As you know, traffic safety is greatly influenced by the quality of road lighting. At the same time, fog lights can provide a noticeable improvement in visibility in difficult weather conditions (rain, fog, etc.)
Drivers also actively use PTF in the dark as a supplement to the head beam or high beam. However, not all cars are equipped with fog lights from the factory. Unfortunately, the popular VAZ 2114 and VAZ 2115 may not have PTF.
Naturally, owners of such cars often install fog lights themselves. Next, we will look at which fog lights for the VAZ 2114 are better to choose, what to look for when purchasing fog lights for the VAZ 2115, etc.
Types of fuel pumps
Serial production of the “ten” began in 1995, that is, at a time when domestic cars were still equipped with carburetor systems. Mechanical fuel pumps were installed in them to pump fuel. This pump operates directly from the car engine.
For proper operation of the carburetor, high pressure is not required, and therefore the pump has a relatively simple design, similar to water pumping systems. It is installed directly under the hood of the car, which certainly makes it easier to service or replace.
With the advent of injectors, the design of the fuel pump was also modified; it became electric. The principle of its operation has also changed. If the operation of a mechanical pump requires the starter to start rotating the crankshaft, then in the injection system the fuel pump is first energized, which, using a built-in electric motor, creates the required pressure in the line, and only after that the engine starts.
This type of fuel pump is installed directly into the fuel tank.
Thus, there are two types of fuel pumps: mechanical and electrical.
Which fog lights are better for the VAZ-2110
Outwardly, you may not notice much difference between high-quality headlights and “analogs” of unknown origin.
Making the right choice in this case is very difficult, since a huge number of headlights have appeared on sale, different in shape, light source and color spectrum.
It is also important what material the diffuser is made of - glass or polycarbonate. Since PTFs are installed low, puny plastic cases do not last long
And if we take into account that in the rain we will often have to wipe the diffuser with improvised means, then the low-quality material will rub off and all the work of the lamps will go down the drain.
Regular and similar PTFs
Rectangular fog lights with standard mounts fit into the VAZ-2110 bumper in a standard place without additional modifications. They are produced by a lot of manufacturers, but, again, all these headlights are different both in the quality of the optics and in the light source.
The most common are two types of domestically produced PTFs OSVAR and headlights from the Avtosvet plant from Kirzhach. The latter have two modifications - for a lamp with H3 and H1 sockets. According to user reviews, headlights with H1 lamps provide a denser and more concentrated luminous flux over the entire illumination range. Their price is about 900 rubles apiece. But they are sold without a lamp.
Domestic headlights - OSVAR 2212.3743-04. They are assembled rather roughly and this spoils the appearance. The lampshade is non-removable and is glued in with sealant, which if damaged will affect the cost of replacement. However, with a price of about 700 rubles (with a lamp), they look pretty decent. The illumination is even, but if installed correctly, the near zone is illuminated worse.
Another relatively domestic manufacturer is the Ryazan Bosch plant
The headlights are designed for H3 lamps, the light doesn’t matter, but they also cost about 650 rubles. The most budget option for infrequent use
They are sold without a lamp.
Lamps in PTF — Lada 2115, 1.6 l., 2008 on DRIVE2
For the most part, the post is about lamps in PTF. This is the second time I have installed a kit from OSRAM, and to be honest I would like to criticize the lamps of this company a little. Of course, they have advantages, in that they shine with a beautiful white light, and this is undoubtedly good only in dry weather, since in the rain they are extremely difficult to see, but this did not break off much since this problem affects all lamps with white light. Now I’ll tell you about the disadvantages that I discovered, and firstly, this is the price. On average, a set costs 800 rubles, which in principle is not very cheap, although it can be survived. The second problem is the extremely short period of use. I drive with headlights during the day, I turn them on only at night, and despite this they burn out after not even working for half a year. I think buying them for 800 rubles more often than once every six months is a little steep. The third disadvantage of these lamps I would like to point out is one of the observations: while they are new glasses, they are blue (as I understand, they are filled with a special gas, due to which they seem to be supposed to shine with white light), but that was not the case. After using them for a while, the blue varnish simply peels off, under which an ordinary transparent lamp is hidden. I think this clearly should not happen with lamps. Here is a photo of what the lamp looked like after about 4-5 months of infrequent use.
