Greetings to all VAZ 2101-2107 classic car enthusiasts, dear readers of the RtiIvaz.ru blog. This video shows shock absorber bushings for the rear and front struts. Let's look at the rear strut bushings on YouTube video. This is a repair kit (11P) produced by OJSC "BALAKOVOREZINOTEKHNIKA" with catalog number 2101-2906231P. It is worth noting that there are also silent blocks for the lower eye of the rear shock absorber, but today we are not looking at them in the video. YouTube video:
The repair kit is supplied in a plastic bag. Let's cut it open and look at its contents. Yes, the package is protected by the “golden” label from the company Balakovorezinotekhnika. This repair kit includes eight rubber bushings for rear shock absorbers for VAZ 2101-2107 cars. When installing the rear pillars of classic vases, two bushings are installed in the upper eye of the pillar and two in the lower one, for a total of four bushings per rear pillar.
It should be noted that the factory bushings for the rear shock absorber have notches on the side, which “other” manufacturers do not have. At the same time, each factory rubber part must have a part number 2101-2906231 cast on it, which serves as brand protection.
Next, let's look at the repair kit for front shock absorbers VAZ 2101-2107...
This auto repair kit includes: four rubber parts (“donuts”) and two silent blocks 2101-2905448Р (better known as iron “nuts”). When installing the front struts, two “donuts” are installed on top of the shock absorber - one at the bottom of the mudguard, the second at the top. Silent blocks are installed in the lower eye of the front pillar.
The length of the iron bushing is 33 mm, the wall thickness is 3 mm with a hole for a bolt on M 10. As a result, four rubber “donuts” and two iron silent blocks “nuts” go to the two front shock absorbers. On the rubber “donuts”, as well as on the silent blocks, the part number is also cast: VAZ 2101-2905450R. That's all. Leave your feedback in the comments.

Replacing shock absorber rubber bands on a VAZ 2107
An extraneous unpleasant sound appeared in the rear suspension. Looking under the car, I discovered that on one side, there was not enough rubber on the lower shock absorber mount. It was decided to replace all the rubber bands with a set.
I went to the store to buy a set of rubber bands, I didn’t find anything of good quality in the store, well, except for solid rubber bands for the Niva shock absorbers themselves with a bushing. I didn’t take it, but decided to look for high-quality rubber bands or polyurethane. On the way, I stopped by a friend who sells tuners for Lada cars, and he happened to have good shock absorber rubber bands from SEVI Expert on sale at a reasonable price.
Having removed the shock absorber, the lower rubber bands almost fell out of the “ ears”
» shock absorber.
I pressed new rubber bands into the shock absorbers using a vice and sockets, after lubricating the rubber bands with soap.

Replacing front shock absorbers on a VAZ 2101-VAZ 2107
Car shock absorbers alone determine how the car will behave in the future on smooth and uneven roads. Over time, car shock absorbers deteriorate and therefore need to be replaced. In this article, we have written detailed instructions on how you can replace the front shock absorbers on cars of the “Classic” family.
To perform the replacement, you will need the following tools: First, be sure to stock up on a set of basic wrenches and new shock absorbers. And also, if you have one, take with you a special key for removing shock absorbers; for clarity, it is shown in the figure below:
Which shock absorbers do you prefer: “Gas-oil” shock absorbers or conventional “Hydraulic” ones? (Write your answer in the comments)
When do you need to change front shock absorbers?
- Loss of its properties, that is, loss of efficiency in damping vibrations.
- And it must also be replaced with a new one if it starts to leak and as a result becomes oily.
To properly verify whether the shock absorbers are working or not, you can read the article entitled: “Checking shock absorbers for performance”!

crappy oil... the shock is checked by machine, not by hand. although according to the symptoms the left one is a corpse. And then, are the shock absorbers oil or gas oil? plus, as a rule, performance is not the main criterion, the main criterion is the presence of oil in the shock absorber... there is no point in lubricating the silent parts with oil, they should not rotate at all when in place. like the metal bushing in the rubber band... looking at the rubber in general, a question arises. how did you travel? With such silents, the bridge dangles like shit from an ice hole, the car jerks from side to side when pedaling the accelerator.
How many people, so many opinions. In my opinion, the oil is good. It's not clear by car. According to the main methods of verification, it is alive, but rather harsh. Ammorts Niva oil. The car behaved stably, did not dangle anywhere, only rumbled sometimes. After the second trip I went to check and saw that my ears were hanging on the lower rubber bands. Well, I changed it right away.
We opened up a couple of engines using Lukoil oil... the bed, the head... everything was covered in an even 3-4 mm layer of soot. dirt just settles in the engine... because... many people say that nivo-shocks themselves are harsher than classic ones, although I don’t know... I haven’t used them... in any case, if they work differently, I would recommend changing them... maybe the speeds were low, since I didn’t notice...

