How to find out the country of manufacture by VIN code
Due to the large volumes of automobile production, Toyota locates its factories around the world.
Therefore, the body number contains symbols that show in which country the car was assembled. In order to understand this, you should pay attention to the first 3 characters in the VIN code. If the code starts with a number (1, 4, 5) then the car is made in the USA, for example: 1T1, 5X0
If the first digit is 2, then the car is from Canada. A three at the beginning of the VIN means that the car was assembled in Mexico, 6 – Australia, 7 – New Zealand, 8 – Argentina, Venezuela, 9 – Brazil, Colombia. Vin starting with the letter A is assembled in South Africa. The capital letter J belongs to Japan, and the X at the beginning will mean that the model is produced in Russia.
Who assembles Toyota Camry
Where are Kia cars assembled for Russia and other countries?
The production of Toyota Camry depends on the country where this model is assembled. “Crown” cars are made in six factories in five countries. Each of them has excellent production and installed the most modern equipment.
The main country where Toyota Camry is made is Japan. The car is produced in the city of the same name in the province of Aichi. The plant assembly is rightfully considered the best in the world for Camry models.
In America, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc plant, where the Toyota Camry is manufactured, is located in the United States. In Kentucky, cars have been coming off the assembly line for a long time, and this is where very powerful equipment is located.
Another plant located in America is located in the state of Indiana in the city of Gibson. The production name is Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. It consists of several divisions, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, Inc. - one of them. Toyota Camry has been produced here since 2003.
The fourth Toyota Camry assembly plant is located in Australia. It was opened more than 50 years ago and is a leader in the production of machines in the Pacific regions. The assembly shop is located in the city of Altona. The model has been produced here since 2009. Also, the production of cars with hybrid power plants has been launched here.
In addition to the Australian market, this plant produces its cars in the markets of the Middle East, Southeast Asia and New Zealand.
The Chinese version of the Toyota Camry is made at the GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. plant. The company is located in Guangzhou. The company was created in 2004, and the first Camrys rolled off the assembly line in May 2006. The production of hybrid engines for the Camry has also been established here.
Where are Toyota cars assembled?
In Russia, Toyota is one of the most popular car brands, and the Toyota automaker is rightfully one of the world's automotive giants and one of the leaders in passenger car sales throughout the world. In our country, Toyota cars are popular for one reason - most of the models are “purebred” Japanese and are not assembled in Russia, although the situation tends to go the other way.
Toyota factories
In order to make it easier for us to further understand where Toyota cars are assembled, let's first look at all the companies closely associated with the brand, and the factories from which cars of this brand can be supplied to Russia, but there are not many of these factories.
- Toyota Motor RUS is a company that officially represents the Toyota brand in Russia, selling almost all models in our country, assembled anywhere.
- The Toyota plant in Shushary (St. Petersburg) is the first Toyota assembly line in our country, built in 2005, and in 2007 it produced the first car from its walls.
The plant’s employees—almost 2,000 of them work here—regularly undergo internships at Toyota’s original plants—factories in Japan, and the quality of the products here is very strictly monitored. The company assembles, paints and welds body parts for Toyota vehicles, producing a total of 35,685 vehicles in 2013. Plant near St. Petersburg - Factory Takaoka in Japan is one of the company's largest factories in the world and the original Toyota enterprise, producing 10 models of the concern's cars since back in 1918. The plant's turnover is the production of almost 6 million cars per year, which are assembled by 280 thousand employees.
- Tsutsumi - another one of the largest Toyota assembly shops. And this is where employees working at the plant near St. Petersburg undergo training. In addition, the Tsutsumi plant is also known for the widest production of Prius vehicles for various markets.
Toyota models assembled at the following plants are also supplied to Russia:
- Tahara plant in Japan
- Burnaston plant in England
- Factory Valenciennes, France
- Sakarya Factory, Türkiye
So, where are specific Toyota car models assembled?
Where is Toyota Corolla assembled?
Until recently, this best-selling model in our country was assembled exclusively in Japan - at the Takaoka plant. However, everything changed with the arrival of the 11th generation Corolla in mid-2013, when the model for Russia began to be assembled in the city of Sakarya in Turkey and delivered to Russia through the city of Novorossiysk. In total, today you can buy a new Toyota Corolla assembled exclusively in Turkey, and with mileage - assembled only in Japan.
As for the build quality, in general, according to reviews, it was practically not affected - the Turkish plant before the start of assembly was slightly improved in equipment, the staff was increased here and additional investments were made.
However, the assembly of Toyota cars in Turkey is more likely a well-forgotten old than a new one - in the period from 1994 to 2006. Corollas were already produced here for Russia, as well as a number of other countries.
Where is Toyota Camry assembled?
Until the end of 2007, Toyota Camry cars were also assembled in Japan at the Tsutsumi plant, but everything changed in December 2007, when the first car of this domestically assembled model rolled off the assembly line of the Shushary plant in Russia. Since then, all Camrys have been produced at this plant.
Where is Toyota RAV4 assembled?
The most popular crossover of the brand is precisely that “purebred” Japanese Toyota - today Toyota RAV4 for Russia is assembled exclusively in Japan at the Tahara and Takaoka factories. However, by 2016 the situation may change, since Toyota plans to assemble the Toyota RAV4 at the St. Petersburg plant in Russia - this will happen according to the automaker’s plans no earlier than 2016.
Where is Toyota Highlander assembled?
Another crossover, which is slightly higher in class than the RAV4 model and is located in the Toyota model range between the RAV4 and Prado, is distinguished by the fact that its production was not launched for the purpose of sales in Japan, where the brand itself comes from. The Toyota Highlander is mainly sold in the USA, where it belongs to the class of mid-size SUVs.
We have selected something even more interesting for you: Where are Renault cars assembled?
