Apply engine oil to the filter O-ring.

We wrap the oil filter by hand until the sealing ring touches the oil filter bracket. Then turn the filter another 3/4 turn to seal the connection. Pour 3.3 liters of oil into the engine through the oil filler neck. Screw the oil filler cap clockwise. We start the engine for 1–2 minutes. We make sure that the indicator of insufficient (emergency) oil pressure in the engine in the instrument cluster has gone out and there are no oil leaks from under the plug and filter. If necessary, tighten the drain plug and filter. We stop the engine, after a few minutes (so that the oil has time to drain into the oil pan), check the oil level and bring it to normal.

Checking the oil level

If the oil level in a new car does not require regular checking, then over time this procedure will need to be carried out more often. There are cases when the engine begins to require adding fluid of 0.5 liters or more after a mileage of only 20,000 kilometers. If such a fact occurs and the car is under warranty, you must contact official dealers to find out the reason.

The oil level is checked in the traditional way - using an oil dipstick with the engine turned off after 20-30 minutes after stopping it. When removing the measuring element, do not try to turn it upside down. Take the measurement with the probe in a vertical position.

How to distinguish a fake from an original filter on a Hyundai Solaris

You can purchase consumables, including MF, in various places, namely:

  • at the car market;
  • in a specialized store;
  • in online catalogues;
  • through intermediaries.

Given the breadth of choice, for an inexperienced owner the risk of purchasing non-original products increases due to insufficient knowledge of unmasking factors.

When selecting consumables, be sure to check the availability of:

  • and integrity of branded cardboard packaging;
  • holographic protection from the front of the package;
  • factory stamp with batch number, date of manufacture, country of origin;
  • rubber seal on the inner diameter of the MF.

When purchasing, check for a quality certificate or other documentary materials indicating the origin of the product. If in doubt, refuse.

How to choose an oil change?

The 4-speed automatic transmission of the Hyundai Solaris 1.4 liter is filled with a semi-synthetic composition of the SP-3 standard. You can use original formulations: Hyundai ATF SP-3 from Mobis or DIAMOND ATF SP-3/SK−3. The cost of a 4-liter Hyundai ATF canister is 2300–2500 rubles, DIAMOND ATF from Mitsubishi is 3000 rubles. The article number of the original fluid is 0450000400, the filter is 46321–23001.

It is also allowed to use analogues of Chevron, Multi Vehicle, Aisin ATF AFW+, Shell, Zic ATF with the SP−3 quality standard. All of them provide equally stable and efficient operation. For a 6-speed automatic transmission, synthetics with SP-4 approval are recommended.

Choosing an oil base

Choosing engine oil for Hyundai Solaris

More often, the question of selecting oil for Hyundai Solaris most likely relates to problematic engines. Mineral, semi-synthetic and synthetic oils can contain the same properties for operation, can be endowed with the same classifications and specifications and have differences only in thickness and differences in bases. Oils of different thicknesses, with the same operating properties, can in certain situations temporarily solve specific problems of a worn-out engine.

For example, a mineral oil SAE 15W - 40 will have a slightly higher kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees when compared with most synthetic oils with a viscosity of 5W - 40. This way, in a maintained engine at operating temperature, you can create a thicker and stronger oil film, thus providing protection against further wear and stabilization of system components. The level of oil waste is reduced and an engine using mineral oil, when compared with semi-synthetics and synthetics, creates the appearance of normal operation.

General conclusions about choosing oil

When the engine is fresh or there are no complaints in its operation, Hyundai Solaris engine oil is suitable synthetic and semi-synthetic (if their use is allowed) with the recommended parameters. It is prohibited to replace Solaris oil with low temperature viscosity HTHS< 3.5 mPas in cars that are not designed to use these types of oil (usually this happens in cars before 2000). Switching to semi-synthetic and mineral oils when the engine is normal is not justified.

When an engine has problems, it is best to understand the problem. In certain situations, such as a worn motor, slight knocking, problems with seals, a more viscous type makes it possible to smooth out engine malfunctions. To do this, you need to monitor the oil level.

Leaks and problems

The longer the mileage of the Hyundai Solaris, the more problems appear, as in principle in any car. Some motorists are beginning to complain about increased oil consumption. Others continue to use the car, citing the fact that it is normal to burn 1-2 liters from replacement to replacement.

