Discs for Lada Granta - marking and replacement procedure

The main element of the wheel is the rim. It is designed to fix a car tire and attach the entire structure to the drive - transmitting torque from the engine and gearbox. Lada Granta wheels differ in production technology and materials used. The choice of wheels is determined by car enthusiasts based on the parameters of width, radius, and appearance.

Standard Lada Granta wheel sizes

Depending on the vehicle's configuration, it may use tires and wheels of different diameters and widths. The year of manufacture of the car also plays an important role.

The first generation of Lada Granta was equipped with wheels with the following parameters:

EquipmentTire sizeDisc offset
Standard175/70R13 or 175/65R1435
Norm185/60R1435
Lux185/55R1535
Sport195/50R1635

Many people mistakenly perceive the letter R as a “radius”, but in fact, it only means the structure of the tire – radial. The numbers after the letter R are the diameter of the disc in inches.

Since 2022, the configurations have changed slightly. Now tires and wheels are installed in the following sizes:

EquipmentTire sizesDisc offset
Standard175/65R1435
Norm185/60R1435
Lux185/55R1535
Cross195/55R1533

These are all the standard sizes of tires and wheels that are installed on the Lada Granta from the factory.

Let's sum it up

As you can see, 15-inch wheels on the popular LADA Granta model are not associated with subsequent driving discomfort and do not provoke difficulties during the installation process. We recommend considering cast versions of products that have these advantages and are more accessible due to their moderate price factor.

One of the most modern creations of the AvtoVAZ concern is the Lada Granta car. The model first rolled off the assembly line in 2011 and is still in production. The number of cars sold in Russia and abroad is more than one hundred thousand - this indicates the popularity of the model among drivers, since its spectacular appearance, improved quality of all parts, increased engine life, as well as a relatively low price make it one of the most popular today . Of course, all related auto parts are widely represented on the market, and one of the main ones are wheel rims.

What are the maximum wheels you can put on a Grant?

It is worth noting that the permissible tire and wheel sizes must not be exceeded. It is not by chance that the manufacturer sets these restrictions.

First of all, a large wheel will touch the arch or fender liner and prevent the wheel from fully turning when cornering.

The second point is the huge load on the wheel bearings. The larger the diameter of the wheel and the more it weighs, the more the bearing is loaded. Eventually, it begins to hum due to wear and tear and fails.

The maximum wheel and tire size allowed by the manufacturer is as follows:

  • 185/65 R15;
  • 195/60 R15;
  • 195/55 R16;
  • 185/40R17.

Many car owners managed to replace the standard tires with size 205/70R16. This can only be done on a Lada Granta Cross and then with a lifted suspension. But this is nothing good for the car.

When replacing disks, it is important to install the appropriate bolts and observe the wheel bolt pattern of the Lada Granta - 4x98.

This list can be continued indefinitely. The fact is that the profile also affects the possible diameter. The smaller the tire profile, the larger the rim that can be installed on the car.

It is worth noting that Granta has the potential to install larger wheels. For this purpose, a special limiter was even provided on the standard steering rack, which prevents the wheels from touching the fender liners with a large turnout.

Selection of wheels for Lada Granta

Car owners prefer to install cast wheels made of light alloy materials. The most common sizes are R14, R15, R16. Wheel rims with sizes R13 and R17 are less common. In the first case, the wheel is too small and does not look good, and in the second, it is too large and can cling to the fender liners and arch when performing various maneuvers. All-season, summer and winter tires for Lada Granta are suitable for standard sizes.