Highlander models assembled in the USA and somewhat adapted to Russian driving conditions are supplied to Russia.
Where is Toyota Land Cruiser Prado/100/200 assembled?
The most interesting Toyota models, interesting to fans of large SUVs, are also produced exclusively in Japan and are thus considered to be the “purebred” Japanese of the brand. All three models are assembled at the Tahara plant (the same place where the RAV4 is assembled).
Where is Toyota Avensis assembled?
But Avensis is a model that, despite being a Japanese brand, is not assembled in Japan and is not at all intended for the Japanese market. Avensises assembled in England at the Burnaston plant are supplied to Russia.
Where is Toyota Auris assembled?
One of Toyota's best-selling models and one of the best-selling hatchbacks in the world, the Toyota Auris is assembled, like the Avensis, at the same Burnaston plant in England. However, previous versions of Auris were supplied to Russia from Japan (Takaoka plant) and therefore, when buying a used Toyota Auris, you can find a “purebred” Japanese.
Where is Toyota Corolla Verso assembled?
Just like its younger brother, Toyota Corolla, Versa is assembled in Turkey.
Where is Toyota Yaris assembled?
Toyota's most compact model, the Yaris, known in its native Japanese market as the Toyota Vitz, is assembled for the Russian market at the Valenciennes plant in France.
Where is Toyota Hilux assembled?
But the Hilux pickup truck from the Japanese manufacturer is a real exclusive in the countries of assembly for our country - today Toyota Hilux is assembled for Russia in South Africa and Thailand (for others, the country is also in Indonesia and Argentina).
Where is Toyota FJ Cruiser assembled?
A crossover with an unusual design, the Toyota FJ Cruiser is truly Japanese - the model for Russia is assembled only in Japan.
Where is Toyota Prius assembled?
The legendary Toyota model, primarily due to the production of its hybrid version, which is gaining more and more popularity in our country every year (along with the rise in gasoline prices), Toyota Prius, is also a “purebred” Japanese and is produced at the Tsutsumi plant in Japan .
Where is Toyota Venza assembled?
Toyota Venza is a less popular Toyota crossover in our country, which, like the Highlander, is assembled at a factory in the United States.
The Toyota concern also has a huge number of factories where numerous brand models are assembled, the most famous and voluminous of which are located in China, the Emirates, Australia, and South American countries, however, cars assembled at such factories are not supplied to Russia.
Meanwhile, information about where the Toyota model that belongs specifically to you or that you want to purchase is assembled can be provided by decoding the VIN code of this model. To do this, learn how to decipher the VIN code.
Where is Toyota Camry assembled for Russia?
Where are Kia Sportage made for Russia and other countries?
For our market, Toyota Camry is assembled directly here. The plant is called Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia and is located near St. Petersburg. Cars of the current brand have been rolling off the Russian assembly line since 2007. At the moment, the Japanese are considering the creation of another enterprise in the Russian Federation
Particular attention here will be focused on cars of class “E” and “D”, therefore, this also applies to the Toyota Camry model
But at the moment there are not enough cars produced in St. Petersburg. Therefore, most copies come from Japan. Although, if you look at it, the Japanese brand did not set itself the goal of releasing as many models as possible
All the attention of Russian engineers was focused on the quality of cars. Therefore, our Toyota Camry meets all Japanese quality standards
The plant in Russia received all the same new technologies that are installed in the production facilities of the Land of the Rising Sun. Any model goes through many stages of verification. If any defect is found here, the car will be immediately sent for recycling. Our plant carries out a full production cycle of Toyota Camry.
The Russian-made Camry differs from the Japanese one only in tires. The Japanese install Yokohama tires, while our specialists prefer Michelin. Also worth mentioning is the quality of the paintwork. Russian paint is very soft. You will feel the differences almost immediately, because to scratch the Toyota Camry of our assembly, a small branch from a tree is enough. The Japanese use a different coating method and paint of a different quality. Therefore, they are not afraid of such problems.
The drawback of both our and the Japanese assembly is the upholstery. Its quality could be better, and it is significantly inferior to competitors in the segment.
Toyota car production
The corporation's main production facilities are located in Japan, but with the growth of sales volumes outside the homeland, the auto giant has significantly expanded its field of activity. Large factories are located in Thailand, Indonesia, as well as other Asian countries, Canada, the USA and Europe. Toyota cars come to Russia, assembled at factories in Japan, England, Turkey, France, but some models are also assembled in the Russian Federation. No matter where the brand's cars are produced, the requirements for the level of quality are the same.
Where is Toyota Corolla assembled?
The famous car model, the record holder for the number of sales worldwide and the flagship of the automaker, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016. Over its history, Corolla has undergone many reincarnations, without ever changing its name. Today the 12th generation of the legend is already on the assembly line.
Toyota Corolla
Motorists are always demanding about the issue of car reliability, and not least of all they are interested in where Toyota Corolla is assembled. Due to the enormous popularity of the model, production is carried out in different countries around the world. Thus, until the mid-90s, cars of various modifications were supplied to the European market from the Japanese factories Takaoka and Tsutsumi; for the American consumer, production is based in the USA.
Since 1994, the corporation acquired assembly shops in England and Turkey, so until 2006, Turkish-assembled cars were supplied to the Russian car market, as well as the CIS countries. With the increase in volumes, factories were also opened in Asia, South America, Canada, and Africa, where Corolla was also assembled.
Cars of the 10th generation, including restyled versions, were assembled for Russia only in Japan, while the automaker was closely involved in modernizing the assembly line in the city of Sakarya (Turkey). The quality of the Turkish assembly differed from the Japanese one not for the better, and the automaker, which produced millions of copies of the legendary model, could not allow the performance to deteriorate. After bringing production capacity to the appropriate level, the 11th generation Corolla has been produced at the Turkish plant since 2013.
