  • the use of a main pair with a reduced gear ratio.

To increase the suspension, the travel of the front shock absorbers was increased by 2.5 cm, and the travel of the rear shock absorbers was increased by 5.0 cm. Special spacers appeared under the upper front ball joints; on the rear axle, the spring supports were raised by 4.0 cm. The bridge itself and the springs have been strengthened. These changes increased the vehicle's ground clearance, which reduced the load dynamics and it better copes with potholes and uneven roads.

The use of locking front and rear differentials also increases the cross-country ability of the NIVA LYNX. Flaws

Improving the off-road qualities of the Niva Lynx does not at all cancel out all the shortcomings that the base model VAZ-21214 suffers from.

The main thing is the spartan, if not shabby, interior. It is clear that this is not a Bentley Bentayga - Niva is a utilitarian SUV, but, apart from the comfortable seats for the driver and front passenger, the concept of “comfort” is completely absent here. The lack of dynamics begins to be felt only at speeds closer to one hundred, but we must not forget that the Lada 4x4 is not a city sedan or hatchback, or even a crossover, but a classic SUV with a monocoque body.

It also needs to be said that Bronto, unlike a regular Lada, has a higher center of gravity, and accordingly, the likelihood of a rollover on such a car increases.

In the spring of 2022, the production of a new version of the LADA 4X4 Bronto (Lynx) began. The main differences from the regular version are the modified chassis, thanks to which its cross-country properties are not inferior to more expensive foreign analogues. This model performs well both off-road and on regular roads. Until 2013, production was in small batches of about 300 pieces per year.

Niva Bronto, the new model, due to spacers, is raised by 40 millimeters, which helped make the road overhangs shorter and increase the ground clearance to 24 centimeters. As for the springs, they are installed from the Chevrolet Niva, since their service life and the loads that they can take on are greater than those of a regular Niva.

The wheel arches have special extensions that protect against sand and dirt. Standard tires were replaced with Cordiant off Road tires 205/70/R15, which made it possible to increase the track to 1479 millimeters.

The engine remained the same, with a power of 83 horsepower and 1.69 liters, but this does not prevent it from showing excellent results on off-road. If manufacturers decided to install a different power unit, this would entail modernizing the entire engine compartment, and accordingly increasing costs, which would lead to an increase in the price, which had already increased. But the transmission has undergone changes; a VAL-Racing self-locking cross-axle differential system has been installed, with a locking coefficient of 50% and a preload of 4.5 kg; as for the main pair, it is around 4.1. The improved version of the transmission behaves much better off-road, while handling on normal roads has not deteriorated, plus the suspension travel has increased, and the rear axle has become stronger.

The sound insulation of the cabin has become much better, and a roof rack with four spotlights was installed on the roof, the load of which is designed for 200 kilograms of cargo.

Common features

Since the manufacturer proceeded from the decision not to subject the model to only external restyling, most of the design features of the car remained unchanged. A person ignorant in the world of the domestic automobile industry may not even be able to distinguish two cars standing next to each other, mistaking them for the same model. Many details of the interior of the cabin remain recognizable, although in the modified version it looks somewhat more presentable.

The alteration did not affect the engine either: the same engine of the same volume flaunts under the hood of the “Brontosaurus”. Equipping the Bronto with a new engine would, perhaps, be prohibitively expensive and time-consuming for the manufacturer, so the well-proven in-line “four” fell into place without any changes to the engine compartment.

Price

The cost of the Niva Bronto starts at approximately 650 thousand rubles, which is significantly higher than the price of a regular Niva; this price is due to the improved suspension, thanks to which its passable qualities remain at a high level. But the demand for this model is small since engineers were carried away by improving the passable qualities while forgetting about comfort and build quality, plus to all this, the gearbox levers are located very inconveniently, which creates inconvenience while driving. But despite all the shortcomings, this car has excellent off-road qualities, which are the focus when purchasing this SUV.
