The belt must be replaced as follows:

  1. Remove the faulty belt.
  2. Using a “13” wrench, loosen the generator mounting bolt from below. You need to loosen it a little without unscrewing it completely.
  3. Unscrew the upper support and remove the nut and bolt.
  4. Be very careful. Rotate the generator until the upper flap is exactly behind the surface of the protrusion on the bracket, secure them in this position with ordinary wire.
  5. We put the belt on the generator pulley (pictured 2) and over the drive pulley (pictured 1).
  6. Engage fifth gear and push the car backwards. We need to turn the drive pulley to get the belt into place.
  7. Remove the wire and carefully return the generator to its original position with a screwdriver.
  8. We put the top bolt and nut in place, tighten it, then tighten the bottom one.

Owners of cars with air conditioning will need to stock up on WD-40 or similar lubricant, a 10" wrench, and also a balloon, since the right front wheel will need to be removed.

If the rotation of the pulley is accompanied by a howling or squealing noise, then the problem is in the bearings. If, after removing the wires, the noise disappears, then it is in the diode bridge, or a short circuit has occurred in the winding. In any case, repairs are inevitable, and sometimes only replacing the unit will help.

How to replace the Grant alternator belt

We engage fifth gear, push the car back, pressing the belt on pulley 1 in the photo. This is where a helper comes in handy.

After wearing, we work in the reverse order:

  • unplug the generator;
  • tighten in working position;
  • return the upper mounting bolt and tighten the lower one.

  • new marking tape 6РК 995;
  • keys key 8, 19;
  • socket wrenches 8, 10;
  • Torx keys T20, T27;
  • ratchet with extension and heads E14, 17.

Step 1. Tensioner

We find the tensioner, remove keys 19 and 8:

  1. 19 install the nut with a screw;
  2. 8 hold the lock nut;
  3. straighten;
  4. turn the lead screw clockwise to loosen the tension.

Step 2. Get under the car

We will need keys 8, 10. Remove:

  • central damper (numbers 1, 5, 7);
  • right shield (number 2).

Step 4: Engine Mount

Prepare to remove the engine mount.

Using a ratchet or E14 head ratchet, remove the screws that secure the mount to the motor.

Use head 17 to unscrew the screws that secure the support to the body.

Step 5. Dismantling and installation

We remove the belt from the pulleys and rollers and pull it out.

Installing the new one is done in reverse order.

Adjust the final tension by adjusting the tensioner.

DIY replacement instructions

A Lada Granta 8-valve car requires replacement of the alternator belt in the same way as a 16-valve car after identifying defects or according to the regulations. The procedure for replacing the generator set belt on a Lada Granta with air conditioning is complicated by the fact that the belt passes through the support of the power unit. Therefore, before putting on a new strap, it will have to be dismantled.

Replacement consists of the following steps:

  1. First, using a “19” wrench, you need to loosen the lock nut of the strap tensioner lead screw. While unscrewing the locknut, hold the screw with the head at “8”.
  2. To loosen the belt tension, rotate the lead screw in the direction of movement clockwise. By following these steps, you can adjust the tension of the accessory drive belt.
  3. To replace the strap, you need to remove the right engine mount.
  4. Having moved under the car, you need to dismantle the right and middle protective shields of the engine compartment.
  5. Then unscrew the fastenings in the middle and front part of the right front wheel arch liner. Next, bend the fender liner behind the wheel brake disc.
  6. Using a jack, we hang the right front wheel and dismantle it. The fender liner fastenings can now be released.
  7. At the next stage, we place a stop under the oil pan of the power unit so that it holds the weight of the engine.
  8. Using a TORX E-14 head, unscrew the screws that secure the support to the cylinder block bracket of the power unit. Using the “17” socket, unscrew the two nuts and the support bolt that secures it to the body side member.
  9. We dismantle the engine mount with the cushion.
  10. Now, through the resulting opening, you can remove the strap from the pulleys of the auxiliary units and pull it out of the engine compartment.
  11. We install a new consumable in place of the worn-out product. In this case, its tension should be adjusted using the tensioner screw. The deflection of the belt in the gap between the air conditioner compressor and the power unit pulley with a force of 10 kilograms should be within 7-8 mm.
  12. We perform assembly in the reverse order of removal.

  4. We take the generator to the motor and fix its housing with a flexible wire to the corresponding nut on the motor block. We hang the “fresh” belt on the second pulley completely, and on the first (drive) belt only on the upper arc.
  5. We activate fifth speed in the gearbox.
  6. Giving the belt strictly along the stream, we push the car until it is completely put on the pulley.
  7. We remove the previously applied wire.
  8. Using a mount, we press the generator unit in the opposite direction (away from the block) and at the moment the upper eye coincides with the hole in the bracket, insert the bolt and screw the nut onto it.
  9. We tighten the bolt on the lower mounting unit of the generator set.
  10. We check the tightening torques of both fastening points and the degree of tension of the belt drive.
  11. If there is a need to re-dismantle the belt, then perform the procedure similarly to the algorithm given here (except for point “1”). Here the belt is removed by pressing its sidewall against one of the cheeks of the drive pulley. For these purposes we use a mount. At the same time, we engage the gear in the gearbox and move the LADA Granta until the belt jumps off the guide runner in the pulley. Remove the center and right wings of the engine compartment from the bottom of the car.