Where is Toyota Camry assembled?
Another iconic car of the Japanese automaker, already in its eighth generation. Toyota Camry, winner of an impressive number of prizes and awards, is in great demand all over the world, and the model is also in demand among Russians. The main assembly line is located in Japan, but Camry is also produced in Russia, Australia, China, and the USA. In the Russian Federation, since 2007, a production process has been launched in Shushary near St. Petersburg, where cars of this model are still assembled. Moreover, starting from 2011, due to growing demand and the inability to cover it with the number of domestically assembled cars, supplies of cars from Japan were also organized.
The corporation's management strictly controls the car manufacturing process at all stages of production. The factories are equipped with modern equipment and use the same high-quality components as during assembly at home, so Russian assembly also meets quality standards. The difference between a Toyota Camry of Japanese and domestic production lies in the tires installed (for the Japanese they are Yokohama, for us - Michelin) and the paintwork, which is more durable on Japanese models.
Toyota Camry
Where is Toyota Rav-4 assembled?
The compact crossover has been produced in Japan since 1994, and is already in its fifth generation of the famous model. The car is in great demand among motorists all over the world, including our compatriots. The assembly of Toyota Rav-4 for consumers from Europe is carried out at the Japanese factories Tahara and Takaoka, and since 2016, production has also been established at the domestic plant in Shushary, aimed not only at the Russian market, but also Kazakhstan and Belarus. For North America, cars are made in Canada (Ontario).
Toyota Rav-4
Where are Toyota Highlander cars assembled?
Another crossover from the Japanese auto giant, but already in a higher class than the Rav-4. This model is not intended for sale within Japan; it is aimed at the US consumer. The Toyota Highlander mid-size SUV is produced for Americans at Japanese factories, as well as in China. Cars are delivered to Russia from the USA, where they are assembled in Princeton, Indiana. The Russian modification, adapted to our operating conditions, differs, depending on the configuration, from the American version in interior variations, number of seats (the luxury version of the Highlander for Russia has a seven-seater interior), electronic equipment and additional systems. Unlike the American, our crossover does not have the option of automatic braking, DVD for rear seat passengers and Internet access.

Where are Toyota Land Cruiser Prado/100/200 cars assembled?
Real SUVs, representing the pride of the automaker and stuffed with all sorts of “goodies” for overcoming off-road conditions, could not but please Russian motorists. All three Toyota Land Cruiser Prado/100/200 models come from Japan (they are made at the Tahara plant) both for sale within the country and abroad. It is noteworthy that right- and left-hand drive cars are manufactured on the same assembly line.
Since 2013, the Land Cruiser Prado for the Russian market has been stamped at a plant in Vladivostok, but work was stopped in 2015. On the conveyors where the car comes off, quality control is strengthened, so no objective differences were noticed between the Japanese and our assembly.

Where are Toyota Hilux cars assembled?
The renowned mid-size pickup truck, the first production car in which a person reached the north magnetic pole, is in its eighth generation. The simplicity and reliability of the design have ensured the Toyota Hilux model worldwide popularity. The car appeared in Russia in 2010, assembly is carried out in South Africa and Thailand, and for a number of other countries - in Indonesia and Argentina.
Toyota Hilux
Where is Toyota Venza assembled?
An all-wheel drive crossover, presented on the North American market since 2008, and on the Russian market since 2013. The car is not very popular among domestic consumers, despite all his love for Toyota. The Venza model was created in the USA, from where it came to Russia; in the Russian version, the car was distinguishable from its relative by the suspension settings, external elements and interior decorations. In 2015, Toyota Venza was discontinued in the United States, and from the beginning of 2016 it also left Russian spaces. The model is now available in Canada and China.
Where is Toyota Avensis assembled?
The Toyota Avensis was created for the European market and is not produced in Japan. The model is supplied to Russia from the plant in the city of Burnaston, in the UK. Almost the full cycle of car creation takes place here; engines for them are produced at a plant in North Wales.
Representatives of the latest version of the Auris model, previously supplied to Russia from Japan, come from the same plant.

Where is Toyota Fortuner assembled?
A mid-size car in the SUV segment, made on the basis of the Hilux pickup truck, appeared in Russia quite recently, and taking into account the wide production geography of Toyota brand vehicles, Russians had a natural question about where the Toyota Fortuner comes from. This model is not offered in Japan, Europe, North America, China and Australia. Initially, the Toyota Fortuner SUV, also referred to as Toyota SW4, was assembled in Thailand, it was intended for the local market, and later introduction also began in Indonesia and a number of other countries. The car arrived in Russia from Thailand. Since 2014, production was launched in the city of Kostanay, Kazakhstan, but then production had to be stopped.

Where is Toyota C-HR assembled?
A new product on the Russian market, the Toyota C-HR crossover with an extraordinary appearance typical of Nissan's Beetles has already begun its march along the roads of the Russian Federation. The SUV launched successfully in Europe and at home, where entire queues lined up for it. The car is assembled in Japan, and the C-HR comes to Russia in Turkish assembly (from the plant in Sakarya, where Corolla and Verso are assembled).

Release of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Vladivostok
Where are Hyundai Solaris produced for Russia and other countries?
In 2013, the assembly of the world-famous Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV began in the Far East. The price of the car remained the same as for the Japanese assembly of this car. The production volume planned for the coming year should be 25 thousand cars per year.
Whether this will succeed, time will tell.
Toyota production in Russia
was aimed at the Russian automobile market. And many were counting on a reduction in prices for models assembled in our country. Which, unfortunately, did not happen, in particular with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. But, despite this, many Russian car enthusiasts, who are financially able to do so, give their preference to this frame SUV. It is able to best emphasize the style and wealth of the car owner.
