Japanese engine oil - types and classification

I have been working with cars for over ten years and try to use only high-quality oils. Some of the best such oils are motor oils from Japan.

I also have the best knowledge of the car industry and have some experience working in an engine shop. Many of my friends consult with me and try different engine oils after my recommendations. In the article I tell you which oils from Japan are the highest quality and analyze several of them.

You will receive useful advice from the master.

During operation, the engine of any car can wear out over the years and even in the early stages be subject to strong friction during its operation, as well as undergo corrosion, which only worsens the condition of the car and also acts to the detriment of the engine. In order for you to have the opportunity to significantly influence the engine and prevent such undesirable moments during its operation, car owners are engaged in the most important manipulation activities, which include replacing the engine mixture.

The overall reliability and operation of the engine for many years will greatly depend on the viscosity and quality of this lubricant.

Remember that high-quality oil in an internal combustion engine only benefits it and can prevent corrosion; in addition, high-quality lubricant eliminates constant friction when driving at high speeds, therefore, high-quality lubricant can protect all components of your power unit from rapid wear during operation.

TOP Japanese oils for cars

Oils from Japan will be the best choice of a car owner who respects his car and wants to drive it for as long as possible. For this reason, all those who like to ride with the breeze dream of the appearance on the market of a universal product with a long shelf life and better chemical properties. Such a product is oils from Japan.

Many experts are of the opinion that lubricants from Japan and, in general, foreign-made automobile spare parts can guarantee the highest level of protection for the propulsion system; for this reason, during their next visit to the car market, car owners closely examine the display cases, which contain large quantities of foreign-made products.

No one will say that a foreign product (especially a product from Japan) in terms of basic operating parameters is on the list of leaders among all world lubricants. However, this is true. Oils from Japan have the most modern additives and generally the best characteristics on the market, but before you make your final choice in favor of the best product, you should decide which brand is trustworthy and which one is better to give your preference.

Japanese quality and highest standard

New car enthusiasts are often tormented by various doubts: is it necessary to use Japanese motor lubricants in their car, since the product is clearly not cheap?

Refusal to purchase high-quality motor lubricants from Japan is usually due to the fact that car owners are faced with bad reviews about expensive oils.

But another problem is that all existing foreign oils actually have special properties, creating suitable conditions for the most harmonious operation of the systems in the car.

It is worth considering that almost all the bad reviews about Japanese oils come because the automobile market is overflowing not only with high-quality products, but also with high-quality fakes. Whereas you can only get real mixtures for motors from Japan in specialized places.

Car markets offer Japanese lubricants for internal combustion engines from different manufacturers. All of them are made at the highest level in terms of their performance properties, but if you need to purchase the ideal product for your car, offers from Mitasu are an excellent option. Most of the company's products are aimed at cars with a mileage of more than 40 thousand km.

JX Nippon Oil also guarantees a best-in-class oil product called NEOS. If you think about how it is translated, then the word has the translation “new energy”. 80 percent of automakers advise using MM ENEOS series oil, which only confirms its superior quality and one of the first places in the top rating of foreign engine oil mixtures.

Idemitsu engine oil

If you want to ensure smooth operation of the engine and its agility on the track, especially if you participate in some kind of racing, then it is recommended to pay attention to the best Japanese oil under the designation Cosmo. True, it will not be so easy to buy this product in Russia in the same car shops, and even more so in car markets.

If you see a bottle with the desired mixture, don’t rush to rejoice and buy this product, most likely it’s just another fake canister, of which there are a carload and a small cart on the shelves. If the desire to receive this product is prohibitive, then go online and find a service or look at a site that can deliver the desired product for you directly from abroad.

I would also add a couple of sentences about synthetic oils from Japan. Sumico synthetic lubricants have good properties, the list of which includes advanced additives, many of which contain molybdenum, so this product guarantees better operation of the internal combustion engine system.

Product advantages

All Takayama engine oils meet the highest GF5 standard of the ILSAC lubricant classification, which implies the possibility of use as a lubricant for power units using biofuel. Oils of this class are distinguished by improved protection against corrosion processes and wear, higher fuel efficiency, excellent protection against sludge formation processes as a result of incomplete combustion of fuel, and almost complete compatibility with all common sealing materials.

Other advantages of oils under the Takayama brand:

  • low phosphorus content, which guarantees a prolonged catalyst life;
  • low viscosity ensures the smoothest and easiest engine starting, allowing you to save fuel;
  • low foaming rate – reliable protection of engines when operating in extreme conditions;
  • low fluid volatility ensures reduced exhaust levels;
  • high-quality protection of components and parts of power units from contamination, excellent antioxidant properties, the ability to maintain composition stability throughout the entire service life;
  • Excellent wear resistance of the lubricant, allowing you to increase the oil change interval and the operating time of exhaust gas treatment systems.