Purpose and design of shock absorbers VAZ 2107
The main purpose of shock absorbers in a car is to smooth out and absorb vibrations (shocks) from the road surface and prevent the transfer of mechanical energy to the car body. Dampers are attached on one side to the power parts of the body, and on the other to the suspension parts (levers, bridge).
The suspension arms are constantly subject to vertical vibrations, ensuring the stability of the car, so shock absorbers in this “bundle” play an important role. When shock-absorbing parts in a car wear out, part of the load is transferred to the suspension and body elements, which greatly affects the service life of the suspension.
The racks are a tubular structure of hydraulic or gas type. Smoothing of vibrations from the road surface in such shock-absorbing struts occurs due to the oil or gas located inside. The rigidity of the struts and the progress of work depend on the speed of movement of the rod in the structure, the viscosity of the oil (gas density) and the settings of the bypass valves.
Front steps:
We hang the wheel in front in the same way, then open the hood. There is access to the rod of the front shock absorbers of the VAZ 2107.
Replacement should ideally be carried out immediately at the front and rear to ensure maximum smoothness, but some “stingy” enthusiasts argue that such a replacement is more expensive.
A car shock absorber is a device that provides not only comfort, but also safety for the driver and passengers. Shock absorbers ensure that the car's wheels are firmly pressed against the road surface, resulting in body vibrations being reduced to a minimum. The domestic car VAZ 2107 is equipped with shock absorbers, which are installed in the chassis structure near each of the wheels. Let's look at what it means to replace shock absorbers on a VAZ 2107 in detail.
When is it necessary to replace shock absorbers?
Both front and rear shock absorbers on the VAZ 2107 perform the same function. Despite this, these elements differ structurally. The main difference between these elements is the method of fastening, but we will learn more about this when we consider the process of replacing units.
The products in question need replacement in the following cases:
- When the mechanism becomes unusable, that is, it does not have the ability to cushion the car body and smooth out shocks. It is not difficult to detect a malfunction of this mechanism, because in this case it becomes not entirely comfortable in the car interior.
- Presence of oil leaks on the device. You can detect leaks even without removing the product from the car.
If you are convinced that the products in question need replacement, then it’s time to get down to business.
Replacing front shock absorbers on a VAZ 2107
First, let's look at what the process of replacing the front shock absorbers of a VAZ 2107 is. It is important to note that even if only one element has become unusable, it is recommended to replace them in pairs, or even better as a set. The replacement procedure is represented by the following steps:
- We recommend placing the car on a pit or overpass and then applying the brakes to the wheels. If there is access from below, then there is no need to use a jack. Otherwise, you will have to use a jack and wheel stands, which will be more labor-intensive.
- Work begins on removal from the engine compartment, that is, there is no need to jack up the front part yet, as this will complicate access to the upper nut of the product. To do this, you need to open the hood and find the product stem. There is a nut screwed onto it, to unscrew it you need to jam the rod itself with a special key. In the photo below, this wrench is indicated by the number “1”, and the number “2” is a regular wrench at “17”.
- After unscrewing and removing the nut, you need to remove the washer with the rubber cushion.
- Now you can jack up the front of the car, then remove the wheel and install the spacer. Otherwise, we go down into the inspection hole.