Toyota brand cars today are familiar not only to every motorist, but also to children. The world's largest Japanese automobile manufacturing corporation, with a rich and almost century-old history that began with the production of looms, has grown to unprecedented proportions.
The country producing Toyota cars is Japan, but production is based not only in the homeland; the steady growth of the scale of the enterprise has necessitated the creation of factories around the world, where cars are produced under the Toyota brand for different markets.
The establishment of Toyota Motors Corporation is officially dated August 28, 1937. Until this time, since 1933, the line for the production of gasoline-powered cars was part of the Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, specializing in the creation of weaving machines. The founder of the corporation, Kiichiro Toyoda, having studied the automobile industry of the United States and Europe, was inspired by the idea of automobile manufacturing and, thanks to the support of his father, was able to successfully implement it. Despite the post-war crisis, the company still managed to stay afloat and flourish with renewed vigor, steadily increasing production rates every year. Toyota Motors suffered losses only in 2009, but the situation began to improve in the next year.
Toyota is one of the ten largest corporations in the world, and the scope of the company’s activities is not limited to the automotive industry, although this is the main direction, the business is also tied to other areas, providing financial services, etc. The brand has been invariably associated with cars for decades. in the line of which almost every model becomes a hit. Subsidiaries also play an important role in the development of Toyota Motors. Millions of cars of all classes and types under the brands Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu, Scion, and Hino leave the assembly lines of the corporation's factories every year.

What is the difference between the builds?
The main components and assemblies, including body hardware, are supplied to the Russian automobile plant directly from Japan. In St. Petersburg, only assembly is carried out from ready-made components and parts. To find out how to distinguish the assembly of a Toyota Camry, it would be useful to go over the main points affecting the production of this car in Russia.
What is the difference between the assemblies
Only the following domestic spare parts are installed on our cars:
- Instead of Japanese Yokohama, Russian cars are equipped with Michelin wheels welded at the Moscow Region plant. But the tire dimensions are similar;
- Passenger seats for Russian versions of cars are produced directly on the territory of the plant, in one of the subsidiaries. But at the same time, their appearance, quality and design are no different from those produced in Japan - even the colors of the seat upholstery are similar;
- glasses for the domestic Camry are produced by the Borsky plant and also have no external differences.
Everything else is completely similar to the Japanese version of the car, right down to the chemical composition of the paintwork and the method of applying it.
What is better - Japanese or Russian assembly?
When the plant appeared in Russia, the question arose of what was better to choose: Japanese or local assembly. There is an opinion that original assemblies are more reliable and of higher quality, but is this really so? This is how a Toyota Camry is assembled in Russia (video), and here you can make sure that technical progress in Russia does not stand still, and the assembly process is carried out in compliance with all necessary precautions and in accordance with international standards and requirements.
User experience suggests that the car is not much different from its Japanese twins. Of course, there are small parts that differ from Japanese modifications, for example, tires or glass, but domestic spare parts in this regard are of the same quality and reliability as those used in Japan. However, according to sociological surveys (https://info.drom.ru/surveys/10996/), more than 75% of motorists are completely unsure, and the rest for the most part believe that decent quality of Russian assembly is only possible with strict control over this process .
Russian assembly is definitely cheaper, which is good news. All tests show that the engine (which, remember, is assembled abroad) is capable of operating at the same level as the Japanese versions, and this is one of the main indicators of technology of this level. Other mechanisms and control systems also do not fail during inspections and tests.
It is humorously assumed that if representatives of the official Toyota company decide to play a prank on users and swap the Japanese and Russian modifications, then no one will notice the replacement, since there is practically no difference between the cars!
Some car owners note that Russian paint is softer and is easily damaged by mechanical means. At the same time, there are no complaints about tires and glass in user reviews, so we can safely say that the complaints against the Russian plant in the Leningrad region are quite minor and insignificant. This only confirms that the Russian assembly is no worse than the Japanese one, but at the same time much cheaper!
New character of Camry
But the main impression was not made by the new interior, sound insulation or pleasant options. This is exactly what one would expect from Camry when changing generations. The chassis surprised me! For Camry, this is not just a step forward, but a real breakthrough. From the very first turns there was only one thought in my head: “Okay? Is this a Camry? It all starts with a well-chosen steering force and feedback - the controls are so clear that you don’t need to get used to the car at all. You feel well what is happening with the front wheels, and this adds confidence.
The balance is also pleasing - yes, the Camry V6 with a heavy engine gives up a little earlier, but four-cylinder cars cling to the asphalt with fantastic tenacity. Moreover, both in sharp turns and in high-speed arcs. Even the Camry 2.0 with 205/65 R16 donuts doesn’t try to go into the fence - the tires squeal desperately, but the sedan stubbornly holds its trajectory. And the rolls are moderate. Nothing in common with its predecessor, where you tried to feel the edge with an “empty” steering wheel, while the body tilted and swayed. This is the first Camry that actually makes you want to go fast on twisty roads!
Ride suffers a bit, especially on the 18-inch wheels. But this applies only to the sharp irregularities typical of the city - hatches, joints, high patches. The rocking on the waves has practically disappeared, and the suspension does not break even when hitting serious holes. The main drawback is the behavior of the rear axle when quickly changing small and “sharp” potholes. The shock absorbers do not have time to dampen vibrations, so the Camry tries to buck and move to the side, but this does not noticeably affect stability or handling.
It is not clear how such a sharp paradigm shift will be perceived by former Camry customers, for whom the imposing and “office” style of a large black sedan is more important than anything else. And the young and hot can now easily consider the new Camry as an alternative to cars such as the Mazda 6 or Ford Mondeo, which have long been famous for their good handling. But are JBL music, 18-inch wheels and emerging gadgets enough to lure them in? Toyota should at least think about expanding the color range for the Russian market - it currently has only 6 discreet shades. A model that has gone through some of the biggest changes in its history clearly deserves more.