There was no desire to buy these lamps again, since they did not justify their price and the hopes placed on them. This time I decided not to push myself and bought BOSCH, manufactured in Hungary. They cost 140 rubles each. In principle, compared to Osram, these can be changed 3 times instead of once. I'll try them when they light up. Compared to the previous ones, they give off a little yellowness, but I think they won’t shine much worse.
I also bought a rug ala Ali-express and cut it into the niches of the tunnel between the seats, now the phone and remote control for the car radio that are lying there don’t jump or rattle, and it looks like it turned out cool.
Issue price: 300 ₽

Removing the front bumper of a VAZ 2114
, installation of PTF in
the bumper
, which does not have space for them. Continuation
On our channel you will always find a solution to your problems that you have when repairing your steel
Installation of fog lights is carried out with the bumper removed. Marking is first done on a bumper that has been cleaned of dirt. The optimal installation location is at the level of the lower air intake, but at some distance from it. It is advisable that the PTF be located strictly under the headlights.
First determine the distance at which the fog lights will be removed from the air intake. Then we'll figure out what size holes to cut. Decorative “glasses” will help with this. They consist of two halves. external (decorative) and internal (fixes the external part and the headlights themselves).
The outer half of the glasses has tabs on the inside to fit into the hole in the bumper. To determine the size of the hole, the dimensions of this mounting protrusion are measured. After we place the markings with the appropriate dimensions on the bumper.
Once the markings are complete, we will continue cutting the holes with an electric jigsaw. After this, the edges of the holes must be adjusted using a file
It is important to make sure that the outer part of the glass fits tightly into the hole
In these holes we fix the fog lights with bolted connections. All that remains is to fix the “glasses” headlights.
After installing the fog lights, we install the bumper on the car. This completes the first stage.
Pros and cons of cars
In Russia, the VAZ 2115 became the most popular. It was believed that the sedan body was more popular. However, with the advent of a large number of foreign cars, hatchbacks began to be in demand. Considering the popularity of cars among the younger generation, I want them to be in great demand. Acceleration up to 100 km. faster than the “tag”, because its weight is less. The choice of model should be determined based on your needs. The hatchback can accommodate more cargo. And if you fold the rear seats, the interior volume turns into a large trunk. It is not possible to load large cargo into the sedan.
The advantages of the 2114 include a smaller rear body. Many drivers note the parking factor - it is easier to park than a sedan
Although experienced car enthusiasts say that it is important to feel the dimensions of the car, and any parking will not be difficult
But the presence of a heavy trunk lid should also be considered a disadvantage. While driving, the fastenings become loose and extraneous sounds appear. Moreover, the “fourteenth” model has problems with rear window contamination, and only a windshield wiper can solve it.
The driving parameters are actually no different, because they belong to the same segment of the automotive industry. The cost of spare parts is low, and there are no problems with the availability of one or another part. Relatively inexpensive and the cost of repairs. In the secondary car market, the cost of VAZ 2114 and 2115 is low, which means it is affordable. With proper care and careful operation, the car will bring a lot of positive emotions.
Installation and connection of front and rear PTFs on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115
Before you begin installing fog lights, you will need to select a certain list of tools and additional elements. You can purchase a ready-made connection kit or select the necessary spare parts separately. When everything is prepared, you can mark on the front bumper a place for installing future headlights. The VAZ 2115 comes with standard holes from the factory, but in the case of the VAZ 2113 and VAZ 2114 you will need to work with a tool (a jigsaw or a drill). If you don’t want to damage the bumper, you can install the lighting fixtures on special brackets.
To install foglights in the front bumper, you need to make holes using a jigsaw or drill with drill bits, having previously completed the markings
You will need:
- file;
- drill and drill bits;
- electric jigsaw;
- roulette;
- marker.