The most common place where a leak appears is the joint between the engine and gearbox. The culprit is most likely the plug of the engine block, but without removing the gearbox, the problem cannot be solved. The problem is quite widespread; the manufacturer recognizes the problem and fixes everything under warranty.

Also, this problem may have other causes, such as a leaking crankshaft oil seal or a leaking input shaft oil seal. But these cases are much less common and are not widespread.

Choosing oil depending on the season

When changing oil on a Hyundai Solaris in the warm season, a mineral oil with a viscosity of 15W - 40 or 20W - 50 (if the manufacturer allows their use) may be suitable for worn engines. Also in winter and in the off-season you should choose synthetic and semi-synthetic oil with a high viscosity level. It can be 5W - 50, 10W - 50, or 10W - 60.

When oils with high viscosity are used, it is worth replacing more often, almost 2 times. This is because the oil oxidizes more quickly on a worn engine and contains more viscosity additives.

Under the influence of high operating temperatures, the additives change their properties and structure and, as a result, the viscosity decreases, and the particles formed during destruction additionally form carbon deposits and deposits. The frequency of oil changes should also be reduced if there is a change from one type of base to another.

How often do you need to change the oil in Solaris?

According to the instructions, changing the oil in the Hyundai Solaris engine should be done every 15 thousand kilometers. However, the same instructions say that when operating the car in extreme conditions, this interval should be halved. Since extreme conditions, according to the manufacturer, are circumstances that are quite familiar to our car enthusiast, such as frost, high dust, driving with frequent stops, then in fact the interval between engine oil changes should be 7-7 thousand kilometers. In addition, if the car has not been used for a long time, it is also advisable to change the oil.

Step-by-step instruction

To carry out an oil change yourself, you need to follow the following instructions:

  1. First you need to open the hood of the car and remove the cap from the oil reservoir;
  2. Next, the used lubricant is drained. To do this, place a reservoir with a funnel under the drain plug, remove the lid and wait for the final drainage of the liquid. To speed up the process, warm up the engine before replacing;
  3. The plug is closed, the engine protection is put back;
  4. The filter is being replaced. In some cases it will be necessary to use a special puller. Before installing a new one, it is necessary to fill it with fresh oil in a small amount;
  5. Oil is poured into the reservoir. It is necessary to ensure that the liquid does not exceed the maximum mark in the tank.

Selecting a filter element

When changing the lubricant of the power unit, it is important to replace the filter. This device is designed to clean consumables from dirt and impurities, as well as deposits. The manufacturer recommends using original KIA/Hyundai Genuine Parts filters in Korean-made cars. You can replace such a device with an analogue, for example, from the manufacturer Bosch or MANN.

Another question that concerns the owners of this model is what kind of oil should be poured into the engine so that it functions properly? The manufacturer indicates that the desired option is a 5w30 grade lubricant. Despite this, much depends on the conditions in which the machine will be operated, primarily climatic.

For northern regions, thinner oil is required, otherwise you will constantly experience starting problems. If the region is not one of the coldest, then it is better to buy exactly the products that the manufacturer recommends.

For those who are planning to master the technology of how to replace the lubricant in their own garage, without resorting to the services of experienced specialists, we inform you that the entire procedure will not take more than 30 minutes of your time. In addition to what you will need to buy the engine oil itself with a filter element, you will also need a container for disposal, several clean rags, a wrench size 13, and also a special wrench that is used to unscrew the oil filter. Not every car enthusiast has it, so worry about it in advance.

It remains to consider which manufacturers’ products are best used for Solaris engines. According to the technical book, the oil recommended by the manufacturer is Shell Helix Ultra 5W30. However, other products are also quite suitable, the main thing is that they match the viscosity and tolerances.

This could be the Liqui Molly brand lubricant of the Special Tec series, Mobil 5W30, Castrol Magnatec 5W30, Hyundai Premium Gasoline, as well as a number of other lubricants. Interestingly, the oil system should hold 3.6–3.7 liters in volume, but in practice it often fits no more than 3.3 liters.

