. The use of other oils leads to malfunctions or failure of the gearbox. Ideally, you need to change the oil in all two circuits, but in Mechatronics, changing the oil yourself is painful and problematic.

There are 2 ways to change the oil:

1. Remove the battery, battery platform, rocker, breather cover, pour oil through a watering can. 2. Lightly remove the breather cap, insert the tube and pump in the oil with a syringe.

So, to change the oil in the DSG-7 in the 2nd way you will need:

The DSG gearbox type 0CW (DQ200) has two separate oil fills. One is for gear oil and the other is for hydraulic oil. The oil level in the 0CW gearbox and the hydraulic oil level in the mechatronics cannot be checked. The correct oil level can only be achieved by draining the old oil and adding new oil!

The gear oil for the 0CW 7-speed dual clutch gearbox is permanently filled (oils are designed to last a lifetime). For this reason, the oil level is not checked and there is no oil level plug on this gearbox.

If there is a leak in the gearbox, the cause must be determined and the problem repaired. The correct oil level in the gearbox can only be achieved by draining the old oil and then refilling the gearbox with new oil in the specified quantity. See DSG 0CW filling quantities.

Draining transmission oil

— Raise the car. — Place a tray under the gearbox. — Unscrew the oil drain plug on the gearbox (arrow).

— Drain the oil. — Install the oil drain plug.

Refilling with transmission oil

The prescribed amount of oil must be strictly observed - the gearbox will only be filled correctly if this has been done.

New oil is filled through the air release hole. If the transmission is on the vehicle, depending on the model and engine, the air filter or battery with battery tray must be removed when filling the transmission with oil.

— Remove the air filter — Remove the battery and battery tray — Remove the air vent cover.

— Install the VAS 6262/4 adapter onto the VAS 6262A adapter.

Before screwing the adapter VAS 6262A onto the oil distributor, measure the length of the tube (dimension -a-) and, if necessary, shorten the adapter tube to size -a-: 210 mm. Dimension -a- is measured from the shaft (green area in the picture) of the oil filling adapter VAS 6262A.

Note: Shake the oil bottle before opening to mix any deposits on the bottom of the bottle with the oil. For filling, use only gear oil for 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox DSG - 0CW, see Electronic Catalog of Original Parts.

— Screw the oil bottle onto the adapter VAS 6262 A.

If the thread of the oil distributor does not match the thread of the adapter VAS 6262 A, the adapter VAS 6262/6 must be used.

— Remove the adapter from the gearbox after refueling. — Wipe the area around the air outlet with a cloth. — Install on the ventilation cover. — Install the battery tray and battery — Install the air filter.

Note: There is a risk of damage to the mechatronics of the double clutch transmission J743. For mechatronics, only hydraulic oil available in spare parts may be used, see Electronic Catalog of Original Spare Parts. Other hydraulic oils will cause problems and/or failure of the gearbox. The hydraulic oil level cannot be checked.

If hydraulic oil is lost from the mechatronics, the correct oil level can only be established by changing the oil. During installation work, the mechatronics must be hermetically sealed. Insufficient hydraulic oil and overfilling affect the operation of the mechatronics and can lead to malfunctions.

Condition: Mechatronics must be removed

Draining hydraulic oil

Remove oil filler screw -arrow-. Replace the filler screw after removal.

The mechatronics ventilation cover is destroyed when removed and must be replaced, see the electronic catalog of original spare parts. When the mechatronics is turned, oil drains from both the oil hole and the vent hole. For this reason, the mechatronics should be positioned so that both openings are above the oil drain pan. Switch on the mechatronics and allow the hydraulic oil to drain completely.

Filling with hydraulic oil

Fill in new hydraulic oil only after completing all mechatronics repair work. After completely draining the hydraulic oil, return the mechatronics to its original position. The filler hole is directed upwards.

