A popular car among domestic car enthusiasts, it often exhibits vagaries and all sorts of wiring glitches. Nissan Primera errors can be considered in several ways. The first option is self-diagnosis. The capabilities of the on-board computer are used here, which is quite convenient. The procedure does not require additional equipment. The downside is the inaccuracy of the readings. The sequence of actions can only show the branch of the wiring where you need to look for the problem.
The second option is more complex and requires special diagnostic equipment. The point is to connect a scanner to your car and follow the manufacturer's instructions. The main advantage is the ability to accurately determine the location of the breakdown.
Timeless relevance
The interior of this car is not only indicative, but also quite original.
Manufacturers equipped it with specialized chrome handles, a custom dashboard and tinted glass. The Nissan primera p12 was produced in Europe until 2007, and was subsequently discontinued due to low demand and popularity. However, domestic motorists still use such cars to this day due to their high performance and technical characteristics. Since the number of users of such a car on the domestic market is not decreasing, the question naturally arises: how to do self-diagnosis? To understand such nuances, you need not only to know the various features of the car. You will also need to study its features and step-by-step instructions created by competent professional service center specialists.

Characteristics
Professional service center specialists claim that every owner of a Nissan Primera p12 vehicle needs to know how to independently diagnose this vehicle. This is due to the fact that the unit is equipped with a modern innovative system, which requires periodic inspection.
Professional service center specialists diagnose the unit using special technical equipment. This allows you to complete all the necessary actions in a short time. There are situations when the user is not always able to get to the service station on his own in a timely manner. In this case, it is necessary to take various actions to prevent the car from breaking down, which can lead to quite expensive repairs.
Car diagnostics involves reading certain errors. To implement it correctly, you must follow the basic recommendations of professionals and correctly interpret the indicated errors. This is the only way to avoid serious unforeseen situations.
For example - Nissan Primera!
- Problems with the air flow meter: either in the circuit, or not regulated, or low/high reading – P0100 – P104;
- The air pressure sensor has failed or is failing - P0105. High/low signal level - P0107, P0108.
And further, according to the list (and it consists of many positions - it is quite long, so there is no point in citing it in full in this article). A complete table to decipher possible errors, as already recommended, should be on hand just in case, in the glove compartment, for example. Who knows what might be useful on a long journey? In addition, it is not always possible to find appropriate equipment between populated areas or in small towns.
Therefore, knowing how to self-diagnose a Nissan Primera P12 is not as useless as some, especially novice drivers, think. Like, I still won’t delve into the insides of the car, but at the service station they will do the diagnostics much more thoroughly and professionally. But thinking like this is a gross mistake, because self-diagnosis of the engine, carried out in time (if you find the wrong sound or leak, for example, on the road), can suggest the sequence of further actions and save you from more serious system problems, leading, accordingly, to more serious costs.
How to check?
One of the main reasons to diagnose a Nissan car is the illuminated Check Engine icon on the instrument cluster. To read error codes, either a special scanner is used, connected to a connector in the vehicle’s on-board network, or a special self-diagnosis system. Deciphering Nissan error codes will allow you to identify the failed unit and carry out repairs.
On some Nissans, for example, the Sunny model, owners are unable to enter self-diagnosis mode. To read errors on them, an ELM scanner is used, which is inserted into the diagnostic connector. Error data is transmitted to a regular laptop or smartphone.
Auto Selection 24 RF shows in this video the diagnostics of a Nissan Murano.
Reading errors in self-diagnosis mode
Launching the diagnostic mode on the Nissan Primera P12 is done as follows:
- Turn on the ignition and wait 3 seconds.
- Press and release the gas pedal 5 times within 5 seconds.
- 7 seconds after the last press, fully press the gas pedal again and hold it for 10 seconds.
- If everything is done correctly, the Check Engine icon will start flashing on the Nissan Primera P12 instrument cluster.
- Release the gas pedal.
- The blinking icon indicates error codes in four-digit format. The first digit of the code is shown in long flashes, followed by the digits of the second character, etc., which are shown in short flashes. There is a 2 second break between the display of numbers. The number of flashes is equal to the value of the number in the error code, except for the number 0 - it is indicated by ten flashes. If there are several errors, they will be displayed sequentially.