Installation materials
As a rule, the kit for installing PTF on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115 includes the following elements:
- headlights with bulbs;
- set of wires;
- electromagnetic relay;
- PTF power button;
- ties and clips for fixing wires;
- PTF connection diagram VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115.
The kit for connecting fog lights should include wires with terminals and connectors, a relay, a button
The installation of the lighting sources in question must be carried out using a button and an electromagnetic relay. The fact is that fog lights consume quite a lot of current and connecting directly to the ignition switch will lead to burning and subsequently burnout of the contacts. All this can contribute to damage to the wire insulation and the occurrence of a short circuit, which may result in failure of the electrical wiring.
Step-by-step installation and connection of PTF
To install fog lights, the following procedure must be followed:
- Installation of the headlight switch button in the cabin. You can choose any location for the element, as long as the driver can easily operate the key. Quite often, the part is installed instead of plugs on the dashboard.
- The grille with the dynamic head is removed from the front panel. Behind it there are two blocks designed to turn on the headlights, indicate the operation of the PTF and illuminate the button.
- Having placed the button in a convenient place, connectors are connected to it. After this, the grate can be put back in place.
- The relay is installed under the hood on the partition of the engine compartment near the mounting block. To remove it, you need to unscrew 2 nuts, lift it and find 2 pads (numbers 7 and 8).
- A block with a harness of four wires with contacts included in the kit is laid to the relay block.
- The connection of the wires that come from the PTF relay is carried out according to the diagram in the following order: the wire from the 30th contact of the relay is connected to block No. 8 of the mounting block at the 8th terminal, the 87th contact of the relay goes to the 1st terminal of the connector, 86 is “ground”, and 85 is connected with the 17th terminal of block No. 7.
- The positive wires are pulled to the PTF, the mass is mainly secured to the nut of the headlights. The “+” voltage is supplied to the fog lights from the 2nd and 3rd contacts of block No. 8.
- After all connections, the connectors are installed in the mounting block and secured.
As for the rear PTFs on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115, on these modifications of the car such a light source is installed from the factory, i.e. another light bulb is used in the rear light. Control is also carried out from the passenger compartment using a button, but without fixing, since a slightly different relay design (electronic) is used. It’s worth knowing about this and not trying to install a latching key.

Checking the performance of PTF on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115
After the lighting devices are installed and connected, you need to check how correctly everything works. To do this, just turn on the headlights and press the key that supplies voltage to the PTF relay, after which the headlamp lamps should light up. When the headlights are turned off, the PTF lamps should also go out, regardless of the position of the fog light button. After checking the functionality of the light source, you will need to adjust the light output so that oncoming drivers are not dazzled.
After installation and connection, we check the operation of the PTF: when the lights are turned on and the fog lights are pressed, the lights should light up, when the lights are turned off, the lights should go out
Fog optics are essential lighting equipment for any car. Such devices greatly facilitate travel in poor visibility conditions. If a certain car model does not have PTF installed from the factory, you can carry out the installation yourself. This does not require special tools or special skills and knowledge.
Selection of body and main criteria when selecting PTF VAZ
When choosing a PTF VAZ 2114 or for any other car, it is important to consider what kind of lamp will be installed in the fog lights, why fog lights are installed, etc. As a rule, such headlights themselves can be in a plastic, aluminum or magnesium housing. It is quite obvious that aluminum and magnesium are more reliable and durable, but they also cost more.
Fog lights may also have a plastic or glass light diffuser. Plastic products are resistant to damage, but quickly turn yellow and cloudy, and light transmittance decreases. As a result, after just a couple of years the quality of road lighting deteriorates.
PTFs with glass lenses last longer, but often the glass cracks due to temperature changes (especially when installing diode lamps) or as a result of mechanical damage. One way or another, it is advisable to select models where the diffuser can be replaced separately without changing the entire body.
We also note that if the car is used actively or in difficult conditions (for example, driving on the highway at high speed or driving on bad roads), when choosing, it is better to choose PTF models, which can be closed with special foglight plugs made of plastic to protect against stones, etc. d.