One cannot fail to note the low cost of Takayama oils (compared to other brands of Japanese origin).

Sumico engine oil

High-quality semi-synthetic oil is made by Mitasu, a Japanese company. It is especially convenient to use this product in the engines of cars that have been able to cover about sixty thousand kilometers.

In short, I told you about the main oils from Japan and gave you recommendations for choosing them. All you have to do is make this very choice, which of the described lubricants will be optimal. Either way, all of the products listed above are best-in-class quality and will help your engine last long in hot and cold weather!

About fake

And now a little about “sort of Japanese” oils. There is quite a lot of counterfeiting of Japanese brands, although this is illegal.

There is a simpler way - a company is registered in Japan (often the place of registration is a private house), and at a factory in Taiwan or China they begin to mix oil from unknown raw materials and sell it as 100% Japanese.

The main thing is aggressive advertising and a name that will sound as Japanese as possible.

Well, and of course, more hieroglyphs on the packaging. This, of course, does not make the oil Japanese, but sales are coming and there is a result. And from the point of view of the law, there seems to be nothing to complain about.

A great example is Mitasu oils. The Hong Kong-based company, founded in 2010, has suddenly become Japan's No. 1 oil maker, according to massive advertising. If you believe the advertising, the company creates world-class products, and the best minds of humanity work on their production.

An important fact is that the brand is cheaper than its competitors by a quarter, or even a third. And, of course, the oils are absolutely Japanese, which is indicated several times in large print on the containers. However, the barcode on the packaging will lead those interested to Malaysia, and the customs coordinates to Singapore.

Despite such inconsistencies, Mitasu oils are quite successfully sold in Russia. And most buyers consider them to be of quite high quality.

It is worth noting that most of these “pseudo-Japanese” oils are produced in Korea from very high-quality raw materials, using quite modern technologies. The output is quite high-quality oils, their characteristics do not match those of Japanese ones, but they are very good. But it is worth understanding that these oils have a very dubious relationship with Japan.

When buying Japanese oil, you should pay attention to the price - it cannot be low, and to the packaging - it usually has several degrees of protection against counterfeiting. DVR NEOLINE X-COP 9100S

Checking the amount of lubricant

Before you start checking the oil in the gearbox, you need to find the place under the car hood where the checking dipstick is located (try not to confuse it with the dipstick for checking the lubrication in the car).

It is more rare to see the inscription COLD, in other words it means “cold”. If your dipstick says COLD, this does not mean that you should check the amount of oil in the box when the engine is cold. In some boxes, the lubricant needs to be given a certain amount of time to warm up properly, then you should turn off the car engine and look at the amount of oil. If you check the amount of lubricant when the engine is cold, the test results will be erroneous.

If the amount of lubricant in the automatic transmission is maximum, the fluid may also begin to foam as a result of interaction with oxygen and contact with the internal parts of the engine. The resulting consequences of the reaction will cause engine failure.

I would also note that the foam mixture will begin to increase in volume, and the working surplus will quickly be removed through the internal breather of the box. This is dangerous for the motor and gearbox.

conclusions

Japanese oils for engine systems are suitable if you own an imported car made in America, Japan or Europe. Such products are not intended for old-style domestic cars: the buyer will only spend a large amount of money without ultimately receiving the expected result.

European drivers are “spoiled” by a large number of brands and modifications of motor oils. At the same time, some are interested in the question of what kind of motor oils the Japanese pour into their cars. The Land of the Rising Sun has always aroused curiosity among domestic drivers operating cars of Asian concerns.

Video

Having found out what kind of motor oils the Japanese pour into their cars, you can determine what kind of liquid you can choose to fill in your “Japanese”. Car enthusiasts of the land of the rising sun know better what their domestic cars need.

It should be noted that Japanese and Korean cars have more stringent requirements for oil quality standards. At the end of the 20th century, Japanese manufacturers produced cars that only fit the API (American Petroleum Institute) category. But in recent years, due to the increasing complexity of the structure of engines, as well as stricter environmental standards, the range of oils that are suitable for cars of the latest generations has narrowed. Since the 2000s, Japanese car engines have been filled with energy-saving oils that meet the requirements of ILSAC (International Committee for Standardization and Approval of Motor Oils). At the moment, most original Japanese oils are exactly like this, that is, they correspond to ILSAC categories from GF-3 and higher. They differ significantly from those that are poured into the engines of European-made cars: compared to most European ones, Japanese oils are “thinner”. However, with a fairly large number of Japanese cars on our roads, the main share of motor oils that are presented on the Belarusian market are European.
