The most popular nowadays are alarms with two-way communication; security and telematics systems are persistently moving from the highest price segment to the middle one. Meanwhile, simple alarms with one-way communication continue to maintain a certain demand, mainly among owners of older cars, for whom the most important function is remote door locking.
The Sheriff APS 2500 alarm system is a typical representative of its class. It is controlled from compact two-button key fobs; additional functions (besides simple disarming/arming and opening the trunk) are activated by combinations of button presses according to how the instructions describe it.
All connections of the central unit are exclusively analog; the alarm system does not support communication with digital buses.
User manual
To control the equipment, a 2-button remote control is used; the assignment of the keys is indicated in the instructions for use. The driver controls the security modes by short presses on the oversized button. To activate silent setting, briefly press the auxiliary button, and then the main key. It is possible to temporarily disable the shock sensor; the operation is performed by pressing the security button, and then holding the auxiliary switch for 4 seconds.
After the siren sounds, press the button of increased diameter located on the first remote control. Using a similar procedure, the codes of the remaining devices are entered, the correctness of programming is confirmed by a long signal from the siren. The setup mode is exited by turning off the ignition.
In the event of a breakdown of the remote control, the driver activates the emergency protection circuit:
- Press and release the Valet switch.
- Perform a 3-second hold on the Valet key.
- Sequentially close all open doors, 3 seconds after closing the last limit switch, the car is armed.
The security complex supports the function of re-arming (programmed when adjusting the head unit). After disarming, a 20-second countdown timer starts (accompanied by rapid flashing of the control indicator). If the alarm does not detect the opening of the limit switch, then the protection mode is restored.
To protect the car with the engine running, you need to leave the passenger compartment and lock the door behind you (the key remains in the ignition). Pressing the security button for a long time allows you to lock the doors. The machine will give a single signal with the siren and external lamps, the control diode goes into slow blinking mode. If the driver presses the auxiliary key (briefly) and then holds the larger button for 3 seconds, the security system is armed without the siren sounding a beep.

How to install
The car alarm head module is installed in the car interior at a distance from the standard electronic modules. To install the siren, select a place in the engine compartment located at a distance from the technological holes on the bottom or in the wheel arches. To protect the equipment from water and sound propagation, it is recommended to direct the bell outward from the power unit compartment.
The additional switch is attached to the car body (in a hole with a diameter of 6 mm or through a special adapter). After installation, it is necessary to adjust the stroke of the rod, which should not be less than 6 mm. The control diode is mounted in the car interior (on the plastic trim of the front pillars or the top cover of the instrument panel). The service switch is located discreetly near the driver's seat, the shock sensor is screwed to the engine shield on the passenger compartment side.
How to remove the pager body
Tools and accessories:
- small shaped screwdriver;
- thin plate or knife.
- Remove the battery by opening the cover located on the back of the remote control.
- There is a self-tapping screw in the battery compartment, unscrew it.
- The case is held on by plastic latches. Carefully pry them off with a knife or thin plate. Open the keychain.
- Preventative and repair work can be carried out.
Overview of models and operating and installation manuals
Sheriff APS-2500
An extremely primitive system without feedback, which is controlled by two key fobs with minimal functionality: one button controls arming/disarming, the second activates an additional channel, and in combination with the first, it implements arming with disabling sensors or silent mode.
This “Sheriff” alarm system can actually be considered a radio-controlled central locking module with a tiny share of security functions. With a standard installation, it is not at all difficult to disable it if the machine is hacked. Just look in the instructions to see how to disable the system without using a key fob:
- Open the door with the key.
- Turn on the ignition.
- Press the Valet button within an interval of no more than 10 seconds.
Therefore, for the owner, setting a secret code is a mandatory measure to ensure at least some security. Here its length is fixed, two numbers from 1 to 9, which theoretically gives 81 different combinations. However, the instructions prohibit choosing the number 3 as the first digit of the code, which reduces the number of combinations to 72.
To set a secret code, you need to disarm the car:
- Turn on-off-on the ignition.
- Dial the first digit using the Valet button.
- Turn off, then turn on the ignition again.
- Dial the second digit.
- Turn off and turn on the ignition.
- After waiting for a short signal from the siren, turn off the ignition again.
But in order for the alarm to start working with a secret code, you need to activate the corresponding function:
- After disarming the car, turn on the ignition.
- No later than 3 seconds later, press Valet three times (this is why you cannot use 3 in the first digit of the secret code).
- Turn off and turn on the ignition.
- Press Valet 9 times, going to the F9 function.
- Press the main key fob button - the system will give two siren signals, indicating that the F9 function has been switched to value 2 (secret code).
The procedure for disabling the security status using a secret code is the same as entering it.

