Sales of the new compact crossover Lada Xray will start in December 2015 and early 2016. According to the developers, the serial version of the new car will inherit to the maximum the features of the presented five-door concept car Lada X-Ray 2.

Appearance and dimensions

So, the car will receive a fairly stylish appearance with an abundance of smooth and smooth body shapes. As the name suggests, the front part of the new 2016 car will be decorated with an X-shaped accent that combines complex narrow headlights, a small opening in the false radiator grille with longitudinal, unpainted crossbars and the body of a small horizontal air intake located on the compact front bumper.

The design profile of the Lada X-Ray 2, on the one hand, is quite consistent in terms of proportions, on the other hand, boldly attracts attention with unusual and eccentric stampings on the sidewalls, capturing the space above the wheel arches and part of the side doors of the first and second rows. The stern will delight you with the bright and extravagant boomerangs of the taillights, a compact tailgate, and a small bumper with plastic protection.

The body dimensions of the new car will be 4.315 m in length, 1.65 m in width, 1.625 m in height. The wheelbase size is 2.6 m.

Interior and equipment

It is not yet known exactly what the interior design of the production version of the Lada Xray 2 will be. The concept has a three-spoke steering wheel, two-tone dashboard, door and seat panels, an informative dashboard and a stylish, blown-out center console.

The equipment includes a multifunction steering wheel with column adjustments, heated front seats, and a multimedia complex with a 7-inch touch screen.

Technical characteristics of Lada X Ray 2 2016

The new Russian crossover will receive a transmission from Renault and, along with the VAZ one, an engine from Nissan. Thus, the line of gasoline engines is as follows: Nissan H4, with a volume of 1.6 liters for 114 hp, or the base VAZ 21127 engine of the same volume for 106 hp. Also not immediately, but modifications with a turbocharged unit of 160 hp and a version with a 1.8-liter, 123-horsepower naturally-aspirated engine (173 Nm), supplemented by AMT, which was developed jointly with the German company ZF, will be available.

The Lada Xray 2 suspension will receive settings for the “Sport” mode. As for the drive, there are plans to release 4x4 and 4x2 versions.

According to unconfirmed reports, you can buy a Lada X-Ray 2 for half a million - six hundred thousand rubles.

Already in the minimum configuration, the Lada XRAY2 is equipped with driver and passenger airbags, directional stability systems and automatic emergency call systems (ERA-GLONASS).

The high window sill line, large wheels, increased ground clearance (more than 170 mm) emphasize the “off-road” style of the urban hatchback - compact on the outside and spacious on the inside. Traditionally, like all cars of the Lada model range, XRAY2 is fully adapted to difficult Russian road and climatic operating conditions, suitable for both daily use in the city and for country roads and trips into nature.

Production of the new compact hatchback Lada XRAY is planned to begin in 2016 at the AVTOVAZ site (Togliatti). At the press conference, project manager Oleg Grunenkov noted that AVTOVAZ will not limit itself to just the X-ray; it is also developing a crossover, which will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions.

AVTOVAZ first showed the Lada XRAY concept at the Moscow Motor Show in 2012. It is also presented at the stand today.

Sleek and modern design

The history of the creation of the model dates back to 2012 – then, at the International Moscow Motor Show, the first concept called Xray was shown. In 2014, another new product was presented to the world under the name “Concept 2”, which was already a full-fledged production model. And finally, in 2015, the first “live” five-door cars rolled off the assembly line of the Tolyatti auto giant. The beginner's dimensions are:

  • Length – 4165 mm;
  • Width – 1764 mm;
  • Height – 1570 mm;
  • Wheelbase – 2592 mm;
  • Ground clearance – 195 mm.

The modern cross-hatch from Lada has a decent appearance and is absolutely not inferior to its European competitors. When you look at it, you immediately get the feeling that the company worked with great diligence on the appearance of the car, inviting one of the best designers in the automotive industry, Steve Mattin, to collaborate. It is the British specialist who is the founding father of the Lada design concept, which was called “X-design”.

In the front part:

  • Large headlights;
  • LED daytime running lights integrated into the optics;
  • Fog lights;
  • Branded radiator grille with chrome elements made in “X-design”.

Side:

  • The side panels have decorative X-shaped stamping;
  • Rear view mirrors with turn signal indicators;
  • Light factory window tinting;
  • Steel wheels of 15-inch diameter in the “base” and 16-inch light-alloy wheels in the top.

Stern:

  • Compact stern lights;
  • Decorative inscription “LADA” on the tailgate;
  • Plastic protective insert in the bumper.

It is worth noting that such a progressive cross-hatch is available for purchase at the Avignon car showroom; you can purchase XRay of both 2019 and 2022 release. At the same time, there are additional discounts and promotions for last year’s models. The official dealer guarantees a pleasant low price tag.

European level of interior comfort

The interior matches the exterior and is the result of painstaking work and careful study by AvtoVAZ specialists. There is a lot of free space inside, as well as a large number of different niches and pockets that add convenience to any trip. Also available:

  • Finishing options: high-quality matte plastic, fabric seat upholstery or combined fabric/eco leather.

Reliable technical part

For Xray, the Volzhsky Automobile Plant offers a line of naturally aspirated, gasoline, 4-cylinder, 16-valve engines entirely of its own design:

  • The base unit is the VAZ-21129 power unit with a displacement of 1.6 liters, operating according to a multi-point power supply scheme;
  • Power – 106 horsepower, torque – 148 Nm;
  • Works in tandem with a 5-speed “mechanics” JH3 manufactured by Renault;
  • The top one is the 1.8-liter VAZ-21176 engine with distributed fuel injection;
  • Its output: 122 hp. and 170 Newton meters;
  • It is aggregated together with a 5-speed manual transmission or with a 5-speed AMT (“robot”);

Chassis and braking system:

  • Platform – B0;
  • Front suspension – McPherson;
  • Rear – semi-independent, lever, spring;
  • Front brakes – ventilated disc;
  • Rear - drum;
  • The steering wheel is power-assisted.

Safety:

The first concept of Lada XRAY 2012

At the Moscow Motor Show in 2012, AVTOVAZ first presented the XRAY concept; it defined the so-called style DNA. It is clear that since then the car has been modified - only general features have been preserved from the concept. True, the style elements laid down in that first concept were preserved and adapted.

Now AVTOVAZ faces another task - to make an all-wheel drive XRAY. It will have a different level of noise insulation and a set of useful options even in minimal configurations.

Grunenkov noted that he is familiar with the criticism of the new product and tries to perceive it from a professional point of view. AVTOVAZ carefully monitors all user comments on social networks, and also works with potential buyers through the Customer Satisfaction Center.

So, many people think that the wheel size of a hatchback is too small. Grunenkov explained that it was defined in terms of handling and cross-country ability. The alloy wheel itself measures 16 inches, but the tire has certain off-road characteristics and is quite tall. If necessary, XRAY can also be used on a dirt road. Drum brakes are installed at the rear of the car, as they are better protected in aggressive environments: dust, snow, dirt. Disc brakes are more capricious in this regard, but options for their use will be considered in the future on special versions of the car.

Oleg Grunenkov is a truly irreplaceable specialist at AVTOVAZ: he was the technical manager of the Priora project, managed the Lada Granta and Kalina projects. He currently heads the XRAY project and took the time to tell fans of the Lada brand about decisions that seemed incomprehensible or controversial to a number of critics of the model.
