In conclusion
It is difficult to imagine that Oka can act as an all-terrain vehicle.
Nevertheless, ingenuity and resourcefulness make it possible to create a real off-road conqueror out of this “baby”. Full-fledged Russian-made SUVs, not to mention foreign-made grandees, are very expensive. Converting a “compact car” into an all-terrain vehicle also requires considerable expenses. However, many consumers are confident that “the game is worth the candle.” First, the transformation can be carried out in stages. Secondly, you can easily find spare parts, as well as use improvised means and parts from non-working cars. Among the most popular homemade versions of the all-terrain Oka, Fr. They are based on low-pressure pneumatic wheels. The originality of the tracked models is that they are perfect for snowy and sandy areas.
Owner reviews
User responses to the Oka SUV (see photo in the review) vary. Some people argue that, combined with low cost and high cross-country ability, the improved vehicle can be used on equal terms with UAZs and other domestic all-terrain vehicles. A tracked vehicle is generally capable of overcoming deep ditches and snowy areas. In addition, with skillful modification, the car becomes a real amphibian.
Other users note that the converted Oka consumes a lot of oil and fuel and often breaks down. In addition, rapid tire wear can lead to additional costs. And the transformation of a “compact car” into a jeep itself requires significant costs. Although, this does not stop fans of tuning domestic vehicles. Fortunately, there are still many skilled craftsmen in our country.
Suspension tuning
Do-it-yourself car tuning
When converting an Oka into an SUV, improving driving characteristics is the car owner’s primary task, since the standard suspension leaves much to be desired. For this purpose, gas-oil shock absorbers are installed, increasing the vehicle's handling and stability.
It is not worth changing the standard springs, since improved modifications quickly fail. When converting an Oka, 13-wheelers are fitted with tires of the appropriate size.
To create an SUV, the suspension is lifted using a special set or installing spacers under the springs. As a result, the rear of the car rises, but the shock absorber mounts require modification.
How to make an SUV on tracks from the Oka?
Do-it-yourself field tuning
Creating such an all-terrain vehicle is quite difficult and expensive. Caterpillars from the Buran all-terrain vehicle are suitable as a running element. You can also make them yourself, but for this you need to have the appropriate skills, materials and time. The drive shafts are also taken from the specified model, since the variable gearbox will be optimally combined with the braking system of the future Oka SUV.
The car's own CV joints will be used. Connecting and connecting the brake discs is not difficult. Identical manipulations are performed on the front shafts. Experts recommend mounting the brake unit in the front of the car. After completing the specified work, the functionality of all main elements and their fastenings is checked. If the first tests do not raise any complaints, you can move on to field testing of the all-terrain vehicle. On some modifications, craftsmen put tracks on each wheel. Among the advantages of this design is the reduction in the total weight of the vehicle. In this case, grip on the road surface will deteriorate.
Ideas for external modifications
"Stens" is a fashionable trend in modern tuning. Drivers realize their ambitions when they bring the car to a state of uniqueness. A car causes envy if it is, as it were, spread out on the road.
To do this, Oka's suspension is extremely lowered and large rims are installed. In addition, tuners monitor the position of the wheels relative to the body, and the position of the body in relation to the road. The wheel arches are equipped with stylish linings.
Next install:
Tuning element | Cost, in rubles |
Air intakes on the hood from a Subaru Impreza WRX | 1050 |
Round lens headlights | 1200 |
New volumetric mirrors with a convex fairing, heating and anti-glare | 700 |
Nice bumpers instead of plastic ones | 1200-5000 |
Then they decorate the car with airbrushing and vinyl paintings.
In the case of such processing, the Oka driver fully deserves: “Boy, your car is the coolest!” This is what the “stens” direction means, loosely translated.
All-terrain vehicle based on the Oka "Lyonekhod"
Tuning Niva 2121 with your own hands (photo video)
A fairly simple and cheap to assemble all-terrain vehicle based on the Oka was made by Leonid from the city of Nyagan. The all-terrain vehicle is capable of reaching a speed of about 50 kilometers per hour, and can also overcome water obstacles by swimming. the car was made mainly for forays into remote areas of the forest for gathering.