- You can reset errors by pressing the gas pedal for 10 seconds while remaining in diagnostic mode. The Check Engine icon will show code 0000.
- Turn off the ignition.
For example, error code 1514 (open in the engine idle speed control signal circuit) will be displayed as:
- 1 - one long flash, then a pause of almost 2 seconds.
- 5 - five short flashes with an interval of 1 second, after which there will be a pause for 2 seconds.
- 1 - one short flash and a pause for 2 seconds.
- 4 - four short flashes every 1 second each.
Error codes are read in the same way on the following Nissan models:
- Tiida;
- Almera H16 and Almera Classic;
- Laptop;
- Ixtrail;
- Qashqai;
- Teana;
- Murano;
- Navara.
The video (author Nikolai Nikolaevich) shows the procedure for reading errors on a 2007 Nissan Tiida.
On the earlier Nissan Primera P11, the procedure for reading errors is different:
- Simultaneously press and hold the daily mileage reset and clock settings buttons.
- Turn on the ignition and release the buttons.
- Self-diagnosis will start, during which the speedometer, tachometer and fuel level needles will simultaneously move from the minimum reading to the maximum and back.
- The error code is displayed on the odometer screen by pressing any button on the combination - the first press shows the software version, the second will display the error codes directly on the screen.
It should be remembered that engine errors on P11 are not read this way. Another procedure is used for this:
- Turn on the ignition.
- Open the cover of the fuse box in the driver's left foot area.
- Place a jumper in the diagnostic connector between the IGN and CHK contacts. On pre-restyling P11s, it is necessary to close the rightmost contacts in the top row. On restyled P11 144, the leftmost and rightmost contacts in the bottom row of the block are closed.
- After two seconds, remove the jumper.
- By flashing the Check Engine light, you can determine the error code. Long flashes give the first character of the code, short ones - the second. The number of flashes corresponds to the meaning of the symbol. On the restyled P11 144, the error codes will already be four-digit.
- Turn off the ignition.
On a right-hand drive Nissan Winroad, equipped with a mechanically driven gas pedal, errors are also displayed by closing the pins in the diagnostic contact. The connector has a slightly different appearance.

How to start the self-diagnosis process?
The verification process itself is preceded by a certain procedure to start the mode.
- Turn off the ignition for at least 10 seconds;
- Insert the key into the ignition again and turn it to “ON” for 3 seconds;
- Next – 5 pressures in 5 seconds: press the gas pedal all the way to the floor;
- We wait 7 seconds. and fully depress the corresponding pedal one more time, holding it for 10 seconds. in a recessed position (the Check-Engine indicator should blink);
- Tip:
It’s best to count seconds with a stopwatch (for example, on your phone or watch). But you can also pronounce at a leisurely pace: 1, 2, 3, etc.; - Release the pedal completely and count the number of blinks of the Check-Engine lamp. There will be many of them - short and long. The main thing: do not yawn and watch carefully, reading possible errors.
Note:
the absence of one or another error is accompanied by 10 consecutive flashes. And one more thing: fault codes are 4-digit and consist of short and long blinks. If we want to reset the error code, press the gas pedal for 10 seconds. To exit the self-diagnosis mode, turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position. Or - another option - we start the engine, the Check-Engine indicator goes out.
Computer diagnostics
This procedure is performed using a PC or laptop, on which you must first install the verification program:
- A diagnostic adapter is required. With its help you need to connect the computer and the block. It is usually located in the center console of the car, to the left of the steering wheel. Can be installed in a fuse box.
- The ignition is activated; on some car models this is not necessary. It is necessary to clarify in the service book.
- The computer runs the verification software. If the software requires it, you can select certain systems to be diagnosed. The process of testing machine components begins.
- Error codes that are present in the operation of the car will be displayed on the PC or laptop screen. All of them must be deciphered and eliminated.
User Vyacheslav Kravchenko spoke in detail about the procedure for computer diagnostics of a Nissan car.