What car enthusiasts say
Oleg, owner of the 2022 model of the Russian plant
In terms of technical reliability, the 2022 car has no complaints at all, it has never let us down. But the paint is very soft, even small branches scratch it.
Pavel, owner of a 2008 car from Shushar
It’s a reliable car, I have some comments only about the interior, the materials are quite simple and begin to creak over time.
Yuri, sedan owner from Japan
For a long time I was looking for the “Japanese” 2022, I thought the interior would be of better quality, but no, absolutely the same as the Shusharian one. Toyota, of course, saved money here.
Anatoly, owner of a 2009 domestically assembled car
Everything is good in the car, except for the paint (it gets scratched very quickly) and the interior, which is of rather poor quality.
Leonid, owner of a 2012 American-built car
Wonderful car, very reliable. The interior materials are just not very good, they quickly wear out and creak.
Timofey, owns a Shushara car from 2013
This is my second Camry, but the interior is not very good, everything is spoiled by cheap plastic and crooked seams on the seats.
Konstantin, owner of a 2007 model from Shushar
Technically one of the best. Everything works without problems. The only thing I'm dissatisfied with is the paint, it quickly becomes covered with nasty small scratches.
Elena, owns a 2022 Shushara sedan
Great car. Reliable. The interior just started to creak pretty quickly, but everything else is just great.
How to quickly find out the country of origin
There are enough ways to accurately determine the country of assembly of a Toyota Camry. Let's look at quick check options.
The most common way is to determine the manufacturer by the vehicle's VIN number. Russian-assembled models have the letter X at the beginning of the VIN number, and in the case of Japanese manufacture, the letter J is written. You can obtain detailed information about a specific car through specialized online services. After entering the car's VIN number, the user will be given information about the country of manufacture, date of manufacture, body color and main technical characteristics.
To quickly determine the country of assembly of the Toyota Camry, during a visual inspection you need to pay attention to the following nuances:
- On Japanese-built cars, there is an eyelet installed under the rear bumper for connecting a safety cable. This element is provided in connection with the transportation of the machine from Japan by sea. Russian models do not have such an eye;
- Russian models are equipped with domestically made glass. Therefore, by looking at the glass markings, it is easy to determine the country of the manufacturer. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the likelihood of glass replacement due to an accident or cracking.

Quick ways to test your build
One of the safest ways is to check the vehicle's VIN. For Russian cars it begins with the letter “X”, for Japanese cars it begins with the letter “J”. You can also check the number in one of the online services - the results will provide detailed information about the date and place of production of the car, body color and equipment.
There are a couple more ways to distinguish a Japanese-made Toyota Camry from a Russian car:
- Since side windows are installed on the car, they are marked accordingly. But, alternatively, the car could have been in an accident, and during the repair a cheaper and more convenient version of glass was installed.
- Since Japanese-made cars were delivered by sea to the Russian Federation, a special loop was provided under the rear bumper for attaching a safety cable. Russian versions of the car do not have such eyes.
Quick ways to check the assembly
There are simply no other ways to distinguish the Camry assembly. To be fair, it should be said that the quality of Russian-assembled cars is in no way inferior to Japanese ones. The dynamics and handling of the car, the level of sound insulation and interior equipment are similar. The car manufacturer is very attentive to the quality of the cars it produces, thanks to which the quality control system works perfectly at all factories. And this makes Russian Toyotas as reliable and impeccable as their Japanese counterparts.
Main features of the 11th generation Toyota Corolla
In 2013, the corporation launched production and introduced the first copies of the new generation Corolla to the market. The eleventh generation has become really interesting in appearance, significantly ahead of its predecessor. Reviews from fans of futuristic technology and compliments from experts immediately poured in. But the change in appearance caused some concern, because restyling completely removed the purpose of the tenth generation - a family sedan. In this sense, the Corolla sold very well in Russia, but will the new sedan with an updated, foppish appearance provide the same sales? This question remains open today, because the popularity of the brand has changed a little. The main features of operating the 11th generation Corolla are as follows:
- the car drives very confidently, no road obstacles are afraid of it;
- thoughtful design makes the car comfortable for Russia;
- Toyota tolerates any temperature conditions outside without any difficulties;
- excellent implementation of internal space provides high ergonomics to the driver;
- very well-thought-out car controls convey driving pleasure;
- a variety of configurations will help you choose the optimal equipment for yourself;
- the optimal technical base remains reliable, thoughtful and comfortable.
This car overcomes any competition both technically and functionally. Modern representatives of the C-Class from Toyota turned out to be quite attractive in all aspects. It is worth looking at most of the successful cars in the segment to compare the Corolla with these cars and be pleasantly surprised. The machine is not only more productive, interesting in appearance and functional, but also costs significantly less. Today, the basic configuration of a Toyota Corolla will cost the buyer a rather modest amount - 759,000 rubles. With important additions for safety and comfort, a fairly good basic version will cost 800 thousand.
Whose Toyota Camry assembly is made better?
Toyota Camry is the most sought after and popular car all over the world. In Russia it has been the sales leader among sedans for a long time. Produced for over 35 years. Despite the fact that the model has changed significantly, both externally and technically, its exceptional features have been preserved. Reliability, comfort and solidity became a characteristic feature. Today, seven generations of the car are known.
Where is Toyota Camry made?
The model is produced at several factories located in different parts of the world. All enterprises are equipped with modern and high-quality equipment. The main production is located in Japan in the small town of Aichi. It is noted that this is where the Camry's build quality is the best. The model is assembled in four more countries:
- USA. There are two enterprises operating here;
- Australia. Production began in 2009 and continues to this day;
China. The first cars were produced in 2006. This plant produces hybrid powertrains for the Camry; Russia. The plant is located near St. Petersburg. Production of the machines began in 2007. Products are supplied not only to the Russian market, but also to Kazakhstan and Belarus from 2022.