To assemble such an all-terrain vehicle, the following parts and materials were required:
1) Body from an Oka car 2) profile pipe for frame assembly 3) VAZ 1111 internal combustion engine 4) most of the chassis from Niva 2121 5) SHAIN tires 6) Steering gear from VAZ 2109
Let's take a closer look at the work done on the all-terrain vehicle.
To begin with, the author decided to make the frame of the future all-terrain vehicle. the frame was made independently from a profile pipe available from the author.
The frame manufacturing diagram is shown below:
This is what the front axle of the assembled all-terrain vehicle looks like:
The fastenings from the Muscovite bridge were cut off to install springs. Springs from the Muscovite 412 with stepladders were installed; for this purpose they were pre-sized and overcooked. Initially, the author planned to make a spring suspension, as is customary to do on all-terrain vehicles with a small mass of the Oka type, but decided that springs were still more reliable, since for springs it was necessary to complicate the frame to accommodate the travel of the springs and install more salen blocks for fastening. That is, the main factor in favor of spring suspension was simplicity and reliability.
After the main assembly, the author began testing the car. As the tests progress, minor improvements are also being made, in particular, deficiencies are identified and eliminated, work continues on the appearance of the vehicle, and the suspension system is being improved.
The weight of the all-terrain vehicle was about 800 kilograms. The all-terrain vehicle has the following dimensions: the length of the base is 210 centimeters, the width is 208 centimeters, the length of the entire all-terrain vehicle is 360 centimeters, the height is about two meters, the ground clearance is 40 centimeters.
Painting work was carried out, and foam was installed under the bottom for greater buoyancy:
For the same purpose, a camera can be attached to two straps in the front of the all-terrain vehicle; with this approach, you don’t have to worry about the stability of the vehicle on the water.
Over a short period of operation, several problem areas of the all-terrain vehicle were identified. In particular, the upper plates of the front springs were bent, so gussets will be installed. Problems with the oil also emerged; after 50 kilometers of travel, the oil level dropped significantly, since the engine was purchased in excellent condition, it is most likely not the problem. In addition, no oil leaks were found anywhere. the reason lies in the wet filter after overcoming water barriers. The holes in the top cover on the housing were sealed to prevent the filter from getting wet. The chassis did not reveal any problems.
[edit] History
The subject of the article was developed in Serpukhov, which managed to distinguish itself with that very “disabled vehicle” S3D, which, in general, was not even a car, but a motorized stroller. So the project was successfully transferred to the VAZ designers, who created this miracle in the guise of a cropped G8. What happened next was as always: production of the “flea” began in 1988 at VAZ, and the very next year SeAZ became part of it and also began riveting cars under the designation SeAZ-1111, traditionally among them there were versions with controls re-sawn for the needs of disabled people. Production is also being developed in Naberezhnye Chelny.
In 1995, VAZ management curtailed production of the Oka, citing the unprofitability of using its capacity to produce such a cheap car, but still having lost the power of this 750 cc engine (model 11113). The production of “KAMAZ miscarriages” ended in 2006, simultaneously with the cessation of production of 11113 carburetor engines by AvtoVAZ.
Thus, SeAZ actually faced the need to produce a car without an engine
, since the stock of units, to which a neutralizer also had to be screwed in order to comply with at least some environmental standards, did not last long. Help was traditionally provided by Big Yellow Brother, thanks to whom Oka acquired a 3-cylinder injection engine with a volume of a whole liter and a five-speed gearbox (model SeAZ-11116).
However, during the three years that Oka was still in production, the management of SeAZ managed to give birth to a series of lulz, for example, a two-seater pickup truck with a microbody SeAZ-11116-50. There were even rumors about the development of an electric car based on the Oka. Which, however, did not stop the inevitable closure of production and mothballing of the SeAZ premises in 2009.