Self-diagnosis of the p11 dashboard – nissan primera p11 – primera club
There is also self-diagnosis of the P11 dorestayl dashboard. 1. You need to simultaneously press and hold two buttons on the panel (resetting the odometer and setting the clock) 2. While holding the buttons, turn on the ignition and release both buttons. 3. Self-diagnosis will start, the fuel level needles, speedometer and tachometer will rise from 0 to maximum. The temperature arrow is not involved in self-diagnosis.
To switch self-diagnosis modes, you can press any of the keys on the dashboard, or the key on the end of the wipers.
In the first mode it shows the version of the dashboard, in the second there are error codes if any.
To decipher error codes, we will need to convert the error code into a binary calculation system. For example, the picture shows code 0141, or simply 141. For translation, you can use online calculator No. 1 and No. 2
After translating our number, we get the binary code 10001101 which consists of 8 characters. Now we need to mark with crosses in the table those cells where we have errors, in the second Line in the diagram. That is, according to our code, these are the first, fifth, sixth and eighth cells.
The same is done with other code.
Picture from the official manual in English.
Reading error codes
In self-diagnosis mode, as mentioned above, flashes of the corresponding indicator light indicate 4-digit codes. In the first digit, the duration of the barrel winks is longer than the subsequent ones. And the numbers themselves are divided into intervals of 1 second, and the codes are divided into approximately 2 seconds. If there are several errors, then they are encoded one after another. “Zero” (no fault) is indicated by 10 flashes.
It is advisable to have a table of error codes before your eyes (as a rule, it is published in the operating manual - it is better if in Russian). The error number consists of a Latin letter and 4 digits. What do they mean?
- Letter P – malfunction in the engine compartment and transmission;
- The first digit is the main SAE code;
- Second digit:
if 1 or 2, then there is trouble with the supply of air or fuel (injector). If 3 – there is a problem with the ignition system. 4th – with control of the exhaust process, 5 – speed and idle. 6 – ECU. 7, 8 – with transmission; - The two digits on the far right indicate the immediate error code.
Error codes
In order to correctly interpret errors after self-diagnosis, it is recommended to use a specialized table, which is located in the vehicle’s operating manual. The error code for Nissan vehicles consists of four numbers and a Latin letter. Not everyone knows what exactly these or other codes mean:
- P – indicates a malfunction in the engine or transmission;
- The first digit of the code means SAE;
- The second digit of the code indicates a variety of problems associated with the supply of air or specialized fuel;
- The third digit of the code indicates malfunctions related to the ignition system;
- The 4th digit of the error is a malfunction of the exhaust process controller;
- The 5th digit is idle speed and speed;
- Number 6 indicates ECU malfunctions;
- 7 and 8 - this error code number indicates a problem related to the transmission;
- The rightmost digits are the immediate error code.
In other words, it will be quite difficult to deal with vehicle malfunctions after self-diagnosis without having a specialized table at hand. Therefore, in order to avoid multiple errors, it is necessary to initially prepare an operating manual for the unit and find a table with error codes.
The interpretation of Nissan error codes is presented in this table.
Malfunction | Description and recommendations for elimination |
11 | The microprocessor module receives an incorrect signal coming from the crankshaft rotation controller. If the sensor is not working, problems with starting the engine may occur. |

Combinations of injection system errors
The table shows the interpretation of injection system error codes.