Tire size chart

Unlike the standard sedan, the Lada Granta Sport is already equipped as standard with 16-inch cast multi-spoke wheels, complementing the appearance of the sports version. The liftback is also complemented by these rims, but only in smaller sizes (R14, R15) and exclusively in the “Lux” trim levels. In all cases of changing wheels, you should follow some rules:

  1. When choosing new rims, the main criterion should be adhered to not so much changing the car’s exterior for the better, but rather the design features of the car’s chassis, the quality of the road surface and the driver’s driving style. The maximum permissible wheel diameter on low-profile tires will look out of place on poorly surfaced roads. The assembled product will quickly fail on bumps and holes.
  2. If wheels are selected for the Sport version of the Grant, then the size of the brake discs and calipers should be taken into account. Since these cars have larger brake mechanisms, in order to avoid touching the wheels, it is better not to install rims smaller than 16 inches.

Low-profile tires have higher dynamic characteristics, but are inferior in driving comfort to high-profile tires. For everyday driving, you should choose standard tires on a standard rim.

What tire pressure should be on Grant

In addition to the wheel size, it is also necessary to observe such a parameter as tire pressure. Do not forget that the pressure can be different and it accordingly affects the handling of the car and tire wear:

  • Low pressure is dangerous when cornering. You can “take off” the wheel while driving. In addition, tire wear increases along the edges of the tread.
  • High pressure - reduces the grip of the wheels on the road, increases the likelihood of a tire explosion, and tread wear increases in the middle.

Tire pressure should always be rated and depends on the vehicle load. Normal pressure is as follows:

  • For R13 – 1.9 atm.
  • For R14 and R15 – 2.0 atm.

When loading the car, you should increase the tire pressure to 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 in accordance with the weight of the load. This will help maintain tire traction and maintain efficiency.

Winter tires for Lada Granta

The selection of winter tires for the Lada Granta should be based on the characteristics of the terrain on which you will have to drive. If the roads are not cleared enough, and the winter threatens frequent thaws followed by frosts, then in this case you should use studded tires.

Tires for winter use must have soft contact with the road surface, which will provide a reliable degree of traction even on packed snow, and the tread base must be rigid for precise steering. Goodyear, Pirelli and Dinlop Winter companies have the necessary dimensional characteristics for the Lada Granta, namely in the range from R13 to R16.

Winter tires will also require running-in to ensure they fit firmly in their seats. For a good break-in, you will need to drive about 500 kilometers. When running in, you should try to avoid sudden braking and slipping. To improve traction, it is also recommended to choose tires with a narrow profile.

Is it worth increasing the Lada Granta track?

The track is the width between wheels located on the same axle. Increasing the track width allows the installation of wider wheels and improves vehicle handling, especially with a large suspension lift. But it’s clearly not worth increasing the track on Grant.

The track can be increased by using special spacers for the hub. Each car owner decides for himself whether to increase the track or not. But it’s worth knowing how this will affect other components of the car.

The fact is that the thicker the hub becomes and the thicker the wheel, the more the wheel bearing wears out. In addition, such tuning can negatively affect the drives. The grenades will be seriously loaded.

It is possible to carry out such tuning, but provided that a reinforced wheel hub is used, an appropriate bearing, and also paired with good drives.

The best models for summer

Now let's present several worthy summer models:

Bridgestone Ecopia EP150

The tread of this Japanese tire is developed using a new technology (NANO-PROTECH), which makes it possible to reduce the coefficient of rotational resistance and, as a result, save fuel consumption. Plus, the EP150 turned out to be lighter in weight and almost silent.

Nitto NT860

Another Japanese tire produced in Malaysia. Very soft rubber, perfectly balanced and brakes, thanks to the deep tread, self-cleaning from dirt and snow. With all this, the best thing is the low price.

Kormoran Impulser B2

Serbian Kormoran was developed using Michelin technology. The tire is stable when driving at speed, does not “float” if it gets into a puddle, has excellent grip on the road and is controlled when cornering.

Matador MP 47 Hectorra

The new generation summer tire from Slovenia MP-47 Hectorra performs excellently on both dry and wet surfaces thanks to its asymmetrical pattern with four deep longitudinal grooves.

Tread elements are optimized to the maximum, which improves acceleration and braking efforts and reduces noise levels.