In 2003, some crazy Pindos actually bought a license and began to rivet an electric version individually for their gopota from Sabarbs. The cars look exactly like ours, but they cannot move faster than 40 km/h. According to Pindos laws, electric Okushki are not allowed on highways. Anon will only be able to drive along Route 66 in a Russian or Soviet-built Oka. But please go to the local Auchan for some bread. The cars are slightly more expensive than in the Russian Federation. Almost like a budget version of this Logan of yours. But nevertheless, it is quite possible to order Okushka for yourself.
Stages of creation
To acquire the design of an SUV, you will need to carry out the following manipulations:
- Finding the basis for the vehicle. Using a motorcycle frame is quite suitable for this. The brand doesn’t matter, it all depends on the financial choice, as well as off-road preferences. This indicator is most developed in IZH motor vehicles.
- Creation of the rear axle and suspension. To do this, you need to use a strut that connects the side members. All this is complemented by a strut and steering bushing, which as a whole form an independent rear suspension. It is recommended to use just such a suspension, because it will provide the product with the necessary maneuverability in difficult places.
- Installation of wheels. In practice, such an all-terrain vehicle based on the Oka is equipped not with the wheels themselves, but with their cameras. They are taken from trucks and attached to the suspension using a hub. Stability is complemented by special tapes that wrap around the wheel. As a rule, cameras from KAMAZ, Ural and cargo trailers are used. This solution increases the reliability of the trip.
- Providing torque and mounting the engine. Such procedures begin to be done after installing the frame and suspension. In addition to the motor, you will also need to install a brake, clutch and exhaust system.
When the entire list of work has been completed, it is necessary to test the device for functionality. If errors are identified, they must be corrected. As practice shows, an illiterately made all-terrain vehicle or swamp vehicle from the Oka can create a danger to others.
Possible nuances
Despite its advantages, this technique has its drawbacks. Frequent troubles are caused by the fragility of low-pressure chambers. Of course, due to the absence of a differential, the vehicle does not require frequent maintenance, but the presence of high pressure in the overall wheels reduces their maneuverability. Also, due to the size of the wheel system, there is a problem with flying dirt, because it is quite difficult to cover them with wings.
Practice shows that pneumatics have poorer maneuverability than the Oka all-terrain vehicle on tracks. The choice of materials used for the design and type of future vehicle directly depends on the purpose of use. More and more people from suburban and rural areas prefer to create such structures, since converting the Oka into an all-terrain vehicle is, first of all, financially beneficial.
A homemade all-terrain vehicle from Oka is profitable and convenient, because the device can be repeatedly modernized and improved. In different weather seasons, its design and characteristics can be changed to adapt them to the weather conditions of the area.
Creating a homemade all-terrain vehicle is a common practice in suburban areas where it is not possible to purchase an expensive car
But it is important to take into account the design features and approach the creation of such a machine with all responsibility. Negligent performance of work can create a risk to the life of the driver and others
Oka panel tuning
Tuning the Oka torpedo is associated with a difficulty - the compact dimensions of the car. In this regard, it is unlikely that it will be possible to install a torpedo from other models. Or you will have to search for suitable sizes for a long time. Here the best helpers will be imagination and available means.
You can resort to the standard, proven option - covering the dashboard with leather or carbon film. If you want to create something exclusive, then polyurethane foam, epoxy resin, and a grinding tool will help with this. With their help, you can change the design of the torpedo as you please. This is also a good method for redesigning the dashboard mounting hole.
Do-it-yourself Oka panel tuning also provides 2 options:
- Factory Panel Upgrade
- Installing a new panel from other car models
The first option involves replacing standard backlight lamps with LED ones. Installing a new backing or modifying the standard one will create a custom look. A complete replacement of the instrument panel will require modification of the dashboard.
Do not forget about high-quality sealing; a new or modified torpedo should not make squeaks. This requirement can be considered an integral part of tuning.
Engine tuning
Modernization of the Oka engine is conditionally divided into two directions:
- Replacing the motor.
- Improving the characteristics of the standard power unit.
The ideal option for converting the Oka to an injector is to install a 1.3-liter engine from a Rover Mini. Modernization allows you to increase the technical characteristics of the car, but the cost of the work is very high, since most systems need to be redesigned for a new engine.