Sheriff APS-2600
A minimally modernized version of the APS-2500, which now has arming and disarming buttons on the key fob of the same design.
Installation instructions for alarm system Sheriff APS-2600
Sheriff APS-35 PRO
The system differs from the APS-2500 model only in the updated design of the key fobs, where the arming and disarming buttons are separated, and the presence of a built-in power relay for an additional channel in addition to the low-current output. The remaining capabilities and level of protection of this alarm system are in no way superior to the APS-2500. True, the restriction on the first digit of the secret code has been removed, which, however, cannot be called a serious achievement.

Sheriff ZX-750
Two-way communication system on the main key fob.
Operates with wideband modulation on the 433 MHz band without the use of any form of dialog code. In modern urban conditions, this reduces the radius of reliable communication, and you can’t count on protection from code grabbers even more so. The only more or less relevant protection function is the control of a digital blocking relay, which, however, is not included in the package. Emergency deactivation of the alarm also occurs by pressing the Valet button once, if the secret code is not installed and activated (function F13).

Sheriff ZX-900
The system, while maintaining common features with the ZX-750, received an increased number of additional channels. Of these, two can be used to control external blocking relays with normally open contacts, and three can have roughly adjustable response time intervals.
The system does not meet modern requirements for anti-theft protection, just like those described above.

Sheriff ZX-1070
The first alarm with auto start in the line. Supports dialogue code only in the main key fob; it is used only for disarming. To fully use all key fobs from the kit, you must disable the F21 function activated at the factory.
Features of alarm connection
Installation of the system usually occurs without problems. The sheriff aps 2500 car alarm circuit is quite simple. You won’t have to pay much to install it at a car service center, and an experienced car enthusiast will be able to connect it himself.
The standard connection diagram is shown in the figure below:
During installation, you should choose the right place where all the alarm elements will be located. In order for the system to work for a long time, not fail and provide a high level of protection, you must adhere to the following rules:
- Install all parts away from heating parts: manifold, engine, exhaust pipes
- Ensure that the alarm is as inaccessible as possible. To prevent attackers from turning off the signal, the bell, control unit and other elements must be located in a hard-to-reach place. The control module is usually hidden under the dashboard, and the siren is hidden deep in the engine compartment.
- All connections must be carefully insulated. Wrap the wires into bundles and securely fasten them.
- Protect the system from water.
Thanks to the detailed connection diagram, the aps 2500 car alarm is quite easy to install and configure. The main rule when installing equipment is to strictly follow the instructions and not start work without understanding all the details.
Car alarm: connecting individual elements of the system
To connect all the components you will have to do a number of works:
- remove the wire from the ignition switch (which provides +12V voltage, directly when the ignition is turned on);
- stretch the limit switch cables directly from the hood and the siren device located in the cabin;
- make a high-quality diversion from the nearby “mass”.
When installing the equipment, we cut the original wiring responsible for controlling the electrical wiring for controlling the locks located on the doors. Basically, such elements are routed from the main unlocking switch to additional switches and then to the locks. For the full functioning of the security alarm, the element going to the main switch is connected to a green cable, and the element going to the electrical wires is connected to yellow.
The attached connection instructions provide even an amateur with all the necessary information about the places where the cables are connected and their unusual color camouflage. The main thing that we recommend paying special attention to is the protection of the wiring using high-quality insulating tape and corrugated tubes, as well as the quality of their fastening with cable ties.
The final stage is that the antenna is stretched to its maximum size and secured with ties in a place where it is almost impossible to damage it accidentally. It is strictly forbidden to wind the antenna cable around separate wires and harnesses that conduct current. This manual is suitable for all Sheriff models.
Technical capabilities of the APS 2500 alarm system
The car security system car alarm sheriff aps 2500 is a functional device that provides arming and disarming of the alarm using a remote control.
Like most modern anti-theft systems, it is equipped with a dynamic signal that changes its code with each press of the button. Such a system effectively resists reading devices that are used by attackers to open alarms.
The sheriff aps 2500 car alarm provides an optimal package of security functions.
It provides:
- Reliable one-way communication. The central module and the car alarm key fob aps 2500 have a stable signal, the alarm system responds to commands clearly, without delays or failures. One-way communication does not provide notification to the remote control or mobile phone.
- Instant reaction to a blow. The two-level shock sensor responds to interactions of varying strengths. The sensitivity of the device can be adjusted individually.
- Sound and light notification. When the aps 2500 car alarm is triggered, the siren and light warning immediately turn on.
- Anti-hijack system. This feature allows you to sound an alarm during a robbery where the driver is forced out of the vehicle. In this case, you can turn off the alarm only using an individual code.
- Panic mode. If the car is difficult to find in a large parking lot, the alarm gives a light and sound signal.
- Emergency disarming and programming with the Valet button. A small button, which is connected in an inconspicuous place, can set the service mode, turn off the alarm if the battery is low, and program the system to perform certain functions.
In addition to these basic security measures, connecting the APS 2500 car alarm makes it possible to silently remove and install security, connect central locks, bypass a faulty zone, temporarily disable the shock sensor and much more. The fact that the system is working and communication has been established is indicated by a special LED indicator, which is mounted from the inside on the windshield of the car.
Programmable auto-protection functions allow you to select the most convenient and practical mode for the vehicle owner.
The most popular additional features are:
- Security installation delay. The program provides delays of 5, 35 and 60 seconds.
- Automatic closing of doors when the engine is running.
- Function to disable false alarms.
- Setting a personal secret code.
- Passive security installation and much more.
A special feature of the APS 2500 is the presence of a special “Comfort” function. This programmable mode completely closes all doors, as well as the trunk and hood within 15 or 30 seconds (depending on the driver’s desire)