Which winter tires are best for a car, or what to put on it for the summer, is, of course, up to the owner to decide. It all depends on what climate zone you have to use the car and what roads you drive on. And our information is designed to understand the characteristics of certain models and the advisability of their use.

How non-standard wheels can affect

Wheel parameters can affect vehicle handling and comfort. But it should be taken into account that the better the car’s handling, the worse this affects the comfort of the suspension.

The smaller the rubber profile and the larger the disc diameter, the better the Granta’s handling. In addition, fuel consumption increases, steering accuracy increases, but the noise of the tires and the vehicle's resistance to aquaplaning do not change. Of course, a large disc will negatively affect comfort.

Tire and wheel width can also affect handling, stability and increased tire wear. The width of the tires will also negatively affect the vehicle's resistance to hydroplaning, but can increase traction, provided the road surface is dry. Ideally, asphalt.

The width of the tires plays virtually no role in improving or deteriorating comfort.

A smaller rim means the use of rubber with a larger profile. Consequently, the wheels will be softer, which means increased comfort. But you need to understand that such a configuration does not fit in with improved handling.

Do not forget that the size of the disk can also affect the dynamic performance of the car. The manufacturer uses tire and wheel sizes at which speed and acceleration will be the highest, and the load on the engine and transmission will be minimal.

Deviation from these dimensions entails certain consequences - reduced dynamics, inaccurate speedometer readings and much more.

The width of the rims and their diameter can affect the suspension geometry. Therefore, after installing large wheels, it is necessary to do a wheel alignment.

How can I find out about the disk parameters myself?

The technical passport of a particular car contains information not only about what factory wheels it has, but also contains instructions for installing them. If this useful guide is not nearby, then you can arm yourself with a ruler and visually determine the characteristics of interest.

If you need to choose 15-inch wheels, you must have knowledge regarding such parameters.

  1. “ET” (offset) - denotes the numerical expression of the distance between two planes, or more precisely: the surface of contact with the hub and the vertical plane of symmetry of a particular product. The indicated value is intended to indicate how much the disk is able to “peek out” from under the wing. The parameter affects the degree of stability of the car. Typically, the numerical criterion for overhang starts at 40 mm.
  2. “DIA” is the diameter of the hole that allows the wheel to fit onto the hub surface. When choosing a product, you should take into account the corresponding hub parameter. The measurement is carried out in millimeters.
  3. Bolt pattern (in our version 4x98). The first number in the formula means the numerical composition of the fastening bolts, and the second is the diameter, on the line of which the centers of the holes for fasteners are located.
  4. Disc width. This ordinary characteristic is usually expressed in inches. For LADA Granta the following values are valid: 5; 5.5 and 6.

Armed with the above information, even an inexperienced owner will be able to select a suitable set of disks, thereby replacing the factory disks.

Parameters of standard nuts

One of the main parameters of nuts or bolts is the shape of their pressing surface, which can have several varieties. When selecting the necessary nuts, you should proceed from the shape of the recess in the mounting hole of the disk.

Most often it is necessary to use bolts or nuts with a cone-shaped clamping part. As a rule, the cone has an angle of 60°. Sometimes such bolts may have a 1.3 mm head and a nose at the end of the nut.

The clamping surface of the fastener can also be flat or hemispherical

It is important that the clamping planes of the fastener and the disk fully correspond to each other. Otherwise, over time, as a result of strong dynamic loads, the attachment point will weaken

When choosing nuts with closed heads, you should pay attention to their length

If the pin prematurely rests on its inner part, then it will not be possible to fully tighten it. Also, nuts that are too short may not leave room for the socket head of the impact wrench. Some wheel models only allow the use of hex or star nuts.

When choosing bolts, you need to consider their length. A reliable connection can only be achieved if the bolt is screwed in to the entire threaded thickness of the hub. However, if it is too long, then when the car moves, such fasteners will begin to cling to internal structures.