The second option is to improve the engine. It is cheaper, but does not allow you to achieve such an increase in power as the first one.
Modernization of the Oka engine begins with the carburetor, namely, increasing the diameter of the throttle valve. This facilitates the operation of the motor, increases its service life and technical characteristics. Instead of increasing the throttle, you can immediately install a tuned version of the carburetor.
An increase in the number of revolutions to 7000 units is possible thanks to the installation of a new camshaft. At the same time, the engine power is increased:
- Lightweight valves are installed instead of standard ones.
- Modernization of valve seats;
- Improved valve inlet and outlet ports.
- Sealing.
- Installation of bronze guides.
- Reconstruction of combustion chambers.
The intake and exhaust manifolds are replaced with sports analogues, the air filter is replaced with a K&N model with zero resistance. The work allows you to improve the technical characteristics of the engine and minimize power losses.
Bright baby for a disco lover
The compactness and technical capabilities of the Oka will not disappoint if you make some cool tuning. This is what a craftsman from the Kabardino-Balkarian city of Prokhladny decided.
He painted the baby lush green, removed the roof and added Morell, Ivolga Gold, JVC speaker systems, as well as an Alpine subwoofer and a Hertz digital amplifier plus TV.
With this “Oka” you can organize mobile discos. A convertible without the appropriate documents appeared on a car advertisement website with a price tag of 170 thousand rubles.
Wheels or tracks
Before developing drawings, you should decide on the concept of the chassis of the future homemade product:
- The low-pressure tire design is based on axles mounted on leaf springs and additional hydraulic shock absorbers. The closed body is placed on brackets that allow the use of large diameter tires. The equipment is lightweight and can move through deep snow and marshy areas. To reduce weight, it is possible to build an all-terrain vehicle on stripped tires - tires from agricultural machinery with a partially removed tread and cut out steel cord.
- A do-it-yourself tracked all-terrain vehicle from Oka is built on the basis of a chassis with rubber bands and road wheels made of wheels with rubber tires. The equipment can move on loose soil and ford water obstacles. The vehicle weighs more than the basic Oka passenger car; due to the use of a tracked propulsion system, it requires the installation of control levers connected to the on-board brakes to turn the all-terrain vehicle.
Thoughtful solution
Since in rural areas you often have to navigate difficult terrain, many people want to buy an SUV. Alas, such cars are quite expensive, so you need to know how to make an all-terrain vehicle from the Oka. To create it, they use improvised means, which include spare parts from broken cars and motorcycles.
Among the most popular options for “folk” crafts are “station wagons” based on low-pressure pneumatics or air-cushioned ones. The use of crawler tracks is also common, but they are more suitable for snowy areas. Creating an SUV based on the Oka is a cost-effective solution, since it does not require the purchase of expensive components.
All-terrain vehicle on low-pressure tires
This design is based on an invention that uses a body that is located on a breakable frame. This solution significantly strengthens the design of the product. All wheels are installed with your own hands as drive wheels, so they can even overcome swampy terrain.
Based on Oka engines, the production of so-called karakat engines is also very popular. They stand out for their increased cross-country ability thanks to wide-format tires. This complements the advantages of pneumatics, because it does not destroy the grass cover.
Using Tracks
These “station wagon” options are most popular among fishermen and hunters. Homemade tracked all-terrain vehicles from Oka have increased maneuverability in water bodies and wooded areas. Their body is usually made of a box structure, which reaches a length of 3 meters. It is light in weight, so in places where deep traces of a person remain, vehicles penetrate into the quagmire only 10 cm.
Bumper tuning for Oka
Standard VAZ 1111 bumpers are difficult to modernize, as they have a limited tuning resource. The reason is the small surface area where the fog lights and the space for the license plate are located close to each other. But if you wish, you can also rock the standard bumpers. This is done using polyurethane foam, epoxy resin and a grinding tool. For example, you can enlarge the bumper at the bottom by adding diffusers, following the example of rally cars. But such technology is impractical and labor-intensive.
The main difficulty in upgrading a standard bumper is creating a symmetrical surface and clear drawing of lines. Design development can also cause some difficulty. In order not to suffer for a long time, it is worth taking some advanced example of a sports bumper as a basis.