Differences between the domestic assembly of Toyota Camry
The Russian assembly has a number of differences. The main ones:
As for the power plants, they are supplied to Russia from Japan in assembled form. Therefore, they are identical to Japanese ones and their quality is excellent. The production of passenger seats is carried out directly at the enterprise near St. Petersburg. They are made according to the requirements of the Japanese manufacturer. The quality and design are similar.
How to find out the country of origin of Toyota Camry
Determining the country of origin is not difficult. There are different ways to do this. The fastest and easiest way is by VIN number. It contains all the necessary information about transport. For example, country of origin, date of manufacture, color and technical specifications.
The VIN number is located in several places:
- On the dashboard. In the top left corner;
- Front under the passenger seat;
- On the frame if you open the driver's door.
Vin number of the Russian assembly is ХW7BE40KX0S027934.
You can also determine what kind of Camry assembly it is visually. The Japanese one has an eye under the rear bumper. It is used when transporting cars by sea. Russian cars have domestically produced glass. But if the car has been in an accident, then there is a chance that they will be installed in the Japanese assembly.
Weaknesses and shortcomings
Despite the fact that the Toyota Camry is a reliable and comfortable car, it has disadvantages. The main ones include:
- Weak paintwork. Scratches and chips appear on the body over time;
- The body and chassis elements are prone to corrosion;
- Poor quality seat padding;
- Mediocre sound insulation.
Conclusion.
The build quality of Toyota Camry in Russia is comparable to Japanese. The differences are minor. The car has retained its main features, since the technological process is the same for everyone and strict control over its compliance is carried out. As a result, the dynamics, handling, interior equipment and sound insulation are identical.
Build quality
According to the majority of potential buyers and owners of Japanese cars, home assembly of a Toyota Camry is not as high quality as that of a Japanese car. And, if we consider these machines in more detail, we can draw the following conclusions:
- Yocohama tires are installed at the factory on Japanese Camri, Michelin on Russian;
- the quality of paint and varnish materials in Russian versions is worse, but not much;
- all glasses on Russian versions are also produced in Russia;
- Moreover, all engines for any car, be it Russian or Japanese, are produced in Japan - power units are not produced at domestic enterprises.
According to experts, there is no difference between most of the main parts of the Camry of the Russian Federation and Japan. All components used for assembly are equally reliable, despite the fact that about 75% of Russian motorists doubt this.
That is why many try to choose the Japanese version, especially since the manufacturer sells it at the same price as the St. Petersburg assembly. The decision on this price was made at the opening of the plant in St. Petersburg.
Despite the fact that there are almost no Camries from the USA in either Russia or Ukraine (only on the secondary market), it is worth noting that local assembly is also considered to be of high quality and reliable. And in 2009-2012, the American Camry even surpassed all cars assembled in the USA in terms of reliability.
Toyota Camry models from 1990 to 2000
From 1991 to 1998, there were several Toyota Camry models in parallel. Small-sized models V30 and V40 were produced for the Japanese market. And the American buyer was offered larger cars, the XV10 and XV20, with a modified design.
V30 body for Japan
The 3rd generation of the legendary Japanese sedan was produced from 1990 to 1994. This body is notable for the new options that have appeared. The most expensive trim levels included a driver airbag and ABS. Also in the expensive Camry V30, the developers installed rear wheel steering (4WS). At the same time, there was a significant price gap between the basic and top configurations.
Camry V30
Different engines were available for the V30:
- 1.8 petrol 4S-FE 115 hp;
- petrol 2.0 3S-FE 135 (140) horses;
- 2.0 petrol 3S-GE 165 horsepower.
A turbocharged diesel engine, 2C-T, was also installed, producing 91 horsepower.
The black Camry is a classic. V30 facelift
As before, buyers had access to all-wheel drive and two transmissions: 5 manual transmission and 4 automatic transmission. The automatic transmission could operate in winter and sports mode.
The V30 model was restyled in the summer of 1992. After it, the GT package was replaced by a touring package. The list of options for this option included original R15 alloy wheels, a spoiler, foglights, a leather steering wheel, and two-way steering wheel adjustment.
Model Toyota Camry V40
The creation of the fourth generation Toyota Camry was accompanied by a serious economic crisis in the land of the rising sun. In this regard, the developers focused on the practicality of all V40 trim levels.
Camry V40
The power plants of the V40 generation were inherited from the previous V30 model (petrol 1.8 4S-FE, 2.0 3S-FE). Only the diesel engine has changed; instead of the 2.0 2C-T, a 2.2 3C-T (with a power of 90 hp) was installed.
Independent, MacPherson-type spring suspension was installed front and rear. Improved four-wheel maneuverability of the Camry V40 was achieved through the use of the 4WS system.
The 1996 V40 update affected the optics; they became more modern. Also available in the middle trim levels: wood trim, airbags, ABS, remote control key and leather steering wheel.
Body for America XV10 1991 - 1996
Camry, designated XV10, appeared in the United States in 1991 and was sold in three body styles: sedan, station wagon and coupe. The wheelbase of the car was increased to 2620 mm, the length of the body was 4725 mm, and the width was 1770 mm.

The American version of the XV10 was equipped only with gasoline engines: 2.2 5S-FE 125 (130) hp, 3.0 3VZ-FE 185 horses, and after an update in 1994 - 3.0 1MZ-FE 188 horsepower. There were 2 gearboxes - 5 manual transmission and 4 automatic transmission.