So, friends, we were able to make sure that changing the lubricant in a Hyundai engine with your own hands is not at all as difficult as it seems at first glance. To do this, we examined in detail the algorithm of actions and other features. For those who find this insufficient, they can find a video on the relevant topic on the global network to make the process more visual. Read us in the next issues, it will be interesting and useful. Bye!

Consequences of untimely replacement

If you don't change the oil on time, the saddest consequence will be failure of the car's engine. The car owner will have to do major repairs, which is quite expensive. The internal elements of the engine will begin to wear out faster due to oil starvation, and the pressure in the lubrication system will drop.

As a result, the power of the power unit will begin to decrease, dips will appear when you press the gas pedal, the engine will “triple”, and the hydraulic compensators will begin to knock. There will be difficulties starting the engine in cold weather; its wear and tear when operating in cold conditions will increase several times.

What kind of oil to pour

Before changing the lubricant, every motorist asks questions about “how often to change the lubricant” and “what kind of oil to fill.”

It is best for Hyundai Solaris owners to pay attention to the official recommendations, which advise carrying out maintenance, including changing the lubricant, at least after every 15,000 km.

If there are special operating conditions, such as sudden temperature changes or large weight loads on the vehicle, the lubricant should be replaced twice as often as usual.

It is also worth thinking about what kind of oil to fill in the Hyundai Solaris. Today there is a large selection of different types of motor lubricant from a large number of manufacturers. It is best to choose any option from foreign analogues, since their products have the fewest counterfeits.

Domestic manufacturers are not doing so well now, as evidenced by the fact that 90% of all counterfeits have their names and brands.

There is an SAE system by which you can make a choice both for this car and for the Hyundai Getz, as well as other models of the South Korean company.

The main parameters that people pay attention to when choosing an oil are viscosity and temperature characteristics.

There are basically nine oil options, 6 of which are designed for use in the winter season. You can distinguish them from the summer version by the letter “W” from the word winter (winter in English). The number after this letter indicates the viscosity level of the liquid. For different temperature modes, a different option is selected, since in some cases there is no need for the driver to overpay for improved characteristics that he does not need.

There are also off-season options for engine lubricant. Before choosing which oil to pour into the engine, you should pay attention to off-season modifications of the lubricant, which can be distinguished from others by two numbers after the letter. These numbers indicate the viscosity range. This lubricant is well suited for temperate climates with small temperature changes.

It is also worth noting that for both this model and the Hyundai Solaris, the required temperature ranges may vary depending on the type of engine used.

The following characteristics also influence the selection of motor lubricant:

  • the quality of the fuel used, which directly affects the performance of the car;
  • starter rated power;
  • what condition the motor is in;
  • minimum values of shaft rotation speed.

Taking these parameters into account, you can select oil for both the above-mentioned car model and the Hyundai Getz.

What kind of filter is on the car?

On the first generation Solaris from 2011 to 2022, two filters were used. The first, numbered 26300-35503, was installed until November 12, 2015, the second, numbered 26300-35504, was used from November 12, 2015 until the end of the vehicle’s production.

Both are completely interchangeable with each other. Any one can be used.

26300-35504 and 26300-35503 oil filters

In 504 the number of filter elements is greater than in 503, consider the resource added.

Suppliers for the conveyor are two companies MANN and DONGYANG

MANN filter

DONGYANG filter

They can also be distinguished by the letter on the filter itself.

M is MANN and Y DONGYANG.

The same filter can be found in both Hyundai and Kia packaging.

There are currently 3 types of packaging designs on the market.

What to fill?

Fans of the Korean manufacturer prefer to choose oils from Hyundai , either synthetic Premium LF (05100-00451), or semi-synthetic Super Extra (05100-00410). If this option is not available, you can choose any Shell .

Replacement frequency

The Hyundai Solaris oil filter can be changed without much difficulty. If you've never done this, just follow our instructions. Hyundai recommends changing the engine oil and filter every 20 thousand kilometers, but for our operating conditions this is too much.

The frequency may be reduced in the following cases:

  • you refuel with low-quality fuel;
  • operate the car in extreme conditions;
  • buy inexpensive oil and filters.

In this case, it makes sense to change the engine oil every 10 thousand kilometers or even more often.