The optimal tuning of the bumper for the Oka with your own hands is the replacement of native samples with advanced modifications. It's simple and fast. The only difficulty will be the installation of the rear bumper. The reason for the difficulties is the tow bar. It should be remembered that voluminous bumpers visually increase the size of the body. The effect can be increased by moving the bumpers forward.
Washer problems
Now let's look at the washer. After all, it seems to work normally, without any glitches. But there is one inconvenient nuance - the tank and motor for the rear window washer are located in the trunk, which is not a very convenient solution in terms of operation: it is not convenient to fill in the liquid, and during operation the motor makes a rather unpleasant sound, because, in fact, the trunk in OKE it is a continuation of the salon. This deficiency needs to be corrected. And since there is simply no room in the engine compartment for a second motor, the tank itself needs to be replaced. You can install a similar one from Niva. It is only a little larger in size, but it has room for 2 motors. But now there is one difficulty - the motor is in front, and the rear window is behind. If you go out alone, you need to stretch the hose. In practice, it turned out that you will need about 6-7 meters of hose, but you can buy more in reserve.

"Lenekhod"
Just by the name of this transport, it becomes clear that its author and designer was a master named Leonid. Indeed, a resident of the city of Nyagan, who built such a miracle of technology, capable of accelerating up to 50 km/h and overcoming any water barriers, bears this very name.
If we talk about the technical characteristics of the snowmobile, then it was built on the body of the same Oka, placed on an all-welded profile frame, receiving a motor from a VAZ-1111 as a power plant.
The result is a real hodgepodge of meat, and even on studded SHAIN tires, but the car copes with its duties with a bang, helping the owner transport firewood and other cargo.
[edit] Composition
- Engine
: the canonical one is the “half-eighth”, two-cylinder engine with pistons from the VAZ-2108, respectively, available in volumes of 650 and 750 cubic meters. Limited production with a Tavria engine. The Pepelats was also equipped with a Chinese three-cylinder unit. The domestic engine is notorious for its carburetor, which managed to absorb the vices of both Solex and Ozone. Despite the presence of balancer shafts, it vibrates quite noticeably. - Ignition system
: the ignition coil was located on the right front shock absorber cup. When driving through a puddle with the right wheel, water fell on the generator belt, from where it splashed onto the coil and high-voltage wires, and one cylinder stopped working until the happy owner put the coil to sleep on the heating battery at night. Considering that there are only two cylinders, the task of getting from the puddle to the house became non-trivial. It was treated by placing a cut plastic bottle on a reel. Shortly before production was cut out, the coil was moved to a place more protected from water. - The gearbox
is a four-speed, in combination with a weak engine, it provides a heart-rending growl with floor vibration already at 80 km/h. Modifications with an engine from Tavria had a mirrored arrangement of gears on the gearshift lever, since the normal rocker did not fit. - The body
is angular a la “chisel”. Due to the need to provide an acceptable weight for a small engine plus an acceptable price (and according to Pediwiki, Oka is the cheapest car in the world), he deservedly gave the car the nickname “Death Capsule” (at the same time, “Oka” is also the name of the Yokusuka MXY- kamikaze aircraft 7 Ok. WAIT, OH SHI
). It is also known for starting to rust even before the first owner purchases it.
- brakes
, and that’s a good thing. Moreover, they are dual-circuit, so they do not experience the SUDDEN failure of the entire braking system, beloved by the hunchbacked “Cossacks”. However, there is a need for regular manual adjustment of the gap of the rear drum pads, because they saved money on self-feeding in the designer’s mechanism. When the MPH is driven into this procedure, the brakes at one point disappear altogether, which, taking into account the previous point... - The interior
is as wretched as a Soviet refrigerator, which is especially noticeable on cars painted white. The quality of plastic can surpass even Chinese toys, in addition, it delivers a speedometer similar to a “penny” one, while toggle switches and steering switches are from a Zhiguli. The more expensive latest versions have slightly more decent trim and dashboard. - Gas tank
: its filler cap was located directly on the body (like the Tavria), and not in a niche under the hatch, like in adult cars. Thanks to this design, the lid was often stolen by gopniks. Those owners who dared to travel to the European Union had to obtain a certificate from the factory stating that it was a factory design, otherwise they would be turned away at the border. - Additional equipment
- oops, sorry, wrong window...