Problem | Description |
P0171-P0175 | Malfunctions in the operation of the power unit were recorded. In particular, errors were made in its cylinders during the formation of the air-fuel mixture. Sometimes on a Nissan Primera P12, these combinations indicate problems in the functioning of the oxygen or mass air flow controllers |
P0200 | The microprocessor module reported an incorrect signal coming from one of the engine injectors. First of all, it is recommended to diagnose the circuit of these elements |
P0201-P0212 | Incorrect functioning of the injectors in one of the 12 cylinders of the unit is reported. Detailed device diagnostics required |
P0213, P0214 | The engine control unit detected a malfunction in the operation of the first or second injectors during startup. Repairing devices in such cases is usually impractical; they need to be replaced |
P0215 | This error indicates a malfunction or improper functioning of the internal combustion engine stop valve. It is necessary to check the operation of the device in more detail, and if necessary, replace it |
P0216 | The microprocessor module detected problems in the functioning of the electrical circuit for adjusting the ignition timing. You need to check the wiring |
P0217 | The control unit reports overheating of the power unit. If this problem occurs while driving, then the engine must be turned off and the cause found out. The engine compartment should be opened to allow the unit to cool down faster. You cannot drive further with this problem, as this can lead to a fire in the engine fluid. Its ignition will cause an explosion of the internal combustion engine. |
P0218 | Overheating of the transmission unit is reported. Therefore, the engine must be stopped and the reason why the gearbox is not functioning correctly is determined. If you constantly use a car with an overheated transmission, this will lead to rapid wear of its main components and elements. As a result, the gearbox may fail |
P0219 | The microprocessor module reports the operation of the power unit at high speeds. It is necessary to determine the cause of the problem |
P0243 | Malfunction or failure of the first solenoid of the turbocharger device is reported |
P0244-P0246 | The microprocessor module has detected incorrect adjustment of solenoid element 1 of the turbocharger. This device may not output the correct signal. Electrical circuit diagnostics required. Using a multimeter, check the wiring for breaks and also adjust the solenoid. If necessary, the device must be replaced |
P0247-P0250 | The control module reported a failure of the second turbocharger solenoid. The electrical circuit is checked and the device is adjusted |
P0230-P0233 | The control unit has registered incorrect operation of the primary or secondary circuit of the fuel pump. The cause of the problem may be the appearance of breaks in the wiring in a certain area |
P0234 | The microprocessor module reports an overload of the power unit. You need to find out the cause of the problem and fix it. Regular use of such a car will lead to faster wear of the internal combustion engine. |
P0261-P0296 | When one of the Nissan error codes appears, a problem is reported in the functioning of the engine cylinders:
In case of these problems, the electrical wiring is first diagnosed for damage and breaks. It is also necessary to balance a device that is not functioning correctly. |
P0300-P0312 | The microprocessor module of the Nissan car detected a violation of the ignition order. The problem may affect one of the 12 cylinders. Detailed diagnostics of the power unit is required |
The KV Avtoservis channel spoke in detail about the causes of a lean and rich combustible mixture in the engine cylinders.
Problems with electrical wiring
A similar problem is error U1000, in which the car starts, but the Check Engine symbol is on while driving. One of the owners experienced this error on a 2002 Almera N16 with a manual transmission after replacing the central control unit. The cause of the problem was the use of a block from a car with an automatic transmission. On one of the 2011 Nissan Teanas, the cause of this error was poor contact in the control unit wiring. In any case, the cause of such an error can only be determined through a full diagnosis.
On a diesel Nissan Qashqai 2009 with a 1.5-liter diesel engine, error C1130 was observed together with C1131. The reason was oxidized contacts on the ESP system unit and on the exhaust gas sensor. Occasionally, error B2082 occurs, associated with a malfunction of the sensors in the back of the passenger seat.
CAN bus faults
One of the most common errors on Nissan Note is U1001, in which case the car may not start, stall, or not maintain idle speed for a year. This error indicates problems in the operation of the vehicle's CAN bus - there is no connection between the control unit and the rest of the electrical system units. The cause may be damage to the wiring or failure of the unit. Only a qualified diagnostician can indicate the exact cause. When the battery charge was low, error 1212 was recorded on several Nissan Micras, which indicates a lack of communication between the ABS and TCS units via the CAN bus.
This is interesting: Kia Rio 3 fuse diagram - where the blocks are located
Sensors
On the Murano Z50, error P1051 is often encountered, signaling a malfunction of the first oxygen sensor. There is only one way to correct the error - replacing the sensor. A common error for older cars is 0115, indicating a breakdown of the temperature sensor. This problem affects both left-hand drive and right-hand drive cars, such as the Nissan March. On Nissan Qashqai and other cars, error P1147 occurs, which is accompanied by a slight increase in fuel consumption. This error signals the failure of the second lambda probe located behind the catalyst.
On the newest Nissan X Trail T31 from 2014 and newer, directional stability sensor error C1145 occurs. When replacing this sensor, you need to carefully look at how the old one was installed, since it only functions in one position.