- We find two nuts securing the front device. This mount looks like this, shown below. Using a “13” wrench you will need to unscrew both nuts. This must be done carefully, since there are spring washers underneath. We recommend spraying them with WD-40 first, as they usually do not unscrew easily, and there is a chance of stripping the studs, which will require restoration work.
- After unscrewing both nuts, the unit can be dismantled. To do this, pull its bottom bracket, after which it will fall out.
- Using two “17” keys, you need to unscrew the nut that secures the bottom bracket of the device. This bracket must be screwed to the new product in the same way if it does not have it.
- Now you can begin installing the new element. Before installing the front shock absorbers, you must first extend the rod all the way.
- Initially, the device is fixed at the lowest point by attaching two nuts. After this, the cushion and washer are put on the rod, and then the nut is screwed in. If the car is on a jack, you will not be able to tighten the nut. To do this, you need to lower the car or load the suspension. After this, you can screw the nut all the way.
- At the bottom, you must finally secure the device with two nuts.
At this stage, the front shock absorbers can be considered replaced, then we move on to the rear of the VAZ-2107.
Replacing rear shock absorbers on a VAZ 2107
The rear shock absorbers on the VAZ 2107 have a different mounting scheme, so let’s consider their replacement principle. As you know, the rear shock absorbers on the VAZ-2107 differ from the front ones in the design of the brackets. We will find out further how to replace the rear shock absorbers of a VAZ 2107.
- The car continues to stand on the overpass or pit, which will greatly facilitate the work, since there is no need to use a jack. If there is no hole, you will have to install a jack and jack up the rear of the car. This will make the whole replacement process a little more complicated.
- Work on dismantling the part must begin with the lower bracket. To do this, you will need two “19” keys, with which you unscrew the nut securing the device. The photo below shows what this bracket is.
- After unscrewing the nut, you need to pull the bolt out a little and remove the spacer sleeve from it.
- After removing the spacer sleeve, you can remove the bolt and dismantle the spacer sleeve, and after it, release the lower part of the part.
- Now you can begin to unscrew the top mount of the device. To do this, you will need to unscrew the nut, remove the washer and rubber bushing. If the bushing cannot be removed, then it does not matter; you can continue dismantling further.
- To remove the device, you need to pull the product by hand, and then remove its upper hinge from the stud along with the bushing.
- Having picked up the product that has been dismantled, you need to remove the spacer sleeve from it, shown in the photo below.
- When replacing a shock absorber, both loops must be equipped with new rubber bands and spacers must be installed in them.
- Next, you need to fix the new part at the top and then at the bottom. Everything is done in the reverse order of removal.
Features of repair of shock absorber mounts
The designers of VAZ cars of the classic family did not provide for the possibility of serious loads when designing the design of the upper mounts for the rear dampers. Therefore, many car enthusiasts encounter problems when installing rear struts on the upper mounts.
The upper mounts are metal studs secured to the body cross member at the rear of the car. Over time, metal fatigue appears at the fastening points due to the constant loads from the operation of the dampers, so the metal studs often crack and break off, or the fastenings themselves fail.
To solve problems with the upper fastenings, owners of classic Lada cars often resort to replacing the studs with new ones. To do this, holes are cut out at the locations of the fasteners using a grinder and the old studs are removed.
After that, new steel pins and washers are installed in the mounting holes, and the fastening points are securely welded with a welding machine.
You can safely install new shock absorbers on new mounts and not worry about the reliability of the mounts.