- Now let's move on to the choice. To decide which fog lights to install on the VAZ 2114, first of all, you should choose a reliable housing. As you know, the condition of roads in the Russian Federation and the CIS is poor, so PTF made from a material resistant to damage and temperature changes will be the best solution. If there are protective plugs, this will be an additional plus. The kit should also include good quality fasteners, wires, and relays.
The fogs themselves should provide the widest possible spot of light, distribute the light evenly, with a minimum of losses due to refraction and dispersion of the light flux. It should also be possible to adjust and adjust the light spot (both vertically and horizontally) so as not to blind drivers of oncoming cars. Even if the lamp burns out, access for replacement should be easy. This allows you to quickly change the llama yourself.
We also note that when choosing PTF 2114 or 2115, as well as for other cars, it is important to take into account their power. The fact is that fogs that are too powerful can create a large load on the generator and wiring. As a rule, 55 W lamps are sufficient. If the PTF is lensed (fog lights with a lens), you need to pay special attention to the quality of the lens, the reliability of its fixation, etc.
Finally, we note that when choosing PTF, it is also important that such headlights have acceptable aerodynamic performance and fit well into the overall exterior of the car.
As practice shows, car enthusiasts install domestic fog lights VAZ or Avtosvet as PTF on VAZ 2114. The list of imported solutions includes Bosch or Hella, as well as various Chinese PTFs. Also, regular PTFs from Samara, Niva, Priora, etc. are often installed on VAZ 2114 or 2115.
In fact, Avtosvet products are considered a high-quality budget option. However, it is important to remember that non-original fakes are often found. If we talk about expensive headlights, then Hella is a recognized leader, but the price for Hella PTFs is quite high.
As for fog lights from China, they can be either cheap or expensive, and the quality can also vary greatly. At the same time, it often happens that more expensive analogues may turn out to be no better or even worse than average-priced options.
The best bulbs for fog lights
Here are the TOP 5 best lamps from different manufacturers.
LYNX H11
Japanese halogen lamps are characterized by low energy consumption and an average price of about 400 rubles. The rich yellow light illuminates the road well at night in any weather.
You should be careful with LYNX light bulbs - there have been defective products.
KOITO WHITEBEAM III H8
The brightness of KOITO halogens is as close as possible to standard xenon. The Japanese manufacturer combines increased brightness and a natural yellowish tint. The disadvantages include the high price (two thousand for a pair of lamps) and cases of fakes.
These lamps are installed in both foglights and headlights.
PHILIPS H27W STANDARD
The use of quartz glass and a special filter helped manufacturers increase the service life of the consumable. At a really low price - about 200 rubles - halogens have a good luminous flux with a yellowish tint. The color temperature of the lamp is 3200K.
OSRAM ORIGINAL LINE H27
Permanent sales leader in the automotive lamp market. Average price, excellent quality and long service life. Such lamps are installed as standard in Audi, Mercedes, and Toyota cars.
Recently, many fakes of poor quality have appeared on the Russian market.
CATZ H8 CB802
Japanese engineers came up with a special glow. A special filament and gas filling the bulb provide the lamp with a very bright glow and a long service life. The main disadvantage of these Japanese consumables is the very high price, more than five thousand rubles. Perhaps later the manufacturing technology will become more widespread, and lighting devices will become more accessible.
Every driver of a motorcycle, car, or truck feels discomfort when driving in foggy weather. Since visibility is low, you can end up in a ditch, collide with an oncoming vehicle, or hit a pedestrian. In such cases, fog lights come to the rescue, illuminating the road and roadsides low and widely. After studying the rating, drivers can choose some of the best PTFs for their car, which in the long run will save a lot of nerve cells, and maybe even someone’s life.
Base variety
A spar in a car, what is it, what does it look like, what is it for, what is it like
During operation, car light bulbs are subject to strong vibration. In this regard, all structural elements have increased strength, and the mounting socket for the base is equipped with a clamp or spring contacts. All types of car lamp bases are absolutely different from their household counterparts. Therefore, in addition to indicating the type of car lamp, markings on the base are required.
