The stabilizer is a U-shaped rod made of spring steel. The stabilizer connects the left and right sides of the car in the transverse direction. - Jack up the side and remove the front wheel;
- Unscrew the ball joint fixing nut, the key is set to “14”. We knock out the finger from the seat;
- The fastening of one silent block is located vertically, the other horizontally. Unscrew the nuts one by one, head to “19”;
- We remove the lever from under the car;
- We fix it in a vice, press out the rubber bushings one by one;
- We inspect the seat and, if there are no defects, press in new bushings. We reassemble the structure.
After installation is complete, we visit a service station to check the wheel alignment angle. Despite the fact that the tie rod ends have not moved, the wheel angle may not be set correctly initially.
Maintenance of rear suspension on VAZ 2110
The rear suspension circuit consists of:
- Shock absorbers;

Today’s article will be devoted to the stabilizer struts of the VAZ car “eggs”. This is a part that, during a car damage during an emergency impact, due to its location and design, can penetrate into the passenger compartment and hit a person like an arrow.
To prevent this from happening, the pillars are made so that they break without getting into the cabin, and they break in a certain place, protecting the passengers of the car. If manufacturers were not subject to such restrictions, the post rod could be strengthened, making it thicker, and it would last much longer, but still safety comes first.
At the junction of the tip and the metal rod there is a thinning similar to a “neck”. It is designed so that if the load on the rack is greatly exceeded, the rod will break at this point. Otherwise, the pillar becomes a metal arrow that can pierce the bottom of the car, enter the passenger compartment and cause harm to the health of passengers.
All components and elements of the suspension, one way or another, are responsible for traffic safety, and only one component is directly responsible for this, and in general for comfort, this is the anti-roll bar, mainly the car’s stabilizer struts, the so-called “eggs”.
For a clearer understanding of this issue about the struts, it is necessary to say something about the stabilizer itself. At first glance, the anti-roll bar (anti-roll bar) is a rather primitive part of the car, representing a steel rod bent at a certain angle. To produce the stabilizer, special steel is used, which is capable of working as an elastic element when twisted, according to the operating principle of a torsion bar.
Since the stabilizer operates only in planes that are close to horizontal, this affects the layout of the car, imposing some restrictions on it. In order to avoid them, the stabilizer is attached to the load-bearing parts of the suspension by means of racks in a vertical plane. The task of the stabilizer is to increase the stability of the car and reduce body roll in motion under the influence of lateral forces (bends, turns, etc.), due to its internal resistance.
The principle of operation is quite simple. When a car enters a turn, under the influence of centrifugal forces, the elastic elements of the suspension are compressed on one side, and on the other, they are stretched. This creates a roll. At this moment, the stabilizer comes into operation, its middle part twists, trying to lift the car from the roll side. On the opposite side, on the contrary, he tries to lower the body, while compressing the elastic element of the suspension.
As a result, the car is aligned relative to the plane of the road surface. From the above it follows that the stabilizer, together with the VAZ stabilizer struts, is a very important suspension element. When the car sways above certain standard values, body roll can lead to extremely unpleasant consequences. This, in addition to the deterioration of the adhesion of the tires to the road surface, also means a complete loss of control over the behavior of the car, up to its overturning when cornering.
Therefore, operating a car with faulty stabilizer links can lead to unpredictable consequences...
Often, a VAZ stabilizer strut fails due to the fault of the drivers themselves, or rather their incorrect actions when driving through various ditches, holes or other road obstacles that abound on our roads. One of the most common mistakes made here is driving through an obstacle “on the brakes,” which is typical not only for beginners, but also for experienced drivers. This cannot be done under any circumstances, since the wheel does not rotate at this moment because it is blocked by the brakes.
The impact is practically not absorbed in any way, since all the suspension elements at this moment form a single whole: shock absorber, wheel, lever, axle, stabilizer link, etc., onto which the full power of the impact falls.