Owners of cars with a DSG-7 robotic gearbox with a double dry clutch are concerned about the question: does this transmission require maintenance? Oil selection


You should know that different transmission fluids are poured into the mechatronics control unit and into the box itself. The mechatronics need 1 liter, and the gearbox needs about 2 liters of oil. Use only transmission fluids recommended by the manufacturer, otherwise you can significantly reduce the life of the transmission.

For mechatronics, VAG G 004 000 M2 oil is recommended . A liter bottle will be enough to completely replace the liquid. You need to fill the box with VAG G 052 512 A2 . You will need two liters of this liquid.

Some car owners are trying to save money and use cheaper transmission fluids. For example, FEBI 06161, SWAG 99906161 . They cost not much less than the original, but how their use will affect the service life of the gearbox has not been thoroughly studied. It’s up to you to take the risk or not, but car service technicians strongly recommend purchasing original transmission fluids.

The role of transmission fluid is to clean parts and protect them from premature wear. The oil covers all surfaces with a thin film, preventing excessive friction and abrasion. This effect is achieved through the use of a liquid having a certain composition and viscosity.

Over time, foreign impurities appear in the transmission fluid, including tiny particles of metal that can scratch parts. In addition, the oil becomes more liquid, so it does not stay on the surface of the parts as well as fresh oil. The conclusion is obvious: all gearbox parts begin to deteriorate much faster, so the need for repairs may arise even during the first hundred thousand mileage.

What is DSG adaptation and when should it be carried out?

If, over time, jerks and jolts occur in the robotic box when moving, then it’s time to make an adaptation. The need for this procedure arises due to wear and deterioration in the efficiency of the clutch, which causes a decrease in the smoothness of gear shifting and the appearance of jerking. This ailment can be eliminated with the help of adaptation, which must be carried out after 15 thousand km or even earlier if the car is constantly used in a city with traffic jams. Ideally, you should not wait for shocks to appear and stick to an interval of 10-15 thousand km. Modern versions of the DSG are equipped with special travel sensors for the clutch fork and pulleys so that the electronics themselves adapt as the clutch wears out, regardless of the mileage of 10 or 15 thousand.

How to make an adaptation using the example of DSG DQ200

Adaptation is best done at a service center using a computer program, but thrifty owners of used cars often resort to a simplified method of DSG adaptation:

  1. Drive 10-15 km to warm up the engine and gearbox
  2. Turn off the engine and turn the key to activate the dashboard (in some cars, adaptation can be carried out with the ignition off)
  3. Lower the door window and press the gas until the kick-down is activated so that an audible click appears in the transmission housing
  4. Hold the accelerator for 40 seconds
  5. Release the pedal and remove the ignition key
  6. Reconnect the chain, start the engine and start driving.

How to drain old oil


Draining transmission fluid is easy. To do this, you will need a pit or a lift, containers for mining and hexagons for 6 and 10. After removing the protection, the lower part of the box and the drain plugs of the control unit and the box itself become visible.

You need to unscrew the plugs one by one and carefully drain all the liquid into pre-prepared containers. It is advisable to replace the plugs with new ones. Their tightening torque is 30 Nm. At this point, the oil drainage is complete, the protection can be returned to its place and proceed to the next stage.

DSG 6 device

DSG 6 (model DQ250) was developed in 2003. At the factory, the box is labeled as VW02 E, a distinctive feature of this box from the 7-speed “older friend”, released three years later, is the so-called “wet clutch”. This means that the gearbox disc packs are constantly immersed in an oil bath and operate under conditions of constant lubrication and cooling. This significantly increases the resource of both the discs themselves and the box as a whole.

  • differential box;
  • two rows of gears;
  • control unit of the Mechatronic box;
  • main gear.

The double clutch transmits torque to the gearbox's rows of gears. The drive disk of the box is connected to the friction clutches and the flywheel by a special hub, which also combines the gears.

The first row of gearboxes operates with odd gears and reverse gear. The second, accordingly, serves the remaining stages of the transmission.

The ECU is located in the box body, in the crankcase.