How to make an all-terrain vehicle from Oka with your own hands?
To make your own unique jeep you will need several basic elements:
- directly the Oka car under the SUV;
- profile pipe for making a frame;
- running gear from Niva;
- steering block, can be from VAZ-2109;
- special tires.
At the first stage, a frame is created from a profile pipe. To begin with, they develop a detailed diagram, after which they entrust the work to an experienced welder, who is guaranteed to ensure the quality of all connections. Next, the transfer case is mounted with its connection to the corresponding mechanisms of the machine.
It is recommended to use springs as a suspension. Springs are not excluded, but they will significantly complicate the frame structure. To mount larger wheels, the fenders are cut off, otherwise it will not be possible to install larger diameter tires. The Niva chassis will ensure ideal off-road performance of the vehicle. After the Oka SUV is ready, test and field tests are carried out in several stages, starting with light off-road and low speeds.
Down with the roof! Add summer!
Danil also inherited a 1997 Lada Oka from his grandfather. The plans were grandiose; I wanted to replace the engine and strengthen important components. However, the calculation of funds and time upset the owner. He decided to limit himself to improving the appearance of the car.
The guy disassembled and cleaned the engine, replaced consumables, installed the necessary spare parts, checked and adjusted all components, got rid of rust, strengthened the bottom, cut off the roof and door frames, ordered a new body kit and bumpers. When choosing interior upholstery, the choice fell on orange fabric.
Some elements of the car had to be modified or made from scratch, for example, the trunk lid.
Alloy wheels (4-spoke) took the place of the original wheels. The body was painted blue with orange elements. This is how a nondescript car turned into a stylish convertible.
Oka suspension tuning
Improving the driving characteristics of the VAZ 1111 is the owner’s primary task, since in the basic version the suspensions are useless and cause a lot of complaints. To correct the situation, it is necessary to install gas-oil shock absorbers. This is enough to give the car stability and improve its handling.
Experts do not recommend replacing standard springs with advanced modifications, as the latter quickly fail.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=-JxwPi5UmAU
If you plan to make an SUV out of Oka, then it is necessary to lift the suspension. This can be done using a specialized kit or by adding spacers under the springs. The result is a lifted rear of the car. But at the same time it will be necessary to modify the shock absorber mounts. Actually, this is all that is needed to improve the suspension of the VAZ 1111 with your own hands.
Assembly Features
The main advantage of an Oka ATV is its power. A two-cylinder liquid-cooled engine may be too small for an Oka as a car, but for an ATV it is enough.
First you need to prepare the frame for the ATV. It is usually welded. In order to do this you will need:
- Upper and lower spars (they are usually made of two round pipes with a diameter of 25 millimeters and a thickness of 3.2);
- Auxiliary spars (for example, for struts);
- Bent side members for the upper and lower planes.
- Mounts for levers and shock absorbers.
And a number of small parts for installing various components. But at this stage, the search for an answer to the question of how to make an ATV from oka is just beginning. The next thing to take care of is the transmission. It will be quite unique, since despite the fact that an all-wheel drive engine is used, there is no gearbox in this case.

A snow and swamp-going vehicle that can even swim
Even more solid results were achieved by a car mechanic from Rubtsovsk, who used not only the body, but also the Oka engine when creating his unique creation.
To ensure record cross-country ability, allowing the all-terrain vehicle to overcome any off-road conditions, snow drifts and rivers, the designer tried to make this model as light as possible, actually removing rear axles from its design.
In addition, the master made the wheels himself, using the tubes from an old trailer as a basis. In any case, the machine turned out to be quite solid in appearance, having served its owner faithfully for three years in a row.
Spare parts and materials used:
- Engine and gearbox from Oka.
- Bridges from UAZ.
- Transfer case from Niva.