Shock absorbers ensure that the car's wheels are firmly pressed against the road surface, resulting in body vibrations being reduced to a minimum. Checking the condition of the jet rods on the VAZ 2107
100 thousand kilometers - new parts from the car are enough for this period, according to existing instructions. But the actual service life rarely exceeds 80 thousand kilometers, given real conditions.
The same instructions say that it is recommended to organize checks every 20 thousand kilometers. And here the experts recommend reducing the period by 5-10 thousand km to make it easier to avoid unpleasant surprises. You can’t do without an inspection hole and a mounting blade; this is the only way the jet thrust can be opened for viewing and other actions.
Test sequence
The steps are not that complicated:
- Installation of transport on a viewing hole or on an overpass;
- Mounting blades are inserted behind the traction eyes;
- The spatula rests against the jet thrust bracket. An attempt is made to shift the part, together with the silent block. If the action is successful, it means the part is worn out and needs to be replaced;
- Repeating a similar procedure with each silent block. If it moves sideways by a few mm, the need for replacement is obvious.
The rods themselves, along with the eyes, are also checked for wear. If any defects are detected, in this case the bushings and other parts are replaced.

Helpful information
A short rod unscrewed from the stocking will facilitate dismantling and installation. For ease of assembly, a new rubber spacer and a metal lining are fixed to the spring with electrical tape or tape. Reinforced springs with VAZ 02 - 04 will increase the load capacity, but the car will become rougher to drive. It is easier to replace the torque rods with new ones without wasting time pressing the bushings in a vice. When experimenting with the height of the springs, you should remember the length of the shock absorber stroke. They may have to be lengthened or different ones used. During disassembly, the brake hose receives extra stress, which can lead to damage.
Follow safety precautions and replacing rear springs will not be a hassle.
How to replace rear shock absorbers on a VAZ 2101-VAZ 2107?
Note! The rear shock absorbers on the right and left sides are replaced in the same way, so the entire replacement process will be shown on only one shock absorber!
Removal: 1) Before you start, be sure to read the “Important!” section. at the very bottom of the article, maybe it will be useful to you.
2) After reading, we move on to replacement. First, drive the car into the inspection hole or lift it using a lift.
Note! If you will be doing work on a lift, then it is recommended to install some kind of support under the rear axle beam, and then lower the car slightly so that it rests on it. And all this is done so that the rear suspension is slightly loaded, otherwise removing the shock absorber will be very problematic!
3) Next, holding the bolt with one wrench, use the second to unscrew the nut that secures the lower hinge bolt.
4) Then slightly remove the bolt from the hinge and thereby remove the spacer sleeve from it, which is indicated by the arrow.
5) Next, holding the lower part of the shock absorber with your hand, slightly move it away from the bracket and, as a result, remove the spacer sleeve from the bolt.
Note! After these operations, completely remove the bolt from the lower hinge together with the washer!
6) Now get to the top of the shock absorber, and then unscrew the nut that secures the upper hinge.
7) After unscrewing, remove the washer and the outer rubber bushing of the hinge, which is indicated by the red arrow, from the stud.
↑ Removing the rear suspension
- Raise the rear of the car and place it on stands. Remove the rear wheels.
- Disconnect the driveshaft from the drive gear flange.
- Disconnect the hydraulic brake hose from the steel tube installed on the axle and take measures to prevent fluid from leaking from the brake system.
- Disconnect the rear parking brake cable bracket from the body, remove the front cable release spring and, by unscrewing the locknut and adjusting nut, release the rear cable branch.
- Disconnect the rear brake pressure regulator drive rod from the bracket on the bridge beam.
- Disconnect the upper ends of the shock absorbers.
- Place a hydraulic jack under the rear axle beam. Disconnect the longitudinal and transverse rods from the brackets on the body, lower the jack and remove the axle.

Front shock absorbers SS20 for VAZ 2101-2107
Rear shock absorbers SS20 for VAZ 2101-2107
The family of VAZ cars with a classic layout has earned a popular reputation as simple and fairly reliable inexpensive cars to operate. At the same time, the level of driving comfort and smooth ride also contributed to the love of our compatriots for the VAZ classics. But over the years that the family remained on the assembly line, both the speed of movement and the requirements for car handling increased. At the moment, we can say with confidence that in modern conditions, when driving both in the city and on the highways, cars of the VAZ 2101-2107 family are forced to reduce speed and do not provide an acceptable level of controllability and stability at speeds of even 90 km/h. Therefore, when developing and testing shock absorbers 2101-2107, the main attention was paid to improving the car’s handling while maintaining maximum comfort, and improving the car’s behavior on country roads.
We restore the suspension of a VAZ classic
Many drivers who lived through the times of the Soviet Union affectionately call it “seven”. Since then, some have switched to foreign cars or newer VAZ models, but you can be sure that all of them, despite all the troubles caused, remember their first car only with kind words.
There is also a category of car enthusiasts who are loyal to the “seven” to this day. They motivate this by the low cost of maintenance and ease of repair. They have accumulated vast experience that will be useful when restoring your car.
How to replace front shock absorbers on a VAZ 2101-VAZ 2107?
Both shock absorbers are replaced in the same way, so we will show their replacement only using the example of one shock absorber!
1) First, drive the car into the inspection hole, or hang it up using a lift.
2) Now open the hood and pick up the special key (If you don’t have it, then use small pliers). Next, place a special wrench on the shock absorber rod, which is indicated by the number “1” in the photo, thereby reducing the likelihood of the rod turning along the axis.