With protective flange
The presence of a flange is indicated by the symbol “P”, with which the base code begins (H4-P43t). Powerful lamps for headlights are available with a flange. For example, popular models installed in low-beam, high-beam and PTF headlights with H3, H4, H7, HB3, HB4 sockets. This also includes less popular ones - H1, H12, R2 and many others.
Soffit
This type of base is designated “SV”. The auto lamp has a cylindrical shape, 30-40 mm long, with two bases at the edges. This design allows you to save internal space and minimize the size of the lampshade. They have found the greatest application in interior lighting, where lamps are built into the upholstery. Spot light sources are also used to illuminate registration plates and brake lights (for example, C5W-SV8.5-8).
Pin
These lamps have a smooth cylindrical base with two symmetrically “BA” or asymmetrically “BAY” “BAZ” pins for rigid fixation. The offset of the pins is necessary in order to exclude the possibility of installing a different type of light bulb, for example, white instead of yellow. The inscription: “PY21W-BAY15s” means that this lamp has a yellow bulb, a pin-type base with a diameter of 15 mm with one contact, a power of 21 W.
With glass base
The coding for all glass lighting fixtures begins with the letter “W” followed by the size of the base in millimeters (W21W-W3x16d). They are very practical and are in demand in many car lights: turn indicators, markers, dashboard, etc.
New types of socles
Plug-in connections of the new format are developed, as a rule, for LED lamps. Their appearance is explained by an attempt to promote LED products, and is also a kind of protection for the driver from the installation of other types of lighting devices.
Product change process
Anyone can replace a failed component of the low or high beam system. You will need the following tools:
- awl (thin screwdriver);
- magnet equipped with a long handle (optional).
After this, follow the instructions:
- Open the hood with the car's ignition off. Find the headlight units on both sides of the car.
- Unscrew the protective box of the light source on the headlamp from both sides. After removing the box cover, you will see under it a block with three contacts that are responsible for powering the lighting system, as well as a spring-type holder.
- Disconnect the block, and then, using a squeezing movement of the product fasteners, release the lighting element. You can remove it from the standard mounting location.
To replace and replace with another bright light product, follow the instructions in reverse order.
Useful video
For more information, watch the video below:
To avoid injury and replace correctly:
- wait a while after turning off the headlights - halogen headlights get very hot and if you don’t wait, you can get burned;
- do not choose too bright headlights - even burnt-out wiring is not as important as the lives that can be crippled by a driver blinded by you;
- Always carry out work with gloves - temperature, cracked glass, unexpected condensation, all this will not harm you if you protect yourself.

Buying what you need
You can, in principle, buy a ready-made set along with wires, but many believe that if you buy everything separately, the number of installation options increases, and it will all cost less. So, we buy:
- Set of headlights (2 pieces);
- Plastic pads;
- Headlight frames;
- A key and a yellow indicator for it;
- Relay;
- Wires. It is better to purchase ones from an electrical equipment store, so that there are two copper conductors with double insulation (ShVVP-2 is suitable). A cross section of 0.5 mm will also be normal, but if you want to install lamps of higher power, take 0.75 mm;
- Terminal for installation to ground;
- Wide as well as narrow terminals, called mother/father. When purchasing them, it is advisable not to take them complete with wires. Installation will be more convenient if these terminals are crimped with pliers already on the connections of the installed wires.
None You can, of course, vary it, but we are talking about the convenience of the location of the buttons. Regarding the power of the lamps, 55 W is enough, no more is needed. Also keep in mind that very cheap fog lights will not last long.
Possible malfunctions and ways to eliminate them
And finally, let’s look at typical faults that can cause PTF failure:
- Burnout of lamps. We replace them with new ones (see section above).
- The fuses have failed. We open the mounting block and check fuses F8 and F9. If necessary, replace with inserts of the same rating (10 A).
- There is no minus power supply to the lamp. We crawl under the bumper and check the wire connecting the PTF lamp to the car body. Either it is torn, or the place where it is clamped under the headlight bolt has simply oxidized.
- There is no minus power to the relay. We open the engine compartment and check the wire coming from the 86th contact of the relay to the body. Either it is torn, or the place where it is clamped under the bolt has simply oxidized.