Camry XV10 coupe
Standard safety features included a driver's airbag, front seat belts with load limiters, adjustable head restraints, and anti-lock and traction control systems. For an additional fee, the XV10 was equipped with cruise control and an airbag for the front passenger.
XV20 – the fifth generation of the Japanese sedan
The XV20 model appeared in 1996, replacing the first Camry XV10 wide body. But in Japan, the XV 20 was called the Toyota Camry Gracia until 1998, because at the same time a “narrow” version of the V40 was produced.
Camry XV20
In the fifth generation cars, the interior design was completely changed. The interior used high-quality plastic with wooden inserts. The instrument panel was harmoniously combined with the interior. The level of sound insulation in the cabin was not satisfactory. A comfortable position behind the wheel has been designed for the driver. The steering column and lumbar support were adjustable.
The gasoline engines used in the fifth generation Camry sedan were made in two variations: four-cylinder 2.2 5S-FE with a power of 140 hp. and V6 2.5 2MZ-FE, producing 200 horses. This body, like the XV10, did not offer diesel engines. But in the Japanese market, the XV20 retained all-wheel drive in some trim levels.

The V6 2.5 2MZ-FE petrol engine was not offered on the global market for the fifth generation XV20. Instead, the cars were equipped with an older internal combustion engine - V6 3.0 1MZ-FE (194 hp). Also available to buyers was a four-cylinder 2.2 5S-FE with 131 hp.
What should you pay attention to before purchasing?
When buying this car, first of all, you should pay attention to:
- The condition of the paintwork, since its quality on both Russian and Japanese Camrys leaves much to be desired;
- Check the condition of the steering rack for play and extraneous noise when turning the steering wheel;
- The condition of the seat upholstery (especially the driver's seat) and steering wheel trim;
- Check the engine for oil consumption, which is especially important for a 2.4-liter engine;
- Check the condition of the automatic transmission. This point is especially important if you are considering buying a car with a 3.5 liter engine, where the gearbox is especially loaded and prone to overheating.
Where is Toyota Camry assembled for Russia?
The first plant of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia
The start of construction of the first Toyota Camry assembly plant in Russia dates back to June 14, 2005. A territory was allocated for the Toyota factory workshops in the Leningrad region, in the industrial sector of the village of Shushara. The machine-building conveyor was first launched on December 21, 2007. On the same day, the opening ceremony of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia took place. Officials from Japan and Russia took part in it.
Currently, the plant where Toyota is assembled in Russia produces Camry and RAV4 models.
The company operates in a two-shift mode. To improve the qualifications of working personnel, business trips to foreign companies are organized. In addition to Russia, the product sales market covers Kazakhstan and Belarus. In April 2022, production of the new generation Toyota Camry began in Russia.
Toyota Camry is produced in factories in five countries.
Today, the production of “crowned” cars is carried out on assembly lines in several countries.
1. The main Japanese plant for the production of Camry is located in the city of the same name of the Toyota City concern, in Aichi Prefecture.
2. American largest plant of the concern Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. is located in the USA, Kentucky, where the “crowned” car rolls off the assembly line. The first Camry car in the USA was manufactured at this plant in 1988, and where the Toyota Camry 2014 is assembled.
Starting next year, the popular sedan with a hybrid power plant, the Toyota Camry Hybrid, will be produced here.
3. Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. also operates in the USA. (SIA), located in Gibson, Indiana. It includes a branch of the Japanese concern Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, Inc. (TMMI). Along with the well-known brands of the Subaru brand, the Toyota Camry and its American brother Toyota Solara have also been produced here since 2003.
4. An updated version of the prestigious car will hit the American market this fall. Back in April of this year, during the New York Auto Show, Japanese engineers announced that they had reworked over 2,000 components and parts in the updated Camry car. The new American Camry has gained sporty elegance due to restyling of the bumpers, air intake and optical elements.
As before, American drivers are offered two power units: one four-cylinder with 180 hp. with a volume of 2.5 liters and a six-cylinder engine with a power of 270 hp. with a working volume of 3.5 liters.
5. The Australian plant of the Toyota concern has been around for almost 50 years and is a leader in car production in the Pacific region. The assembly shops are located in the town of Altona, near Melbourne. In 2009, the Altona Plant also began full-scale production of the Toyota Camry Hybrid with a hybrid power plant.
In addition to the domestic market, the Australian plant serves the markets of the Middle East, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.
6. The Chinese counterpart of the premium sedan is assembled at the GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd plant in Guangzhou. The company was founded in 2004. The first Chinese cars of the Guangzhou-Toyota Camry model rolled off the assembly line in May 2006.
Since April 2009, the production of promising Toyota Camry Hybrid has been mastered here.
7. The Russian plant Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia near St. Petersburg has been producing Toyota Camry since 2007. As representatives of the Japanese concern have repeatedly stated, Toyota is seriously considering plans to create another plant in Russia under its own brand.
Considering that the main focus will be on increasing the production and sales of “E” and “D” class cars, expanding the assembly of Toyota Camry also seems very promising
The concern takes the Russian market seriously, so at the recent Moscow Motor Show 2014 it presented a new version of this car.
In which countries is Camry produced?
Japanese developers of Toyota Camry have achieved an excellent combination of design and technical characteristics, which is confirmed by the increased demand for the car. Camry is manufactured at six factories located in five countries. Production workshops are equipped with high-quality equipment.
The main manufacturer of the Toyota Camry model is Japan. At the same time, the best quality of car assembly is noted in comparison with other enterprises. Production workshops are located in the province of Aichi.
There are two factories in the USA where Camry is assembled. The main production facilities are located in Kentucky. The second plant is located in Indiana. There, Toyota Camry assembly has been carried out in partnership with other corporations since 2003.
In 2009, Toyota Camry production was established in Australia, in the city of Alton. Cars produced from the assembly line, including those with hybrid engines, are supplied to markets in the Pacific Ocean regions.
