Last year, sales of a new domestically produced product began - the LADA Vesta SW CROSS station wagon. Maybe there’s not much that’s domestic left in it, but the car was made here, at our factory! The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters. In our case - 195 mm.

The number after R indicates the diameter of the rim in inches for which the tire is designed, or the inner diameter of the tire. In our case, this figure is 15 inches.
The next designation in the rubber marking is the number 91. It indicates the maximum load on one wheel or load index. In our case it is 615 kg. For passenger cars this indicator is not so important, but for trucks it is of great importance. Full information about load indices and their corresponding masses is displayed in the table below:
The letter T in the Lada Vesta Cross tire marking indicates the speed index. In other words, this is the maximum permissible speed at which you can drive a car equipped with such tires. Following the table below, you can easily calculate that you can drive no more than 190 km/h on tires marked T.
And finally, we get to the last indicator. XL - indicates that the tire is reinforced. Those. if XL is indicated next to the marking, then the maximum weight will not be equal to 615 kg, but three units more, i.e. 670 kg.
There are also other designations. For example, the seasonality of tires. Winter tires are always indicated by a snowflake. M+S (M&S, Mud + Snow) - all-season tires. Rain tires are usually indicated by an umbrella pictogram.
These are the basic notations. There are others, for example, the direction of the tread, which allows you to install the wheels correctly on the car and others. But basic symbols will be enough for 80% of drivers.

However, these tires also have disadvantages - very weak vibration absorption due to the rigidity of the center and outer part.
Asymmetrical directional
This is the rarest option. Not currently produced. These tires were designed to effectively drain water and smoothly distribute the load over the entire surface of the tire. But the difficulty of using it was with the spare wheel, since for a regular car you had to carry 2 of them.

I would like to suggest a relevant topic for an article. I am the owner of a Lada Vesta SW Cross, and now it is important for me to buy winter tires on rims. However, it turned out that AVTOVAZ used a non-standard disk with an offset of 43 and requires that only this be used in order to avoid loss of warranty. The official disc costs a cosmic 7.5 thousand, there is only one possible replacement - for 6.5 thousand, and even the manufacturer has only 1 (one) disc in stock (assume that there is no replacement). Thus, the factory imposes the purchase of its unique disc at a clearly inflated price. Why not bring this to the attention of the public and ask for comments from the plant? At the very least, the factory could allow other replacement options. Theoretically, it is possible to install 18-inch wheels on the Lada Vesta Cross. But these changes will not allow the motorist to feel normal on the road.
The width of the tires is very different from the dimensions declared by the manufacturer, so if there are bumps and holes on the roads, the wheels will quickly fail. However, installing such disks has its advantages:

And already from the warranty technician there was a predictable answer: the wheels will fit, but showing up with them at the service station will be a reason to refuse free suspension repairs. However, everyone made it clear that this would not necessarily happen. Would you take their word for it?
Of course, you can schedule maintenance trips during the season when your Vesta is wearing factory wheels. But the very fact that dealers match sizes that are not approved by the factory is outrageous. Someone will buy them without asking any questions! And then, to his surprise, the same technical center will receive a refusal of warranty.