- A break or short circuit to the body of the wires supplying the PTF bulbs. In the second case, when replacing the fuse with a working one, the latter immediately burns out. We inspect the PTF power wires, find them, and fix them.
- The headlight relay is faulty. We exchange it for a rented one and check it. If everything works, we buy a new relay.
- The PTF switch is faulty. We remove it, call a tester, change it.
- There is no voltage at the 85th relay contact. We turn on the PTF and measure the voltage with a tester relative to the body. If it is not there, we look for a fault in the mounting block.
On this, perhaps, the conversation about the fog lights of the VAZ 2114 can be completed. Now we know how to install them ourselves, and, if necessary, repair them.

VAZ 2115 - new version of the 99th model
A small number of VAZ 2115 were manufactured by the AvtoVAZ plant in early 1997. The new product was a re-release of the previously existing 99 model. The changes affected the rear, as well as the front, interior, and increased trunk volume. The driving characteristics remained unchanged, a 1.5-liter engine with a carburetor system and a power of 72 hp.
Starting in 2000, the production of the model was redirected to the main conveyor. The technical characteristics were changed: fuel injection became distributed, and the number of horsepower increased to 78. Subsequently, in 2007, the engine was replaced - from a volume of 1.5 to 1.6 and the power increased to 81 hp.
The main causes of PTF malfunction
The most common reasons why the VAZ 2114 fog lights do not work are as follows:
- fuse is blown;
- burnt out light bulb(s);
- oxidation of contacts occurred;
- lost contact with the “mass”;
- the button is faulty;
- the relay has failed.
In addition, some other, rarer reasons are possible, which we will also consider below.
And so, the very first and most common reason is a blown fuse.
Each of the fog lights has its own fuse, namely F9 and F8 in the block, each of which is designed for a maximum current of 7.5 Amperes. In some cases, it happens that there are no fuses responsible for protecting the fog lights in the common block.
This happens when a car is purchased second-hand, and the PTFs were installed independently by its previous owner. In this case, you should inspect the entrance and the board on which the headlights themselves are located. Very often, during self-installation, the fuse is attached in this place.
When replacing, you should use a fuse exclusively for a current of 7.5 A. A fuse designed for a higher current simply will not be able to protect the headlights from a voltage surge, and one designed for a lower one will often burn out.
If both fog lights do not light up at once, then the problem is most likely not in the fuse, since the failure of two protective elements at once is quite rare.
The next reason why the fog lights on the VAZ 2114 do not light up may be the usual burnout of the light bulbs. In order to check this, just unscrew the old lamps and screw in new ones in their place.
Another, no less common reason (especially in the middle climate) is the oxidation of the contact connectors of the headlights themselves. Very often this causes blinking or intermittent operation of the light bulbs. In order to eliminate this nuisance, it is enough to remove oxides by cleaning the headlight contacts with fine-grain sandpaper or wiping well with WD-40, White Spirit or kerosene.
Also, the contact running from the battery negative to the housing (to ground) often oxidizes. If this happens, the joint should be thoroughly cleaned, as described above.
Another reason why the fog lights may not turn on is the failure of the button located on the front panel of the car, which is used to turn on the PTF. You can check its functionality in two ways: connect a new button (if you have one) and try to turn on the headlights, or ring the button with a multimeter. If the button turns out to be damaged, it should be replaced with a new one, since it is practically not repairable.
Failure of the relay may also be the reason why the rear fog lights of the VAZ 2114 do not work. It is checked in the same way as a button - by testing the contact legs or replacing the relay with a new one. If it turns out that it has become unusable, it should also be replaced.
Often the cause of headlight failure can be the headlights themselves. During long-term use, the reflective layer can be destroyed, chipped and fall on electrical elements, thereby interfering with their proper operation. That is why it is worth periodically checking the internal condition of all headlights (not just PTF).
If all of the above reasons have been checked, and none of them have been identified, then the problem is in the wiring itself. In this case, you should ring all the wires used in the fog lamp connection circuit, and also check the correctness of the connection itself.