- Wheels from Kraz.
- Steering and springs from Volga.
- Square pipe 50*50*2.5 mm - 20 meters.
- Sheet metal.
I installed the springs from Volga, initially the springs contained five leaves, but two leaves were removed and, as it turned out later, it was in vain, it was necessary to leave all five. Shock absorbers from Niva.
The photo shows a homemade adapter for connecting the UAZ cardan with the Niva razdatka. It’s done this way, we take 2 flanges from a UAZ and a Niva, cut off the working part of the oil seal from the Nivovsk, connect the flanges with the reverse sides and weld them together, you get an adapter.
I painted the frame and bridges and installed the engine. The differential in the box is welded, the Okovskaya “grenade” is cut off and a flange for the Nivovsky cardan is welded to it.
I installed a Volga steering wheel, it’s a little hard to steer, and over time I’ll need to install a hydraulic booster.
Since the fit of the wheels on the UAZ bridges is a bit narrow, I decided to make the wheel rims with an offset to space the wheels further away from the body. This is necessary so that the turning radius of the front wheels is sufficient.
The tires were taken from Kraz; the peeling process was carried out using a chainsaw, which was used to cut strips. I peeled it off with an electric hoist and trimmed it with a utility knife.
One day on the road, both CV joints on the wheel side fell off. The reason for this is not known, but now I always carry spare ones. There may be additional load due to wheel offset, or there may simply not be enough strength for severe conditions. And so the all-terrain vehicle has been in service for several years and so far there have been no more serious breakdowns.
How to convert an eye into an all-terrain vehicle with your own hands
If you decide to independently improve your Oka car, then initially you need to prepare. For production you will need:
- Oka car;
- profile pipe for frame;
- chassis from Niva;
- VAZ-1111 engine;
- steering from "Nine";
- tires.
First you need to make a frame from a profile pipe. It is best to develop a detailed diagram and contact a professional welder to ensure reliable connections. After this, the transfer case is installed and connected to the vehicle’s mechanisms. As for the suspension, it is best to install springs here. There can also be springs, but then the frame design will become more complicated. And in general, springs will be better for off-road driving. To install the wheels, it was necessary to cut off the car's fenders. If this is not done, it will be impossible to install large diameter tires. The Niva chassis should provide ideal off-road performance. Once the basic assembly is completed, the vehicle needs to be inspected. It is best to carry out tests at once in several stages off-road.
Two for 0.75: test drive of an all-wheel drive Oka with engines in front and rear
To the madness of the brave...
As you already understand, the main “trick” of this Oka is hidden in its… back.
Any normal person (that is, not a jeeper) has a question: why is this so? After all, there are completely human ways of tuning. For example, stick an engine from a Priora and/or a transmission from a Niva into a cigarette butt (yes, what seems crazy to some is successfully practiced by others). The answer is simple: this is too easy a path that was paved a long time ago. But the right guys don’t follow such roads, they try to come up with something of their own. Well, that's commendable. Moreover, the transmission from the Niva is not so much heavy as it is too powerful for the Oka body. It would have to be completely profiled, otherwise there is a risk of tying it in a knot. And such an Oka will no longer be so similar in appearance to an ordinary Oka. It would turn out to be some kind of cramp, but I didn’t really want to build a cramp.
Therefore, Alexander Ivanov came up with such an interesting idea: shouldn’t we make an Oka with two engines and, of course, all-wheel drive? The idea began to be implemented in August 2022, and the first visit was already made in September. To be honest, the pace is impressive. On the other hand, how else could it be if a whole crowd of people immediately attacked the unfortunate donor “cigarette butts”, each of whom ate more than one dog (lifted, of course) while preparing the SUVs? True, in the first workshop the work ended with the body being overcooked: she moved to another place, and the car was handed over to her, one might say, technical father - Andrei Morkovkin. That’s when he told how he turned an ordinary Oka into an unusual Okella (yes, the name of this car was changed too!).