Other problems
Problems that are not included in the previous sections are presented in the table.
Code | Description and recommendations for elimination |
P1212 | Using this combination, the microprocessor module reports malfunctions that have appeared in the operation of the car’s CAN bus. The problem may be the disappearance of the signal between the control unit and the anti-lock braking system ECU. It is necessary to carry out more detailed diagnostics of the connector and contacts; they may become clogged or oxidized |
P0335 | With this code, the control unit reports problems in the functioning of the crankshaft position controller. Perhaps the cause of the malfunction lies in its electrical circuit. It is necessary to carry out detailed diagnostics of the sensor and check the integrity of the wiring. If the controller really does not work correctly and the signal from it disappears, then difficulties will arise with starting the engine. If the sensor is completely out of order, you will not be able to start the engine. |
P0340 | The microprocessor module reports incorrect operation of the electrical circuit on the line section from the control device to the camshaft or detonation controller. Practice shows that error code 0340 rarely directly indicates a regulator malfunction. Usually the problem is damaged wiring or poor contact between the device and the electrical circuit. |
P1320 | The control unit reports a poor-quality ignition signal. The cause of malfunction 1320 may be a breakdown of the safety device that is responsible for the operation of this system. The contact in the electrical wiring may not work correctly. The circuit needs to be inspected for damage. |
P1111 | The microprocessor module received data about an incorrect voltage parameter in the electrical circuit connecting the computer and the temperature sensor. We are talking about a controller installed at the input. The problem is looked for in the same way as with other sensors. First, the contact itself is checked, the wiring is checked, if necessary, the regulator is changed |
C1143 | The engine ECU reports damage to the electrical circuit or short circuit of the steering angle control sensor. It is necessary to carry out detailed testing of the device and wiring |
P1614 | The microprocessor module reports problems in the functioning of the antenna adapter amplifier on the engine blocker. If the immobilizer does not work correctly, this will lead to difficulties in starting the internal combustion engine. If the antenna completely fails, starting the power unit will be impossible. |
U1000, U1001 | One of these errors indicates a malfunction in the operation of the power steering system. There are many reasons, ranging from a lack of lubricant in the lines to incorrect pump operation. If the power steering breaks, turning the steering wheel will be more difficult |
P0335 | The control unit has detected a malfunction in the crankshaft position controller. With error 0335, the car engine will not start or will start with difficulty. Sometimes while driving there are jerks at low engine speeds |
Andrey Kanaev, using the example of a Nissan Tiida car, showed the process of reading errors and their further decoding to determine the breakdown.
Reviews from car owners
- Grigory. Tula. Example 2002. QG18DE. P0120 Malfunction of the throttle position sensor circuit/switch A. The error appeared the next day after replacing the circuit, while driving, the car suddenly lost speed (did not gain more than 3000) and the gearbox went into emergency mode (did not move more than 30). I got to the service center, while we were talking, I started it - everything works fine, it drives too: there are no active errors, P0120 is in the memory. They sentenced the TPS, changed it - everything is fine, until the next day... Again emergency mode, again at the service station, the result is a poorly screwed mass on the intake manifold, the “specialists” made it after replacing the chain and forgot to tighten it.
- Ivan. Volgodonsk. Nissan Primera P12-QR25, diesel. P1232 - low fuel pump pressure. It started after a series of refills of unknown quality diesel fuel. The symptoms grew gradually, at first it stalled when releasing the gas, jerking when driving smoothly, and then began to choke even when accelerating. It ended up stalling at one point at a traffic light and refusing to start at all. Pressure measurements at the service station showed extremely low results (at all points) and after long discussions, it was decided to replace almost the entire fuel system (except for the injectors, which were used on a stand). Preliminary attempts to restore operability by repair did not yield results; it was necessary to change the primary pump, injection pump, pressure regulator and fuel filter.
- Andrey. Tyumen. Nissan Primera (P12) 2004, 1.6. Error p1614 - immobilizer (key) not detected. The emergency vehicle refused to start after restoration and a long period of inactivity. The ignition and starter were blocked. After numerous consultations, it was determined that the part of the ECU responsible for NATs (immo) burned out, most likely after welding work. After minor repairs and reflashing the ECU to work without an immobilizer, the car started, but a new control unit with keys was still ordered.