Connection APS 2500
A typical alarm connection diagram is shown in the figure below:
The central alarm unit is discreetly located inside the car. All unused wires are removed from the main and additional connection connectors, after which bundles are assembled according to the number of connection points to the standard electrical wiring.
Control of vehicle lighting is possible in several ways:
- Power control of dimensions: the red wire is connected through a fuse to the constant positive from the battery, the diode isolation on the white wire is cut off. The white wire connects to the power supply circuit for the parking lights: exterior lighting switch, backlight, etc.
- Power control of turn signals: the red wire is connected in the same way, the branch of the white wire after the diode isolation is connected to the corresponding sides of the vehicle's turn signal signals behind the steering column switch, on the dashboard, and so on, depending on which method is most convenient on a particular car.
- Pulse control of the alarm is used when a continuous signal of positive or negative polarity is supplied from a standard button to turn it on. The diode isolation from the white wire is cut off, the white and red wires are connected parallel to the contacts of the alarm button.
To work in conjunction with the standard central locking, normally open pairs of central locking and unlocking relay contacts are used, connected in parallel to the standard door lock/unlock button or the contact group of the driver's door drive, depending on which method is more convenient for use.
When installing drives on a car without central locking, power wiring is pulled to them. In this case, the plus of the power supply is connected to the normally open contacts of the relay, the ground - to the normally closed, otherwise the wiring going into the door will be constantly energized. If the wire insulation is broken or damaged, this will result in a short circuit.
Engine start blocking is provided using an external relay with normally closed contacts. This type of blocking is more reliable in terms of the service life of the relay itself (it only triggers when there is an attempt to steal, and not every time the ignition is turned on), but not in terms of resistance to theft - just turn off the central alarm unit or break the wire going from it to the relay, and the blocking will remain constantly closed.
In principle, nothing prevents you from combining them with door limit switches if they have negative polarity - since the alarm has no feedback, there is no fundamental difference in the use of these channels in most cases.
Two low-current outputs are provided to control additional devices:
Channel CH2 is primarily intended to control the trunk opening drive. Depending on the settings, the channel is activated either for the entire time you hold button 2 on the key fob, or for one second, or works as a trigger (changes state with each subsequent press of the button).
The shock sensor is disabled when channel 2 is activated. The most commonly used circuit is that the solenoid is switched on via an external relay; in this case, the channel is configured for a short-term pulse.
Long-term operation when held is necessary when using drives with gear reducers, which not only release, but also lift the door themselves - since this scheme is more complex and expensive, it is practically not used. Trigger operation can be used to control an external autostart module, additional interlocking, and so on.
Channel CH3 can be used to connect an additional blocking or be programmed to pulse when arming (to control the window closer) or when disarming (to implement the “polite backlight”). It is also possible to enable an external pager via this channel.
Despite the ability to equip your car with alarms with satellite output, communication with a mobile phone and other fashionable bells and whistles, simple and reliable systems with one-way communication continue to occupy a leading position in the market.
And one of the most popular and effective means against car theft is the aps 2500 car alarm, also known as Sheriff

Common APS 2500 system problems
In general, the operation of APS security equipment is stable. If the instructions for the aps 2500 car alarm were fully followed during installation, it can last for many years without any failures. But still, malfunctions in individual alarm elements are possible.
Let's look at the most common of them and ways to deal with each breakdown.
1. The key fob only works at close range. Possible causes of the malfunction:
- Dead batteries
- Moisture in the control panel
- Faulty antenna on the transmitter
Ways to solve the problem: Faulty batteries on the remote control must be replaced, simultaneously checking the inside of the device for moisture. If the reason is in the antenna, then only specialists can cope with its repair.
2. The alarm goes off for no apparent reason. Possible causes of the malfunction:
- High sensitivity shock sensor
- Short circuit in the electrical circuit
- Central module malfunction
Ways to solve the problem:
The shock sensor can be configured manually by setting the required sensitivity level. You can also check the electrical wiring at the moment of the short circuit yourself. You can try to get rid of a software glitch by rebooting the system. If all else fails, you need to contact a service center, where specialists will fix the malfunction of the aps 2500 car alarm.