So, the body was digested. For what? Then, there should be a power unit from another Oka at the back. It is the power unit - the engine, gearbox and clutch. Well, besides them - and drives. To do this, the front part of the body of the donor car was welded into the trunk of the Oka. After this, it was possible to install a second engine. Which, however, first had to be “recapitalized” - it shamelessly ate oil. They didn’t do anything else with the engines; they remained the same 0.75-liter VAZ-11113 with 33 hp. in the depths of a two-cylinder block.
How to make an all-terrain vehicle from Oka with your own hands?
To make your own unique jeep you will need several basic elements:
- directly the Oka car under the SUV;
- profile pipe for making a frame;
- running gear from Niva;
- steering block, can be from VAZ-2109;
Tuning optics VAZ-1111
Optics, which are often subject to tuning, have a significant influence on the appearance of the Oka. Installing covers is one of the effective methods of upgrading headlights. Sets of linings can be purchased at specialized stores. The second option is to install LED lamps and polish the headlights themselves. Often, a complete replacement of optics is carried out, which requires modernization of the body.
Reworking the Oka optics may include the following headlight design changes:
- Applying a shiny coating to the rim with a chrome look.
- Modernization of the optics substrate.
- Installation of LED strips that give the car an aggressive appearance.
Tuning the rear optics of a VAZ-1111 most often involves installing overlays that will not impair the safety and visibility of the lights.

Improving the design
In addition, on an ATV, the engine must be placed lengthwise to ensure the operation of the gear change and also to synchronize the gearbox with the output shafts. And if in a car the synchronization goes to the right and left wheels, then in an ATV it goes to the front and rear axles, respectively.
Also, do not forget to take care of the location of the entire structure. Since this is not a car, the entire unit will need to be moved slightly to the left. This is necessary so that the horizontal angle of the transmission shafts decreases, otherwise the ATV will operate unevenly.
The gearbox will also have a number of unique features. For example, it is recommended to immediately remove the gear pair and install a chain drive instead. This is necessary to balance the speed of movement and at the same time increase torque.
Gear shifting in this case is also longer. It is better to install the speed shift lever on the left. There will be four gears in total, two at the front and at the rear, and accordingly the position of the speed lever will change.
In addition, it is recommended to remove the gearboxes between the wheels, typical for VAZ cars. The axles are removed together with a stocking, and shafts are installed instead for front-wheel drive models. Replacement is carried out in the same way in other parts of the transmission. In general, assembling an ATV from Oka’s car is not difficult, just some parts will require replacement. However, the ATV will have a largely different layout and tasks, which means the assembly will need to be adapted. Transmission is one of the most difficult stages; everything else will not require such effort. If you want to do something unique, do not forget about drawings and calculations. This will give you a solid base to work from.
So, if you decide to tune your Oka, then you can start with anything, since the “field for work” is huge. Before starting work, you will need to clean it and remove everything unnecessary. The most optimal and common tuning option is to install multimedia equipment inside the cabin. Also, for beauty and uniqueness, it is worth replacing the front panel.
It's worth noting that a glove compartment is not included as standard. It may appear after selecting a specific front panel model.
Next, you need to solve the problem with lighting, since factory lighting is suitable for illumination during the day. You can install 2 lamps at the rear of the cabin. There are also a few light bulbs on top, but not very bright. In addition, you can make the front panel illuminated. And for a stronger effect, you can backlight the switches. You will also need to install switches for these lamps somewhere. You need to do this carefully and not look terrible.
Next, you can replace the standard covers and mats with something newer and more beautiful, something that will add zest to your car. You need to choose high-quality cases. Since there are a large number of low-quality covers on the market, you need to choose carefully so that later, while in the car, they do not get damaged or come apart at the seams. Covers need to be of such quality that the fabric is dense and not very elastic. This is necessary so that after you have been sitting in a chair for a long time, when you get up from it, there are no holes or sinkholes left in the seats. Of course, these fabrics are more expensive, but the quality and service life are longer.
But, if your budget allows, you can also replace the upholstery of the chairs.
It is also worth placing rugs, preferably rubber rather than vinyl. Because vinyl ones are not comfortable.
The most important thing is that any tuning should be done based on what you yourself like best, and not what someone advises.