- Yaroslav. Moscow. Nissan Primera II (P11). Error P0121 - Incorrect signal from the throttle position sensor or accelerator pedal (out of possible limits or too slow response). The problem was that after cleaning the throttle assembly again, the engine began to respond inadequately to the gas pedal. Attempts to enter the self-diagnosis mode were unsuccessful, but after connecting the scanner, the reason became clear. When removing and installing the throttle position sensor, the contact tracks were damaged, which affected the operation of the entire unit and the control unit could not enter diagnostics due to broken timings. After replacement and adaptation, everything worked as it should.
An easy way to stay informed about faults
Experienced professional service center specialists recommend that every Nissan Primera P 12 owner learn how to carry out diagnostics independently. This is not just about saving money. If various malfunctions occur on the road, you can independently identify the error and take certain actions to avoid quite serious problems. Quite often, the owners of this vehicle while driving outside the city may notice certain uncharacteristic sounds for the car or inappropriate behavior.
In this case, it is important to conduct a self-diagnosis of all systems in order to determine further actions. Naturally, professional qualified service station experts will always come to the rescue and help eliminate the malfunction or identify it. However, sometimes situations arise when it is necessary to take some action on your own so that future repairs do not lead to unnecessary financial costs or complete failure of the unit.
Self-diagnosis Nissan Primera P12
Self-diagnosis (check) of the engine
I wanted to say with my post that it’s not possible to do self-diagnosis - go to computer diagnostics, fuck guessing with tea leaves on the forum!
Do you happen to work for her??
Diagnostics costs more than $10. and it’s not a fact that it would have shown anything if the “Stupid Japanese self-diagnosis system” did not understand the reason. at the 3 nearest services they didn’t take care of Nissans (“Japanese?: - we don’t service it”), and I don’t want to drag the car far on a cable.
And what kind of fortune telling? there is a specific question “what kind of code” you need a simple answer. You know - tell me, thank you. If you don’t know, read it - it will come in handy.
What do you think the forum is for?
How to reset?
It is recommended to perform the procedure for deleting fault codes from the memory of the Nissan vehicle control unit using a stopwatch.
Reset Guide:
- The key is inserted into the lock and the ignition is activated.
- Then, within five seconds, press the gas pedal 5 times, after which it is released.
- You have to wait 7 seconds. At the eighth second, the gas pedal is depressed and held in this position for 10 seconds. After this, the Check Engine diode indicator should blink on the car’s dashboard.
- When the light goes out, the gas pedal is released. You can evaluate the correctness of the completed task. If the indicator blinks four times, this means that the on-board computer has issued the code “0000”. Accordingly, error information was deleted from the memory of the microprocessor unit.
- After the indicator stops blinking, you need to press the gas and hold the pedal for ten seconds. Then the ignition is turned off.

anyway, the service does not reset the km to zero, but there are still up to 500 left
In short, it seems to have been reset, but I don’t know how it will show
So not a single button is pressed, you will have to reset it with the key
look, I pressed reset, the card wrote something in English, should I wait until this inscription disappears?
I can't know what's on your monitor. If the reset procedure is completed, return the monitor to its original state and drive as I wrote.
So I turn it off and then you look at the monitor and it still increases
It doesn’t happen like that, you’re just doing something wrong, just like in the previous case. There is one topic for a service reminder and two more reminders: turn the ON function to OFF and nothing should appear. www. drive2.ru/l/126371/#post There has never been a person who couldn’t do it...
Although I don’t have anything, I go into the service section itself, it’s on for 500 km and I can’t reset it
Turn off the service reminder completely.
I can’t reset the service, but not the icon itself, but where do you add when what needs to be done and what kilometers
Can I ask another question?
understood well then
and the engine needs to be heated to 90
Another question: the reset is done when the engine is warm
so I entered and then how to set the language
just click on the setting button and in the language section select English in km. that's all.
I seem to have everything in it, but except for the last two as shown in yours
I have already explained below why you do not see these items.