Replacing the lower silent block of the front shock absorber VAZ 2101-2107
Very briefly about the replacement
lower silent block
of
the front shock absorber VAZ
2101-2107 Very briefly about replacing the lower.
Immediately after this, use a wrench labeled “2” to unscrew and then remove the nut, after the nut, remove the spring washer, as well as the cushion washer and the upper shock absorber mounting cushion itself.
If you are working on a lift, then perform this operation with the car standing on the ground!
3) Then crawl under the car, and there, unscrew the two nuts that secure the bracket to the lever.
Unscrew the nuts carefully, because above them there are spring washers that will also need to be carefully removed. If both lower nuts are soured, then apply WD-40 grease to them, thereby ensuring they can be easily loosened!
4) When both nuts that secure the bracket to the lever are unscrewed, pull down the shock absorber and therefore remove it from the car.
5) When the shock absorber is removed, remove the lower cushion from its rod.
6) Next, holding the bolt from turning with one wrench, with the other, unscrew the nut that secures the bracket to the shock absorber and then remove the bolt, thereby removing the small washer and the bracket itself.
You can install the removed bracket on a new shock absorber if it is missing!
Installing a new car front shock absorber is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Before installing a new shock absorber, pull out the rod all the way. After which, for convenience, you can first put a washer on the rod, then a cushion, and then screw the nut on top!
If you do all the work on a lift, then lower the car to such a state that it touches the ground, in other words, so that its suspension is loaded under the weight of the car itself!
If the shock absorber rod comes out from above but not all the way, then first put the cushion washer on it and then screw the nut on top. When the nut is screwed on, using a lever principle, use a screwdriver or wrench to pull the rod up to the top until it stops!
To make it easier for you to understand the procedure for replacing shock absorbers, then watch a video below, prepared especially for you, in which everything is described and explained in detail.
↑ Installing the rear suspension
Installation of the rear suspension is carried out in the reverse order of removal. In this case, install class A springs (with yellow markings) on the suspension. In exceptional cases, when there are no springs of this class, the installation of springs of class B (with green markings) is allowed.
To prevent damage and over-tightening of the elastic bushings of the rod hinges and shock absorbers:
- load the rear of the car so that the distance from the axle beam to the body side member, measured 100 mm from the crossbar bracket, is 125 mm;
- Using a torque wrench, tighten the nuts on the bolts securing the longitudinal and transverse rods, as well as on the pins securing the shock absorbers to the bridge beam and to the body.
Replacing front shock absorbers on a VAZ 2107
In order to replace the shock absorbers, you need to unscrew them from the bottom and top. The rod is secured on top with one nut, which can be either 14 or 17, depending on the shock absorber manufacturer. While unscrewing, it is necessary to hold the rod with pliers or a 8mm wrench.
Once the rod is free, you need to unscrew the shock absorber from below. It is attached to the lower arm with two 13 nuts. The difficulty of the procedure is that the threads on the studs are often knocked off, since this is where the main gravel flies from, which damages the suspension. During assembly, you should pay attention to this; it is advisable to screw on the 2nd nut, and then tighten it. Next, compress the shock absorber and pull it down. Most likely, you will have to jack up the car to do this.
Related works
Changing shock absorbers on a VAZ 2107 is accompanied by preventive and diagnostic work related to the suspension. They usually include a visual inspection and replacement of certain parts.
Most often, new springs are installed. In addition, many car owners change spacers along with rear dampers - this allows them to increase the vehicle's ground clearance. This procedure necessarily accompanies the installation of stiffer shock absorbers.
The procedure for installing front and rear shock absorbers on a VAZ 2107 does not require special knowledge and skills. An unprepared car owner can spend a maximum of 2–3 hours on it. After replacement, preventive and repair work is carried out to extend the life of the suspension.

Design Features
Before you start replacing faulty VAZ 2107 shock absorbers, you should briefly familiarize yourself with their design and purpose. This part converts mechanical energy into thermal energy and acts as a damper. Zhiguli front and rear suspensions are equipped with vibration damping devices of a similar design, but of different sizes and mounting methods.
Main design details:
- working cylinder;
- tank with lug;
- compression valve;
- rod with piston;
- casing with eyelet.
The shock absorbers are located inside the springs and are secured by a rod through rubber cushions to the body, and by the eye of the body through a rubber-metal hinge to the lower arm.