This can be done using the diagram given at the beginning
In this case, special attention should be paid to the correct connection (to the correct connectors) of the button and relay

Which lamps are the brightest were checked by the Test Lab channel (July 2015). The rating is as follows:
5.
“Behind the Wheel” checked the service life of 11 automobile lamps (August 2017). The reliability rating was as follows:
6.
In May 2022, experts from the Za Rulem magazine tested 9 H7 lamps. Everyone failed, no one worked 500 hours.
The conclusion is sad: purchasing a reliable light bulb has turned into a lottery. During the tests, we did not notice any dependence of the resource on the authority of the brand. And we still recommend purchasing the simplest lamps, without any “tuning” and alluring “additional interest”. True, there are also light bulbs on sale with an increased resource - Long Life. We plan to check them separately.

We find out which PTFs are best suited for the VAZ 2114
Good road lighting is very important for accident-free driving. Fog lights provide better visibility in poor weather conditions. In addition, at night they can be used for better visibility as a complement to the high beams. So sooner or later the question arises, which PTFs are better for the VAZ 2114?
The first series of VAZ 2114 did not have fog lights. In the latest modifications, there are cars that have PTFs included in the kit, while others have bumper plugs for installation.
There are drivers who are satisfied with the standard VAZ version of the PTF. But most people search and compare to choose the most suitable model for their car.
Installation, connection and adjustment of PTF
Depending on the type of fog lights, installation may be simpler or more complex. It is easier to install PTF where there are already places for installation and are simply covered with plugs. If there are no such places, then they will need to be cut or drilled. In the case of VAZ, some owners also sometimes change the entire bumper (for example, from 2115 with holes for PTF).
We also recommend reading the article on how to install the engine start button yourself. From this article you will learn how to install a start-stop button in a car yourself, as well as what to pay attention to when connecting this solution.
If we talk about connection, according to traffic regulations, fog lights should only be turned on together with the side lights. The PTFs themselves must be connected via a relay, suitable wires must be used, and there must be a fuse in the circuit. If you have certain skills, you can install the PTF yourself in a regular garage.
As for adjusting the PTF, this option is not provided on many cars. In the case where headlight adjustment is required on non-adjustable PTFs due to the fact that the fog lights are blinding or do not shine on the road, special gaskets are used to change the tilt angles, overlays are installed, etc. By the way, to adjust the light, you need a special stand, with the help of which you can adjust the low and high beam, as well as the PTF.
Which ones are better?
Typically, standard optics have halogen elements; replacing them with the same ones, but more powerful, makes no sense. It is better to install LED lamps in fog lights; a good option is to replace the fog lamp with xenon (author of the video - Learning to drive a car. All the secrets for beginners.).
LEDs can be installed in PTF without restrictions, unlike xenon. Replacing a light bulb in a fog lamp does not require special equipment or specific knowledge, so you can replace it yourself. It is better to buy products from trusted brands, since cheap Chinese samples are often of poor quality and quickly fail.
When purchasing LEDs, you need to select a lamp with a base similar to the halogen counterpart. An important parameter for fog lights is brightness, measured in Lumens (Lm). Fog lights with xenon must have a brightness of at least 1000 lm.
What kind of bulbs are best for headlights?
Headlights are an integral part of the car, which help you see the road at night and in different weather conditions. After purchasing a car, many drivers think about what lamps to put in the headlights, since the available options do not meet the emerging requirements. According to existing statistics, every fifth accident at night occurs due to poor performance of the lighting system. Studies have also shown that almost every third car has problems with headlights.
What kind of bulbs are best for headlights?
When designing optics in modern cars, the basic laws of lighting engineering are used. The car owner cannot influence the design of the headlights, but replacing light bulbs and improving the quality of light is within the power of everyone.
What kind of lamps can be installed in the headlights:
- Standard H4. These lamps have a power of 60/55 W. Given the presence of two filaments, they can operate in two modes, that is, show high and low beam. When choosing branded light bulbs, you can count on a long service life and stable glow. Manufacturers are working to improve this type of lamp.