An equally important element is the electro-hydraulic unit, which carries out all the physical operations of changing gear ratios in the box. Its main components:

  • control and solenoid valves of the box;
  • multiplexer generating a control signal;
  • box distribution spools.

When the driver moves the gearbox selector to one of the positions, the gearbox distributors are activated. Gears are changed using solenoid valves, and the clutch clutches are adjusted by pressure valves. Therefore, these valves can be called the “heart” of the box, and “Mechatronic” - its “brain”. The DQ250 box multiplexer controls the hydraulic cylinders. In DSG 6 there are 8 of these, but a maximum of 4 box valves are activated at the same time. When the multiplexer uses one mode or another, different cylinders are activated, depending on the gear selected on the gearbox.

Thus, the DSG 6 box operates on fairly simple shifting algorithms, changing gears cyclically. At one point, two rows of gears are engaged, but the second (currently inactive) is still working, just not being used. If the gearbox changes the gear ratio, the row is engaged without restarting, entering the activity phase. This allows you to reduce the gear shift time literally to a fraction of a second, making the car move smoothly and accurately, without the “thoughtfulness” typical of “slower” gearboxes. And this approach made it possible to give the box the name “preselective”, since the desired gear is always ready for work.

Filling with new oil

To fill the oil, you need to remove the cover and remove the starter, battery and its platform. This is quite difficult and time-consuming, which is why many auto mechanics prefer to fill the oil through the breather. This is much faster, although it requires some skill.

The mechatronics breather is located near the starter. To remove it, just place a 16mm wrench under it and carefully loosen the plastic plug. To add oil, you will need a hose with a diameter of 8 mm, a large-volume syringe or a funnel. The tube is connected to the hole, and a syringe with oil is attached to the other end. Transmission fluid is slowly poured into the mechatronics control unit. After 1 liter is filled, the hose is removed and the plug is put in place.

To gain access to the breather hole of the box itself, the gear selector must be moved to the “P” position. If this is not done, access will be limited by the lever. The gearbox breather plug can be easily removed by hand. The technology for filling oil is the same as for the control unit, but the gearbox will require 1.9 liters of transmission fluid. It is better to drain the oil into a separate container in order to accurately measure its volume and pour exactly the same amount. The breather plug is reinstalled and the car is ready to hit the road again.

Car models where you can find the DSG7 gearbox

A feature of the DSG7 is the presence of two volumes of oil, for the mechatronics that controls the DSG7 and the mechanical gearbox (where the forks, gears, etc. are). If on a conventional manual gearbox the clutch is clamped by design springs installed during manufacture, and when you press the clutch pedal, the clutch “releases”, thus no torque is transmitted, then in DSG7 the opposite happens, until the mechatronics gives the signal “released” to the clutches, they rotate freely , the mechatronics gives a signal, and the piston acts on the fork and the fork clamps the disk, and if there are no pressure leaks in the mechatronics, then the disk is clamped with the necessary force.

Diagnostic instruments contain the temperature value of the first and second friction disc; the temperature is calculated, i.e. how the clutch was slipping, how long, what torque was on the engine or what pressure was in the mechatronics, based on these readings the clutch temperature is calculated - this is the unmeasured temperature - this is the calculated temperature. If the calculated temperature begins to rise, it means that the clutch begins to slip excessively and the DSG7 gearbox will need to be repaired in the future.

Ford, Mercedes, Fiat have developed their DSG gearboxes with “dry” clutches. Ford abandoned hydraulics, installing electric motors, which are controlled by an electronic unit combined with electric motors, mounted on the box. Adaptation of the DSG7 Ford after replacing the electronic unit or double clutch is carried out automatically, unlike VW where it is necessary to carry out the adaptation procedure using special equipment.

The clutch in this box is a separate non-separable (non-repairable) unit. When replacing the clutch, the DSG7 is supplied by the manufacturer assembled, with adjusted disc clearances.

Basic box malfunctions

Subject to proper operating rules, the DSG 6 gearbox is quite reliable, has a long mileage and fine-tuning capabilities. But the design features also caused some problems with the box.

