristics essentially remain the same. To pick up the “bottoms,” the engineers modified the gearbox (5-speed manual), where a main pair with a gear ratio of 4.3 was installed (the base had 3.7). This made it possible to accelerate to the first hundred in only 9.5 seconds and raise the maximum speed to 197 km/h in fifth gear (Grand sedan 177 km/h). In this change to the standard series of gear ratios, the fifth gear was almost straight, rather than overdrive, and the fourth turned from direct to intermediate. The basis is the basic 1.6 liter VAZ 21126 engine, which after modification received the TMS index -21126-045. The engine is equipped with turbocharging (excessive boost pressure of 1.2 atm) and develops maximum power from 235 to 240 hp (depending on the setting) and 280 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.6 seconds.
The cylinder block and cylinder head are basic, and the piston group is of its own TMS-Sport design. The engine crankshaft is created on the basis of a serial one, but using special hardening technology. In the cylinder head, the intake and exhaust channels have been modified, new camshafts with a modified cam attack have been installed. To increase reliability, the oil pump was modified and the engine heat transfer process was improved. The turbine control system has been specially developed. The engine control unit has also been modified in TMS Sport.
For the World Circuit Racing Championship, a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with 300 hp was developed to meet the requirements of the new WTCC regulations.