- All-weather. Thanks to the use of unique technology, you can count on contrasting lighting during adverse weather conditions. They differ primarily in the presence of a special coating on the bulb, which gives the light flux a yellowish tint.
- Lamps with enhanced luminous flux. Considering the use of a unique light bulb arrangement, the emission power is increased by 30-60% than that of conventional lamps. There is one significant drawback - short service life.
- Lamps for increased comfort. Using unique technology, the headlights generate a bright white stream of light. This lighting option is very similar to daylight, which is more familiar to human eyes. Disadvantage: light rays are reflected from drops of rain, snow and fog, which impairs road visibility.
- Increased power lamps. They can only be used off-road, as they dazzle oncoming traffic too much.
To begin with, it is important to find out what kind of light bulbs are originally installed in the car, or rather their type and power, since this is the value you should rely on. The most popular is white simple halogen
When purchasing, experts recommend paying special attention to the markings, since each model is designed for a specific type of optics. You should not save on light bulbs, since their quality depends on this indicator
What lamps are best for fog lights?
To provide drivers with more comfortable driving during bad weather, special bulbs called fog lights were invented.
What lamps to put in the fog lights:
There are options designed for installation on the bumper, in which special holes are cut. Light bulbs can also be mounted below the bumper on brackets, but experts consider this option to be unsuccessful. Fog lights can be integrated into the overall optics system
They are placed below the main headlights. It is important to have adjustable light output, which allows you to customize the light beam to suit your own car. In fog lamps, the color of the light output is of great importance. The most acceptable option is the yellow color of the PF
The worst choice is blue light bulbs. Many people are interested in whether it is possible to install LED lamps in headlights, but in the case of fog lamps this is quite the right decision. Thanks to their use, it is possible to obtain normally directional light.
How to choose foglights VAZ 2115 and PTF VAZ 2114
Let's start with the fact that there are several types of fog lights. More precisely, there are two types: regular and universal PTFs. It is important to understand that their effectiveness greatly depends on the quality of the fogs themselves.
Let's move on. Standard PTFs can be original or analogues. In any case, they are produced for a specific car model, have similar mounts, housing, etc. Such PTFs are the easiest to install, especially if the bumper already has places for installation, covered with plugs.
Universal PTFs have a mount that allows them to be installed on different car models; such fog lights can be installed in the area of plugs on the bumper, on the radiator grille, hung on the bumper, etc.
- Headlights are also divided according to the type of lamps installed: “classic” halogen, more modern xenon or recently introduced LED. PTFs with a halogen lamp are the most affordable, perform well in difficult conditions, provide a soft and warm yellowish glow, which is best suited for rain and fog.
The disadvantages are the insufficiently bright and strong glow of such lamps, as well as a short service life. At the same time, it is not always possible to replace the blades quickly and easily, taking into account possible difficulties with access (especially if the fogs are installed in standard places).
- PTFs with a xenon lamp shine brighter than halogen lamps, the service life is also 50-60 or even 80-100% longer (provided that high-quality lamps are used). However, the cost of the equipment is much higher; for such lamps it is also necessary to install separate ignition units, correctly connect xenon, etc.
Also, brighter xenon light, which is better than halogen lights on a dry road, often provides worse visibility in fog and rain, since the color temperature is slightly different from halogen headlights, even for xenon analogues that are as close in characteristics as possible.
It is also worth noting that the brighter xenon glow can cause blinding oncoming drivers. Taking into account this feature, PTFs with xenon need to be lowered lower, constantly monitor their adjustment, keep the headlights clean and do not turn on the fog lights under normal conditions (when there is no fog, snow or rain).
- LED PTFs are more economical in terms of energy consumption and place less load on the battery and wiring. The service life of good quality LED PTFs is usually longer than halogen or xenon ones.
Such fogs shine well (if the product is of high quality), in some cases you can change the temperature of the glow (from white to yellow, etc.). In practice, such PTFs may well perform the function of DRLs during daylight hours.
The downside is the high cost of high quality products. Additional requirements should be taken into account during installation, since in case of installation errors or poor ventilation, the LED headlights can become very hot, which renders them inoperable.