Friction clutch wear

Most often, the “disease” is manifested by jerking of the gearbox when engaging even-numbered gears or when reverse gear disappears. At the same time, the box goes into emergency mode, prohibiting gear changes, and information about errors enters the automatic transmission unit.

In this case, there is only one repair method - either replacing the entire clutch or individual friction discs (if the car's mileage is up to 150 thousand km). If the entire clutch was replaced on a DSG 6, the box must be adjusted using a proprietary diagnostic device; it is also advisable to adapt the DSG 6 clutch while in motion. Adaptation is also required when replacing disks.

Wear of control solenoids in the mechatronics unit

Another typical problem with these boxes, which manifests itself as “kicks” of the automatic transmission. In this case, the DSG gearbox does not go into emergency mode, and there are no errors in the memory either. The problem can be resolved by replacing the mechatronics or broken solenoids.

Classic problems with DSG7

The occurrence of defects in the operation of DSG7 is often associated with incorrect operation of the mechatronics

  • There is no forward or reverse gear shifting,
  • Jerks when changing gears.

After diagnostics, repair of the DSG7 mechatronics or its reprogramming is required. The reasons may be pressure leaks in the internal cavities, or incorrect operation of the gear shift software. Which leads to clutch slipping. Reprogramming the DSG7 is also required to update the software and optimize the operation of the box.

It is possible for the mechatronics unit to overheat in vehicle driving modes (providing a creeping mode) and, as a result, clutch discs to slip, subsequently repairing the DSG7, which is an operational defect in the operation of the DSG7. The manufacturer has recommended actions for DSG7 owners to force the transmission to switch from mode “D” to mode “N” when the car is in a traffic jam and stopped for more than 1 minute. VW developers did not count on the Russian specific operating conditions of the DSG7 (long hours of regular driving in traffic jams).

Also, failure of the DSG7 mechatronics is an oil leak from the “breather”; replacement or repair is required. If the electrical circuits inside the unit fail, the DSG7 mechatronics assembly is replaced.

Care must be taken to protect the exposed parts of the DSG7 from contamination. Failure of “dry” discs is possible for various reasons: Oil getting into the clutch (for example, due to a leak in the engine crankshaft oil seal), water, clogging of the clutch with dirt, etc. is a problem with a DSG7 gearbox with dry clutches.

The mechanical part of the DSG7 with high mileage is characterized by breakdowns of conventional manual gearboxes - gear failure, pitting of bearings, shafts, destruction of drive forks, etc. Then a thorough repair of the mechanical part of the box is required.

Replacing DSG6 with DSG7 is not possible, because transmissions are aggregated with different engines.

In 2011 During the production of DSG7, modifications were made to individual components, improvements were made, installation dimensions for clutches were changed, and the release bearing drive lever was changed.

A: Mechatronik (mechatronik, mechatron, valve body, brain) - electronic-hydraulic control unit for the gearbox. Perhaps the most important, but at the same time the most unreliable unit in the entire transmission. Question 006: Q: What is the difference between mechatronics? A: Each type of DSG has its own type of mechatronics. Mechatronics from different types of DSG are not interchangeable. Moreover, for some types of DSG there are several generations of mechatronics, which also differ from each other. And for each type and generation of mechatronics, there are many versions of software designed for different engines and different gear ratios in the gearbox. Question 007:Q: Which DSG is better/more reliable? A: There is no clear answer to this question. Each type of DSG has its own advantages and disadvantages. And the “life” of any DSG largely depends on its operating conditions, such as: - Ambient temperature. All DSGs do not like overheating, especially for DSGs with “dry” clutches, in which the mechatronics have a separate oil circuit and there is no cooling; — Driving mode. Those who spend several hours every day in traffic jams have a greater chance of coming to replace mechatronics than those who mainly drive long distances on the highway; — Driving style. Unlike conventional manual gearboxes, the DSG7 0AM has a normally open clutch. And it closes only when the mechatronics begins to extend the clutch release rods.
