To flush, pour about 1.3 liters of cleaner into the gearbox housing. Then the front part of the car must be hung, for this the wheels are placed on a jack. Start the engine and engage first gear, press the gas. Due to the fact that the front of the car is raised, you can drive in first gear for several minutes. After this, the procedure for draining the waste fluid from the system is repeated. If the flushing oil is too dirty after cleaning the unit, the procedure must be repeated. After this, wipe the drain and fill plug again. Remove the dipstick from the inspection neck to check the level. Now you can fill it, it is done through the control hole. You must pour fresh oil into the transmission using a syringe with a connected pipe, otherwise you will not be able to refuel the unit. One end of the hose is inserted into the control hole, on the other side the liquid is supplied into the system using a syringe. About 3.1 liters of oil is poured into the gearbox, the volume of the substance is controlled by the dipstick. When the filling procedure is completed, install the meter in place. Reinstall all previously removed components in reverse order. When the process is complete, take a test drive of the machine and check the lubricant level again.

Remove the dipstick from the inspection hole of the Priora gearbox. Unscrew the cap and drain the used oil from the box. Pour fresh lubricant into the unit, monitoring its volume by the level of the dipstick.

Functions of oil in a manual transmission in a car

Lubricant in a manual transmission (MT) essentially has one function - reducing excess friction that occurs during the interaction of moving parts (for reference, a manual transmission is, in fact, a set of various gears and shafts). This is necessary to reduce wear on parts and improve the performance of the gearbox. With increased friction, the speed of the car decreases, changing gears is difficult, fuel consumption increases and problems with the engine begin. Therefore, the functions of the oil in a manual transmission on a Lada Priora are always the same - reducing this very friction to an acceptable level.

A car driver should know what the consequences of using a lubricant that has exhausted its service life are:

  • There are problems with switching speeds. The shift lever moves with some difficulty, and a knocking sound is heard from the gearbox when changing gears.
  • The speed limit changes. With increased fuel consumption, the vehicle speed decreases and the engine makes more noise.
  • The movement of the car is uneven; when the speed decreases, jerks begin, as if you press the brake pedal.

The described signs mean, among other things, that it is time to change the oil. But it is also recommended to check the condition of the fluid itself - in certain situations, the listed problems are caused by breakdowns of other components in the car. Types of gearboxes in LADA Priora

LADA Priora cars were equipped with a mechanical and robotic gearbox.

A manual transmission called VAZ-2170 was used in cars from 2007 to 2015. After 2014, it remained only on 8-valve cars. The transmission was a modernized version of the VAZ-2110 gearbox. This is a 5-speed unit combined with a final drive and differential.

The unit was not highly reliable. Here the gears, bearings and synchronizers wore out quite quickly, and many oil seals began to leak oil at low mileage of the car. In addition, the gear shifts in this box are unclear, the gearshift lever is poorly fixed, and the transmission control drive and clutch require constant adjustment.

Starting from 2015, LADA Priora with 16-valve engines was equipped with a new gearbox called VAZ-2180. It is a deeply modernized version of the VAZ-2112 gearbox. The control mechanism of the new unit is now installed on top, and therefore does not depend on the temperature of the oil, the volume of which has been reduced by 1/3. Rigid shift rods have been replaced with a cable drive, which has reduced noise and vibration of the gearbox. The new box has overcome almost all the diseases of the previous version.

Among the minuses, one can note a crunch when changing gears, oil leaks, and failure to engage gears after a mileage of 50 thousand km. Despite the installation of a cable drive, noise during operation of the transmission and vibration of the lever still remained.

A robotic gearbox called VAZ-2182 AMT was also installed on Prioras with 16-valve units. Structurally, this is the same VAZ-2180 gearbox, where instead of a cable drive, actuators from the German company ZF are responsible for shifting gears.

The manual transmission turned out to be controversial. On the one hand, it has become easier to drive the car, since the clutch pedal has disappeared, but on the other hand, the operation of the unit is unclear and illogical. This was especially true during heavy traffic and traffic jams. AMT problems include transmission overheating, oil leaks, electrical problems and vibration of the gearbox selector.

Replacement instructions

It is better to immediately clean the drain plug from dirt, which in some cases does not even allow you to put an open-end wrench on the plug nut. We put on rubber gloves and goggles, loosen the plug with a key and then rotate it by hand. In this case, we support the container under the drain hole. On the last turns of the thread, you must be prepared to sharply move your hand with the plug to the side and quickly adjust the position of the container under a stream of oil.

Check the lubricant level with a dipstick

If you accidentally drop the plug into the container, remove it after the oil has cooled. When the stream weakens, we place the waste container on the floor or a board laid across the pit. We wait until all the oil drains out, this is approximately 15-20 minutes. After all the lubricant has flowed out of the manual transmission housing, wipe with a rag all the parts that got oil. This will prevent dirt from accumulating around the hole.

We screw the drain plug into place and press it with a wrench with a little force so as not to damage the thread. We install the pan protection in place, and this completes the work under the car. We open the hood of the Priora and find the filler neck of the gearbox with a lubricant level dipstick inserted into it. We take out the dipstick, wipe it with a rag and put it aside. Insert a tube with a funnel into the neck hole and begin pouring new oil.

It should be noted that some oil manufacturers make special canisters with such a tube, in which case a funnel is not needed. The filling process is quite long due to the high viscosity of the lubricant. This should be done in portions, periodically checking the level with a dipstick. You can speed up and make the process easier if you place a canister of new lubricant on a heating radiator or other heated surface a couple of hours before starting work. The oil will become more fluid and will fill the crankcase faster.

The amount of gear lubricant for the Priora gearbox is 3.5 liters according to the manufacturer. Fill until the level on the dipstick is between the max and min marks. We give 10 minutes of time for all the oil to drain into the oil pan, after which we bring the level to the max mark with small additions, if necessary. We take out the tube with the funnel, wipe the area around the neck with a rag and put the dipstick in place. The operation is completed.

Every car enthusiast who owns a Lada Priora car can independently change the lubricant in the gearbox of their car. It may take more time than specialists at a service station, but it will allow you to save money and gain confidence in the quality of the work performed.