Another plant is located in Guangzhou in China. This company, operating since 2006, also produces hybrid power units for Camry.
Where is Toyota Camry assembled?
Finding out which country the Camry is going to is not difficult.
The easiest way is to ask the car dealership where you purchased the car. If this option does not work, you can look at the VIN and the first letter of this combination. If the assembly is domestic, then the letter X will appear first, if it is Japanese - J, if there is a number - USA. You can obtain more detailed information about the VIN number using special services. By inserting it into the form of some sites, a potential buyer or already the owner of the car will also find out the production date, body color and some technical parameters. List of countries Camry will go to in 2022:
- United States. There are 2 factories here - in Indiana and Kentucky. The main direction is the production of cars for the North American market.
- China. The factory is located in Guangzhou. Operating since 2006, it produces both Camry cars themselves and power units for them. Cars are sold in Chinese and Asian car dealerships.
- Japan. Cars for most European countries, including Ukraine, are assembled here. And since 2011, cars for Russian car dealerships have also been brought from here: due to the high demand for the sedan, the plant in the Russian Federation began not to fulfill orders.
- Russian Federation. Since 2007, an enterprise has been operating in the Leningrad region (Shushary village) producing Camri for Russia. On average, the plant assembles 35 thousand cars per year. The equipment on Russian production lines is no different from Japanese enterprises.
The Camry will no longer be produced in Australia in 2022. Camries assembled here were sold to local showrooms and across the Pacific Rim. Due to declining demand and cost-effective production, all of these markets are now being supplied with commercial sedans from Japan.
Quality of cars, how to distinguish Toyota cars from different factories
One of the main questions of domestic car enthusiasts is: whose assembly is of higher quality and how to distinguish the domestic version from the Japanese one. Visually, the car assembled in the Russian Federation does not have any visible differences from its Asian counterpart, except for the fact that the Japanese equip the car with Yokohama tires, and install Michelin tires on the Russian assembly line.
Another external difference is the absence of front and rear towing hooks in the Shushar-assembled Camry, which are standard in the original car. It is also customary to determine the country of manufacture by the VIN number; its letter designations, for example, the presence of the letter J (Japan), indicate whose car it is and for what market it was produced.
In terms of quality, it doesn’t matter at all where Toyota Camry is assembled, it is the same everywhere, and on each assembly line the car goes through several stages of control, which is strictly monitored by company representatives from Japan. https://www.youtube.com/embed/uLEBQNMnCsw
Toyota Camry up to what year of Japanese assembly - we'll tell you step by step
Toyota has considered the Toyota Camry sedan its flagship for many years. For a quarter of a century, this model has been the best-selling model on the world market. It has already survived seven generations of restyling without losing its exceptional properties.
In our language, the name of the car is translated as “Crown”. And she really looks like a king. No one has any doubts about whether to buy this car. But almost everyone asks the question where Toyota Camry is assembled. After all, assembly often determines quality.

What Toyota models are assembled in Russia
In the Russian Federation, the Toyota automobile concern is currently represented by two divisions - Toyota Motor RUS, an enterprise that is officially a representative of the brand, selling cars of any assembly, and the Toyota plant in Shushary (St. Petersburg), specializing in the production part. The assembly line was founded in 2005, and since 2007, it has been churning out Toyota Camry models for sales within the country, and now beyond its borders to Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Since 2016, after the completion of the construction of new workshops, the plant began production of the no less famous RAV-4. The production of Toyota cars in Russia is at a decent level, and there will be no significant differences in assembly, since the company controls production to maintain the proper quality of its cars.
In 2013, the Land Cruiser Prado began to roll off the production line in the Russian Far East, but two years later this idea was abandoned. The 2022 Toyota Prado continues to be sourced from Japan.
The success of a brand is made up of many factors and, although the company’s path to glory cannot be called thorny, it is still the fruit of great work. In many ways, the universal love of consumers from all over the world is the result of the automaker’s attentive attitude to the needs and priorities of motorists in different countries. An individual approach to the client always ensures a high level of sales, and the automobile business is no exception. Along with decent quality and improvement of models, Toyota creates cars that are relevant in modern realities, adapted to the operating conditions of specific regions, and careful control in production allows them to maintain their position, despite the fact that many models are not “purebred” Japanese at all.

Where is the eleventh generation Corolla assembled?
The question of where the car is assembled is always very important for car enthusiasts. It's not just a matter of pride in manufacturing in a well-designed, high-quality factory, but also confidence in the car. That is, by owning a car that was assembled by specialists from Takaoko, Corolla drivers were completely confident that the car would not let them down. Buyers left positive reviews already on the second day of use. But today the car is assembled in Turkey, at the official assembly plant of the corporation. And owners are in no hurry to voice reviews of the new Corolla so early, assessing all the features of the car. Among the features of the Turkish assembly, it is worth mentioning the following features:
complete renewal of equipment on the assembly line for the production of Toyota Corolla; global investment in the company to move the assembly of such an important model for the company; Japanese management, all engineers making decisions came from Japan; training of staff with mandatory internship at a Japanese plant, full specialization; maximum compliance with assembly quality, mandatory certification of each stage of production; testing cars to identify any manufacturing defects.
In Turkey, only large-scale assembly, welding and painting of the car is performed. They also carry out anti-corrosion protection and other important processes to extend the life of the car. The company's employees are trained personnel who know perfectly well how to behave in a given situation. It is for these reasons that the build quality has not suffered much in comparison with Takaoko. However, car buyers have become biased towards certain aspects of transport. We are talking not only about the build quality, but also about the reliability of the engine and peripheral parts. Here you cannot have any complaints about the Corolla, since the engine and all the equipment are supplied from Japan and are only assembled in Turkey.
